Description of Work: Great service. Our chimney was suffering from some structural issues that Mark was able to identify and suggest options for repair. Nice guys, patient and forthcoming.

Description of Work: We requested repairs to our stone steps and some tuckpointing. The people at the office and the technician were all VERY nice. That said, the work was poor. The joints were very sloppy, with the patching material splattered on the steps, cracks left exposed and the finished product rough and lumpy. The bottom of the steps were also not done. We called and were assured they would be fixed. The technician returned and did, indeed, smooth out the work and cleaned off most of the splattered material (but not all). He did not fix the bottom of the steps - he said he didn't know he was supposed to and would need to come back. After a few weeks went by without word, we called. Turns out the technician did not tell the office he needed to return, so our job was closed as finished. They sent him out again to make the final fixes. Overall, the work is so-so - looks like we did it ourselves. We suspect the tuckpointing is sub-par, as well. Between the questionable quality, the missed appointments, the chasing around and overall hassle: Definitely NOT worth the $$.

Description of Work: On-time and kept place clean while cleaning chimney. They did find problems with the chimney cap and sell me additional services though. I felt I didn't really have a choice.

Description of Work: Chimney cleaning and ultimately necessary repairs on our chimney. They took an ample amount of photographs to document the before and after. It helped us understand what need to be done and how it looked after repairs were made.

Description of Work: They repaired the stone planter box on our front stoop. They did a good job of the mortar joints.

In addition, they treated a portion of the brick with a breathable sealant to help deal with some deterioration of the brick. The work was done thoroughly and ahead of time, and our contact gave us some good recommendations for other work.

Description of Work: We used an Angie's List deal to try their services. They cleaned a chimney for a fireplace in a two-story coach house. Very professional. No mess. They also suggested some repairs and enhancements, which we decided not to do at this time but will consider for later. We will definitely use them again.

Description of Work: I purchased an Angie's list deal that advertised $159 for $300 of tuck pointing or masonry work. When A-1 came out to look at the small tuck pointing job that we needed, they told us they could do no less than a full day of work, which cost $1500. To be clear, our project did not require a full day - they just said that they would not come and do the work without charging for a full day. So, they offered a $300 deal knowing that they would never agree to do $300 worth of work. Then, after saying they would only do a full day of work, they called me at about 2pm at my office on the day they did work insisting that I somehow had to pay them at that moment because they were finished with the work. I ended up in a heated discussion with their office, because they continued to demand payment, and could not understand why I thought it strange that they wanted me to pay them immediately and without seeing their work. When I got home to view the work - long after the workers had left, because their "full day" ended by 3pm - I found that although some of the work looked good, other parts were sloppy and left gaps in the mortar that they were supposed to be fixing. All in all, it was a miserable experience and we will not use them again, nor will I be likely to buy another Angie's list "deal."

Description of Work: They gave us an estimate for work needed based on the inspection they did. They seemed very knowledgeable and price estimate seems fair. We haven't had them do the work yet as we are having them come in to also inspect fireplaces and chimneys on other side of building.
