Description of Work: I had a quote given by Matthew, price reasonable; he stated he would email me within a few days and to give him a call when I was ready for installation. I told him I would be ready the first week of November and would give him a call then. I never received an email after the initial visit, and I have left a few phones call with no response. I also emailed the company regarding the non-responsiveness and have not heard back. I am in the process of getting quotes from other contractors. I had stated to him that I wanted the work done before the holidays which did seem to be a problem.

This customer called us and was given a quote within five days. She indicated that she wanted the work done before the holidays and I said there was no problem. That was the last we heard from her until now. The customer has made one phone call and one email. We called her and emailed her back. Apparently that wasn't within her time frame.

Totally blown off.
Description of Work: I called Matt based on his glowing reviews on Angie's List, and that he actually posts responses. I described the job to him, a semi extensive list of things needed on a bathroom. He said he was on a job and can I e mail him, but that he wanted to come out and quote job in the next couple of days. I did that, and he didn't respond. I then went to Angies List and e mailed him from this response e mail, just in case the first one didn't go through. Again, no response. It's now almost a week later, no response from Matt and I lost a week and am scrambling to find someone. F for professionalism and for blowing me off.

I'm personally responsible for this. I lost my computer, my network and encountered a medical problem all in the same week. Not my best performance. I am completely sorry for the mix up. I thought that this customer was sent an email explaining this. By the time all the dust settled, there were a few customers who weren't contacted.

Everyone I dealt with was professional, punctual and trustworthy. All jobs were done efficiently and competently . It feels good to have everything working right. I am pleased with my first Angie's List experience.
Description of Work: Work performed included installing a ballast, installing a light fixture, repairing sliding closet doors that were off track, put together a plant stand and a few other small tasks. Provided an estimate to install vanity top and bathroom floor.

Great. After an initial lapse in communication (I had to contact them twice to schedule our meeting), the entire process ran smoothly and professionally. They came to my house and thoroughly went over all of the issues and problems that I wanted repaired.
Description of Work: Matt came out to provide estimates for some home repairs around our house. Matt and his brother were very friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. They offered many ideas on how to fix some tricky problems (e.g., fireplace mantel, slanted drywall, light fixture issues, etc.). Additionally, their price estimate was fair and reasonable. At this point, we've decided to stop any additional work around the house but if/when we change our mind, we'll definitely contact "You've Got a Guy".

They were courteous, communicated any concerns, and worked overtime to complete the project. If we were unsatisfied, Matt and his team redid it to our satisfaction. Due to the severity of the water damage, this was a long project. Matt and his team were sympathetic and contentious to our situation. I strongly recommend Matt to anyone.

These folks were great to work for. They are a nice young couple living on the North Side and they were under the pressure that comes with unexpected home improvement problems. Even so, they were in unusually good spirits through it all. They have a beautiful home, a lovely daughter and nice little dog (we became buddies). They were a pleasure to work for.

First the gentleman called five minutes before he was to show up and asked where I was located and told me he would be late-5 minutes and was. Then had me show me what was to be done and did not have the electrical switch or hinges (although he did not need them). I just thought that since Matt came out Saturday to give me an estimate, the handyman should have everything with him. Was thorough and the work was done well, although my door was too old to handle new hinges. But had I not had someone here, he would have had to have come back because he was here for about three hours and I did not count on that long of a day and had to leave.
Description of Work: Replaced an old kitchen faucet with a new faucet. Put in a new switch in the kitchen. Recaulked my tub. Removed door hinges and put them back on and fixed my back gate hinge.

I'm not quite sure why the quality was a B when the work was "right on." As far as material is concerned, it's our policy that all material will be bought during the course of the project. We do this because customers pay for material separately from labor. If we buy material before hand, there is always the chance that the customer will back out at the last minute and we will be stuck with the bill. My apologies to this customer. All in all it was great working for her.

Weather delayed the start of the project, but once the weather cleared up and allowed them to paint the exterior the project moved along accordingly. Matt was readily available at all times via phone to answer any questions or concerns I might have had. Very happy with the end result, we were able to save/restore the original windows and replace the old storm windows with ones that better match our exterior and will also insulate better in the winter.
Description of Work: Removed old aluminum storm windows on 2 large bay windows(each has 1 center piece with 2 side pieces). Repainted and touched-up exterior of wood windows. Installed brand new storm windows in both bay windows(6 seperate pieces).

It was a pleasure working for this member. He's a good guy with a good sense of humor. The truth is, the weather turned a three day job into a two week job, but the member was very understanding (we couldn't paint in the rain). In the end, the job looked good and he was happy, what more can you ask for.

The principal job was relaying a concrete sidewalk. They also installed a stair rail, patched concrete steps, and installed a new kitchen faucet. I will use them again.
Description of Work: Had a very good experience with Matt and Mike Baffoe. My 3-flat failed a CHAC inspection and I needed to get some work done quickly. They came out right away, gave me an estimate and then got the work done quickly and efficiently.

Matt Baffoe sent over a carpenter named Matt. Matt, the carpenter, installed the deadbolt correctly and quickly. The door/frame replacement took longer than expected, but Matt stayed till the job was done. There were some complications along the way, but Matt handled everything, despite it taking a couple hours longer than expected. No additional costs were incurred. Matt was careful not to damage anything and to clean up all of the mess. He also took the old door/frame down to our garbage area. When my wife came home, she liked how everything looked but was unhappy with how the new door closed. She felt it didn't swing freely enough. About a week after the work was done, Matt Baffoe IM'ed me to see how everything went and if we were happy. I explained the concern with the door not swinging freely. He wished I'd called sooner, scheduled Matt, the carpenter to come out a week later. Matt was able to make some adjustments that made the door swing freely and appeased my wife. Matt Baffoe contacted me within days to make sure everything was done to our liking, and they were. Oh yeah, no extra costs for the return visit. Bottom line: The guys from You've Got a Guy, honored their original quote despite the additional work once the old door/frame were down. They worked hard to make sure we were happy with the work, and they didn't nickel and dime us. I'd work with them again.
Description of Work: I needed two items taken care of, first a deadbolt to be installed on my balcony door and second replace an existing door/frame with a new pre-hung door.

Matt's team was able to meet to get the job done when the weather finally permitted. They were able to get the job done in only half a day rather than an entire one like they originally thought it would take. His workers were courteous and explained what they were doing to me. They also did an excellent job of cleaning up after themselves when they were through.

Nightmare / Incompetent - Had to redo entire project at great expense. Should have cost around $5,500... labor and materials. We ended up spending close to $12,000. Pipes leaked into basement, electric done incorrectly, no wax ring used when installing toilet, left holes in floor, tile unevenly measured, whirlpool bathtub damaged and installed incorrectly... to fix the whirlpool we had to rip out a large section of the adjoining bedroom wall. Matt Baffoe said 10 days, but took a month (asking for money the entire time) before I fired him (with the job still incomplete.) There is not enough text space available to begin to explain what was found after we had to tear the walls down after he left - feel free to call 773.206.9589 to talk or arrange a visit to see where he screwed the exhaust vent to the outside of the building, but never drilled the hole through the wall.

This project was not done by my company, but by me alone. It isn't fair to the men I hire to have to take this on. At the time, I took on a project that was too big for me and it bit me in the a**. You've Got a Guy has grown to a company of nine very competent employees. We have done work all over the city and burbs and have plenty of references to prove it. No, I don't do any of the handywork, but my men do. We are fully insured. For the record, this customer never made me aware of any leaks. The electric was all done to code. There most certainly was a wax ring installed in the toilet. The tub was installed to the manufacturers specs. I'm not going to respond to the low class to which she stoops on her final comment, (give some thought to what kind of a person would make those kind of comments) but if you want good representation of what You've Got a Guy does, please read the other responses. In the end, I hope Angie's list customers are smart enough to look at all of the responses before making their decision. You can call me at 773-391-8062.

Matt was very professional in taking my call and recording my information. He met with me at the time he specified and was able to give me a quote for this small job on the spot. When he was supposed to meet with me again he called ahead to say he was going to be late which is something most handymen do not do, they will just not show up without an explanation. Matt gave me recommendations on how to solve a couple of problems without going overboard. He does good work for a fair price and I will hire him again.
