+ -1 moreservice personnel were professional, and informative. two arrived on time. not sure i needed two because only one ran the camera, but two came and i paid 150 dollars per hour (135 per hour after discount) for 1 1/2 hours for each ( total of three hours). ran camera thru pipe out to street and it looked alright except for one small spot that had grease buildup. they recommended jet rodding, a device they did not bring with them. they also fixed flow to outdoor sill c*** that i had problems with for years. im very thankful for this. fortunately, the toilet broke when they were here. the plug at the bottom of the tank disengaged from the handle and they replaced the plug. unfortunately, the new plug doesnt always seal the bottom when you pull the handle. when they were here we talked about an automatic shut off valve for the water in case of water leak. they said someone would call about that and to set up an appointment for the jet rodding. they never called. im happy about that. the pipe did not seem to me to be in need of this service right away and im not sure i want auto shut off yet either. i did not notify company about toilet. dont want another service call at this time.
Description of Work: put camera thru pipe out to village sewer line. fixed toilet. fixed flow to outdoor sill c*** for sprinkler.

+ -1 moreWithin minutes, John with Power Plumbing called me back, diagnosed the problem over the phone after having me run through a few simple tests. (Turns out the running water is my neighbor's). John was calm, helpful and unbelievably friendly. As a hysterical homeowner who knows nothing about home repair and panics at the mere mention of something going wrong, this went a long way towards calming me down. Because it was after hours, I had to pay a premium rate to have John come over and fix the problem. and had to guarantee a two hour minimum. Since I had the minimum, I also had him tackle a leaky kitchen sink and garbage disposal, as well as replace the leaky seal on my master bathroom toilet. He diagnosed that I did have a potential small leak, repaired it quickly, cleanly and without fuss. He explained the work he was doing, gave me tips on how to avoid future problems, showed me the parts he was putting in and was knowledgeable, helpful, and had great customer service. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Power Plumbing to anyone looking for a plumber on the North Side.
Description of Work: I live in the second floor of a three unit condo building in Lincoln Park. I woke this morning to an e-mail from my neighbor asking if I heard water running. I did, and it sounded as if it was coming from behind my toilet and running through the wall. I'd contacted Roto Rooter initially, and while they scheduled an appointment between 6 and 8 pm, they contacted me at 7:45 to tell me they weren't honoring the appoint. Concerned about this noise persisting and the risk of flooding either my unit or my neighbor's, I called around and found Power Plumbing.

Description of Work: My complaint is with both workmanship and the follow up. In 2009, I had a leak in the house that turned out to be a major problem, so we pretty much had Power Plumbing replace all the pipes from the upstairs drains to downstairs pipes. The plumber had to cut through the walls in the garage to fix the pipes. I was satisfied with the work, as I thought the problem is resolved for good. It's been three years since the repair. I noticed a leak around where Power plumber replaced the pipes, so I first called the company to see what it can do. I got a run around. First, it could not locate the work, even though I had the paperwork from the job and I told the gentleman on the phone everything he asked me. He asked who the plumber was, and I gave the plumber's name. He said he will look into it and give me a call back (this was Wednesday). I thought that's fair, he needs to investigate the matter on his end. He didn't call back yet on the day after (Thursday), so I called the company again. I got a lady this time, same conversation, but this time she requested the paperwork faxed over. So I faxed the copies to the company on Friday. No call back. I left my name and phone number, which matched the ones listed on the invoice. I was wanting to know what the follow up procedure is. I don't expect the full refund or anything like that, but perhaps a discount since I expect the major repair to last more than 3 years. Plus, now I have to re-replace the drywalls that I had fixed last time. But I couldn't discuss anything with the company, because no one called back. I am a little bewildered because the response and the professionalism reflected Angie's List's Super Service Award at the time of service back then. It feels almost as if the company is under a new ownership.

The dishwasher in my kitchen was overflowing and dripping water through to the neighbor below me due to a clogged drain. They were able to send out a plumber within 3 hours of my initial call. The plumber, John Murzy, was very professional and successfully addressed all the issues in a timely manner. He also informed me that one of my toilets was on recall, told me how to obtain necessary repair parts for the recalled toilet, took a look at my water heater, and called in for an estimate on a replacement water heater. I feel that John went above and beyond the job. I plan on using this company again when I replace the water heater and I would certainly recommend them to family and friends. What a great experience!
Description of Work: The dishwasher was overflowing due to a clogged drain. The company was called at around 10 am and arrived around 1 pm the same day. The plumber was able to unclog the drain with several snake attempts. The job was successfully completed within 1.5 hours and the area was very clean afterwards.

Description of Work: A company representative came out to assess the scope of the plumbing work to increase water pressure to a second floor shower. We received an estimate of $3,500. My husband priced the parts for the work, and concluded that the company was charging a ridiculous amount for labor, in excess of $300 per hour. He spoke with the salesman in an attempt to negotiate the proposed charge, but the company would not negotiate and would not respond to the price list my husband located for the parts to repair the plubming problem. The parts were probably 10% of the cost and the remainder was labor. Needless to say we did not hire this company.

That was pretty darn accommodating and we really appreciated that. He provided some very good advice for choosing a new faucet and steered me away from a very pricy faucet that he said was not reliable.

Rae Lynn called back around 8:30 to confirm the availability of a replacement unit and technicians to install. Mike and Bob showed up around 10:45 and promptly went to work. After installing the water heater they noticed more leaking under the baseboard. Well a copper pipe connection, in the wall, had worn through and so a section of pipe and a few couplings had to be replaced. They took care of this in the matter of completing the job. My highest compliments go to Mike and Bob and certainly to Power Plumbing!

+ -1 moreJohn was great. He came out initially due to a leak from the unit above mine. He first rodded the pipe in my neighbors unit so that the clog disappeared and the leak stopped. While he was here I had him remount my kitchen sink, re-pipe the pipes under that same sink and do some minor repairs on the toilets that have been nagging at me for the past few years. Is Power expensive? Yes, but plumbers in general are more expensive than most trades. And to be fair, I didn't have the work bid on by other plumbers, so I can't say with certainty how much another company would have charged. The best thing I can say is that I would not hesitate to use Power and specifically John again. He was polite, professional, and explained things to me so that I could understand what needed to be done and why. What more could you ask for?
Description of Work: Had our under-mount sink remounted. Had the piping under our kitchen sink re-piped to fit code and better functionality. Had several issues with the toilets in the house fixed. Had a neighbors HVAC run off pipe which was clogged and dripping down into my unit, rodded and unclogged.

+ 0 moreThis is a quality company. All work was done to specification and within the scheduled time. Workmen arrived on time and were quite professional. During the second visit, our ejector pit had to be opened and the old pump removed. Then, a duplicator pump system was installed. The installer was meticulous about putting down thick plastic drape and ensuring that what could have been a very smelly and messy job was done in a tidy manner. We will use this company again should we need similar work.
Description of Work: Sewer camera and clean out. Subsequently a "duplicator sump pump" system was installed.

Description of Work: I used Power plumbing once. They were good, but expensive. I tried to use them again and it went down hill. They were suppose to come and give me a bid. They were extremely late. they were suppose to meet with my contractor and didn't contact us until after they were suppose to be here. They took advantage of my time and when I received their bid, they were three times higher than the other companies. Do to their tardiness, excessive pricing and lack of follow up I will do longer use their services. I hate it when people take advantage of my time and don't have the respect to call and say they are running very late. It takes a few seconds to call!

+ -1 moreEstimate was the lowest of three companies. One company didn't bother to give an estimate and the other's estimate was over twice as high. Hot water pressure was virtually nil before the work because of rust buildup in the iron pipes. John and Charlie came on time and worked quickly--everything was done in a day and a half. They built a tee connection to enable my apartment to be the only unit with its water shut off instead of inconveniencing the entire building. Only problem was they forgot to turn a water heater switch back on so there was no hot water for the building overnight. They had to cut through walls and ceilings to get at the pipes, which was to be expected. Very satisfied with work done and I now have lots of hot water.
Description of Work: Replaced iron pipes with copper pipes in bathroom and kitchen. Replaced shower faucet.

+ 0 moreA fifteen year old water heater rusted through and burst. Dug through the web and Angie's List and I ended up calling Power Plumbing first thing the next morning. Had a list of a few other plumbers to call but after a quick Q&A about the job with Paul (?) over the phone, I appreciated his professional attitude and found the hourly / product pricing to be reasonable, so I just decided to schedule with them. Power was able to confirm an install for next day but said they'd do their best to get someone out that day... Received a call a couple hours later saying they could load a water heater and be over in 30 minutes. They arrived in 20, had the heaters exchanged in a few hours. Mike came in, took care of business, and the area looked cleaner than it was before he came. Mike was thorough in explaining the plumbing hookup, the new heater's functions, lighting pilot light, etc, and all looks great. From initial phone call to the finished job, these guys were total pros. Haven't needed a plumber at this location yet. Based on this job, these guys will be my first call.
