We used this company for removing asbestos tiles in a bedroom. The gentleman that does the quotes as well as the workers were very pleasant and on time. The problem that we had is that they did not do a good job vacuuming the walls or the slot under the drywall where the drywall sits up about 1/4" above the floor. There were also stains on our walls from when they used the solvent to remove the floor mastic. What's interesting about those stains is that we were promised that they initially put up plastic sheeting to the 4' level on all of the walls. I question whether they even did that because the plastic sheeting would have kept the walls clean. We also ordered an airlock so that their workers could clean their outfits when exiting the room. They did install an airlock but never did vacuum off their clothes when leaving the room, nor remove their clothes as we were told they would. We were told that they wear 2 outfits and remove one set upon leaving the room. That never happened. We were also told that 3 people would be on the job. Only two were. I think that's why the guy who was doing the actual removal had to keep walking out of the protected area. We were told that the procedure would be that he would hand the bags out to someone through the airlock. When they were done I started remodeling the room and noticed right away that there was drywall dust from my drywall work the week before on top of all the trim. They obviously did not take their HEPA vac and actually vacuum in those places. There were also all sorts of broken pieces of floor tile beneath the drywall in the small 1/4" section where the drywall does not rest on the floor. They did a good job of removing the mastic from our concrete slab however. Asbestos removal is an interesting procedure where you a paying someone to remove microscopic particles from your residence and it can be difficult to tell how well the job was done. It's very disconcerting to find out that large chunks of floor tile were in that gap at the bottom of the drywall because it makes it obvious that no one vacuumed there, or on top of the trim pieces in the room. Most people who order this sort of service probably do not take a very careful look at how their room(s) is left and most would be pleased with the job that we got. I would caution anyone who uses this company to be aware of the sloppy job that they did at our house. I'd also make sure that you hire a separate lab for the air testing that needs to be done.

Bluestone came out and inspected the basement after I noticed a panel that looked like asbestos. They explained the process of removal and air quality testing (post-removal) after verifying that it was asbestos. They set up all the necessary safety precautions and removed the panel with not problems at all. Air quality tests showed that they did their job with nothing left over. Everyone involved in this process took the time to answer every question that was asked and had an extensive knowledge in their field. Holy Punctual! Bluestone was scheduled to start the removal at 8 in the morning. At 7:59 I walked toward the front of my house thinking I had a few minutes to relax on the front stairs and sip a cup of coffee. As the clock flipped to 8:00 the Bluestone van pulled in front of my house and was put into park. Before my clock flipped to 8:01 I was shaking hands with the technician. NASA would be impressed with that kind of timing. Documentation. Documentation. Documentation. Bluestone provided every piece of paper necessary for my records without prompting and was meticulous in their attention to detail. Hopefully I won't find the random piece of asbestos in my home again but if I do, I will be calling Bluestone. Thanks!

We are planning on changing the heating system in our house. Before we could proceed with this project, we had to arrange for asbestos to be removed from the heating pipes in the basement. We contacted Bluestone Environmental, Inc. to come out and give us an estimate and explain what would need to be done. Mr. Savoie came out to review the situation and said an estimate and contract would be emailed the next day, which he did. He also told us that an inspector would also need to be present on the same day, which is the law, and said there would be an additional fee for the inspection. I asked him to make the arrangements for the inspector to be there for us, The workmen were there at the exact time and day agreed on as was the inspector, Mr. Walsh, from ECG, Inc. Mr. Savoie, the workmen who did the removal, and Mr. Walsh were very friendly and knowledgeable. We were very satisfied and would recommend Bluestone Environmental, Inc. and ECG, Inc.

The estimator, Spencer Savoie, took the time to talk with me twice after the estimate to explain what they would do. I was concerned about possible contamination if I moved items out of the room in preparation for the cleaning that were stored directly on the floor in areas where the tile was broken or missing. He revised the estimate to cover the cleaning of those items--there were quite a few--and said that his people would move them out of the room before they removed the tile. He did not charge me anything additional for this extra work. Vince Baratta and William came on time, were very professional and friendly. They were conscientious about what I wanted and did everything to make the process smooth, answering all my questions. There was about an hour wait time after the tile removal and cleaning while we waited for the air inspection results. Jacob, the air inspector and Vince and I took a tour of my garden, talked and shared life experiences. Who would ever think you could have such a good time having asbestos removed from your home!

In mid-August I began a project to update the kitchen and a bedroom in my early 1950's home. When I removed the wall paneling and the carpeting from the bedroom, we uncovered vinyl square tiles of a size typically found to contain asbestos. Although the damage to the tiles was minor, when the framing inspector saw the floor he refused to approve the framing for the bedroom or the kitchen until I received a letter from a licensed asbestos remediation company describing how the flooring would be removed or how it could be enclosed, even though my contractor explained that we were going to put a hardwood floor over the tile. This effectively put my entire project on hold. I immediately checked Angie?s List for asbestos removal companies and called a couple, including Bluestone Environmental. When I explained the situation I was told that enclosing my floor with the floating hardwood floor that I planned was acceptable, I couldn?t get anythign in writing due to liability issues. Spencer suggested I talk to environmental consultants and gave me the names of two companies Bluestone works with. I spoke to one of them and they too were unable to give me a letter attesting to my plan to enclose the tile with a hardwood floor, for liability reasons. The next day I received a call from an environmental consultant who had been asked to call me by Spencer; however, he too was unable to help me?liability issues. I procured information from other sources supporting my plan to enclose the suspected vinyl asbestos tile and sent that to the building inspector and my village official who was now involved. However, they would not accept the information and continued to insist on requiring a licensed asbestos remediation company inspecting my floor. I called Bluestone and requested they come out to give me an estimate in case I was going to be forced to remove the floor in order to keep my remodeling project moving forward. Spencer was on time, noted that the damage to my floor was minor and agreed that enclosing it was the way to go. I asked if he could send me an email that I could forward to the building inspector and village official stating what the condition of my floor was and he agreed to do so along with a quote for removal. The email he sent me that afternoon contained not only the information I requested, but additional information about when asbestos containing material should and shouldn?t be removed and his recommendation that my floor did not warrant removal. It was an excellent, informative email. When I forwarded the email to my village official she insisted on receiving the information on Bluestone letterhead. Spencer was attending an all day conference, but he took the time to speak to an Illinois EPA representative at the conference to double check his information and incorporate that into the letter he generously prepared and sent to me on a Sunday. He went way above and beyond a simple job estimate to help a desperate person stuck between a rrock and a hard spot.
Description of Work: Spencer Savoie came to my house and examined a suspected vinyl asbestos tile floor. He providfed me with not only a quote, but a letter for my building inspector and local village official, agreeing wtih my plan to enclose the floor rather than remove it. He did all this at no charge. Spencer is a model of customer service! Although I do not plan to remove the floor as long as my inspector and village official do not force me to, I would not hesitate to have Bluestone perform the work if the rest of the comapny is as conscientious and customer oriented as Spencer.

Bluestone Environmental went above and beyond from start to finish! They promptly responded to our inquiry through Angie's List, setting up a time to review the situation within the week, especially since we only have one bathroom in the unit. Tyler not only quoted the job but also completed the job himself. We originally thought we would have to hire an electrician to replace the bathroom fan, but Tyler had no problem handling that, along with safe removal of the drywall (I don't want to mess with mold)! In addition, when the ceiling was opened up, Tyler found some additional obstructions that had to be cleared and did it all on his own, just to make sure the job was done right. He was exactly on time every morning and finished the job as planned, and the bathroom was perfectly clean by the time he left each day so it could still be used. The bathroom fan model he recommended is working very well! The 5% discount for Angie's List members was a nice bonus! Highly recommended.
Description of Work: Mold spots had grown on bathroom ceiling (drywall) after bathroom fan stopped working in Chicago condo. Bluestone Environmental removed the mold-ridden drywall, replaced the drywall with moisture-resistant drywall, conducted electrical work to replace the bathroom fan with a modern model they recommended, and painted drywall when it was finished. Took three days to allow the drywall compound to dry in between coats.

Excellent. It took two days to complete. First day they removed all our furniture out of the basement and started the first stage of removal completing the work on the second day. From start to finish Spencer and his team made sure ducts and doors were sealed and they were very careful not to scratch or break anything and that is not easy to do. They are a professional and respectful group. They even allowed us to schedule the moving back of our furniture for a later date so we could have new flooring put in and they were just as careful then as they had been before.

Prior to work date, Bluestone also coordinated and scheduled the third party testing company (required by law). Crew arrived on time and completed work ahead of schedule. We knew the house had asbestos taped ductwork when we purchased it. We contacted Bluestone about assessing the cost of removing it. They came and gave us a quote, which was on the high end, but it included some demoltion to locate ductwork that was hidden by a partially finished basement. As we wanted the work done soon, Bluestone returned a week later to remove the ductwork. The person who came was not the initial assessor, but was very thorough and professional and actually took time to double-check what he saw with a phone call to the initial assessor to make sure everything was done correctly the first time. He was extremely professional (no complaints about working in >95 degree heat) and courteous and made sure to call us to make sure he did the job the way we wanted (removing stuff behind several walls/ceilings). Afterwards he explained all of his work to us, and, as stated above, the third party clearance testers and the cook county inspector came and were impressed with the quality of the work done.
Description of Work: Bluestone Environmental gave us a quote for removal of abestos-taped and insulated ductwork throughout the basement. They then removed all of the ductwork, including demolition of part of the basement and removal of taped ductwork behind the walls and above ceiling drywall (after calling us first to make sure that we really wanted the demoltion). They were professional, quick and very helpful and both the secondary clearance testers and the cook county compliance officer were impressed with the quality of their work. They would have removed the asbestos tape alone if we chose but the ductwork needed replacing anyhow so this solution was best for us. They explained all the work they did and were very informative about what our options were.

Spencer, the estimator arrived on time and he briefed me in a very informative matter concerning the situation with asbestos in my residence. He used terms I could understand. He suggested a very comprehensive and cost effective approach to abating the asbestos in my residence. The job was executed flawlessly later in the week at the appointed time. When dealing with asbestos it is very easy to scare people into paying more money than when they should due to the health hazards involved. Spencer of Bluestone Environmental did not resort to any such tactics. It was a great experience working with Bluestone Environmental and I am incredibly satisfied with the work they did.

Spencer came in to inspect some fungal growth and efflourescence in my attic, covering two rafters. Spencer was punctual and even crawled into this very very small space to see up close something that I couldn't identify. Spencer quickly diagnosed the issue and told me I can handle the situation myself and save some money. He said he would email me instructions and a materials list on how to remediate the issue. I was skeptical as not all professionals are willing to go above and beyond for NO compensation. The next day, Spencer sent me a detailed email with instructions on how to rememiate the fungal growth! I was pleasantly surprised.I will gladly use Spencer in the future for any mold testing/remediation issues that may arise.Great experience.

From start to finish this job was performed very professionally. Mold remediation seems like a scary thing to deal with, especially in a much-used room like the bathroom, but Bluestone Environmental made me feel at ease. I obtained three estimates for the mold remediation job and selected Bluestone even though they weren't the least expensive. I felt comfortable with their explanations of the work to be performed, and I was impressed with the reviews they had received on Angie's List. Spencer arrived at the scheduled time to inspect the mold in my bathroom. Later the same day he provided an estimate for the job. The estimate clearly stated what the work would entail, what I needed to do to prepare for the remediation (remove everything from my bathroom), how long the project would take, and the total cost. Bluestone arrived promptly to perform the work. The job was completed in about four hours, and the bathroom was left very clean. All of the procedures described in the estimate to contain contamination and control air flow were performed. All debris was removed and disposed of by Bluestone.

When I first called the company I was given a rather high estimate over the phone, but that is absolutely the only negative thing I have to say. After I had researched various companies, Bluestone was still on the short list, so I called back to ask that an estimator come out to look at the job. Spencer arrived exactly on time, agreed the job was very straight-forward, and quoted me $200 both on the spot and in a written proposal at the end of the day. One of the other estimators had suggested that all the fittings at the elbows of my heating pipes (75 of them!) were "almost certainly" asbestos-containing as well and should be "encapsulated" (painted with lock-down material), which he would do for an additional $650, if I hired him at $850 for the 5 linear feet. Spencer said he questioned whether the fittings were likely to contain asbestos, given that they were fairly clearly installed at the same time as the fiberglass straight-line insulation, and that in any case they were in excellent condition, so his advice would be to leave them alone. When I found one that was open and called him back, he said he could remove that fitting at no extra charge (and again provided a written proposal, now revised to include one fitting, by the end of the day). Eventually I decided that the only rational course of action was to have the fittings tested, which I did -- twice actually (very different story), and all tests came back negative, so we were back to just the five linear feet. For awhile I was very anxious about how low Bluestone's bid was -- much lower than the others I received. However, the proposal was extremely professional (detailing methods, licensing, permits, waste disposal compliance, etc) -- and I knew that I had an air clearance testing company that I trusted, which I considered my insurance that things would be done right. In the end, they were done better than I could have wished for. We had some scheduling problems (Spencer called me Sunday night to say that his worker had just called in sick and he couldn't find a replacement, which meant I had to call my contact guy at the air clearance company at his home - not ideal, but what can you do), and Vince was also 30-40 minutes late for the rescheduled appointment on Wednesday, which again put a burden on the air clearance guy, since he had to wait for him -- but again, traffic was awful that day and what can you do; and everyone was very apologetic and understanding, so it all worked out. And most importantly, Vince did an amazing job. Going only slightly over the two hours allotted, he hung plastic over all penetrations to other parts of the basement, established negative pressure with an air-scrubbing machine, removed the five feet inside a glove-bag, and hepa vacuumed and wet-wiped the entire area when he was done. He was simultaneously efficient and almost perfectionist in his work. I was very impressed -- and (maybe more importantly), so was the air clearance guy. I cannot recommend this company more highly. My impression is that they are virtually alone in dealing completely honestly with this kind of work, bidding what it will actually cost rather than what your fear might lead you to think you have to pay.

Spencer, William and the whole Bluestone Crew were exceptional! They went above and beyond to ensure I was satisfied. The amount of mold damage ended up being more extensive than either of us thought during the walk-through. Bluestone did not ever try and charge me extra for the additional work. They did a very professional job and I would use them again and highly recommend them!!
Description of Work: Bluestone was hired to remove mold from a home I purchased with significant water damage. I needed them to finish a job that was started but not properly completed by a different contractor. The scope of work was the basement, first and second floor of the home. All of the drywall in the basement, first floor and second floor were removed with the exception of the second floor ceiling. Bluestone then cleaned and removed the visible mold, sprayed an acrylic anti-microbial paint to encapsulate the wood and installed air scrubbers to clean the air for a number of days. When the mold tests came back, the results showed the remediation process had been completed and validated the great work by Bluestone.
