Description of Work: Doug had done a great job in sweeping our chimney in the fall and mentioned to me that he also did gutter cleaning. He arrived at our house to clean the gutters and found that they didn't need it. Instead of charging for a job that didn't need done he was upfront and told me to call him latter in the year if I was having problems.

+ -1 moreOur experience with Douglas was wonderful! From the first call to ask questions and to set up an appointment, through Doug's inspection, we were treated in a very friendly, professional manner. Doug did a thorough inspection of the mantle, fireplace structure, and chimney and told us that the problem is occurring because the builder did not set the fireplace flush against the wall when it was installed, and the expansion and contraction is causing the crumbling. We are able to safely use the fireplace! Douglas does not charge a fee for travel (one company wanted to charge $75 just to come out!) and his price was very reasonable. He came exactly on time, and went right to work. We would definitely use Douglas again, and will recommend them highly.
Description of Work: The underside of the mantle of our fireplace was crumbling (at the point where the mantle meets the fire box). We were concerned that this gap could result in a dangerous condition and wanted to have it inspected before we used it this winter.

+ -1 moreDOUG WAS SCHEDULED TO ARRIVE AT 11:30 AND CALLED AT THAT TIME TO SAY HE'D BE ABOUT 25 MINUTES LATE AS HE WAS JUST FINISHING UP WITH ANOTHER CUSTOMER. HE ARRIVED IN 1/2 HOUR AND WENT TO WORK IMMEDIATELY. AFTER I TOLD HIM OF SMELLING THE FIREPLACE WHILE STANDING IN MY OFFICE, WHICH IS BEHIND THE FIREPLACE, HE VISUALLY CHECKED THE FLU AND FOUND GAPS BETWEEN THE TILES AND THE BRICK. HE FILLED THESE WITH INSULATION AND SAID THIS WOULD MOST PROBABLY FIX THE PROBLEM. HE TOLD ME I DIDN'T NEED THE FLU CLEANED SINCE THERE WAS VERY LITTLE BUILD-UP ON THE LINING. HE WAS HONEST AND HELPFUL AND I WILL USE HIM AGAIN WHEN I NEED MY FLU CLEANED.
Description of Work: DOUG CAME OUT TO CLEAN MY CHIMNEY FLU BUT UPON ARRIVAL AND CHECKING THE FLU, DOUG SAID THERE WASN'T ENOUGH BUILDUP IN THE FLU TO WARRANT A CLEANING. HE DID SEE SOME GAPS IN THE LINER THAT WERE ALLOWING THE FIRE TO BE SMELLED IN THE ROOM BEHIND THE FIREPLACE. HE 'CAULKED' THE GAPS WITH FIREPROOF INSULATION AND CHARGED ME ONLY FOR A SERVICE CALL.

WE CALLED THREE COMPANIES AND DECIDED TO GO WITH THE ESTIMATE IN THE MIDDLE, WHICH WAS DOUGLAS. THEY WERE LOVELY ON THE PHONE AND ALSO ARRIVED RIGHT ON TIME. DOUG INSPECTED OUR DRYER VENT AND TOLD US IT WAS CLEAN, NO CLOGS, AND NO NEED FOR A CLEANING. HE VERY KINDLY ALSO VACUUMED THE FLOOR AREA BEHIND THE DRYER. MY HUSBAND THEN ASKED HIM SOME QUESTIONS ABOUT OUR FIRE PLACE AND DOUG GRACIOUSLY WENT UP ON OUR ROOF TO CHECK THE CHIMNEY AND ALSO EXAMINED THE FIREPLACE FROM INSIDE AND GAVE US SOME RECOMMENDATIONS WHICH HE THOUGHT WE COULD EVEN DO OURSELVES. FOR ALL THIS, HE CHARGED US ONLY THE MINIMUM SERVICE CALL FEE. WE REALLY APPRECIATE THE MONEY HE SAVED US. IT'S SO GREAT TO ENCOUNTER A COMPANY LIKE THIS, PROFESSIONAL, HONEST AND FRIENDLY. WE WOULD DEFINITELY CALL DOUGLAS AGAIN.

Description of Work: LINDEMANN SENT OUT A CHIMNEY INSPECTOR WHO PROVIDED A DETAILED INSPECTION AND REPORT. THEY FOUND THE FULL EXTERIOR NON-FIREPLACE MASONRY CHIMNEY WAS LINED WITH STAINLESS STEEL LINER, INSULATED, AND WATERPROOFED. LOWER HALF OF EXTERIOR BRICK CHIMNEY WAS GROUND AND TUCKPOINTED FROM THE GROUND LEVEL UP.

I WAS VERY DISSATISFIED WITH THEIR LACK OF RESPONSIVENESS, AND THE FACT THAT SHE REALLY COULDN'T EXPLAIN WHY THEY THOUGHT THE JOB MIGHT NOT BE A DEFINITE GO WHEN SHE HAD THE DEPOSIT WITH THE SIGNED CONTRACT.
Description of Work: I MET WITH A COMPANY REPRESENTATIVE TO GET AN ESTIMATE ON HAVING OUR CHIMNEY CLEANED (ON THE OUTSIDE), SOME TUCK POINTING DONE, AND A CUSTOM STAINLESS STEEL CHIMNEY CAP MADE. AFTER RECEIVING THE CONTRACT IN THE MAIL, I SIGNED AND RETURNED THE CONTRACT ON JULY 27 WITH THE REQUIRED $200 DEPOSIT. I CALLED THE COMPANY ON SEPTEMBER 16, BECAUSE I HADN'T HEARD BACK, AND NOTICED THAT THE CHECK HADN'T CLEARED. THE PERSON SAID THEY HADN'T ORDERED ANYTHING YET, BECAUSE THEY WERE WAITING TO MAKE SURE THE JOB WAS A GO. SHE SAID THEY DID HAVE THE DEPOSIT AND THE SIGNED CONTRACT. I WAS REALLY CONFUSED ABOUT WHAT THEY WERE ACTUALLY WAITING FOR AND SHE REALLY DIDN'T GIVE ME AN EXPLANATION. SHE SAID THEY HADN'T CASHED THE CHECK, BECAUSE THEY HADN'T YET SCHEDULED THE JOB. SHE SEEMED ALMOST EAGER TO RETURN THE CHECK. SHE SAID THEY'D LEFT ME A MESSAGE ON SEPTEMBER 8, BUT I HAD NO MESSAGE FROM THEM ON OUR MACHINE. THE WHOLE THING WAS REALLY ODD AND I FELT WE'D WASTED SO MUCH TIME WITH THEM.
