My mother in law needed a contractor to haul 60 yards of branches, vines and other yard debris away from her property. My wife was on the property the day that Dan Scheidel, owner of D & A Contracting Concrete came by to provide an estimate for bobcat work. He seemed surprised that my wife was writing everything down (she is a Real Estate Broker and used to dealing with contractors). Dan quoted her $300 for a day of bobcat work, no problem so far. He also provided a company for us to call that would supply a dumpster. I was asked to call the dumpster company to obtain pricing, lead time, etc. The time came for Dan's services, I called him and the 1st call went good - he actually offered to take a second look at the job to provide a guess for the dumpster size needed, or if two were required. Then things began to take a turn. After a couple days with no contact I called but had to leave a message, no reply. I waited until early the next week and called again, this time he picked up. He claimed he'd been sick and needed directions to the job again, after a day he called back and said we'd need two dumpsters and he could do the job for $450! I asked about the $300 he'd quoted and he replied that was for "one dumpster" - contradicting what he'd quoted earlier. He said "he'd coordinate the dumpsters". Later that evening I conveyed the news and learned his quote was not provided to my wife for "one dumpster", but a day's work. After a couple days with no action from Dan I notified him that his services were no longer needed, he replied via text that he was sorry and confused because he was working for another customer with my same first name... The next day it got worse, he left me a voicemail that he was "at the jobsite and ready to finalize things so he could begin working" mind you, there was no dumpster there. I again sent him notification that his services were not needed, period. Later that Fri. evening he decided to call my mother in law to inform her, that "he'd be there in the morning". She told him in no uncertain terms that his services were no longer needed and hung up (still no dumpster there, and it was not going to be delivered on a holiday weekend). Apparently he thought bypassing me would help his cause. It didn't. We secured another contractor, paid more but received honest reliable service, something Dan Scheidel could learn from.
