They are mostly done but there is a little more work that they will do in the spring. They were really easy to work with. If any issues came up they worked with me and fixed the issues. They took care of whatever needed to be done. I got a couple of estimates and their price was really good. I was happy with their work. I worked with one of the sons and he was really good to work with, which I really liked.
Description of Work: I used JC & Son Masonry because I did a one story addition and they did the brick work on the addition.

Greg was very quick to respond back to my quote request via email. He scheduled an appointment with him and his brother Jake to come out to my home. They were very thorough in explaining the work necessary. The issue for this work is that it was already November and getting late to still do masonry work. While they were in the middle of our quote price range for this project, JC and Son was able to fit us into their schedule, they were a little easier masonry company to work with, which was a positive and I was comfortable with the previous reviews of their work on Angie's list. They were able to finish the job in its entirety in one day and completely clean up the job site. Jake did also take the time to come back out to inspect his company's work.
Description of Work: JC and Son Masonry restored, replaced and tuck pointed approximately a 13 foot wide by 14 foot high brick wall area at the back of our bungalow home. They also completely disassembled and rebuilt a 3 1/2 foot wide by 4 foot tall corner area of the same wall.

They were very responsive and did a very good job on the whole project. They found the special weather sealer we requested. They always did exactly what they promised they would do. They put tarps up on the part of the job that couldn't be finished this year to protect it from the weather this winter until spring when they will finish that part. The whole area was cleaned up when they were through. They were professional and we are pleased with the job they did. We would highly recommend them.

They were great. Greg called me back within 24 hours of my call and they came out for the estimate immediately and then emailed me the estimate within a day. They were very responsive and flexible as I was also replacing my gutters and putting in a flood control system so I needed all the scheduling coordinated. They arrived on time and were incredibly neat and efficient. They cleaned up all their debris and were very pleasnat. I would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: I had cracks in my masonry due to water erosion from gutters and downspouts. The house is >100 years and hadn't been tuckpointed in at least 20 years. They cleaned out and refilled the eroded areas and also fixed some cracks along the back of the house.

Greg was on time for our initial meeting and very professional. Took a look at areas that needed work and gave me an idea of what options I had. They took pictures of the areas and gave me a written estimate a few days after. When we decided on a date the whole crew was on time and the quality of work was good. The concrete slab they ground the cracks out of had to dry before caulking it. They made sure it was completely dry and had to come out about 3 more times after the initial work until it was ready for caulk. I like that they waited for it to dry and actually doing the job correctly. The only item of work that seems a bit rushed is the seam between the sidewalk and the building. The amount of caulk isn't consistent and looks a little light in some areas. Although, overall I'm happy with the work and price.
Description of Work: Restoration of balcony above front entrance: - Scraped/cleaned bottom of lintels/I beams and repaint with anti rust primer and oil based paint. - Grind out, tuck point cracks and holes in brick wall of balcony. - Grind out, tuck point concrete slab floor of balcony and caulk seams and cracks of balcony floor. Restoration of north side wall: - Remove existing layer of concrete patch from seam between sidewalk and masonry wall and caulk using Vulcan masonry caulk. - Restore NE corner by replacing deteriorated bricks with good condition common brick and tuck point area Restoration of two chimneys - Grind out and tuck point of upper, washed out portion of front south chimney - Grind out and tuck point of upper, washed out portion of back south chimney

I got Greg's name from Angies List. He was very responsive to my call and set up an appointment to give us an estimate. Within 2 days of getting the estimate, I was emailed the bid. After getting the building approval, I called and they were able to come out within a few days. Their crew came right on time and were able to finish up that day. The work matches the rest of the building perfectly. You can't even tell anything was done. These guys are professional and efficient. You will be very happy with their work.
Description of Work: Our 6 unit building had a large area where the tuck point had washed out. It was an area at the top of the building. That area and another by the corner of the roof needed to be tuckpointed.

Contractor provided competitive estimate for work and were very prompt in preparation of proposal. JC and Sons was the mid-price contractor of three bids obtained. We selected them because they were very confidant and professional when making suggestions and recommendation for work. The proposal was very straight forward and easy to understand what was being done and for what price. All my questions and concerns were answered immediately and nothing unexpected came up while they were performing work. Workers arrived on time and Greg or Jake were on site most of the time. We are very satisfied with the work and will use them to finish the project in the near future. We even recommended them to our neighbor who was impressed with the work and was looking for a masonry contractor.

I looked up three(3) masonry companies in Angie's List. Called the three and requested someone come out to give me an estimate. The first choice was a true professional, but the firm was more into restoration work, and they recommended grinding out all the joints and applying new mortar at a cost of $9500.00. My judgement was this was not necessary. The second choice took my name and number but no one ever came out. The third choice was JC and Sons Masonry. They came out, we did a walk around the house inspecting the walls. They pointed out the problem areas tjhat I had alreading identified myself. They quoted me a price for fixing the problems and also gave me a separate quote for replacing a glass block window. I felt the price was fair and gave them the job. They took photos of the areas that they had to work on for reference. They gave me a choice of getting a permit myself or they would apply for it, but at a cost. Yes-The City of Elmhurst,IL., requires a permit for this type of repair work. They told me they would do the work within ten days or sooner if they completed their current project ahead of schedule. I got the permit and in ten days they came to my house, did the work and cleaned up afterwards. I was extremely happy with the work and how well the repairs blended in with the old. Two pluses were they installed a new mail box I had just bought, and they gave me a 5% Angie's List discount. In conclusion I can honesty recommend JC and Sons Masonry.

We have a house that was built in 1958 and the mortar between the brick joints was falling apart in various places and the existing mortar looked weak and aged. I decided I needed to get the entire house reapoint/tuckpoint which involves grinding out the existing mortar, pressure washing the brick and tuckpointing. We also had several bricks that were damaged near the garage (about 10) that needed to be replaced. Since all this is not a minor job I had several firms provide me with an estimate and I wanted to get one more estimate before making a decision. I found J&C on Angie's List and decided to give them a call and Greg promptly returned my call. Greg and Jake came over and looked at the house and came in for a second time when I was available to ensure the estimate is accurate. He e-mailed me the estimate and I felt very comfortable with them in doing this job which I didn’t feel with other firms so I decided to hire them. After about two weeks the crew came, setup and started working. At end of each workday they promptly cleaned up the site. During the ongoing work any concerns and questions I had were promptly taken care of. Since this work is dependent on good weather the job lasted for about two weeks. In the end I could not be happier with the result and never looked back. My neighbor also had his chimney work done (grind existing mortar and tuckpoint) while the crew was at out house and another neighbor also requested a quote for his chimney.

Greg and his crew were great from start to finish. Got here when he said he would. Gave me a fair price. I gave them a B on cost, as the quote wasn't the lowest. The crew arrived on time at 9 AM, removed my old chimney down to the interior concrete, rebuilt the new one properly, cleaned up perfectly, and were finished by 3 PM. The workmanship was extremely good. Highly recommended!

The experience went extremely well. We have an 102 year old 2 flat. Their price was much better than other estimates we had; but we felt comfortable that this didn't mean inferior work based on the reports from other Angie's List members. They were prompt, hard-working, and didn't stand around socializing as have other contractors I have had in the past. Masonry work is extremely dirty and it looked like a construction zone during the day. However, when they left each day at 5, it was meticulously cleaned up. Our neighbors reported that they were also respectful of their property. The work looks fabulous and blends in well. It doesn't look like a repair. We would recommend them to anyone and will certainly use them again.

Company did work for our condo last summer/fall which we were happy with. About 2 months ago, I noticed a wet spot developing again under an area they worked on. I contacted Greg; he and Jake came out within a week on 3/19 when I requested to view the area. They promised to return in a couple of weeks once weather improved. Since they had a job change, they were able to come out today, 3/25, and fix the problem. First, it was great that Greg immediately thought of us when he had a cancellation. Second, he let me know the results of his team going out to the condo in a timely manner. Third, there was no extra charge for the fix they did today. Overall, very happy with this company and would recommend to others.

The estimators came promptly, took time to look over the problems, and gave me a thorough estimate so that I was sure the problem areas I'd identified would all be fixed. The workers were hardworking, polite, and cleaned up each day before leaving. They took care of little problems we hadn't even discussed (e.g., repairing stone steps), and were prompt and thorough in resolving issues that arose during the work. I really felt they went the extra mile to make sure I was satisfied, and to finish my job before the cold weather set in. I would definitely recommend them.

I wish everything in life was this simple. Jake & Greg showed up at appointed hour for estimate ( I like these guys already). After accepting their bid (middle ground of 5) they showed up at the scheduled date and time to start the work. Jake got the crew of 2 guys started after I covered the ground rules (no construction stuff in our trash, clean up in alley sewer NOT over our 100 year old drain), Job took 2 days, in which the ground rules were observed, (trash hauled off site by them, cleanup in alley) neighboors happy w/cleanliness and actual masonary bits done skillfully. I have had a ton of trades people work on various things over the years, this by far was the most painless repair I have encountered. Any future masonary needs I have these guys are my go-to providers. Highly recommended.

Hands down the best contractor I've ever used on Angie's List. Jake and Greg were very attentive to my repair job, making sure they understood what I was wanting to have done, identifying a couple of other trouble spots I hadn't noticed, explaining how they would go about doing the work, scheduling etc. They were reasonable and flexible in accommodating my schedule (and the rain schedule), retrieved the requisite permits from the city, secure a scaffolding canopy to protect people walking by on the sidewalk. After the work was completed, they sent a small crew to come out and clean off some masonry mud which had fallen on to a few of the front windows. Most of all they cared very much that I was happy with the work they had completed. This is a family business and they treat the customer like a king. Really guys, terrific job. I don't hope to have more work done soon, but when I do, you will be on the job.
