Description of Work: Quick service, good work, a little overpriced.

Description of Work: We had our furnace cleaned and checked. No problems were found. The tech was on time and very friendly. We will continue to use Stephens for all our needs!

Description of Work: He checked and repaired 5 toilets for possible leaking which was causing my water bill to be excessive. He was very professional and efficient. Wonderful service.

Description of Work: We had them look at four leaky shutoff valves and move some pipes behind my stove.

Description of Work: They replaced the main water shut off valve along with sever other shut off valves and some pipes to the toilet. Everything works great and they were very prompt. However, when asked for an estimate and the total cost we did not receive an answer and then were mailed a large bill. I understand they did quite a bit of work but it would have been nice to know how much it was going to cost before the bill came. We will use them in the future but not without asking for an estimate first.

Description of Work: Sewer rodding from downstairs toilet and sewer rodding from basement floor drain. We understand they had to remove the downstairs toilet to do the primary rodding in old 4" inch pipes. Would have been much cheaper if our house had outside trap but it is an older house.

Description of Work: We purchased a 50 gallon water heater to replace an old 40 gallon one. The tech noticed a problem with water supply going to home humidifier and we had him fix the problem. Very pleased with the service!!!!

Description of Work: One of my air conditioners stopped working and Dave was dispatched to diagnose and repair. He diagnosed and explained everything that was going on and what the problem was. Dave added freon, cleaned the furnace area and tightened some connections. He checked all the registers in the house to make sure there was air flow, gave me info on the humidifier and filter. Everything works great now.

Description of Work: They did a complete walk-through of the plumbing in a recently purchased home.

Description of Work: I had contacted General Electric via phone to trouble shoot my 8 year old water heater made by GE. They told me exactly what was indicated by the "red light" installed on this model as an indicator. There was no doubt what the problem was. I went to Angie's List to get the name of a local repair service in the Southwest suburbs. Called Stevens Plumbing and told the woman who answered the phone what the diagnosis was and she said that she could dispatch someone to my home within one hour. (There has been no hot water.) When the assigned person arrived, he was told again what the issue was. He went into the basement and proceeded to tell me that I would need to order the part! They do not carry it and now would be charging me a 15 minute service call. I argued that we had already established this fact...So why did he come? Now I asked what I owed him and he indicated that if I were to call him back to install the part, he would apply it to those charges. Asked what that would be and all I got was a play by play of what would need to happen...Not establishing how long and the cost to this senior citizen! Yes I realize that most of these plumbing folks play the game, however I was hoping via Angie's List that it would be less manipulative and more honest. By the way, he also told me that if they ordered the part it would be more costly. So I should get it thru G.E. or he could install a whole new water heater. (The part is costing $407.00 plus tax and special overnight delivery!) Why did I have to have Stevens Plumbing come inside my house to tell me what I already knew and told them from the beginning? The reason I had not already ordered the part was so that I could get hot water sooner. Not only did he not tell me the charge today, but clearly indicated that it would be better to call them back to do the job. I still do not have a notion, what kind of money I will need to have in order to get this problem resolved. I am a Registered Nurse and can tell you, that we are expected to give straight answers to people. Stevens needs to know that this is not acceptable.

Description of Work: Replaced old furnace and air conditioner.

Description of Work: We have an overhead sewer with an exterior cleanout, access all the way to the street. Annually, we have a plumber do a spring cleanout as a precautionary measure removing roots that have migrated into the sewer drain from the parkway trees. This year I chose to do it a little earlier because of the warmer weather. Glad I did, as many roots were cut and taken out.

Description of Work: With a backed-up sewer line in the basement, we needed service fast. Stephens sent a very knowledgeable serviceman the same day we called. He explored a couple of possible causes and quickly determined that the pipe to the street was blocked by tree roots. He brought in the necessary equipment, cleared out the pipe, and our trouble was over. After every trip to the truck, he used booties over his shoes, and he cleaned up his work area in the basement. He was tidy, polite, and clearly experienced in his work. We will call Stephens again in a heartbeat.
