Work done was fine. I feel the price was a bit high and I was quoted a price before mentioning I was an Angie's List subscriber but when I submitted my coupon I was told that the discount was already factored in.

Im not sure how this is a C rating when we got three A's a B and a C. That averages out to a B. With regards to the installation, we had to core through a brick wall. Our usual price is $300.00 and we charged $265.00

They said that they would have to charge extra to fix someone else's mistake when it's their mistake I want them to fix. The owner said he would come out again but he never did and he never called back.
Description of Work: They were supposed to extend the gutter on the northwest and the southwest side. They extended the gutter but didn't do it correctly so now there is a downpour from certain sections of the gutters when it rains.

Work was done very well. They came out on 2 separate occasions at my request and were on time both times. Also finished both projects promptly and cleaned up after themselves. Had a little scheduling hiccup where the owner stepped in immediately and dealt with fully. Couldn't ask for more, I intend to use You've Got a Guy for all my handyman type projects in the future.

This customer left a message on Sept 1 that he was having problems with the work we did. We contacted him that day to let him know that his work was under warranty and that we would gladly come out to fix any problems he had. He stated that he didn't want us to come out. Originally, He was informed that fixing the wax ring on the toilet might not fix his problem. We reset his toilet and fixed his tile floor for two hundred dollars. I'm not sure why he has given us an F on price. I can understand him being upset that the wax ring didn't fix his problem, but we should at least be allowed to come and honor our warranty.

I called "You've Got A Guy' to get an estimate for some exterior painting. I left a message on their voice mail requesting they call me to schedule an appointment for an estimate for the exterior painting. The following day Matt Baffoe did call me ( I know this because his name was on my caller ID), but I was not home and he did not leave a message. I assumed that he would call me back After a week, when I had not heard from him, I called again and talked to Donna and she scheduled an appointment for the following Monday. On that Monday Matt called to let me know that he was running a little late, and he would be there shortly. He arrived a short time later and I showed him and the painting that I needed done and also a few small repair jobs on a screened sun room. Matt was very pleasant and professional and even suggested some things he could do to save my money. When he left he told me that he would send me the estimate either Monday night or Tuesday via email. After a week I still had not received his estimate. I called him again and spoke with Donna. She told me she would give Matt the message. It's been over a week since I left the message with Donna and I have yet to receive an estimate. If Matt was not interested in doing the job he should have just told me the day he was here. I am very disappointed in the was "You've Got A Guy" handled this.

I cannot speak highly enough about this company. From the the initial contact to the final service, every moment was highly professional. The quotes were provided in writing and sent to me via email within 24 hours of my request.. I had recently had become disabled with back problems and couldn't do house hold maintenance. and needed help with a range of tasks. "You Got A Guy" sent Tom out the first day who hung a 8'x5' tapestry that weighted over 150 lbs. He ensured it was absolutely centered and level, including me in the process. All along the way he was concerned about my satisfaction with the task. He came up with a very unique solution to hang the tapestry so there is literally no nails showing. Additionally he rebuilt a wood box, changed light bulbs all through the house, put up smoke detectors where there needed to be in a refinished basement and tried to fix an electrical problem in our gazebo. When he couldn't, he contacted Matthew Baffoe who coordinates services. Since I was also having the deck and gazebo painted next day, a person with electrical figured out the problem (which was simple) walked us through what caused it, and fixed it. Here is the thing that really struck me. Every one of these men where extremely polite, efficient, and hard working. When they arrived at my door in the morning, they were here when they said they were going to be here. They greeted me with a handshake, and introduced themselves. They outlined the tasks, as they understood them and asked for clarification. They asked if there was any further work that they could do for me. When they were finished, they walked me through the tasks and asked for my approval. If I had a problem, I am sure they would have fixed it. . . but I never had any issues. This kind of interpersonal professionalism is just so nice. Not only that, the quality of their work matches their interpersonal style. What more can you ask. . . . Hire these guys. I can assure you that you won't be disappointed.
Description of Work: I had "You Got A Guy" do a range of household maintenance tasks : hanging a large 8'x5' 150lb tapestry rebuilding a wood box to store logs for fireplace repair electricity to gazebo new light bulbs throughout house new smoke detectors for basement that has recently been refinished repair and repaint deck furniture paint deck paint gazebo I received a written estimate from Matthew Baffoe ( 773-391-8062) who coordinates services. What the estimate was is what I paid. There were no hidden costs, no games, nothing like that. The document provided stipulated what the down payment was for services, what the timeline was etc. Matthew was in contact with me four times during the week that services were rendered, checking in to see if thing were going well, making sure the I understood the timeline for painting of the deck and gazebo, etc. I knew if I had any issue, I could phone Matthew. Again, however, I just doubted that would ever be necessary given the professionalism of the guys. They sincerely want the clients to be pleased with their work and they want to leave the day with pride in what they have done.

Ray from You've Got a Guy showed up on time. He worked very hard and replaced the toilet. He had to go to the store to replace one of the parts I had bought, as I was given the wrong measurements by someone who had given me an estimate previously. It was difficult to remove the old faucet as it had been in place for 32 years. Ray kept at it ...he actually had to cut it out to remove it. He also found a pipe under the sink was corroding and replaced that as well. He was courteous and worked very hard. I have already had the owner come to give me an estimate on additional work to be done in another area of the house.

Last summer, I was taking estimates on various house "fixer-up" projects and contacted this company to come out and give me an estimate. Ken was the initial person that came out to give me an estimate. On the initial visit he was professional and polite. However, when he contacted me to follow-up on his bids, I questioned him on the high price of his estimate for painting, fixing plaster around my wall air conditioner, and putting up a new border in my bedroom downstairs. He quoted me $800.00. I have hired painters in the past and they were no where near that expensive for that size of room and he wasn't even painting the molding or the ceiling for that price. Anyway, he became extremely rude when I questioned him and told me that if I wanted his "A" Team to do the job then that was what I was going to pay. Against my better judgement, I gave him the job and he asked for a check up front for 50% of the project ($400.00). He was very pushy about wanting to pick up that 50% deposit check right away. Unfortunately, I was in a head-on car accident in September, 2010 and had to suspend all of my projects at the time. I believe I emailed all of the contractors that I was planning to do business with and told them my situation. I called today to schedule them to come out to finish the job and was told by Matt Baffoe that the original contract expired after 90 Days and in the spirit of being neighborly, they could come by next week and review the project again, probably with the intention of raising the price again. He said with regards to the down payment, that was not refundable. I pulled my contract and it doesn't say anything about the estimate being null and void after 90 day, nor does it say anything about refunds being non-refundable. Needless to say, I will not be recommending them to anyone nor will I be hiring them for any further work.
Description of Work: They were supposed to paint a downstairs bedroom, repair the plaster damage around the wall unit air conditioner and put up a new wall paper boarder in the bedroom. The weren't painting the ceiling or the crown molding around the ceiling. Basically, they came out to give me an estimate, took my 50% deposit ($400.00), and insulted me when I questioned their rates.

Response from You've Got A Guy Inc
On June 14, 2010, this customer signed a contract to fix cracks in her walls, including a three foot by one foot area of water damage (bubbling plaster, missing trim, a large gap) created by condensation from an air conditioner, remove a border, sand area and prepare it for painting, prime patches, and paint the room. The charge for this was $800.00 and the customer put 50% down ($400.00). We spent three months trying to contact this customer with no reply. You've Got a Guy, Inc didn't hear back from the customer until July 3, 2011(over a year after the contract was signed). At this time, the customer wanted us to start her job and give her a 10% discount because she was an Angie's List customer. We informed her that our contract was nullified after ninety days, and her down payment was non refundable, but we were willing to act like good neighbors and take a second look for her and see what we could do. I, Matt Baffoe, the owner of the company, offered to go to her home and review the job in person, however, this customer declined that and threatened to give us a bad review on Angie's List and the Better Business Bureau's websites if we didn't start her job and give her a discount. She also insinuated that I was just trying to get more money out of her. At this point, I decided to keep her down payment to cover supplies, man power (I had to pay a sales person, phone calls, emails, etc) and aggravation. Here is a list of factors that influenced my decision. The customer starts by complaining about the total amount of the job. To begin with, the total amount of the job is fair, and if she didn't think so, then why did she sign the contract? The patch under the AC unit is large and would require quite a bit of labor. Any time you remove wall paper, you don't know what your going to run into beneath it. She makes it sound like an in/out job, but it wasn't at all. She tries to make it sound like she was in an accident and we didn't respect a personal tragedy, insinuating that we are bad people for not honoring her contract. Please notice that the accident took place at least a month and a half (maybe more) after the contract was signed. Why didn't she respond to us before the accident? Perhaps, if she informed us about her personal tragedy, we would've made arrangements that could suit her needs, or refund her money. Contacting us a year later and threatening us for a discount wasn't the way to go about getting this job done. Did I mention that she has also threatened to turn us in to the Secretary of State (she will be told that everything we've done is legal and within our rights). I'm a diabetic. I understand how hard life can be. One of my staff members lost his parents by the time he was nineteen. I have lost five family members to cancer, including my mom, my dad, and my brother. Trust me, if this person would've just gotten a hold of us, we would have done what ever it takes to help her. If she had been a little less rude a year later, I would've been more than willing to listen and perhaps cut her a break. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case. I'm not sure why Angie's List has allowed this dispute. Angie's List isn't supposed to allow disputes that are over a year old. They are saying that there are special circumstances here because this person was in a head on collision - an accident that occurred a full month and a half after the signed contract. In truth, we are left to take the customer's word that she was debilitated in an accident (I'm not saying she wasn't), and that her story is to be taken at face value. I'm not certain what happened to her, but I am certain that You've Got a Guy, Inc will not be threatened by customers for any reason. Shame on Angie's List for allowing this dispute. As a paid advertiser on this system, a two year Super Service award winner, and an A company, I'm more than a little disgruntled about this.

I found You've Got a Guy on Angie's list. I selected You've Got a Guy for the job based on their ability to cover the entire scope of work, professionalism, and price. Matt arrived promptly for the estimate, and send a detailed estimate right away. Matt and Tom came to my house the week before work began. They walked around with me to make sure all of the details and instructions were complete. They told me exactly what to expect and gave me some hints and tips for things that I could do to make the job more efficient. Their information was accurate, and their tips helped our family be ready for and relaxed throughout the entire project. Matt helped me to choose the interior paint colors. I was hesitant about a couple of the colors at first, but I love them. They turned out to be the perfect combination of modern, urban colors and a 100 year old house with many original features and woodwork. Tom saved my kitchen cabinets. Over the years they had lost much of their finish and stain. I had decided to paint them, but with my permission, he took a drawer face and blended a stain to match. I was very pleased that I would not have to paint beautiful wood cabinets. When he finished sanding, staining and applying polyurethane, the cabinets look new. No one can tell where they used to be a mess. He also repaired and stained the original french doors in the living room. They look terrific, and I am glad I decided against removing them. Before the exterior could be painted, the stucco needed to be repaired in a few places. Once the house was painted, the repairs do not show. I now have complete exterior walls without cracks and holes. In the course of the work done by You've Got a Guy, the crew found a couple of problems with my house unrelated to the original scope of work. They brought these problems to my attention. They had good suggestions and quality solutions to recommend. For example, my cinder block porch had been caulked rather than tuck-pointed by a previous owner, and the blocks were not stable. You've Got a Guy tuck-pointed my porch, and it looks great. As a bonus, all of the windows on the porch now open properly. Based on their competence and professionalism, I decided to also hire You've Got a Guy for the long list of handyman work I planned to do after the painting was finished. For each of these additional jobs, Matt provided me with a written estimate, although in some cases they just fixed minor details during the course of their painting work. Each of these tasks was handled quickly and done well. As an example, they were able to repair the 5 drawers on my 100 year old built in hutch so that the drawers now glide properly and sit correctly on the slides. I expected more damage to my extensive plantings, and was pleased at how little damage they did. The clean up job after the painting was through. We are pleased with how the house looks. Several neighbors have commented on how nice it looks, and at least one hired You've Got a Guy based on their work on my house. The crew arrived promptly each day. If they were going to be picking up supplies and arriving later than expected, they always let me know. The crew was professional and courteous throughout the project. Over two weeks, I overheard several conversations. At no time was I concerned with what my teenagers or kindergarten neighbors might overhear. It was an overall pleasant experience. In sum, it was a professional job by a professional crew. Matt's estimates for You've Got a Guy were accurate and detailed. My questions were answered promptly and completely. I will hire them again.

Mr. Baffoe did a walk-through with me before offering a quote. He spent at least an hour looking at the work that needed to be done and talking with me. We spoke in detail about various options for repairs and he made several quite sensible suggestions for how to proceed given that we weren't sure how much damage was lurking behind the ruined drywall. He is very down-to-earth and knowledgable. Once I had accepted his bid, four different workers came to the house to perform the various tasks. All of them arrived when they said they would. I was impressed by the competence, efficiency and friendliness of each of them. The smaller repairs and exterior painting were done quickly and completely to my satisfaction. The larger jobs (drywall and painting) took a full day each. The ceilings look perfect: you would never know there had been damage. I was particularly pleased with the care these workers took to protect the rest of the house while doing the drywall project and the painting. They carefully hung plastic sheeting to prevent drywall dust from escaping the work area. Before painting they again carefully covered every possible surface to prevent paint drips. I run a home-based daycare. I have never had such an easy time having workers in the house before. These men were perfectly accommodating of the fact that the children needed quiet nap times and that I needed access to the kitchen for food prep, even while the big jobs were in progress. They were uniformly friendly to the kids. I will certainly hire You've Got A Guy Inc to do drywall, painting or any other home repair projects in the future. Excellent work and *really* nice guys.
Description of Work: I hired You've Got A Guy Inc. (Matt Baffoe and his helpers) to repair three areas of water-damaged ceiling drywall, repaint an entire ceiling, scrape and repaint an exterior metal lintel, repair some water-damaged basement concrete, repair two malfunctioning doorknobs, rehang a set of folding closet doors that had come off their runners, and remove a kitchen cabinet to make way for a new fridge.

Both members of this household are really nice people. We adored the kids. This memeber has a point. Although we are up to ten workers, the summer is our busiest time of the year. The best I can say is that you should schedule an appointment with us asap so that we can fit you into our schedule immediately.

The were very punctual from the time of the quote to the time of the repair. However, after my leak was first repaired, Rick, immediately filled in the hole without waiting for the caulk to dry, so my basement leaked in two days. I called Matt and Rick was there at 8 the next morning with apologies and more caulk. This time, after caulking the pipe, he let it air for the whole day to dry and after the big flood last night, no water. Thanks to both.
Description of Work: Repaired a leaky electrical pipe which wasn't caulked properly. You've Got a Guy dug a 2 X 2 foot deep hole and sprayed a cement caulk (not the proper term) around the pipe to stop the leak into my basement.

It was a pleasure doing business with Matt. He responded to my call immediately, provided a prompt and reasonable quote, and was able to accommodate my very tight time frame to have the work done. Ray came out the next day and performed the work. He was courteous, efficient and performed a quality job. I can't wait to use this company again and have already recommended them to a friend.

This customer is cool and fun to work for. We love working in Hyde Park because of people like this. Her sense of humor is great, but she expects her work to be done to an exacting standard. Obviously, we've hit the mark on more than one occasion.

I called Matt in the morning, he called me back within two hours. He came in the next day and gave me an estimate. He said he would complete the job the next week and on Tuesday it was done. The bill was 25.00 over because I changed the size. Everything went well. I would use him again
