The service went well, but my list was longer then the time I had on hand. However, after what work he could complete we went through what was left to get a general idea of what kind of time will be needed in the future. He seemed honest, and I felt comfortable with him. He also cleaned up behind himself!

I bought the $98 for 2 hours deal on Angie's list and was contact right away. It was very easy to set up an appointment within the following week or so. I was surprised (and pleased) with their availability. The handy man called and was about 30 minutes early (awesome!) and was super pleasant to work with on a really crummy weather day. He did our projects quickly and efficiently and we were very pleased with the work. We'll use Budge Right Handyman again.

It did not go well overall. He was hired to paint the ceiling and he did a good job. We also had him tap off a line for us in the shower upstairs. He did not use the correct size of tool. The water leaked and then it had come in through the light fixtures. The guy did not understand the plumbing issue that he was there for. In addition, he also hung some pictures for us. He hung a mirror for us and it later crashed down on me. It didn’t cause any harm, but the mirror was an antique and has to be replaced. The pricing for the deal was excellent, but it lacked good quality. He was supposed to come back and finish the work, but we did not want to call them back due to the poor experience. I wouldn’t use this particular company again.

It went great. What I liked best is he -- Daniel -- cleaned up after himself. He was only a few minutes late both times. He was personable, knowledgeable about how to do everything we needed done, he explained why he did what he did. My husband mentioned we were charged for about 90 minutes when he was at Home Depot buying parts. He said he had to wait a long time in a line for charging to the company. My husband thought it should have taken less time but Ho knows. We would definitely use them again and would recommend them. We would not use them at the rate printed on the bill -- $99 to $110. We paid $88 for two hours as a deal, then $55 an hour for the rest. We of course paid for materials and should have.

The technician estimated that the job would take about 2 hours, but he left about 10% of the work undone, and said he would have to come back. During the next appointment, he ran out of materials, and said he would have to come back yet again. The fourth time he came back, he had purchased the materials, and charged me for them, which was fine. But, he also charged me for another hour, when he did not even complete work during the third hour for lack of materials! I feel like this company is run by crooks, and I am very disappointed in this experience.

Budget Right Handyman has achieved over 1000 A ratings on Angie’s List. As of the present, 1072 A’s to be exact - a fact we are very proud of. No one in our business, or any other business for that matter, maintains a near 13 to 1 A to F ratio on Angie’s List over the course of four years by engaging in deceptive business practices. This customer is a thief whose intention was simply to steal service from us. I just wish Angie’s List allowed me to give his name as a warning to other contractors.

We purchased a $99 deal for two hours of handyman service. The handyman who did the work did get three of the most important items on our list done, but there were issues with quality and lack of professionalism and also scaring us by telling us we most likely had asbestos in our basement that was hazardous to our health. Here's the list of work we had and the outcome for each: Replace deadbolt on garage door with new deadbolt that we purchased in advance and had keyed to match our other keys. Result: Completed mostly satisfactorily, though I discovered later that the handyman failed to install the metal plate that goes around the hole in the door frame where the bolt actually goes when you lock the door, using the existing wooden hole which is irregular, and which means it's a little harder to lock than it should be (because you have to line it up to fit a poorly defined irregular hole) and a little easier to just bust the door in. Install deadbolt on door to back of house Result: Completed satisfactorily. But, the handyman told me upon his arrival that the deadbolt I had purchased and had gotten keyed in advance to fit our other lock keys wouldn't work for the door because the door was old wood and probably brittle. He suggested another kind of deadbolt, which fits on the outside of the door and doesn't require drilling into the door. That seemed to be good advice, but I really would have liked to have gotten this advice before our two-hour period of time for handyman services had started, so I wouldn't have to make a mad dash to the hardware store to exchange a lock (which I was scared they wouldn't exchange since I had had it keyed to our key in advance. It also meant that we ended up not having that lock keyed properly since the person who does the keying wasn't at the hardware store when I made my mad dash there. And I don't know what I would have done if my husband hadn't been home to stay with the handyman, because I wouldn't want to leave a stranger there alone to work, especially since we have a dog who can be spooked by strangers and he brought his young son with him when he came to work. Since I did submit this on my list when I made my request for service, I would have liked to have gotten feedback in advance about any limitations on the kind of deadbolt I should buy. Hang heavy large painting. Result: Completed somewhat satisfactorily. But we had very specific directions about how this was supposed to be done and the proper way to install this painting is to cut a piece of wood at an angle and install that piece of wood on the wall to fit into another piece of wood, also cut at an angle, installed on the back of the painting. I had been assured when I made the service appointment that our handyman would be able to do this as I described it and had purchased the necessary wood in advance. He ended up installing the wood on the wall without cutting it at an angle so that it just sits on top of the angled piece of wood without fitting into it. He said something to my husband (I was at the hardware store at the time) about there being a risk of the wood cutting into the canvas of the painting if he angled it which my husband accepted at the time but has since changed his mind about. The piece was hung this way for many years, and was designed to be hung this way, and there's no risk at all if the wood is cut properly. I feel he just didn't want to go to the trouble of cutting the wood properly, a suspicion reinforced by other encounters listed below. The piece is unlikely to fall down, but is much less secure than we would like. And we could have hung it the way he hung it by ourselves, so it's not a job we would have needed to pay someone to do. The painting also sticks out a bit at the bottom because of the way it's hung, so it's a pretty mediocre job. Reattach loose springs on couch. Result: Work not done. We have an older leather couch which has some springs that have come loose and we can't immediately afford to replace it. I ordered replacement springs and did a not very good job of attaching them because I'm not that handy with a drill. Attaching them, though, should be pretty simple work for any handyman. But when my husband was asking the handyman about it when I was at the hardware store (and the guy was out of work to do until I got back because I had to go get the new deadbolt and because he skimped and did a lazy job on hanging the painting), he advised my husband that it wasn't worth doing because the couch was old and suggested that it wouldn't work (I wasn't there for the whole conversation, but that was the gist of it). I know it would work because I had attached the springs badly myself before and know they only came loose because of my ineptitude with that kind of work but didn't push back as hard as I should have and so that piece of work wasn't done. I later spent over an hour doing it myself and did an okay enough job that the couch is fixed for now, but would have infinitely preferred a professional fix. I think that part of what the handyman was saying was that the couch wasn't worth fixing but that was a decision for us to make, since as new homeowners we have other more urgent priorities for our limited funds than replacing the couch at this time. I wasn't asking him to guarantee the work, just to do what I asked. Again, I think he just didn't want to do it. Replace damaged ceiling tile. Result: Work not done and unprofessional comments and behavior displayed which caused us great concern and alarm. Since the handyman skimped on the job of hanging the painting and didn't work on the couch at all, he still had time left over on the two hours we had paid for so I checked in with him about another thing we needed done but that hadn't been on our original list. I didn't fully expect that he would be able to complete the job, because I didn't know if we had the necessary supplies for him to do so, but his reaction to it was really inappropriate. In our basement, there was a place where a speaker had been imbedded in a ceiling tile years and years ago and the speaker no longer worked, and was rusted and was rusting the tile around it. We wanted the tile replaced but weren't sure if the larger new ceiling tiles we had available (extra tiles left by the former owner) cut be cut down and used to fill in the hole. He said no the job wasn't possible because he'd have to get into the wiring that ran under other adjoining ceiling tiles. Then he said that he thought the tiles were asbestos anyway and examined them by tearing a bit off from the exposed edge around the speaker and crumbling it with no protective gear and no warning to us and with his son present, and said he was pretty sure it was asbestos because it was just like asbestos tile that he had removed on another job and that people often discover this after moving in and when they start to feel sick after a few months. He spoke very authoritatively about it, like he was positive it was asbestos. This was just before Christmas and we had plans to travel over the holidays, so we had to wait to get an opinion from an asbestos professional, and it meant we spent a few weeks really worried and anxious about what we thought was a very strong likelihood that we had hazardous asbestos in our new home, and worried about the health consequences and the hefty cost of remediation. We found out later that the type of tile we had not only did not contain any asbestos, but is known to NEVER contain asbestos. The testing specialist we consulted said that he never even tested these kind of tiles, because they weren't remotely suspicious. Conclusion: We got a pretty good deal for having the deadbolts installed, but disappointed that we didn't get all the info we needed to have the right deadbolts on hand (esp. since I made that part of the job very clear in advance) so I wouldn't have to make a mad hardware store dash and ended up losing the convenience of having all the locks keyed to the same key (a convenience I had waited an hour in the hardware store to get the day before). And one deadbolt was installed without the plate that surrounds the area where the bolt fits in. Everything else, we could have done ourselves or ended up having to do ourselves, and the good deal on the deadbolt installation wasn't worth the anxiety around the false asbestos alarm (and the experience of having someone crumble a material that he identified as asbestos in the air a few feet away from us).
Description of Work: Install 2 deadbolts, hang heavy piece of art (which involved cutting and installing piece of wood on wall first)

See above. I didn't realize there was another question/category. In regard to the desk levelling, Daniel took time to check and re check to make sure the desk was balanced and the drawers would not fall forward any more.I consider Daniel an expert in a wide range of repair/remodeling issues. He also is a craftsman with knowledge of wood furniture pieces. I've found my new handyman and am so relieved. Thank you, Budget Right Handyman!
Description of Work: List of various tasks including mounting a new light fixture on high ceiling and leveling out a heavy roll top desk in which drawers had started opening on their own. This took a lot of care - the floor turned out to be sloping in two directions and the desk needed different levels of propping up on each side. Daniel was very careful, thoughtful, knowledgeable and totally focussed on being helpful. Also did other tasks such as stapling some wiring which had been unstapled for a condo operation and replaced light bulbs in a high fixture I couldn't reach.. He made helpful recommendations, had a broad range of knowledge, and I knew I was in good hands. He had excellent suggestions about future projects I have been mulling over.
