Chicago Appliance Service Co - Chicago Suburban

My oven portion of my stove was no longer heating and there was a strong gas smell. The stovetop still worked and it was in great condition otherwise. After several weeks of pricing out new stoves I finally joined Angie's list and researched all the reviews about nearby companies to repair this old stove. I chose Chicago Appliance Service Co based on the reviews. I called the service on a Saturday morning and got a call back within the hour. When Rich called back he said he was finishing up a job nearby and could be at my place by 3. He called again near 3 and said he would be by in half hour. He came right away then and immediately knew what the problem was and even had the part on his truck. My stove was then fixed in less than an hour. And no extra charge for a weekend call. Wow! I would definitely recommend this company and Rich was exceptional!

I originally left a message with a service and someone called me back in the first two days to set up an. Appointment. The first appointment, I got a call that the service representative couldn't make it at our scheduled time, so we rescheduled it for the next day. I was glad I got a call and could plan accordingly. The worker showed up at the scheduled time, did the work, and fixed the issue. I was extremely pleased with the work but my husband felt that it was a little on the expensive side. Overall, I was pleased with the work, will use them again, and would recommend them to others.

My first call to Chicago Appliance was on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend but communication throughout the day (both the call center and technician) was relatively fast and responsive. Mario was unable to locate the replacement part that day and had to return the following week; I think he would have come on that Saturday if parts had been in stock. Arranging the housecall was also prompt and easy. The service call itself was fine and the final diagnosis was that I needed a new oven because the control board had failed and was no longer being manufactured... ...except that with a little bit of Internet research, I found a Canadian website that sells refurbished and new replacement control boards for appliances, including my oven. Once I took the time to remove the control board (which I figured out how to do myself), it took less than a week to determine what specific part I needed, order it, receive it, and install it. The replacement part wasn't exactly cheap ($450), but it's far less than what I would have paid for an equivalent replacement oven (Thermador gas cooktop, electric oven, downdraft exhaust). It's understandable if Chicago Appliance and Service chooses not to source its replacement parts from very small operations like the website I found; I have no problem with them telling customers that in situations like mine, they aren't able to do anything further. But I can't rate them all that highly because they did not suggest that there are other alternatives to buying a new oven outright, if I was willing to take on the risk and effort myself. UPDATE 10/31/13: The Chicago Appliance owner, Al, called me to explain why they do not recommend third party sources for replacement parts and noted that this should have been communicated by the technician that came to evaluate my oven. Al promised a free future service call for the trouble.

I have been an Angie's List member for 3 years. This is the first time I hired someone from Angie's List. It has been 2½ weeks since Chi Chi came out and I am still seeing red! He came out, looked at the fridge and said "the compressor and fans are working. Nothing is wrong." and told my mother to put meat in my freezer to test it. Now, I was just up at 12 am emptying it all out because it was not working, so I told her NOT to put meat in. I had already lost alot of meat. The next day it was worse. Chi Chi said he was already home and could not come out but he would come out Friday. He came back out and again said nothing was wrong. When I left in the a.m. my fridge was at 45, and the freezer was about 40. SOMETHING was wrong! Then he went on to tell me that "people think 7 is the coldest setting and it is really 1. Your unit is set wrong. Put meat in it to test the freezer. The FREEZER controls everything, not the fridge. The fridge section is just a shell and does nothing." He also did tell me if it is the temperature control that is acting up the part is on back-order. THAT was the ONLY correct thing he told me. He re-set my freezer to "2", so when I got home my freezer was almost shut off. Luckily I only had water in it. The fridge was warm. When I looked in the fridge I saw CLEARLY PRINTED on the temperature control unit "7 is the coldest" the COMPLETE OPPOSITE of what Chi Chi told me. I was furious! I called immediately and said NOT to have Chi Chi call me ever again but someone needed to call. I came to a resolution with Ivan. He told me you cannot trust the hardeware store thermometers. I am fine with that HOWEVER, then Chi Chi should have tested the temperature with his own ACCURATE thermometer -which he NEVER did. I also located my manual which clearly says the REFRIGERATOR controls the entire unit - NOT the freezer as Chi Chi had said. I do not believe you can say something is working fine when the temperature is not correct, just because the compressor and fans are working. Ivan told me it is all Chi Chi does and he is very good. I think Chi Chi needs to go back to school for repair and reading lessons. I don't know how I did it, but I must have gotten listings mixed up because I would not have hired a company with 2 reviews and a 50/50 rating. I do have to say their trip charge is reasonable - GE's is higher. I also have to say Ivan was very patient with a VERY angry customer. Oh - Chi Chi had said he would call when he was on his way because it was a 3 hour window. Neither time he came to my house did he call in advance. Didn't really matter as someone was at my home waiting for him, but for some people it MAY matter. Also, calls were not returned in 10-15 minutes as stated by their answering service. Their repair time is listed to 8:15 p.m. but when Chi Chi was called on Thursday at about 6:30, he said he was home and could not come back out.

I woke up on a Monday morning to a fridge whose temperature was 47 degrees and a freezer at 33 degrees. Immediately came to Angie's List to look up appliance repair recommendations and found Chicago Appliance. I called at 7:00am that morning and talked to a live answering service who asked generally what the problem was and said someone would call me back within fifteen minutes. Sure enough, I got a call back from a gentleman from Chicago Appliance asking for details about the fridge issues. I described the problem to him and he said he would have the technician who would be coming out to address the problem call me momentarily and schedule the appointment. The technician did so and said he would be out before 9:00am. He arrived at about 8:30/8:40am and by 9:10am, I had a fully functioning fridge again. Going from initially discovering a broken fridge to having it fully functioning in just over 2 hours was rather amazing, I thought. I would definitely use these guys again.

I texted the company, using the number from their website that was stated for texts, on of all days, Labor Day. Yet, I received a call back later in the evening, maybe 3 hours after my initial text. "Al" told me that they did indeed work on Bosch appliances and that he would have a service repair person call me between 9 and 9:30 am the following day. And, I did. The service repair man asked me a few questions about the circumstances involved with the dishwasher not working. They included asking me if I had checked under the sink for either a plug or switch to see if they were properly set. When I did, I noticed that there was indeed a switch. And, it was positioned half way between off and on. When I moved it completely to the on position the dishwasher came on like there was never a problem at all. I know they could have come out, charged me their $79.00 service charge only to have done this themselves. But, the knowledge and integrity saved me that fee. And, I will think of them first whenever I have an appliance issue from this point forward.

Very professional repairman called me and setup a appointment for the next day, while every other company wasn't available until the following week. After inspecting the unit, he suggested that the repair was not worth it. The amount we would be spending on the unit would be equivalent to a new unit. Instead of trying to sell me on fixing the unit, he was very honest with me. I will definitely call them again and ask for the same guy.

Someone called us back within hours after our initial contact to set up a tentative appointment. The technician called back on the designated morning to confirm a time. He was punctual and quick. He gave us two possibilities for what was wrong and the prices (which were close) for each of them. In the end, his estimate was spot on (and the lower costing one of the two possibilities). He was done in under 30 minutes, personable and great to work with.

Sure enough, Rich solved my refrigerator via a phone call. He was very nice to have saved me unnecessary costs.

I called in with a problem with my gas dryer. The answering service was very polite and thorough and told me a technician would call back within 15 minutes. The technician called me back within 10 minutes and was able to troubleshoot my problem over the phone. I was very happy with the outcome and we ended up not needing a service call after all.

So far Chicago Appliance Service rates a C. I called about scheduling repair for a sub-zero under-the-counter refrigerator. I received a call back from the technician 20 minutes later, but he couldn't confirm whether they worked on under-the-counter models or not. He suggested he find out the information and call me back. I never received the follow-up cal. I'm willing to try again, but if they are not responsive this time, that will be it.

He replace the pump which was the problem causing the leak. He also saw a short in the switch that turns the machine on and off when the lid is open. He fixed this problem also for me

I called after hours and got a human being from an answering service who forwarded my information - got a call back within 5-10 minutes. Rich agreed to come out the next morning within the window of time he promised, calling when he was on his way and when he had arrived. He was polite and efficient, even asking whether I'd prefer he go in a back door, and let me watch what he did and explained what happened. It was a simple repair, but I'm glad I didn't get sold a replacement part when I didn't need it and now I know what that noise is if it happens again. I would definitely call them again if someone goes wrong with any of my appliances.

The technician responded to my call promptly and agreed to come by the very next day at 8:30 am in the morning. He was on time. He was polite and professional. Started working on the issue right away and seemed very knowledgeable. Within the first 25 minutes he figured the problem would be the lid switch and suggested to repair only the parts that needed the repair rather than replacing the entire switch. I am not sure why he only suggested to only repair and not replace. Perhaps it would cost more, I guess but he was confident that replacing the parts will do the trick. Over all he was good at what he did. I watched everything he did with the washing machine and feel confident working in there if I have to. I would recommend this company to others.

Rich came out on a Saturday morning with just a few days' notice. He arrived within the appointment window, quickly diagnosed what was wrong with both our washer and dryer, and fixed both very quickly with parts from his truck. Highly recommended.

Went great, they were very responsive. And came to help us the Monday after the 4th of July weekend. We had a cracked drainage tube that they replaced quickly. Our dishwasher is almost 20 years old so this fix will help give us time until we decide to upgrade our appliances. The repairman gave us good advice about what parts of our dishwasher can't be repaired. They seem like a very honest and helpful company.

I called at 8:15 on a Saturday, and Rich called me back quickly. He couldn't give me an exact service time, so we agreed he'd call around noon to confirm. He actually called earlier, and headed straight over. He got right to work, found the problem and made the repair. The quick turnaround and level of professionalism were excellent. I would definitely use for future repairs.

I called late in the evening on July 5th fully expecting to get their voicemail. I was surprised to have my call answered and they sent Mario out the next day at 8 AM! He was able to get the parts by 1 PM that day and our dryer was fixed! Very professional, speedy and courteous. Would hire them again in a heartbeat.

Quick resol tion of the problem. Very pleased that he knew exactly what the issue was as soon as he took a look. No wasted time. Punctual and efficient.

I have used A-Chicago Appliance Repair multiple times. My tenant called to say that her refrigerator was leaking water from the freezer. The technician said that the freezer coil had frozen and needed to thaw out. He said he could unfreeze with a heater or the tenant could simply unplug her refrigerator for 24 hours and it would unfreeze by itself. It was less expensive to unplug the refrigerator so that's what we did. I appreciated the technician's advice. it saved me some money. I also want to add that my tenant is difficult to deal with. She was very rude when she complained to the technician about her refrigerator not working and he remained polite and courteous throughout. NOTE: This company also goes under the name of Chicago Appliance Service.

I called them to fix a dryer in one of my apartment buildings. The service tech replaced the start switch, rewired the harness and put in a new fuse. He found that a previous company had wired the dryer incorrectly and he was able to get it working. I've used this company before and they are good at diagnosing problems. I'm happy to keep using them. They respond to service calls quickly and they know what they're doing. NOTE: This company also goes under the name of Chicago Appliance Service.

I've used this company a number of times before. When they came out to repair the washer they said that the repair would involve a lot of parts and labor. Since the machine was 11 years old they said it wouldn't be worth fixing and that I should buy a new one. I really appreciated their honesty and I've continued to use them. NOTE: This company also goes under the name of Chicago Appliance Service.

their answering service needs work, the standard line is "a service technician will call you in 5 to 10 minutes". they ask a boat load of questions none of which other than the name and phone number appears to get relayed. they service has no way to check the status of a previous call. my 5 to 10 minutes to get a return call, even with speaking with owner translated into almost 3 hours. After that things went reasonably smoothly, the tech called 10 minutes before the end of the time window he had given for being here to tell me he would be 20 minutes late. he presented himself appropriately and was appropriately attired, clean and polite. He inquired about the problem set out to find it and addressed the issue. he made recommendations for a product to use to help avoid recurrence and from info provided could have sold us a new control board and heater for several hundred dollars but indicated given age of machine that it would be better to put it to a new machine.

They showed up on time, were very communicative on the phone etc . Our 4 yr old dryer had stopped heating and they repaired it. We were also looking to have a repair to the control panel of our range done, but they advised against it as it was a very expensive part and not worth it as the ranged functioned. We appreciated the advise and savings.
