They diagnosed the problem as a faulty oxygen sensor. The diagnostic charge was $108.00. They told me it would run without it being fixed, but the gas mileage would drop slightly and it could hasten the deterioration of the catalytic converter. They quoted me a price of approximately $330.00 to fix it which they did the next week. They are very busy, but they were very professional and even as a new customer treated me extremely well. Would absolutely use them again

This is the go-to service station for a lot of people in Kaimuki and neighboring areas (St. Louis Heights, Palolo). I started going here based on the recommendation of a friend who has done business with the owner for years. The service is very prompt and everyone is friendly and courteous.
One of the few places where you can still get full service when you go in for gas!
The people at this station seem to know every family that comes in. They're well informed and honest. Repair prices are reasonable. A trusted local business.

After a terrible experience over at Pflueger Honda where they told us we needed to perform a lot of (unnecessary) maintenance on our car we came to Kaimuki Auto Repair. They were super nice and professional, listened to us and gave our car a thorough check over. They told us exactly what may need to be done in the near future but insisted that we didn't have to do any of it right away and didn't try to push any services on us. They took time to explain any issues and were generally amazing.
I would definitely go back and recommend them to anyone.

They completed the work in the time frame that they told me and the actual price was a few dollars less than the estimate that they gave me. Everyone that I dealt with at the shop were courteous and professional. I will bring my car back to this shop for future repairs and service.

I had taken my car to Midas because the car squeeks. Work done were:
Brake pad (front), disc brake rotor (front), align/bal/rotate, oil change and brake flush. Total cost $787.40. After driving the car for a day, the squeek came back and the brake felt loose. I decided that I can live with that. However, a new problem developed. My engine light came on. I decided to take the car back to Midas and ask them to fix the engine light problem and while they're at it, see why the squeek is still present and check on the loose brake.
Midas kept my car overnight. I had to call them the next day to find out what's the problem. An hour later they returned my call. Diagnosis: They can't fix my engine light problem but I need the rear brake fix for an estimated cost of $600.00+
I went online. Checked Angie's List. Picked up my car from Midas and drove straight to Kaimuki Auto Repair.
Mr. Nakamura (the owner) patiently heard my story. Decided to check for the squeek and light problem by driving the car. Well, no squeek and no light indicator appeared. His advise was and quot;Take your car home and if the engine light comes back, bring the car in.and quot; I drove the car from Kaimuki to Hawaii Kai and back. No engine light problem. Later in the day, I drove about 2 miles on the freeway and the light came back on.
I took my car back to Mr. Nakamura. They later called to let me know that I do have a problem with my heating/cooling system. That the parts will be from the dealer and it will be expensive. I knew about the parts cost and that was to be expected. What was totally unexpected was their labor cost. I had expected to pay as much or more than the cost for the parts. Labor was inexpensive, approximately a third of the replaced parts. I'm a very happy customer.

I went to Kaimuki Auto Repair in order to get a diagnostic run and to check on a couple of problems. Alan, his family, crew are straight forward, honest, and a simple pleasure to work with. The friendly nature of the shop started with the first contact. My wife is not to happy about our garage area being turned into my own personal garage/tinkering workshop which I explained to Alan, I then explained the problems and repairs I did myself. Alan listened, talked story for a few minutes, and then said do me two favors. 1 can you bring the truck in before 7pm Monday or after 6 am Tuesday. 2. Write me a letter telling me the story of all the work you have done and the problems you are having. I was going in for a stuck Thermostat to be replaced and an ASB problem which I have been dealing with off and on for a couple of weeks. I also had an idea about one additional engine problem that I was aware of and putting off for a few days. Alan and his guys identified the 2nd problem right away, did a top rate full diagnostic. The guys in the shop called and said here is the problems with the engine. Which ones you want us to fix and which ones do you want to take care of on your own. They also called twice to confirm that I wanted to take the time to Do-it yourself work on my own. When they were finished with the work and told me to come in and get the truck Alan was there went over the fixes and the additional problems that I was concerned about had a solid diagnostic printout on my receipt.Alan then sent me on my way with a hand shake, a smile, and a see you out of trouble with the wife. Kaimuki Auto Repair is in my opinion one of the quiet gems that is the greatest example of ALOHA. This shop is one of those places that makes the me feel and quot;I Luck Live Hawaiiand quot;.

I was very pleased with the transparent way they do business. Explained problems, discussed options, and then carried out requested repairs professionally and as stated. Very pleased overall! I'll be using Alan and his team again and would be happy to recommend them to others.

Have Alan listen to your car (if there's a noise involved) when you drop it off. He can often give you an idea what's wrong just from the sound. He listened to our van when we took it in and immediately told me it was an engine issue he couldn't fix and then recommended someone who could. He was right; our engine had to be rebuilt. And all he did is listen.

It was nice to find a place that works on classic cars. They were awesome. I was surprised at the price. The price was very good. They do take a little longer. They have to order your parts.

New to the island, I went to Kaimuki Auto Repair for registration check-up. Alas, Las Vegas tinting was too dark, there was no mounting for front license plate - and battery was low. They helped me get all of these issues resolved, even when other companies did it, and were very helpful to a newcomer in how to go through the registration process. They also did some diagnostic tests at my request, at a very reasonable price.
They impressed me with their patience and attention, while maintaining a very active service. Everyone was working at top speed, but giving all customers full attention. They obviously have many long-time loyal customers, with good reason.

Alan accommodated me and my car in a narrow window of both our schedules to ensure my car was inspected...without an appointment. I actually had dropped by to set up an appointment and they took my car then and there. 20 minutes later all done. This is how Alan's team works - they take care of you and you car for a fair price. They are the sort of people you want to work with on good days and bad.
