I dealt with three different people at Bluestone. Spencer did the initial inspection and estimate, Jenny handled the logistics, and Vince (and his team) did the actual abatement. All three were very professional and pleasant to work with. I was able to get an appointment within 48 hours of my first call. Spencer was prompt and very thorough. He explained each part of the process and what aspects of the project (access to the outside and height of the attic are two that I can remember) would affect the cost. The initial proposal was emailed to me the same day as the inspection, and I received a revised proposal (after I added one new item) within an hour of my request. Vince explained the three-day process upon his arrival and kept right to schedule. One of his team members did accidentally put a small hole in the ceiling of a bedroom with a misstep in the attic, but it was repaired before I even knew there was a problem. The attic was extremely clean when they were finished. They had even tightened up a window fan that had been hanging on by a thread and left a plywood path for us to walk on until we re-insulate it and put down a new floor. It was a very good experience from start to finish.

They set up the first appointment immediately after our phone call to inspect the areas. Quickly set up appointment to perform the removal. Arrived exactly at appointed time (7:00 am) and worked till completed around 2pm. Sealed off the areas to be addressed; completed the removal. When they realized that the mastic that attached tiles to floor was not asbedstos containing, projected manager went out to buy different solvent remover so as to minimize fumes that would be generated. Everything was very clean after the work was done. They transported all the material removed to the required has. waste disposal site. Project manager stayed most of time on site to direct the crew. Very satisfied.

Bluestone was amazing. Everyone I dealt with, from the sales/estimator, to the crew that did the work, to the office staff, was professional and nice. Bluestone had a fair price and did an EXCELLENT job at removing the mold in our basement. They were on time, knowledgeable, and did the work in the time allotted. For anyone who is entering the world of mold removal, it's scary b/c it's hard to know who's not scamming you or what a mold removal job is supposed to be like (at least that's how I felt). I got four quotes from businesses on Angie's List and the quotes were all totally different with very different prices. We had a contractor friend review all of them and he said that Bluestone had a good quote with a thorough explanation of the work to be completed. I am so happy that we went with Bluestone and would definitely recommend them to anyone else who was unlucky enough to have a mold problem. I can't say enough about how pleased we are with Bluestone. Thank You!!!!
Description of Work: Bluestone removed extensive mold from our basement (approx. 30 x 15) . They had to removed the bottom 4 feet of drywall on the outer perimeter along with portions of the ceiling where a toilet had been leaking. In addition, once they started the remediation they realized the mold was more extensive and they ended up having to remove all the flooring.

Very professional from start to finish. Customer service is alive and well with this service team. We would highly recommend Tyler, William and Spencer to everyone! Tyler made an excellent first impression. He was prompt and courteous. We had an old gravity feed octopus furnace that was damaged during the April 2013 flood and needed to be removed. Tyler did a complete inspection and explained everything thoroughly so that I could discuss everything with my husband. The office emailed an estimate to us the next morning. Due to the flood there have been many road blocks which delayed our ability to start the project immediately. When we were ready to have the furnace removed my husband had additional questions and spoke with Spencer. He was also impressed with the way Spencer took the time to answer all his questions. We scheduled an appointment to have the entire completed by Bluestone the following week. The cost provided was for the removal not for a quote. We were not billed for an estimate. Tyler followed up the day before our scheduled appointment and arrived with the crew to explain the job he previously scoped. William was our project manager and immediately made me feel that the job was in excellent hands. They were able to work with my schedule that day. Not only did they finish on time but additional crew members came over to help out and they were able to finish ahead of schedule. An unexpected but pleasant surprise. THANK YOU to everyone at Bluestone for all your hard work!

I was leery about companies that do asbestos testing AND remediation, since it seems that it's in the company's best interest to find asbestos. But when I read the reviews for Bluestone, I saw that they did have some customers who tested negative for asbestos (unlike most of the other companies I found). I called and was able to get an appointment two days later--the person I spoke to even adjusted the schedule to accommodate me. Spencer showed up on time and was friendly, professional, and knowledgable. He explained everything he was doing, and explained what the possible outcomes might be. We ended up testing negative for asbestos, which is great, but if we hadn't, I would have certainly hired Bluestone to do the cleanup. Very trustworthy.

Bluestone did a superb job in every way. Jenny Sejda was extremely responsive and patient with our questions (and we had a lot of questions!). Spencer Savoie gave us a free estimate, as well as promptly updating it for free since the original estimate expired before we were ready to proceed. The job was scheduled quickly, paperwork for the permit being submitted the same day we agreed to the contract. Vince Baratta and his assistant Eduardo were on time for the job, completely professional and thorough. They left our basement clean and most importantly asbestos-free. We couldn't have asked for anything more.

Spencer Savoie was very prompt with an e-mail quote, and followed up quickly when I got back to him in July to say we were set to go. Jenny Sejda scheduled the work for mid-August, calling back when there was a minor change. Communication with these guys is A+! Their 2 man crew (Vince and Eduardo) were prompt and took exactly as long as predicted, a very quiet and self-contained operation, hardly knew they were there from 2 floors up. Had a good experience with them, and the work seemed to go just as planned. Clearly they care a great deal for good results. Cost was exactly as promised. Had a poor experience with the follow on air testing firm Environmental Consulting Group (Bluestone's "subcontractor") and have expressed my concerns to Spencer, who took what action he could to resolve that situation. It's the only reason this review is not a complete "A"

Bluestone Environmental was very professional during the entire project explaining what they were doing. They promptly responded to our inquiry through Angie's List, setting up a time to review the situation within the week. They were on time every morning and finished the job as planned. They were very concerned about the condition they left our home in and cleaned the areas they used by the time they left each day. I would definitely recommend Bluestone Environmental.
Description of Work: We had our home inspected and found that there was mold in the attic. We got a few estimates to have the mold remediated and selected Bluestone Environmental to do the work. The project took 2 days and the two man crew arrived at the time specified and got right to work. Bluestone Environmental established the work area in the attic by installing plastic seals over the recessed lighting and other areas in the ceiling below the attic. They used air machines that ran during the project to aid in the removal of airborne mold spores. They removed insulation within 6" of the eaves, to facilitate treatment of the mold. They applied a disinfectant and scrubbed the sheathing and rafters, throughout the attic. They then used a HEPA vacuum and wiped it all down for final cleaning.

Spencer came to give us an estimate and test our tile flooring in the basement. He then contacted us with the news that our 1950 tile and the mastic was asbestos. Vince and his crew arrived on schedule and removed the carpet, tile and mastic. Job went smoothly - there was a an odor from the solvent for about a day. We did have a third party come in to test the air quality upon completion of the job. Very pleased with the service and think you will be also.

One of the main reasons I selected Bluestone was due to the fact they were one of the few companies that offered free estimates. Their price was reasonable and they were able to schedule the job very quickly, while other companies had waiting lists to even receive an estimate. They arrived right on time and were able to finish the job in 4 hours. The debris was entirely cleaned up and the room was left in great condition. The crew was very professional, informative and friendly.

I can't say enough good things about the work performed by Bluestone Environmental. I used them about 5 years ago to remove asbestos tile from the basement of another home that I owned, and I was very satisfied with their work which is why I contacted them again for this project. Everyone there is very professional whether it be the people in the office who handle calls and facilitate paperwork flow to the estimator to the people who actually perform the work. They were scheduled to removed asbestos tile from 3 bedroom closets as well as asbestos mica from our attic. We pulled back the carpet in two of the bedrooms and discovered that the tile was only in the closets. We wrongly assumed that this was the case with the 3rd bedroom, but unfortunately, this room had asbestos tile under the carpeting. We needed it removed because we intend on installing hardwood floors. Bluestone was able to complete the additional work, but it depended upon getting approval from Cook County to change the permit order. The Bluestone office acted quickly to get the approval so I was able to get all the work completed today. Will, one of the remediators, and his partner were exceptional. They knew what they were doing, were clear in their communication to me, were pleasant and respectful. I wish all contractors were this good.

I am extremely pleased with their work. They kept me informed of all the work they were doing. We didn't know how much water damage there was. They were completely open with me. The also cleaned up down the last nail. They were on time at 7:00am and very professional. I really liked that they spoke in layman's terms with me. I would use them again in the future as well as refer them to anyone.

They were prompt and pleasant and seemed to know what they were doing. The room was tested afterwards for air quality by another company (an additional $400 fee). Since the air was "clean" afterwards I have to assume they did a good job. I didn't contact another company so I cannot say anything about the price. They gave a 10% (?) discount because I used Angie's list to find them.

Found mold in my closet. Am told by the receptionist that it is $800.00 to walk in the door. Yes, they work with insurance companies, but I have to do all the calling; she cannot be bothered. I had a small amount (about 15 linear feet) of asbestos pipe wrap in a back room in my basement that I wanted to have removed. I called Bluestone and they were able to give me a quote over the phone based on my description, which saved me the hassle of having to meet them at the house more than once. They do have an $800 minimum fee, but this seems to be pretty standard for this kind of work. I was able to use the Angie's List coupon to get that knocked down a bit. The actual service call was quick. One contractor from Bluestone showed up promptly at the appointment time, explained the process to me and went to work. It only took about 90 minutes and he left the pipes completely clean and spotless and removed all the debris. I'm pretty sure I'm out of asbestos now, but if I ever needed further abatement I wouldn't hestitate to call Bluestone again.

I was very happy with the services of Bluestone, and particularly with Spencer. I needed some tiles tested for asbestos, and I contacted Bluestone. Everything went smoothly from start to finish. I leave for work very early in the morning, but Spencer was able to accommodate me and came over to my house at 6:00 am. He patiently explained me that I needed to also test the mastic from underneath the tiles, because that may contain asbestos as well. He sampled very carefully, constantly wetting the work area to make sure that no particles become airborne, should they test positive for asbestos. He reassured me that if I don't disturb the tiles I don't have anything to worry about, so I didn't need to test the tiles in one bathroom, even though they were 9" X 9", meaning that most likely they contained asbestos. Thus he avoided the unnecessary sampling, which would have increased the charge. He gave me an estimate for removal, but for unrelated reasons I may not do the work that required the removal of the tiles in the first place. I called him back with additional questions, and he answered all of them very patiently and in detail.
Description of Work: I was concerned about some tiles in the basement, on the staircase going to the basement and the tiles in one of the bathrooms. I called Bluestone to test the tiles for asbestos and give me an estimate for the removal should it be necessary.

Everything went beautifully, from the first call to schedule testing. Spencer came out to do the testing. He quickly extracted 2 samples, one from the material covering the pipes themselves and a second from the pipe fittings. Spencer detailed what the removal process would entail and informed me that there was also a county permit fee and a requirement that an independent lab do a clearance air test after the job was complete. The charge for the sampling and testing by an independent lab was $100. Two or three days later he emailed the lab results, unfortunately positive for asbestos in both the pipe covering and the fittings. Also included was a proposal for removal. I held off accepting the proposal to get a second estimate from another well-recommended Angie's List firm, but that proposal was about $1000 more so I called Bluestone to schedule the job. During that call it was arranged for them to schedule the clearance air testing as well and then we proceeded to confirm the cost. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the $100 I paid for the survey and testing would be applied to the job, something that was not known to me previously. The job was scheduled for a couple of days after the 2-week period necessary to obtain the county permit. I was called the day before the job to confirm the time, and the crew showed up on time and began the prep work. They again discussed what they would do and warned me that there might be some damage to a paneled ceiling that the pipes ran through. They moved small items they thought might interfere with their work and then covered all surfaces in the room. They also sealed the room they worked in and installed a pump with a HEPA filter to establish a negative-pressure working area. The job was completed within their estimated time window and the clearance air tester showed up a few minutes after they finished. After it was verified that the air was clean Vince, the crew chief, informed me that they were unable to clear one pipe that ran outside the area I had contracted. When he went to seal the now-exposed material, which would have been covered when the ceiling was repaired, he found that in fact the remaining material was only a very short section that was in fact accessible if he cut out a small section of a joist. He then did the additional removal and arranged for new air samples. Overall, though it can't exactly be described as a pleasure -- how could asbestos possibly be -- the experience was less stressful than it might have been, and should I ever need other remediation, or should my neighbors, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Bluestone for the job.

Bluestone Environmental was fantastic. Spencer came out both times and was patient while explaining what would happen both during the testing process and during removal if necessary. He worked with our hectic schedules and it was our good fortunes that we did not need any removal. Afterward, we began to wonder about the linoleum over the hardwood near the entryway to our home and so we called again. Spencer was happy to come back out, and he even waived the initial testing fee and just charged the lab fee because we had just had testing done. We were very satisfied with Bluestone Environmental!
Description of Work: We had both floor tile and two types of ceiling tile in our basement tested. We then asked them to return to test a small patch of linoleum in our foyer.
