the tilers were on time, worked hard throughout, and were concientious of quality, going over the finished tiling project with a close-eye scrutiny to ensure that the grout and glass tiles were in line and properly filled in. The end result was beautiful and the price was very reasonable.
Description of Work: I had a glass tile backsplash installed in my kitchen. They installed everything, brought their own tile cutter and tools, I only had to supply the materials (tile and grout).

This is an update to a previous review. A&M quickly responded to my initial contact. Somehow my response telling them when I would be available to come look at my project went astray, and they did not respond until I posted a very negative review. Thereupon Martin reacted quickly and professionally, making no excuses, simply offering an apology for what had occurred and asking what he could do to make it right. Based on this I invited him to visit my home and propose on my project, which he has done. He is the first of three contractors I contacted to get back to me with a detailed proposal and has been very accommodating in working with me to tweak it as ideas about the project have changed. He made the proposal easy for me to review by organizing it in the same way I organized my statement of the work I wanted done. It remains to be seen which of the three contractors I am talking to will be selected, but based on the experience so far, there would be no barrier to working with Martin.
Description of Work: I contacted A&M pursuant to an Angies List Big Deal they offered, to discuss a major remodeling project.

After my husband and I purchased our home, we set out to do a TON of little projects throughout the house. After about 3 years of all of our projects piling up, we decided we needed help. We both work full time and I'm going to school full time, there was no way we were going to get all this stuff done on our own. I called A&M b/c of the reviews here on Angie's List. I wanted to stick with a smaller, local company, as opposed to a larger corporation that was going to charge me for their overhead. I didn't realize at the time I called Martin, the owner, that they are located in Chicago - I am in the west suburbs, probably almost an hour away, but he still came out (on time) to give me a quote. I gave Martin QUITE the honey-do list, but he had no problems with any of the things we needed done. We scheduled for his guys to come about 2 weeks later and it took them 4 full days to complete all the work I mentioned. We had only anticipated it would take 2 days, but Martin stated he wasn't going to push the guys to go faster, he wanted them to do the work correct so I was satisfied. We are definitely happy with ALL of the work they did. The guys were nice, they asked me about things if they had questions instead of just doing it w/out my input. Our back door was probably my biggest concern, b/c we've always had issues with it. One guy must've spent almost an entire day just to do this door. He added in some drywall, did plastering around the door, it looks absolutely gorgeous! He put foam all around the door for insulation, he really did an awesome job and making sure this door was 100%. Originally, I called Feldco about our door and we were quoted $2500. So, after all was said and done, to buy the door on our own and have A&M install, we probably spent around $500 total. We even received a quote for a bathroom we need to have gutted in the future. When the time comes for us to take on that project, we will definitely be calling A&M for the job and for any job in the future we may need done. I'm so thankful we have finally found HONEST workers that just want to do a good job instead of doing sloppy work to make a buck.
Description of Work: Paint 4 ceilings - 3 bedrooms & living room Put together & Install 2 ceiling fans Install a closet rack/organizer Paint my entire downstairs living room - top to bottom, literally Install blinds - 5 total Install 5 shelves - 2 of which were over 50 lbs each Remove old door/install a new one along w/the doorknob & trim Fix a vent - the drywall was torn and vent was hanging in the ceiling by a string Install a new water spicket Install 2 outdoor lights - replacements - wiring was already there I think that's about it :) The amount we spent above also included some cost for materials. My husband and I purchased about half of the materials on our own, just as some of the paint and door trim, etc. All in all for all the materials and labor, we probably spent closer to $2750.

My wife and I are really happy with the experience we have had working with Martin Nevarez of A&M Remodeling. Using an Angie?s List Big Deal for tile installation, we were motivated to finally follow through with our long held plans to tile our kitchen backsplash area. We found some excellent hand-painted Mexican tile at a website called Tierra y Fuego, and made our plans. Martin replied promptly to our calls and emails. He stopped by the first day of our appointment to make sure everything would go smoothly (which, happily, it did). His employee Luis did an excellent job installing the tile, painting our kitchen and powder room, and installing a few bookshelves. We felt totally comfortable working with Luis, who was very friendly and worked hard. The bottom line is that we love the way our kitchen looks, had minimal hassles, and paid a very fair price. I highly recommend working with A&M Remodeling, and we will certainly call them next time we have a project.

We had demo'ed our tub surround and bathroom floor and had everything ready to go, except for the knowledge of how to do it right. Martin really saved the day. He accommodated our tight schedule - we were scheduled to move in to our home in a week and had only a few days to get the bathroom ready. They did a great job and were available to answer any questions that we had and worked hard to finish the bathroom before we moved in! Very satisfied with our experience and would definitely use them again.

It was great to work with A&M Remodeling. We purchased an Angie's List Big Deal and we received 40 hours of contractor work for only $1500. We met with Martin from A&M and covered our task list of the items we wanted to cover in the allotted time if possible. Martin helped us identify what materials we needed to get and we planned on starting work in a couple of weeks. During that time Martin was easily accessible by phone and very helpful. A&M was able to send a great contractor over who lead most of the work but he did bring a second person for one day of the work. The team did a great job on everything they did and they actually were able to get more things done than we originally expected for the amount of time we purchased. Martin also offers a great addition that if there is any work that doesn't fit into the schedule, they will help finish the items but at the same pro-rated rate that was included in the Big Deal. This was very helpful and we were able to finish painting our bathroom for just an extra $60! A&M was great to work with and we will certainly use them in the future.
Description of Work: We worked with A&M Remodeling on the following tasks: - kitchen back splash - bathroom mirror installation - drywall fixes - bathroom light fixture installation - ceiling fan removal and installation - interior painting - bathroom caulking

Our living room had plaster on the walls and ceiling. Unfortunately it was cracked and patches of the ceiling looked like it was ready to fall off. We also didn't have lighting on the ceiling. It was not one of my favorite rooms to say the least. We all love it!!!! I have no complaints at all. They arrived on time everyday, always very polite, and the owner always followed up. Will definitely keep them in mind for another project.
Description of Work: They torn down the walls and ceiling, put up plaster, put in a ceiling fan, took care of the trim (original to the house) and painted it, sealed our windows and cleaned up after their job was completed. We ended up asking them to paint our stairwell and our kid's room. All done within 8 days.

I purchased the Angie's Big Deal for 4 hours of tile installation and decided to use that for backsplash installation. Martin (the owner) called me even before I scheduled the work and checked with me to see what type of job I will be using the deal for. He was very helpful, let me know immediately what type of materials he will need (thinsets, grout and spacers). I called him a month later to schedule for the installation, and scheduling was a breeze. On the day of the job, Martin and Luis showed up on time, brought all their equipment and started working immediately. Luis was meticulous in his work and everything was done perfectly and he cleaned up after the area as well. Martin made sure everything was done right by checking in during the whole day.Since the job took longer than 4 hours to do, Martin was very nice to offer me the same hourly rate as the Angie's deal for the overages. I am very happy with the work and I highly recommend them. Thank you Martin and Luis!!

Great experience! Very professional hard working company!
Description of Work: This is a great company! After looking on Angie's List for a company to remodel our bathroom I came across A&M. Left a message for an estimate and got a call back right away. After going through the estimate Martin even suggested to replace our drop ceiling with drywall. We didn't even think about that but finally to get rid of that ugly ceiling. Martin has a great team and is a pleasure to work with! The workers always showed up on time and put in a hard days work. The most surprising detail was how clean they were through the whole process including the demo. The tiling looks phenomenal and the tiles cuts are so precise. They finished by installing the new toilet, vanity, shower doors, light fixtures and making our existing cabinets bigger when after the demo noticed there was wasted space. Also Martin reglazed our bath tub which it looks like we purchased a new tub.Our bathroom looks great I have received comments that it looks like a picture from a magazine. We also had them install a screen door and switch out some light fixtures. I walk in the bathroom and still say WOW! We will definitely do business with Martin again!

We are going to use them in about a week. They were awesome. The owner Martin was extremely responsive, personable and one hundred percent focused on our satisfaction. We used an Angie's List coupon so it was something like forty hours of handyman work for certain amount of money. We purchased a big deal and it was excellent value for money.

Despite a great deal of hassle and frustration with my local village, Martin was diligent in getting the work done. He jumped through all sorts of hoops for us and we greatly appreciate that! The work that was done on the tile job was beautiful. Martin and his team were all very pleasant and were very respectful of our home. Everything was kept very clean and contained to the area of work. The quality of workmanship is wonderful and we couldn't be any happier with the end result. We certainly will be calling Martin back for our next job!

Everything turned out great, we will definitely use this company again
Description of Work: Used Angie's List's coupon for replacing our porch with a deck. Martin came out & gave an estimate, He gave us such a good deal, so we went with him. Martin and his men were very professional and hard working. They also replaced some rotten boards by our dormers. They came back in June to stain our deck and it looks great. Any concern we had, Martin and his men took care of. Martin came out to check and make sure everything was done to our satisfaction. We will definitety use this company again The price included the deck, replacing boards on outside dormer and staining.

I purchased the current deal that A&M is offering for ceramic tile installation. Though it only covered 4 hours of work, the project ultimately took 22 hours.I called Martin at A&M to schedule the work. He had an employee (Louis) at my house within the week. Louis worked three full days in a row to complete the project. He arrived exactly when he said he would every morning. Though his English skills aren't 100%, it didn't impact the communication required to make the job go smoothly. He is professional, skilled, polite, hard-working. My house is 120 years old, so nothing is plumb or square. Louis did an amazing job of making the tile look great on all of my crazy skewed walls. I used charcoal-colored grout, which is really messy. Louis was very attentive and thorough about cleaning up after the job.I unreservedly recommend this organization for projects such as these.

I used them again since January. Last week, I used them for replacing the flooring. His name is Martin. He is an A+++. I will absolutely recommend him. As a matter of fact he is painting my unit right now. He is as reasonable as they come. I am using him this week for painting. I own numerous pieces of rental property. He is the first one that I will call in and say “Give me a bid on this” and he still goes through this. He has done tile work, plaster work, painting, tear out on floors and replacement of very fine expensive wood floors for me. Right now, he is doing painting and plastering work on one of my units. Once he is done with this, he is going to do tile work on a third unit. I ask him his opinion on what should be done and I give him my opinion. He responds to my opinion, sometimes I listen to him and sometimes I tell him, “this is the way I want it” and he says “you’re the boss”. But he expresses his opinion and gives me his opinion as to why he thinks this should be like this. I’ve been doing rental property for 45 years. It’s not like I’m new and don’t know what’s happening.

Overall, our job went great. Martin came out at the scheduled time to give us an estimate on the work to be done. The start date was only changed once and only by a couple of days because the job before ours wasn't done just yet. Martin gave us plenty of notice so that was no problem at all. My husband had pretty clear instructions on how we wanted the tile installed and his guy did exactly what we wanted. When the project was done, there was one tile that was a little loose and a couple of mosaics that looked "pushed in". We told Martin about it, he apologized and had his guy come back to make the repairs without hesitation. Martin was very easy to work with and extremely professional. We are extremely happy with the finished project!

I purchased the 4 hour tiling Big Deal thinking I would get them to do the tiling of the tub area as part of a bigger bathroom remodel. When I started demo on my own, I discovered that the walls I thought would be a faux stone veneer over drywall were actually half-inch thick manufactured stone over existing tile over two inches of concrete wall reinforced by wire lath. Needless to say this was way more work than I had budgeted time for, so I asked Martin to give me an estimate on doing the whole job. He originally quoted me $2,800 over 7 days for the labor to fully gut the bathroom down to the studs, fur out the studs, install drywall and cement board, replace a drop ceiling with a new framed in drywall ceiling, tile the floor and tub area, paint, relocate a pedestal sink and replace the tub hardware. During the course of the demo, we discovered that the tub was actually covered with a liner that would not fit now that we had removed ~2 inches of wall all the way around, so we needed to have the original tub refinished and have the drain for the tub re-routed. We also had to relocate the sink plumbing to accommodate the new pedestal sink. These additions added $900 and a couple more days to the labor estimate. In addition to the estimated work, Martin's team also installed new baseboards and door trim and hung new lights and a medicine cabinet for us. We ended up using the Big Deal coupon to have them install the vanity upstairs that replaced the relocated pedestal. I provided all finishing products (tile, paint, grout, hardware) and had Martin pick up the rough materials. He charged me only cost for the materials and the labor came in exactly at the revised estimate. His team did a solid job with the finishes - amazing tile work in the tub area and with painting walls and trim, but slightly less impressed with the floor - still good, but the mosaic tile probably required a little more attention to detail to ensure the grout was properly wiped from each little piece. We used a white marble subway tile and white marble mosaic floor tile with grey grout. The guys did stain the caulk around the tub to match the grout, which was a nice touch. The only beef I had was that during the demo one of his guys knocked over the toilet and cracked it. Luckily my mother-in-law was home at the time and saw it happen, but when I alerted Martin he had not heard about it from his guys. When asked they did admit to knocking it over so Martin replaced the toilet at his cost. When presented the receipts for the rough materials I noticed the toilet was in there (along with a receipt for a new circular saw) - Martin did adjust both of these items out of the cost and apologized for inadvertently including them. The toilet he picked up was pretty clearly the low-end model at Home Depot, but I should have negotiated that with him beforehand to ensure we would get comparable quality to what was broken. Overall the difference in the bathroom is nothing short of amazing - what was once the only potential impediment to us purchasing the home in the first place is now a showstopper bathroom that fits the age of the house and our style perfectly. I can't complain at all about the total cost of the job, as we now have a completely remodeled bathroom for less than $5,000. The quality ranges from outstanding to just ok, but for the price it would be hard to do substantially better I think. Would use them again for work that needs to stay on budget.

Turned out very nice, Luis managed to reuse most of the existing tiles which was good since we don't have many extras on hand. Job looks great, Luis did a fine job on the window well and his clean up was top notch. Would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Had them out to fix some ceramic tiles that came loose from a window well in our bathroom. Turns out the original contractor didn't use the proper material under the tile-it was plain wood. Martin explained what had to be done (remove all the existing tiles in the well, remove rotting wood, install proper material and retile the window well) and Luis started the job. He came back the next day to finish with the grout after the tiles dried.

The results are fantastic, we very much enjoy the new bathroom. I was very impressed with how quickly they were able to start and finish. I appreciated Martin's honest assessment of the ventilation issue and his ability to not let it slow down the job. He was upfront about all the costs, didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need, and of course the fact that he extended the Big Deal's hourly rate to the whole job was tremendous. We feel much better having had the job done by a professional rather than doing half as good a job by ourselves.
Description of Work: I purchased a "Big Deal" for ceramic tile installation, but before the purchase I contacted the company to make sure my type of tile qualified. Martin was very quick to respond and remained so throughout the duration of the project. When he came to view the space - a small bathroom - and I explained the full scope of work, I was pleasantly surprised to learn he was actually a general contractor, not just a tile guy, and he offered to extend the Big Deal hourly rate to the entire job, which I knew was a great deal. His installer, Ivan, was punctual and courteous every day and finished the job in 3 days. I purchased all of the materials except for the really technical items (underfloor, adhesive, etc) and Martin charged only the actual cost, no markup. In total they demo'd the existing tile floor, sink cabinet, toilet, medicine cabinet, ventilation fan and sconce, then installed new underfloor, tile, sink cabinet, toilet, mirror, sconce and ventilation fan. While installing the new fan, Martin discovered that the sloppy flipper of our house had it venting to the "attic", not to the outside, so we approved the change order to vent it properly through the roof.

A&M did an incredible job! Unfortunately, I regular electrician was unavailable and we had to use another electrician to rewire our kitchen as part of our kitchen remodel. This electrician proved very unreliable and as such I had to keep changing our schedule for A&M. They were completely professional and understanding the entire time despite the fact that I was becoming somewhat of a nightmare customer. Eventually A&M mentioned that they could have done the electrical work as well but they did not want to take business from someone I had already committed to, which I thought was very decent of them. They worked incredibly hard and were very respectful of our house. I will give them the first bid for any job we do in the future. We are very pleased with their work and their personalities.
Description of Work: A&M stripped plaster walls covered in tile down to the studs and then put up drywall in our kitchen.

I find the pricing competitive and the crew has always shown up on time and finished on budget/on schedule. The lack of surprise expenses (I've had approx $50 in surprise expenses, ever--both times related to rusted plumbing fixtures) and quality of work are probably the two main reasons I'd continue to hire them.
Description of Work: I was referred to A&M through a friend and have had them out a number of times, most recently for a bedroom/bathroom/kitchen facelift, which included wallpaper removal, ceiling fan installation, painting, and granite countertop installation. I first used A&M in the summer of 2010—in total I have probably spent about $12K with the company on various projects, large and small.
