Sol and his brother and crew did a great job. We were in the middle of a chimney rebuild when that contractor discovered that we had no clay liner at all in our chimney. He recommended Sol. Sol was able to work with our schedule and get the liner in very quickly. We learned —the hard way— that because of our higher efficiency furnace we should've gotten a stainless steal liner installed at the time that we got our new furnace. And that's why the chimney was degrading so badly. Sol and his brother are good guys, very affable, professional and good with communication. Would totally recommend and hire them again.

The two brothers made the appointment for 9 to 9:30 a.m. on a Friday morning. They called to confirm the night before and the next morning, and they were right on time. They came for an estimate; we did not know if we were replacing the whole fireplace or just putting in gas. They gave a very reasonable estimate for both jobs and they wrote down the estimates very clearly so I could discuss the details with my husband. This company did not charge an estimation fee, driving fee, or any other fee. They politely provided sound advice and estimates. They were very friendly and open, and they did not appear to care only about making money. These two brothers care about quality work and pleasing their customers. They were very respectful and did not talk down to me, and they gave me good information to make a decision about our fireplace. We are going to have them do the job; we just need to decide between the two choices of replacing the fire-burning fireplace or installing gas. OUTSTANDING service!
Description of Work: We have an old fireplace that at one time burned wood, but the previous owners converted to electric (that now does not work). We are remodeling our family room and wanted to fix the fireplace one way or another. We had another fireplace company come look before Sol's, and they quoted a ridiculous price and charged to come out to our house ($85) even though they are minutes away from us. I found Sol's on Angie's List and decided to get another opinion. I asked them to give an estimate on either fixing the wood-burning elements of the fireplace or converting it to gas.

They were on time for the job and took the time to explain everything that they did and all the warranties that applied. They also removed an old antenna that was up there but not used even though it was not part of the job they came out to do. I will definitely use them again.
Description of Work: I originally called them because I kept hearing water dripping near the fireplace whenever it rained. After coming out for the inspection, they installed alum liner from top of chimney to water heater, replaced vent pipes from water heater to new liner, repaired all cracks in the crown and seal with crown coating, installed stainless steel chimney cap and cleaned behind the damper and sweep box.

Sol's Chimney Sweep was excellent. I left a message for Sol and he called me back within an hour. We scheduled service and I received a reminder call the day before. His technicians arrived on time and asked about the projects. The laundry room is on the second floor so it required going onto a ladder to inspect the dryer vent and then also the chimney. After looking in the basement, I was told that when we converted our furnace to a high-efficiency unit which vented directly outside we were left with a chimney vent that was too wide. It was causing some problems with our hot water heater that I had not even noticed. (The installer of the hot water heater did not mention this situation to me even though it was evident.) The solution was to put a new, smaller liner through the existing liner and connect it properly to the hot water heater. Our chimney chase cover was inspected and it was rusty but still maintains it's integrity. I was given a quote to replace the galvanized chase cover with a stainless steel one that included new storm collars for the fireplace and water heater. My fireplace box was inspected and options were given for new gas logs. While a quote for the chimney work and gas logs was being written, my dryer vent was cleaned thoroughly inside and outside. The work was done with minimal dust and the area was cleaned before leaving. I got a discount for being an Angie's List member and I felt the price was reasonable. I was left with the quote for the chimney vent/cover and gas logs. While getting other quotes, I discovered the HVAC contractor who is already working on our house could replace the vent and cover for us and the plumber could install the gas logs. Their prices were slightly better than Sol's but this is likely because of the larger jobs they are doing in our house. If I was not having this other work done by other contractors, I would hire Sol's. I was impressed by the professional, thorough inspection and reasonable quotes for the work that needed to be done. (The water puddling around the bottom of the fireplace turned out to be a gutter issue.)
Description of Work: My dryer had been turning off before the clothes were dried and it was recommended that I have the dryer vent cleaned. Also, our deck around the fireplace was puddling with water and we wanted to know if there was a problem with the chimney. We are having some remodeling done and also wanted to ask about installing gas logs.

They came out on a Friday, gave us the estimate for the sweep and the liner. They cleaned out the chimney which had about (3) five gallon buckets of dirt/debris. They cleaned the entire area up and vacuumed all remaining debris. Came back on Monday to install the liner. Everyone who worked on the job was very professional. I would highly recommend them again!

I called during the week and got an appointment for early Sunday morning. They were very flexible in adding me to their schedule. While looking at the base of the chimney in the basement, he noticed that our furnace needs a new liner. The review and estimate was thorough, and Sol was very professional. The reason we did not use him was the higher price and longer wait to have the work completed. However, he was recommended by another service proviser, and I had confidence in the quality of hte final work.

A great experience. We were having steam enter our house and damage drywall because the chimney was unlined. Sol's Chimney responded super quickly and were very educational and frank about our choices. They scheduled the work the next week, and after half a day, and much removed debris, our chimney is working well. They were very professional, and even offered to replace a broken valve on our water heater for a nominal fee after the crew smelled gas in the basement. Highly recommended.

The chimney cleaning was done, and the price was as quoted. However, he left information regarding his impression of our chimneys as he left which included changing the lining out (apparently it was so deteriorated that, he claimed, we were at risk of burning our house down) and caps quoted as nearly $2500. I had two different companies come after him to give quotes for new liners. The first was another Angie's list chimney company that took pictures and showed me a pristine chimney lining (not to mention a dirty chimney in some spots, so not sure about the completeness of the cleaning). In fact, the cement caps on top were not removable and thus one couldn't actually evaluate the top of the lining appropriately. This company stated that the lining was fine, and didn't even quote a price to put in a new lining. Then, I met someone at a local potluck who does chimneys and came over as a favor to offer an opinion and agreed that the lining was just fine, as were the caps. DON'T USE SOL'S CHIMNEYS! At least don't trust his impressions of the status of your chimney.

They were very courteous and very informative. I called them because I thought there was a gas leak and that it needed a good cleaning. It was assembled wrongly and was burning against the logs, which is why I got a smell. They reassembled and made it better. They made sure that the whole area was clean around it. It's been perfect ever since. There were reasonably priced. The original price was $130 and they took $45 off for the Angie's List discount which brought the price to $85. I would definitely hire them again because I would need their service in another house. The house that I'm looking at buying has wood-burning fireplaces. I want them to take a look at it and clean out the chimney stacks and everything.

They did a wonderful job and we liked them very much. We've used them before and they do a great job. The price seemed reasonable and I was pleased that it wasn't more than it was. They were a lot of help. They were there when they said they would be and they did the job they said they would do. There were not any problems or hang-ups. They were not rude and there was no trouble. I didn?t compare prices. We were having some trouble with our dryer and Sol told us it was because we hadn't had our vents cleaned the first time he worked for us. He said that we needed to have the vents cleaned at least once every two years and I told him that we would have it done every year and he said that was even better. That's what we do and our dryer works better. We will use them in the future.

Originally, we had called Sol's for a quote for work on our fireplace with gas logs; before we knew it they were doing a thorough cleaning of our fireplace and did a fantastic job, but since there was a misunderstanding as to expectations, he only charged us for a simple cleaning; our fireplace has never looked so good and my wife said they were very nice about the whole job. Other companies had quoted us for much more extensive work, but Sol's got everything cleaned and working well with joint repairs to the firebrick which we knew about. Other companies quoted close to a $1000 for repairs which I don' think we needed and Sol's confirmed that. It is so nice to find a reputable service company! Thanks guys.

Sol's was easy and pleasant to work with. Setting up an appointment was easy, they could come within 5 days, explaining usually they responded faster but it was holiday season and they were very busy. They called to arrange to arrive earlier than booked. They worked neatly, quickly and quietly, leaving no mess. They found a hole in the fireplace liner and gave me a quote on a new liner, sealing and tuckpointing. We are getting more quotes for comparison.

I had several companies quote on the major repairs that were needed on our chimney and fireplace. Sol's Chimney was the only company that didn't try to sell us more than we needed. Sol, his brother, Greg, and their employees are experts--very knowledgeable and skilled in chimney repair and refurbishing. Where all the other companies tried to sell a repair solution that cost twice as much and would require an expensive exhaust fan, Sol's repaired our chimney with the correct size liner so no fan is needed. They worked for two days and were very professional, clean, and finished early! Greg brought with him a very hard-working, polite and skilled crew that went above and beyond what we expected. We will finally be able to enjoy our fireplace this Christmas--and because of the fair price we received from Sol's, Santa's bag won't be empty! Thanks, Angie's List for letting us know about this great local company.

They were really great. Incredibly responsive, answered all my questions, very professional. They called the day prior to and morning of the work to let me know when they would be here. Not a lot to say because it all went very smoothly. Price breakdown is: $375 to remove old liner, $875 for new aluminum liner w/ 15 yr warranty (we decided not to go with stainless steel because of cost even though it lasts a lifetime; if we're in this house for our lifetime I've got other things to worry about besides the fireplace liner), $275 for the tuck pointing, $75 for the dryer vent and they included the fireplace cleaning for free. Lastly, what I really liked about them is there was no "fear" selling. No talk about carbon monoxide, no your house is going to fall apart and burn to the ground if you don't do x, y and z. They told me what needed to be done, they weren't dramatic about it and they fixed the problems.
Description of Work: Sol's replaced the liner in our chimney for the furnace, tuck pointed and cleaned the fireplace (firebox). I had a new clothes dryer delivered the same day so they also re-piped the dryer vent which needed a 4" and we had a 3".

Sol's was great -- we called in a panic on a Tuesday afternoon because the furnace guy came and had to turn our furnace and water heater off when he saw our blocked chimney, and Sol's was able to come by Wednesday afternoon. (After several calls to other vendors, we realized that they were all very nice folks but the first week of October is a terrible time to try to get a chimney sweep on short notice.) A two-man crew from Sol's called about a half hour before they arrived -- when they got here, they got straight to work. They diagnosed the problem (massive amounts of crap in our chimney) and cleared it out pretty quickly. Then they went up the side of the house to figure out how it happened. Turns out our chimney cap had either been chewed through or sawed through -- apparently it is not unheard of for some other less scrupulous chimney companies to widen holes in chimney caps, causing problems that you have to bring the original company back to fix. It sure looks like a clean edge on the hole in question when compared to the chew marks on other parts of the chimney cap. But whatever -- that was some other company hired long before we bought the place. Anyhow, Sol's guys spent two hours getting everything cleared out and replaced and then stuck around for a bit while our furnace blower dried out. Their price was very competitive with estimates we got from a couple other companies who couldn't come as quickly, and the guys were very thorough. We'd call them again in a heartbeat (hopefully it won't be necessary for a long while, but we now have their card on our fridge).
Description of Work: Sol's came out to remove a lot of debris from our chimney (probably stuffed in by squirrels through a hole in our chimney cap). They also replaced our chimney cap with a new VERY heavy-duty cap so this won't happen again.

Sol himself came out the week prior to servicing my fireplace to have a look at the cracked wall. He came on Labor Day morning even though he hadn't scheduled any appointments for the day. He gave a thorough inspection, gave me an estimate, and didn't charge me for his visit. His crew came the following Saturday on time, performed the service efficiently, were very nice, and the final price came in $20 less than I had anticipated. They were professional.
