Called Paul to come assess the sprinkler clock and see if it needed replaced, plus, the tops of two of the valve boxes had been chopped by the lawn mower and needed to be replaced. I asked him to go through the system and make sure the heads were not spraying on the house, and to check out one valve appeared to be seeping. He said the clock needed to be replaced and would be $125. He picked up the parts, and spent approximately 1.5 hrs putting the new clock on, and replacing the two valve boxes, then said he figured I could straighten the heads myself and handed me a bill for $430! You can purchase the clock he brought on line for $66, and the two valve boxes at Lowes for $35 and $11 ($112 total). I told him I thought he had overcharged me, but paid him anyway to be done with it. He called me back and said he had overcharged me by $40. Since he had not fixed the seeping valve, I said he could see if he could fix that in exchange for the $40. He called me back after having unscrewed the five screws on the valve and said it needed a new diaphram, but the store wasn't open that day so he would go back the next. Called me the next day and said he had replaced the diaphram, but it did not fix the problem. He said that since he had to go there two different days (his choice), I now owed him another $40 on top of the $430 I had already paid him, and, if I wanted him to actually fix it, it would cost another $100. I told him nevermind, bought the valve myself ($17), and replaced it in less than 40 minutes. I still had to straighten all the heads myself, and pay someone else to dig up the boxes he had put in and lower them, because he had set them about 1.5" higher than the grade. Bottom line, overcharged, underdelivered. He does not have a supply for parts so expect to pay $40 per hour for him to drive to the parts store everytime he needs something.
