Company was very responsive. I called in the late afternoon and they asked if they needed to come out the same day (was it an emergency). It wasn't - so I had them come the following day. They showed up at the appointed time, and was in and out within an hour. Was very happy with their work.
Description of Work: Fixed a leak in a pipe that connected the toilet to the wall. Also, fixed another toilet that required holding down the handle (longer than usual) before it would flush appropriately.

James called me to make sure I was available for him to meet me. He came over, was extremely polite and professional, and explained to me what he thought the problem was. He also explained to me about my hot water heater, the age of it, and the fact that soon I may need to replace it. Since I am a new homeowner, and not really sure of home repair issues, I felt 100% comfortable with him and trusted what he told me was in fact, correct. I would definitely use Power again and I would probably ask for James as I feel comfortable with him and trust him with my repairs.

Pipes completely frozen in my cellar, thus nothing working inside, temp below zero, called them 10 am, they were very professional, friendly, etc. Got price quote for hourly rate and told that after 3:30pm it's time and a half and then told they'd call me back but didn't give a time frame, and didn't say it would most likely would have been much later(I could have gone into work for a while). Called back once to let them know that some thaw had occurred upstairs and I would most likely only need one person instead of 2, which we had discussed, it was then I was informed an additional $75 would be added for use of thawing machine. Then lectured somewhat by the owner when I asked where I was in the queue. I did not appreciate that, I thought it was a simple question. I had chosen this place because of price originally, now stuck paying that extra $75 after telling another plumber I was using Power since they had literally gotten back to me four minutes sooner(I had gotten 2 estimates/rate quotes). Finally heard back at 3:40pm that someone was on his way..."on his way now" she said and this place is not far from me...but he didn't arrive until 45 minutes later(argh)! He was "stuck in traffic". Whatever. Lewis was very cool though, did a good job, knows his stuff, but considering that all he did was thaw my pipes using a machine that works rather quickly(there was a slight leak but he suggested he fix that during straight time instead of then), and fix my toilet and then tinker with a few things, ultimately removing a screen out of my kitchen faucet, I really feel that this was way too expensive for the end result which was I needed them back to fix the leak he identified when the thaw was completed. Also, keep in mind these little invoicing/billing polices in place make a big difference in the bottom line, in their favor...every time. I remember this happened last time I used them too and had forgotten until he started writing up the invoice. They don't stop the clock until they are done filling out your invoice, so you actually pay for THAT time...and there is no incremental billing either. So at $187.50 hour for one guy, even if they go over each incremental hour filling out paperwork you pay for a full hour. Also, when you are paying a plumber a high rate like that you expect that whatever equipment he uses to get the job done would be included, but it's not. Parts are one thing, but a rod, or a thawing machine? Come on. I think it's rude to milk people like that when you know they are in need. Think about it, he replaced one toilet valve, which was ten minutes of labor and some thawing and tinkering and I just spent $600. I even had to go buy the toilet valve while he was there. But Hey, If you think that sounds like a good price, then these guys are great! The work is quality, I will say that. Plus they did give me the Angie's List discount, so that's something...So how come I feel so broke?
Description of Work: Thawed hot and cold water lines in basement, cleared out some sediment in kitchen sink faucet, replaced fill valve in toilet(which I went to purchase myself at his request since he didn't have one on the truck). All minor repairs. I put NO to using them again, but actually it's MAYBE. Depends on how desperate I am, because they do quality work, it's just the billing policy makes it a little more expensive than it should be. This is a common thread in all of the reviews for a reason.

Louis is the man! He was on time; unfortunately, he didn't bring enough pipe, as I underestimated how much pipe it would take to do it correctly. He left to go to a supply store to purchase the right amount of pipe; worked for about a couple of hours, and produced a very clean install that is hardly noticeable, and most importantly, doesn't leak gas! Louis set aside the old copper pipe for disposal, and cleaned up after himself. Very professional. I was very happy with the work - would hire these guys again. I was also happy that I got the job done in one of the busiest days - the day after New Year's.
Description of Work: We had a leak in the pipe that brings natural gas to our gas dryer in the basement. The previous installation used copper pipe, which was more flexible, but doesn't provide a good seal when connected to the connector for the gas dryer. The gas company came previously and shut off the gas supply to the gas dryer, and recommended that a plumber provide a new set of pipes to supply gas to the gas dryer.

Louis came on time and went over with me what I wanted to do. I had previously had the same work done, but the first plumbers cut corners and did not really fix the problem. Old pipes and fittings needed to be removed and replaced, all requiring weird, custom fits in a cramped space that was jackhammered out of concrete. The tub I purchased did not fit the hardware provided, but Louis worked with me and helped me find a place to get parts that fit. He avoided ripping out what didn't need replacing and scheduled the second visit around my time frame. He gave me excellent advice on how to get the tiling in around the tub. He also put up with the slow security guys and annoying rules in my building, which is down town and hard to get to. This kind of work is never cheap, but I give Lois an A for fairness and helpfulness. I'd hire him again, and I recommend Power Plumbing.

I was trying to keep the price down so I told them this was not an emergency. From talking to the plumber it would have been over $400 just for the service call if it was an emergency. The plumber came out and said that he would have to cut out the wood siding in order to get to the pipes. I said why don't you just cut the pipes a foot away from the wall but still underneath the sink, then he said "OH YEAH WE COULD DO THAT". The charge was $100 an hour which he said is the contractor rate instead of the normal $145/hr. So I was charged $100 for coming out and telling me what he was going to do (in other words doing nothing). Then $400 for 4 hours and $100 for parts (2 2' pieces of copper with 2 90 degree turns). Maybe it s me, but this is the first time that I used a contractor plumber instead of the neighbor plumbers. My dad pays his plumber $10/hour and in hindsight it would have been better to fly him up from Florida. This was a very small plumbing project in which I did the prep work of cutting the holes and $600 to me is an outrageous cost but maybe that is what people pay. This experience has really spoiled me using Angie s List for things like plumbers and electricians because I can't afford the prices.
Description of Work: Kitchen hot and cold pipes in kitchen froze. The company cut the two pipes and sweat the two 24" of pipe about a foot further from the wall. A very easy non complicated job. I cut the holes in the floor to save money and he did not even need to install any shut off valves.

I called Power Plumbing, in a panic, and the answering service had the "on call" plumber call me immediately. He was very professional, but informed me that he was busy on other calls and probably wouldn't be able to make it to my house until 3:30, which would put him into double-time pay. At a two hour minimum(he informed me that the job would take him at least two hours anyway, minimum or no, with the help of another plumber)the fee would start at $920. He was fine with me trying to find someone who could come out sooner, but he assured me that his rates were union rates and would be comparable, if not lower than, other plumbers. I wound up getting another plumber to come, 3 hours sooner, who took 45 minutes to completely solve the problem, on his own, and only charged me $300(with the Angie's List discount).
Description of Work: On a Saturday morning, our laundry sink and drain in the basement were backed up. The drain spewed sewage onto the basement floor. It turned out that we needed our sewer pipe rodded.

Called company at 9am on Saturday and was directed to answering service. Call was for purposes of routing out main sewer line to street and removal of debris from overflowing catch basin following substantial thaw of snow and considerable rains. Rec'd call back approx 20 min later from "Mike" on his cell who told me that he was at another call and that I was #2 on his list...would see him about 2 hours...left my name and phone number with him. Asked him if they had fiber optic camera avail to run down the line to see if any serious issues and was told that he did not have but would call me back with prices for proposed work. Did not hear back so called his cell 2 hours later. Was told that I would see them around 1pm...I provided name and address once again...4:30pm rolls around without any call or show so I placed another call. "Mike" did not remember me or my problem. He told me that due to time of day(late Saturday)I would be paying "double time"($200 per hour/per man)w/ 2 hour minimum per guy...he called it an even 1,000 after the rout. Given severity of issue I told them to come to which he said would be in 1.5 hours and that they now had a fiber optic camera as it was returned to the shop. They showed up at 7pm and worked until 8:30pm. The area of the sewer access was very wet and muddy so they spent 30 min. cleaning their equipment and themselves to round out 2 hours at property. The final bill was for $1,300+ as the hour clock starts ticking once they pick up the trucks and head toward the property. I was told that they were coming from O'Hare area and I only live 15 miles but apparently it took them an hour to get to the property. Both workers were named Mike and to their credit they were both professional and thorough in their work and description. They were competent and answered my questions. My biggest issue is that I felt as though I was taken advantage of given the circumstances. While I would use this company again given thorough job that they did, they might not be my first call given cost.

Powers is a very professional and experienced plumbing group. They were responsive, quick, efficient, and knew the ins and outs of a vintage building and its water supply. Rather than just doing the bare minimum, they did the ideal repair so that the leak issue will never happen again--something I really appreciate. Leaks are always bad, but they were very helpful.
Description of Work: Our 4 month old Kitchen Aid ice machine failed, and when we pulled the leaking unit away from under the counter, we saw that a shut off at the end of the water pipe also was leaking a bit ($2.00 plastic seal, of course). Powers does not repair appliances--we took care of calling scheduling this repair separately. However, they promptly scheduled and repaired the faulty valve. This required turning off the water to our section of the building and was a bit of a process, but the Powers plumber was great--he knows how to work in vintage buildings. The offending section was cut out, and a new shut off valve installed, as well as a better connection to the ice machine that was safer. Took about 3 hours all together due to building water on/off issues. Very good technician--efficient and quick.

We noticed the problem late on a Friday night. Our tenant's tub and sink were draining very sloooowwwwwlyy - we could determine where the blockage was. We called Power, left a message and Gus called us back. We would have preferred to have it scheduled first thing the Saturday morning, but understood that the plumber might have other calls, and so we scheduled the service call for the next day between 10 and 1. The next morning, Gus surprised us by calling early and saying that he could come by right away, which was great. He was on site shortly after that. He understood the problem and had the blockage cleared within 15-20 minutes. He had some advice for us going forward with respect to our old pipes, and gave us the invoice, which we gladly paid.

Our experience was good. James showed up and took a look at my ceiling and then was off to my neighbors to start investigating. He was able to find the leak and get it fixed. It took about 2 hours. James was friendly and knowledgeable. It was great that they were able to come out on a Saturday and they didn't charge extra for the Saturday service call. The only downside is that when I originally called for my appointment they gave me a huge window of time that they might show up from 7:30am - 12pm. I think they could have done a better job estimating what time he would show up.

My kitchen sink clogged a few days before Thanksgiving. I called Power Plumbing and made an appointment for after Thanksgiving. However, the next morning they called and said they had a canceled appointment and a plumber could stop by in a few minutes. He promptly arrived ten minutes later and proceeded to clear the drain within minutes. He showed me how to disconnect the garbage disposal for future reference so that I could retrieve any item that was stuck in the drain. He went through the entire process step-by-step and showed me exactly what needed to be done. When I informed him that I had just recently moved in and did not have the wrench that was needed to disconnect the disposal, he gave me his and offered advice on what should and should not go into the garbage disposal. I was impressed with how helpful he was! My entire experience was excellent and I will definitely use Power Plumbing in the future.

I contacted Power Plumbing a few days before the repair was done. To be honest, the degree of courtesy and professionalism on the phone caught me off guard. They were extremely patient and professional in discussing the problem and talking about options to solve it. I scheduled the visit for a Tuesday. On Monday, they called to indicate that their schedule had changed and that they would be a little later than the time we agreed to. It was great to be given that notice well in advance so that I could plan my day. Gus arrived at the house just before I did, and he also was very friendly and courteous. We took a look at the spigot and he explained what he thought the best course of action was, including the size and type of part he would replace it with. After shutting off the water main, he went back out to his truck get his tools and replace the spigot. By the time I had unpacked my briefcase and started to get settled, he was back at the door letting me know that he was done. He showed me what he replaced and gave me a few more pointers for not creating similar problems in the future. All around a great experience with this company.

Called around 9am. I was told that grease traps are no longer city coded so I opted to have it removed completely. They were booked and it wasn't an emergency, so I was put on the tentative list. If no one was able to make it that day, they would schedule me a firm appointment for the next day. I received a call an hour later from one of their plumbers, Louis, who was already outside my building. He removed the grease trap, replaced all the plumbing under the sink, and replaced one of the drains that was rotted out. Very nice guy and he did very good work. There was an issue with billing, but it was quickly taken care of with a single phone call to the office.

They put a camera in my lines and they rotted out a lot of roots. They were very easy to talk to on the phone. They were very responsive and easy to get to come out. They came on time. after having paid them for a lot of hours they determined that they could not see the bath room so I could not use the master bathroom. They said it was like 6000 dollars. I called another plumber he figured out the problem was different from what they said. who unblocked the line so it was fixed and it was only 500 dollars.
Description of Work: They came out and fixed my washing machine and they examined the lines.
