Johann was very professional. He gave us a quote promtly and provided information on him and his work. When we accepted his proposal, he was very good at following up and keeping us posted in regards to timing. He worked us in between one of his larger jobs and finished the work on time as promised. He even helped us caulk areas that were separate from where he was working! Great attention to detail and our house was spotless when the job was done. I plan to use him in years to come for any other tile needs we may have!
Description of Work: Did a small square tile back splash in our kitchen, a backsplash by our wet bar and some decorative tiles by our fire place.

great! johann was not the cheapest bid, but he wasn't the most expensive, either. the tile looks fantastic. the spaces between the tiles are perfect and they did a lovely job around the window framing it out with marble. they squeezed me into their schedule on short notice and showed up when they said they would and finished when they promised. i would definitely hire them again.
Description of Work: taped, mudded & waterproofed the durock walls and floor which were build by someone else, then tiled walk in shower with 12x12 marble and tiled bathroom floor with mosaic 2x2 marble, and tiled (i don't know what to call it -- baseboard?) three inches above the floor all the way around the walls, then grouted with a custom mix of grout (half grey and half white to make a light grey), then sealed the marble and caulked all around the shower with clear silicone caulk.

Another supplier had installed an expensive limestone tile on the walls and floor of our master bath, and did a ludicrously bad job. Tigele rescued the title without a single piece needing to be replaced. They responded quickly to our distress call, quoted us a good price, and scheduled the work between other larger jobs they were working on. They arrived promptly, working without stopping and left the work space cleaner than when they arrived. Most importantly, they did an impeccable job repairing the tile work, giving us results far superior than even our best hope. The overall experience was as good as it gets -- we hope to work with them in the future on a start-to-finish job.

Johann from Tigele Tile assessed each job, provided individual quotes, contacted tenants and scheduled work for a mutually convenient date and time. He was on time, courteous to tenants and performed his work in a professional manner, followed by a proper clean up. One job had complications that could not have been anticipated, Johann offered a reasonable solution, even replaced a shower head that prevented future wall damage from occurring. Tenants are happy, landlord happy, would definitely recommend and use Tigele Tile again.
Description of Work: Worked on two tenant occupied apartments. First apartment had wall tiles coming loose from bathroom walls and shower area. Second apartment had prior plumbing repair work that created a 2' X 2' area with a board covering repaired area and mosaic tile missing.

Any time there was an issue or question, we would talk about the pros and cons of each scenario. They were extremely neat, cleaned up each day. The work was perfect (with a couple minor tweaks here and there)
Description of Work: I interviewed several contractors and Johann impressed me the most. We ended up doing an entire gut of master bath. We expanded the shower, replace the tub and vanity and ran new water lines.

Johann was great. The price was nice but he mainly came recommended for his quality. I think he underestimated how long it would take to install the hardware, but he still only charged $90 extra for it. We plan on using him for our bathroom floor because he did great work in the kitchen. He came with another gentleman who was also very nice and professional. He just happened to have some free time so he was able to knock out our backsplash in a couple of half days. They were very meticulous during they job. As a side note, he gave us a rough estimate on how many square feet of tile we would need but he ended up being spot on. To be safe we bought three extra square feet but didn't need it. We'll use him again.
Description of Work: Tigele Tile & Mosaics installed a kitchen backsplash for us. He also installed some kitchen hardware for us.

I am so thankful to Angie?s List for helping me find Tigele. I've owed Tigele a superlative review for quite a few months. Johann is an absolute master at what he does. Johann and his crew expertly tiled the floor in my kitchen and hallway, and installed finished tin panels as the backsplash to my new counter in early June 2010. This was a remodel that I'd been waiting 20 years for and the results are stunning. My friends and neighbors love it. I had a vision for my kitchen and hall, and I wanted full control over the materials and design. Everything was done to my very exacting specifications. I had been assembling design ideas for a long time and had ordered the materials (tile and tin) independently. I developed the tile pattern myself, but Johann worked closely with me to make sure that the finished look would be as attractive as I had imagined it. He worked with me every step of the way, and helped my vision into reality. This was a difficult, intricate job, albeit small. The design was further complicated in that it had to flow easily from the 10x10 kitchen to the front room exposed, raised hall entryway; and two different, but closely related tile designs were being used. This required particular attention to very exact measurements and centering of certain key tiles and the design that traveled down the entry hall into the kitchen. When I noticed during one of the day?s work that the tile design was edging over off the center line from the front door to the kitchen door, Johann came himself, tore up, and re-laid half a day?s work. That is the hallmark of a man who takes pride in his work. The demolition job was crazy. It involved pulling up no less than 3 (that's three) sub-floors in the kitchen. and a concrete substrate in the hallway that was a terrible removal. The wrecking and demolition took 3 days. Because of these many sub-floors, the kitchen started out uneven with both the hallway on one side, and the dining room on the other side of the kitchen. I wanted them to all flow as one. And the hallway and the kitchen had to be made precisely level so they could be tiled as though they were one floor. At various points, I discussed the possibility with Johann for whether we would take on the demolition or his crew, because I originally thought that maybe we would do some of it, particularly our backsplash. to save some money. The amount Johann charged for demo was not that much, and though it might have saved us a bit, the difficulty of demolition can be grossly underestimated, and I?d recommend to anyone to allow his crew to take it on. We did and we were relieved that we did., since the demolition took a number of days. The crew hauled away the debris each night, religiously. They stayed in the work area, and constructed plastic barriers, and we covered as much of the furniture as possible to protect from the dust?(Just as a note, though?everything will get dusty. Pretty much unavoidable.). Then on to the floor tiling. I had bought the tile and the decorative inserts independently, and had worked up several designs of my own. After discussion with Johann, we settled on a design that would require them to be cutting odd sized strips (13x19 tiles had to made into 3x13 that surrounded every main tile), and there were a lot of them to complete. Again exacting work. The tin work was an adventure, and Johann did that himself? with multiple cuts as his reward. But he made it look beautiful, and it is very difficult to determine where the seams are! For the new design tile cuts there were additional labor charges, which I paid happily to get what I wanted. The additional cost was fair, and the higher time investment to do it was worked into their schedule seamlessly. Because my design evolved over time I was certainly OK with the price variation from the estimate, and found it was much less than what I expected for the changes I wanted. A couple of things to note, most of the workmen are Polish, and a few speak only Polish? but Johann translates perfectly, and is available when any communication is needed. Also, post completion of the job, we discovered that a couple less used outlets were not working. Turned out that when the workmen were demolishing the floor a conduit buried in the floor was partially cut, and it wasn?t noticed. We incurred a charge for an electrician to fix it, and Johann was incredibly cooperative and reimbursed us immediately with absolutely no argument. That?s also a quality of this company that?s very positive?.taking responsibility. Anyway, enjoy the photos of the delightful transformation. [Please note that the granite was done by someone else, though I believe Tigele will do that also.)

My plumbing drain/vent stack needed to be replaced, behind 2 bathrooms' walls (first floor, second floor) and I needed an extremely meticulous demolishing to give the plumbers access, followed by an equally meticulous reconstruction of 2 entire walls. Basically the bathrooms were starting out in perfect condition, and I wanted to keep them that way. Johann and his colleague Janosch came to assess the scope of the work in terms of time and materials needed, and that same evening emailed me a comprehensive quote, evidence of insurance etc., which included scheduling considerations (since plumbers needed to have time to access behind the walls before he was to put them back up again). Having researched a couple of other contractors, I found Johann's quote to be not too high or too low, but what really convinced me to use him was his website that showcased some of the incredible tile-work he has done. For projects like this you really want to be sure that he will pay the utmost attention to detail. Throughout the process Johann worked cleanly and diligently, extremely fast, and generally long hours (much appreciated because we had family coming to visit); also, for a price he offered to patch several drywall holes that the plumbers had needed to make in the course of their work. These were done perfectly and are so completely unnoticeable it is ridiculous. The drywall and tile-work is perfect, and he warranties his work for one year so you can rest assured that if a crack develops or something doesn't settle right or whatever, he has that covered. Should you be considering Tigele for any work, I would encourage you to ask Johann to put the two of us in contact by email or phone and I would be happy to discuss my experience.

We had Johann and his crew install our tile back splash in August 2010. They were reasonably priced, on time and to say that they are perfectionists when it comes to tile work is an understatement. In November 2010, I received four estimates to remodel two small bathrooms in my condo and Johann's quotes were the lowest and since the first job they did was so fantastic we almost couldn't believe that they were the lowest quote, so we went with them again. Johann squeezed our job in to accommodate my schedule and to ensure it got done before the holidays. He estimated a week and a half for the whole job and they ended one day early. When they ran into an unforeseen problem they only charged me for the materials and no labor to fix it. Johann came on a Saturday to do the tile work himself and as predicted it looks flawless. The remainder of the days another employee did the rest of the work (demo, repaired joists, drywall, grout, installed vanity, granite countertops, cabinets, mirrors, fans, light fixtures, accessories and painted). He was on time and he worked from 8-6 straight with a 15 minute lunch break in his car each day. When the shower door I ordered from Home Depot had not shipped on time, Johann's employee offered to meet me at another supplier to pick up the new door that I purchased since it didn't fit in my car, and he stored it in his van overnight and brought it to the job for me the next day. His work was clean, precise and beautiful. I could tell that he had years of experience and takes pride in his work. I recommend that anyone getting quotes to do any of the work I noted above go with Johann because I plan to work with him again in the future!

To preface, I am a tile installer?s worst nightmare. I am a both a designer and a perfectionist. I do not compromise. In addition, I have a background in general contracting and I know the right way to do the job and do not accept shortcuts. Having renovated many apartments in the past few years, I've had the opportunity to audition a number of installers, many who m are highly regarded on Angie?s list. Tigele Tile & Mosaics (Johann) is the only I?ll use going forward. His works speaks for itself, but for a qualitative assessment, see below: * SKILL ? True master of the trade. This certainly was not an easy job, especially in one bath with 36? large format tiles. Grout lines are tight and straight, and joints are flat and in perfect alignment. Fit and finish was perfect. *Exceptional knowledge of innovative/best practice use of materials, not just tile and grout, but the important stuff such as waterproof membranes, lightweight high strength backer board and everything else on the leading edge in the tile/grout/shower universe. While so many others pride themselves as being ?old school?, what they are really doing is installing substandard and inferior products that have long since been improved. Why anyone would accept this attitude for a shower that they hope will last with minimal maintenance, but could potentially become an expensive disaster/liability, is beyond me. Tile is cheap, labor is not. Get it right the first time . * High standard of excellence. Things came out right the first time without shortcuts or cutting corners. Its Johann?s eye for design and thoughtful execution that made a great design look truly exceptional. * Trustworthy, would have no problem leaving them unsupervised in my home. Also, would trust them t to do a good job without policing. * No attitude, no BS. Johann was actually a pleasure to have around. *Arrived on time, finished on time and most importantly stayed within the budget. The bottom line is that while I have gotten acceptable work from other tile installers, it was like pulling teeth. With this renovation, the bathrooms were the only area I didn?t have to worry about, and for that, I thank Tigele Tile. If anyone would like to see pictures of the work Johann did for me, feel free to email me at 7 7 7 c u b s @ g m a i l d o t c o m.

Johann was a class act from beginning to end. He is a perfectionist and it shows. His work is impeccable and he takes the time to discuss and explain options and how things work. He is a consummate professional and all around good hard working guy. I would strongly recommend him to anyone who need their bathroom remodeled or any tile wok done.
Description of Work: removed tiles, replaced leaking shower basin, installed new basin, installed new tiles, installed shower door
Johann was very responsive to our request for an estimate. He came out and provided an honest assessment on work, providing us with two different options for tile repair. While he wasn't the cheapest estimate we received, we felt most comfortable with his experience and knowledge level. The final work product was excellent. He and his crew were very prompt and also very clean. They covered everything in the bathroom to ensure the dust would be kept to a minimum. Overall, it was a very good experience and we would definitely use him again.

Johann and his team did a great job from start to finish, always staying in touch and providing updates on the work. Our condo was built in the 30's so there were some unexpected problems along the way, which were always handled quickly and professionally. Johann also was invaluable in helping us select materials and control the quality of everything that was installed. It was clear throughout the project that they would do anything to ensure that we were happy with the job and we were! I'd use them again and plan to do so in the spring.
Description of Work: Completely gutted kitchen and bathroom. Tiled shower surround, base and floor. Installed new sink, toilet and all other plumbing and lighting fixtures (including a new venting fan where there hadn't been one previously) - converted shower/tub to shower with corner seat. Installed pocket door to give small bath additional space. Leveled floor and installed tile in enclosed porch. In the kitchen installed sink, cabinets, quartz countertops, refinished wood floor, installed new recessed lighting, vented microwave/fan to exterior, and reframed a custom space for a new window. Reconfigured plumbing to move sink to a new wall, as well as add plumbing for a new dishwasher. Stained and installed new doors. Created new custom moldings for vintage windows and doorways. Installed new shelving and pegboards in pantry.

Johann is extremely professional, returning all calls and emails promptly. He explained all aspects of the job, explaining what would and would not work for the installation. (ex. my entryway slopes down to one corner, he pointed that out and explained what would be involved if I wanted to correct that. I chose not to correct that.) He provided a detailed written estimate. He also provided several options for where to obtain tile. As for the quality of the work, it is truly craftmanship. I couldn't be more pleased with the work performed by Johann and his assistant Janusz. There was meticulous attention to detail. All routes into the house were covered with dropcloths or kraft paper, and the job was completely cleaned up each day. I recommend Tigele without reservation.
Description of Work: Tigele removed the existing ceramic tile in the bathroom. They scraped and leveled the underlying old ceramic mosaic tile and used self leveling cement to form a good base for the new tile. They then installed mosaic ceramic tile and tile baseboard in the bathroom and installed a new vanity. They also painted behind the new vanity prior to placing it since it was smaller than the old vanity. They replaced the existing toilet. They also installed ceramic tile in the entryway.

Our master shower was not properly pitched and was not generally constructed well. This was a big job as the glass had to be removed and the entire floor had to be redone with granite/marble floors, walls, step, etc. Other contractors gave us quotes that were very unreasonable. I believe Johann was very reasonable and his timeliness (completing the job in one week) and work was great! A good contractor experience. I must also mention he did some other grouting in our bathrooms for free.
Description of Work: Re-constructing a master bathroom marble steam shower floor.
From the get-go, I felt very comfortable with Johann. He was responsive, fair, and knowledgeable. He is a great communicator: emails, text, phone calls or even pictures emailed and send to my phone everyday, showing work progress or unexpected issues after opening the walls or floor demo. Staying at work all day, I didn't have to worry how the remodeling process progress. Threw in a few great layout ideas he had. His price was very competitive with other companies and he had all the necessary paperwork that my building was requiring. Actually his wife Lisa was taking care of the paper work and she is very very nice and knowledgeable as well. The process of getting them started was relatively painless when compared with other contractors. Once inside, Johann and his guys worked diligently and at a great pace. They were responsive when we found things that needed fixing/adjusting. They were great problem solvers, as things tend to come up with old buildings. And little touches of creativity were a pleasant surprise... The most honorable thing throughout was that Johann was always reachable and responsive. I had no trouble getting in touch with him 7-days-a-week, which was huge. I always felt as though I was in good hands, from beginning to end.

We purchased frosted glass subway tiles (7.5cm x 15 cm) and white, sandless grout from another vendor. I contacted Johann on Sept 3 or 4 about installing a glass subway tile kitchen backsplash, and he responded Sept 4 with an estimate for $790. I asked him to view our condo's kitchen so I could get a firmer price. My schedule prevented him seeing the place until Sept. 11. He said the estimate should be fine and that he would prefer to supply his own thinset. He had availability on Monday, Sept. 13, so I agreed to hire him for the job. He arrived at 8:30AM on Monday and began working on the backsplash. The job was conscientious and professional. When Johann determined that color variation might be an issue with the glass tiles, he contacted me and sent me pictures with his iPhone. I talked to him on the phone and authorized him to proceed. My wife stopped by later to see the progress and was impressed with how efficiently and carefully Johann and his co-worker chose the tiles in order to space out the variation. He returned the next day to grout the tile, and it looks great. My wife informed him that the condo's kitchen sink had a leaky faucet and bad drain pipe (in case he needed a water source for the wet saw). Johann told her that his co-worker could replace the kitchen pipes and install our new faucet for $140. We authorized him to proceed. Great work on that item too.

Went very well. He and his team were responsive to questions and changes throughout project and ultimately delivered exactly what I envisioned. The quality of workmanship was very good and expertise in tiling and plumbing was obvious. Price was more than I expected but I think that was 90-100% my fault in terms of making the job bigger than initially thought. I would use this company again and recommend to others. I suspect if I had a problem in the future with something, he would come to check it out and fix it as he seemed to value the happiness of his clients.

The job went very well. If you want to work with someone who will "do it right the first time" and offer suggestions for ways to get around difficult install problems, Johann is your guy. Because they did such a great job, I asked him and his crew to come back a month later to do some other install work that I've been putting off for awhile. They leave the place VERY clean and are so nice to work with. I highly recommend Tigele Tile.
Description of Work: Johann and his crew tore up poorly installed hardwood floors in my kitchen and entrance way and installed beautiful Travertine tile. It was a very challenging install because the original contractor did such a crap job. Johann put in a whole new subfloor and did a terrific job cutting around the cabinets and appliances. His crew also removed the cheap tile from my fireplace and installed stonework from floor to ceiling. The hearth was another tricky situation and Johann came up with a great solution and it looks great!

We were extremely pleased with the complete renovation of our two bathrooms. Johann was responsive and helpful from the very beginning - he responded very quickly by email and telephone. He and his wife often responded very late at night to emails. They were very responsive whenever we had questions or concerns. Johann was also helpful in making choices on materials and design. Although his schedule was quite busy, he worked us in relatively quickly. His workers, Peter and Paul, were very professional and courteous and were with us for the entire job (probably about 3 weeks total). The entire process went as smoothly as having two bathrooms completely torn up can go. They did a good job of keeping our house clean and keeping the dust to a minimum and also trying to minimize the disruption to our lives. I can't imagine that there are any other contractors who would have done any better at keeping the dust and mess contained. They arrived promptly (always early actually) every single day. They worked quickly but carefully and solved any issues as they arose. For a relatively major renovation, it was as smooth as one could hope for it to be. Johann and his staff were very professional. They paid close attention to detail and we have no doubts that things were done correctly. They required minimal supervision - we could trust them to do things correctly and to be respectful of our home. We had a few issues with the installation of our quartz countertops in the bathrooms and the backsplash in the kitchen with the subcontractor, which I believe were a result of the sub being too busy and the sub's employees trying to work too much in. Though it was a bit of a headache for a few days, Johann and his subcontractor worked with us to resolve the situation and it ultimately worked out just fine. Things can get rushed at the end of the job, so my only recommendation would be to stay on top of things the entire time, even at the end of the job or with any subs (though the sub for the glass shower doors was fantastic). I would not hesitate to hire Johann again, especially for a big renovation - we felt that the bathrooms and plumbing were not something for which you should cut corners - we wanted it done correctly and that's why we hired Johann. We probably could have paid less but I don't think the quality would have been as high and quality was our main priority. I should also note that they worked very efficiently and got the job done far quicker than I would have expected. I hate disruption and mess and was dreading the renovation process - I think that this was as smooth and easy as a major renovation could possibly be. They did an excellent job and I highly recommend them to anyone considering a major project.

estimate only -- see above positive experience
Description of Work: Received an estimate only-- very knowledgeable - tough call but decided to go with another company. Johann was very professional and believe I would have been happy if I used him I provided him the square footage given to me by another installer which turned out to be high -- so his estimate was likely high as a result. Final decision was based on when job could be completed.
