The first thing was I asked him to call an electrician so I could get some lights put in the ceiling since we were doing work. He never called the electrician and went right to work on scraping and painting the ceilings with no regard that I was waiting on an electrician to come. When I asked him about that, told me that it was not his concern. Originally he said the job would take 2 months and after 2 weeks he said he was just about through. In that two weeks he had used the wrong paint and put up doors that he did not ask if we even liked them before he bought and hung them up. He just did not care about what we wanted or whether we liked what was being done. The clincher came when our ceilings started sagging after he had painted them and when we asked him what the problem was he said he did not know and that he hadn't done it and it was not his problem and he walked away from me. We called a Sheetrock specialist to find out and the problem was the flooding. He had not done any repairs to my ceilings at all. He only scraped and painted them. If we had not caught that within 6 months our ceilings would have been on our floors. He had no intention of fixing our ceilings. This is when we fired him. He had the nerve to say he didn't understand why he got fired. I showed him all the ceilings the wrong paint on my walls and that he didn't wait on the electrician to come. The week after I fired him he got nasty. He sued us for the whole amount that he was charging. We had to hire a whole new crew to totally redo my entire house. We were out of our house for 4 months. The clincher is that none of what happened was our fault. The roofers caused this entire mess. My biggest complaint is that he did not listen and that he did not use professionals to do our work, and tried to pass the buck when we found something wrong.
Description of Work: He was supposed to repair the water damage that was caused by a flood in my house that was caused by my roofing company. That included repairing the ceilings walls and floors. Painting the ceilings and all walls. Patching any holes in my walls from hanging pictures, etc. make sure the ceilings were okay since the water came in through my attic and down through my ceilings.

Response from Stateline Custom Builders, INC
I sincerely regret that [member name removed] feel that their experience with Stateline Custom Builders did not live up to their expectations; however, we did everything we could do to accommodate them. We are an ethical company with a very good reputation. [member name removed] was very difficult to deal with and in November 2013 we had to take legal action against [member name removed] to be paid for our work. It seems strange that although the work was done in July 2013, [member name removed] did not write this review until after the court ruled in our favor and we filed a garnishment on 4/2/14. [member name removed] wrote her review on 4/8/14.

I've had my home for 23 years. It is located on a tidal salrwater marsh & I have had to have many repairs done over thoese 23 years to replace & repaint weathered or damaged siding, windows, posts, rails, etc. James Cade & his team have done the best job that I have ever had done. The quality of the wood work, the paint, the brickwork, all exceeded my expectations. They came when they said they would, they kept the job site clean & they did everything that I asked them to do. The price was fair & I am completely satisfied. I would recommend that anyone in the Savannah area that needs these types of repairs done to contact James Cade of Stateline Custom Builders (912-665-1300) for his advice on the work & for a quote...

I was doing a kitchen remodel and wanted two walls taken out. I was referred to this business by a cabinet sales person, who turned out to not be efficient. (As were all her recommendations. I only used this one and probably shouldn't have.) I called the company and the owner came out and looked at the walls to be removed. He sent me an estimate which strangely was the same amount of what I guessed it would be. The price seemed fair. So I accepted him as the contractor. The business owner was not helpful in regards to providing information on getting the permit. As the homeowner, without a General Contractor, I had to get the permit but I needed the "subcontractor" (as he insisted I call him) to help me with explaining to the county inspector what work was to be done. He didn't give full information when the inspector called him (so the inspector said), which left it to me to explain something that I had no idea what information they needed or wanted, nor could the inspector explain. The inspector refused to give me a permit without proper info. Finally after a extremely stressful conversation with the "subcontractor" and nearly deciding to not even get the walls taken out to avoid the entire fiasco, the "subcontractor" finally stepped up and called the inspector and explained the situation. Miraculously, the inspector granted the permit. When I asked how many days I should call in advance for him to start the work, he stated 2 or 3 days. I'm aware that contractors' work fluctuates, so I would have been understanding of a possible week. When I called he said it was going to be the "week after next", which I believe was so he wouldn't actually have to verbalize "more than 2 Weeks". He said he had another job and he couldn't work that job when it was raining. I wasn't happy about it but I hoped it would be the beginning of "week after next". It wasn't. I called at the end of the first week to ask when he thought he might be starting... he said toward the end of the week and acted a little firm about telling me. I felt he was irritated and reacted as if I had no right to call and ask again. I had to coordinate many other contractors. Plumber, electrician, and the removal of cabinets. He didn't come until Saturday. It ended up being 2 1/2 weeks. Which pushed every thing back that far. Another issue arose when I had asked the owner, during the initial estimate visit, if I needed to provide the dumpster or if he did. He knew I had other demolition so he s tressed that he would provide a dumpster for his demo and I would have to provide one for myself. He showed up without a dumpster. He used mine. I asked him about it. My boyfriend ended up offering a trade of sheet rock work for him using the dumpster. It wasn't a fair trade. I paid $485 for a dumpster. He only provided probably $150 -$200 of extra sheet rock work. And there was a patched hole that really should have been a replaced with a half sheet of sheet rock, which there was plenty of extra to replace the piece. Then I had to pay EXTRA for some other patched pieces that he considered not his responsibility. The company is basically a 3 man team, the owner does all the scheduling, and there is a guy that actually does all the work with a helper. The employees did a great job. They were efficient and the work was good. The owner tries to not say certain things so he can't be blamed. Not very good business skills. He was not the type of contractor to step up and offer help to the homeowner. The outcome of the wall was good. The stress and lack of help from the owner was not.
Description of Work: Removed two walls. Put in a header on a load bearing wall.
