Mike B. from Power Plumbing arrived at my house within the designated time frame. He investigated the problem by checking the main floor bathroom, and then he went into the basement to further explore the leak. He quickly diagnosed the problem, and started to work on the problem. He found that he had to pull up the toilet and replace the seal. He placed a tarp on the floor to protect the tile from water spillage and /or sediment from the toilet . He used a dryer to dry the area around the toilet to enhance a good seal. He replaced the flushing devices within the tank. He went into the basement several times to check for leaks after he finished his repair. He thoroughly cleaned his work areas after he completed his work. He also checked a toilet upstairs and found that he had to replace the flushing devices within that bathroom. Mike was a pleasure to work with. He explained what was causing the problem in the bathrooms. He also explained what repairs were needed on both toilets. He was very pleasant, knowledgeable, and patient. He offered detailed answers to my questions. He was very considerate about keeping a clean area and cleaning up after his work. I have an unfinished basement, so he made sure that he took off his shoe protectors before going into the basement (so as not to track concrete dust when he came back upstairs). He replaced his shoe protectors each time he entered the main floor and upstairs areas. I appreciated this. He was very professional and easy to work with. I was very satisfied with the outcome. I haven't had any leaks since he left. I also had a very positive experience when I initially called the company. All of the people I talked with over the phone were very knowledgeable and helpful. They even applied a discount because of my Angie's List membership! I really enjoyed working with this company, and I will definitely use them again!!
Description of Work: A leak in the basement was noticed coming from the area of the upstairs bathroom. Power Plumbing & Sewer investigated the problem. The toilet was removed in the main floor bathroom and the seal underneath was replaced. The plumber cleaned and dried the area before replacing the seal. He also replaced the fill valve, tube flapper, and rings on this toilet and another upstairs toilet.

On time for the estimate and the work. Prompt response to phone calls. All people I contacted there were always polite. The person who showed up to do the work was very competent. There was a cast iron pipe with a vertical crack from the basement floor to the first floor kitchen sink. He replaced this pipe and discovered that the pipe to the second floor kitchen sink was also cracked. He had time to fix that too (for an additional fee which was reasonable). I was relieved that everything could be repaired in one day. His work was clean and the kitchens where he worked were clean when he left. He was very polite and a competent communicator. Very Professional. I will use Power Plumbing in the future because of their no-hassle, honest competence - especially when I compare them to other plumbers I have used. What a relief!!!

The emergency on call technician, John, walked me through a procedure to stop my toilet from continuously flushing and saved my Sunday morning from an expensive weekend house call! From the time I called Power Plumbing and spoke to the on call service until John called was just minutes. John was professional and his knowledge and patience was much appreciated!

The faucet assembly was not originally installed correctly (by someone else) and the cold water in the tub would not shut off. I called Power Plumbing on an emergency basis, and they couldn't possibly have been more helpful or professional. They came immediately and fixed the problem effectively. They were polite and professional. The plumber they sent explained everything to me that he was doing. It was very expensive, but they were responding on a moment's notice.

Disappointment with pricing. I would not use Powers again.
Description of Work: I was not happy with the cost of hourly labor rate and being charged the full labor rate while the plumber traveled 2.5 hours to retrieve a part at Powers' shop. I had provided specific details of the problem before the call-out and don't feel it was appropriate to be charged full rate for the plumbers' travel time. The plumber arrived on time which was appreciated. However, the cost of the repair is excessive. I own a union company and understand worker comp rates, 941 payroll, etc. and union rates. The manager at Powers said $135/hour is standard for union plumbers but I find that to be excessive. Additionally, we asked that the hot/cold line be switched on one sink and the plumber didn't have a long enough flex hose in his truck. That should be a standard item for inventory. I was not pleased that my bill was over $500.00 for work that was actually done in less than 2 hours.

I had a leaky toilet which also rocked that was just getting worse and worse. I called Power and they were able to send someone out at the time and date that worked for me (early Friday morning). The office called about 15 minutes before the plumber arrived, as they promised they would. I was not sure if I should repair or replace the toilet and John (the plumber) gave me really great advice. I decided to get a new one so I then called the office and asked for them to send John back on Monday as I would buy a toilet over the weekend. John gave me all the relevant measurements which was critical as the condo is vintage and nothing is plumb. The office was available to accommodate my request for Monday. John arrived on late Monday afternoon and called ahead. I'm sure we were his last appointment of the day as he ended up finishing up in the early evening but the work was not rushed nor was he impatient with our kooky questions. He cleaned as he went, and left the bathroom very clean. He even cleaned the tile under where the toilet would sit after he chipped up all of the old caulk. I could really not be more pleased with John as a professional. He was courteous and informative, he really knew his stuff and he had excellent people skills. I absolutely recommend him and Power highly and he will be my go-to guy for all my future plumbing needs.
Description of Work: Install new toilet and remove old one. Answered our many non-relevant questions about water pressure in a vintage building, kitchen sink replacement, bathtub tap replacement, my partner's question about his posi-temp faucet in his vintage condo building

They were our upstairs neighbor's recommendation. The guy who came out was prompt and very honest. We just had him do the quote because we had a bunch of water in the basement and when he pulled up the sewer check, he found that the sump pump wasn't working. He had one in the truck and he said he could do it for us that day. He gave us a price that was super competitive.

Excellent service and friendly! Came in and looked under the sink and took the garbage disposal I bought at Home Depot and installed it rather quickly and still had some time left for him to check a few other items on the new rehabbed house we bought. He did not have extra time to repair a few other items, but i am calling him back and have him come back to fix the small issues. Very knowledgeable and answered all my questions and gave us a few suggestions.

It was great. They were upfront, honest and forthright.
Description of Work: So the garbage disposal wasn't working, and it kept shorting out when I flipped it on. I checked with a flashlight but didn't see anything. I knew by having them out it would cost a minimum of $150. But it was a Saturday, and I needed their help. Well, John came out and he was great. He found a small screw in the disposal which was jamming it, which took just a few minutes to fix. So, he asked about any other problems we might be having, and I walked him through our smaller plumbing issues. He cleaned out all our upstairs drains, explained how we could save money by using pellets to stunt the roots in our sewer and delay yearly. Love them.

I had a roof leak that required immediate attention. My roofer came out and did a great job. He told me that I needed a new roof drain and that it was the source of the leak. I called a round a few places, slightly frantic, because I was afraid snow would arrive and cover the flat roof surface. I spoke to Rae at Power. She was very helpful and sympathetic. She said she would get someone out fast. She did. Within a week my roof was repaired and ready to face the rest of winter. Power did a great job.

I called Power Plumbing and the phone was answered by a friendly, professional person who helped me make an appointment for the next day. She gave me a range of 7:30 AM until Noon when the plumber would show up at my condo. She called to let me know that the plumber was on his way and he showed up about 10 minutes later. Mike B. was very pleasant, professional, and got right to work after hearing my brief description of what I saw and my concerns. He diagnosed the problem almost immediately. He explained and showed it to me so that I understood what was happening. In fact, while he ran down to his truck to get a few parts, I was able to have my neighbor come upstairs and explained the issue to her so that she would know that the issue was all about two leaks in my toilet and not in any shared plumbing in the walls. Mike worked for a couple of hours until he made the repairs. He took an extra step of "pulling" the toilet, after explaining to me what he was doing and why it was a good idea, just to be thorough. He cleaned up the area, leaving it better than he found it, gave me a clearly written, itemized invoice, and went on his way. While I hope I don't need a plumber any time soon, I will call this company righ away if I do!
Description of Work: I had noticed that the tile behind the toilet in my half bath looked like it was somewhat disrupted and there was a paint and drywall bubble to the left of the toilet. Before I was able to check with my downstairs neighbors to see if they were seeing any signs of trouble in their half bath (immediately below mine), they called to say that there was a crack in their ceiling and a slow, steady drip coming from the crack. It seemed to both of us that the "evidence" that we were seeing had developed over the last week. Time to call a plumber!

When I called at 7:30 am and explained the situation, I was treated courteously by the office staff and given an appointment immediately. The plumber assigned to my call, called me and re-affirmed the appointment time, then added that they would be out between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm and would call 1/2 hour before arrival, to make certain that I would be here, as well as the woman downstairs. I notified the party downstairs and I did receive the call that the plumber was on the way, 1/2 hour before he arrived. Mike B. arrived promptly and went right to work, carefully examining not only my bathroom above the one below, but I had him also examine the second one, which was not above the one below. He carefully inspected both bathrooms and reported that he could not find any leaks in the toilets, sinks or bathtubs or the visible pipes and drains, nor sign of leaks in the walls or ceilings, in either bathroom. He then went downstairs and carefully examined both bathrooms downstairs, including the walls and ceilings. He reported that no water could be seen on her bathroom ceilings. Though the reported ceiling in the first bathroom, did have cracked paint , the cracks were dry underneath the paint. There was no water in the light fixtures in her bathroom or mine, and there were no signs of water leaks on either floor. He did not detect a foul smell. He found slight movement of a few tiles in both showers and in exactly the same place, on both floors. However, he found no evidence that water was leaking from those places. He did recommend that they be fixed in the near future, however. He took much time to explain his analysis to me, which was that the cracks are undoubtedly due to use of the wrong paint on the cement ceilings, which is also a problem in my unit. He strongly believed that if the paint used was the correct kind to cover cement surfaces and was properly applied, the problems would not exist. Mike also took the time to speak by phone, with the woman who lives downstairs, as she could not be home during the inspection. He explained everything to her, but felt that it was difficult, because there was a language barrier and that she perhaps did not understand all of what he was saying. She said to him that she had seen dripping water on the ceiling at times, but he said that he saw no evidence of that and he only saw the cracks. He recommended to her, and asked that I further suggest to her, that if she sees dripping water in the future, that she immediately come down to get me or the maintenance man , so one of us can observe and report it to him immediately. I learned that if cracks form, from using the wrong paint on the cement ceiling, steam will worsen them, make them larger and cause more of them. Mike recommended that both of us leave our bathroom doors open while showering or bathing, because electric exhaust fans likely would NOT be useful in our building, to remove steam build-up during showers. Because of the age of our building, any electric fans would simply exhaust the steam into the walls, which would then cause mold to form and that would cause another, larger problem. He stressed that the only other measures that could be taken for diagnosis of the problem, would be to drill holes in the ceilings and walls and run mini-cameras through to view the insides of those areas. This is a very costly procedure and in his professional opinion, would not yield anymore useful information so he could not, in good conscience, recommend that the procedure be performed. Before he left, I asked Mike to replace two shower heads in my bathrooms while he was there and he readily agreed. He quickly finished those jobs, before he left. I was impressed by his readiness to entertain all questions and his thoughtful, careful answers. I believe that I could not have had a more cheerful, professional and careful worker for the fee charged and that, I found, was quite reasonable. I will definitely call Power Plumbing for any plumbing needs I have in the future.
Description of Work: At 9:30 pm last night, I received a complaint from the woman who owns the condo directly under mine. She said that she wanted to have the ceiling in her bathroom painted, because the paint was cracked. The painter advised her to have the cracks in the paint on the ceiling examined and evaluated to rule out a problem with water that might be leaking from my unit above. She also reported a foul smell in the same bathroom. I told her that I would hire a plumber to come in and examine both units early the next day, which I did. I hired 'Power Plumbing' upon the recommendation of the Condo Board president in our building. I knew that that this company had done a great deal of work in the building, was familiar with the building's plumbing, pipes, etc., and also knew how to function within the building with elevators, parking, etc. I also checked on Angie's List for rating and found that the company was very highly rated by just under 300 customers and had an overall rating of A+, so I had no qualms about calling them.

Very well. James has been to our house several times, and he's part detective and part plumber. He's a real professional and is happy to show us what he finds and help us understand the problem.
Description of Work: Problem with hot water temp and pressure in kitchen sink faucet. James came and quickly discovered that we had a broken shut-off valve, and that the rubber seal from that valve had blown into the hose, partially blocking the hot water. He replaced the valve, flushed the hose, and had everything back to new in 45 minutes.

Power Plumbing called me back shortly after I contacted them, and had a representative at my home the next day to perform an estimate, when at least two other contractors didn't even return my message. Their price was slightly under other estimates. I was pressed for time, leaving town in a few days. They scheduled the job quickly, and kept in touch about arrivals and timing. On the day of the work, two workmen arrived on schedule. Both were friendly and professional. They did the work exactly as promised, leaving my floor drain in better condition than it was before the damage, in only a few hours including a trip to pick up additional supplies. My only complaint is that the masonry work around the replaced drain is a little bit sloppy at the edges where it meets up with the existing concrete, but in my rough basement that's a minor quibble.
Description of Work: Power Plumbing removed a collapsed drain pipe in my basement, then replaced the pipe, the floor drain, and connections to household plumbing, and applied fresh concrete to patch the hole.

Mike did the job. He was neat & tidy & very friendly & helpful. A very important aspect of his personality - I am a woman, and he did not condescend to me. I am the one who handles most of the mechanical jobs in the house, so I appreciated that he listened to me when I described the problems, and did not "talk down" to me. He treated me with respect. 1. He pulled a piece of one of my stainless jewelry cleaning beads out of the disposal - worked perfectly after that, and he advised us to throw ice down the drain to clean it every once & awhile. 2. He placed the gasket back into the faucet & it worked perfectly. 3. The spiget was definitely corroded, so he replaced the pipe which ran from inside out. He also replaced the inside lever & outside spiget. 4. He replaced the master bath flusher. The toilet, however, began making gasping noises every 10 minutes. When Mike returned for #5, he replaced the flapper. 5. The shaver part was dislodged from the stopper, but in the process, 2 vertical twines in the stopper were bent. We noticed them upon closer inspection immediately after Mike left. My husband is a designer, so he ordered a new stopper assembly from Kohler, & contacted Power to let them know it was in. Mike returned to replace the stopper at no charge. He reimbursed us for the assembly as well. We would definitely use Power again. Our only surprise was the cost of the job. Our former plumber's hourly rate is $95/hr. as opposed to Power's $135/hr. (which includes the Angie's list 10% discount), so he would have charged much less to do the above, but then, there is a reason we decided to find a new plumber.
Description of Work: We had 5 "problems": 1. Our basement sink garbage disposal was jambed, & would not turn on. 2. I had cleaned the screen in the sink faucet & could not get the rubber gasket back in so water was squirting out at an angle. 3. The outside water spiget continually leaked. From the inside, the pipe & knob were pretty corroded. 4. The master bath toilet ran an awfully long time. 5. My husband had dropped a part from his electric shaver into the mast bath stopper & could not retrieve it. It was wedged between the stopper & the housing.

We had a broken water heater, and before the call to Power Plumbing we'd had another company (can't recall whom) miss TWO appointments and then never return a call. As a result, we'd been without hot water for 5 days. Rae sensed the urgency of our situation and instead of taking the order, she referred me to another company that she KNEW could fix the issue TODAY. Rae's first concern was our well-being, and because she had a sliver of doubt that her company could get the job done immediately (scheduling/parts etc), she instead pointed me to someone who she knew could get it done immediately. This type of honesty/concern assures she'll get my next call for anything pluming/sewer. Thank you Rae.
