Description of Work: They cleaned the chimney, inspected the outside and found water leaking between chimney and roof, plus cement cracked... Air duct covers on outside were flattened. They photograph everything for you. They did all the repairs right then and there. All repairs felt to be very expensive but I did not do comparisons.

Description of Work: They cleaned the chimney through Angie's list deal. They then replaced the cap on my chimney for an extra charge. The service was quick and went well. The gentlemen were extremely professional and courteous.

Description of Work: Very professional - good price for chimney sweep and inspection ($129 deal through Angie's list). They discovered some resealing that needed to be done showing me pictures of the area that needed work. Cost for a complete reseal was $365, a little high, but worth the fix since we had heard dripping in the fireplace prior to their visit & they were able to complete the work right then. Super nice, professional guys - and he also checked and sprayed furnace chimney that was rusting just to be nice. Gave me before and after pictures of the work. Would happily go with them again - nice to know we have a safe fireplace for the winter!

Description of Work: Inspected and serviced all chimneys in a six unit condo building and made repairs as necessary. Crew was punctual, professional and very knowledgeable about what needed to be done to correct the issues we were experiencing in our units with smoke coming back down the chimney when fires were lit in some units.

Description of Work: I had an outside gas leak due to a landscaper mistake, so Nicor had to shut down the gas in the house. When relighting the hot water heater, there was a back draft, so the Nicor service man shut it down and said I needed the chimney flue swept to see there was no blockage. I called Angie's list for the job. A-1 Safety Chimney came on 9/11/15.The men went on the roof and unscrewed the chimney cap and put a tape measure down the flue, and then measured the width. They never swept the flue, however he said it wasn't necessary. They said it was a 5"liner and I really needed a 6" liner. He said this was an all day job. They said they would apply the $109 I'd paid for the sweep to the $1760.00 job and it would only cost me $1651.00. As that was such a bigger job than I'd anticipated, I decided to have another opinion. I contacted a contractor I know, and he said," no, the draft was lost due to the cold weather when they had the gas off, and to just turn on the furnace for 5/10 min. and relight the hot water heater and a new updraft would be established." I then called my HVAC service and told them the problem, and they repeated the solution I had just heard. I asked them to come out and inspect it all and for them to do the relighting, as I wanted it done by a licensed gas handler. They went on the roof, and put a rope and floodlight down the flue, no blockage,and said the liner was a 6", and did not need to be replaced. They turned on the furnace for a few min and re-lit the hot water heater and in a few minutes we had up draft and no down draft. I have also had Nicor come back out and they examined everything this morning and said all was well( without a $1760.00 liner that was obviously not needed). Although the service man from A-1 Safety Chimney was polite, I feel I must give them an F, for trying to sell me something I did not need. I also feel if they were willing to write on the receipt that they would credit my $109 pre-payent towards this $1760.00 job, I should now be refunded that credit. Possibly this service man was not properly trained on up drafts and down drafts, and needs to be retrained.
