They were fine. It went well. I do not remember the cost of the service but I think that it was reasonable. They were communicative. I actually did not see the work because it was in a rental home that is not near where I live but I think that it went well. I think that I decided to go with them because of their ratings and their proximity to the house where I needed the work done.

Went well - they do good work and are high communicators as far as contractors go. We were not in town when the work was done and very pleased with the results. Changes had to be made along the way and they were very reasonable on working with us on those. I would use them again in a heartbeat. Fair pricing and nice guys to work with - they also had some good ideas on design that we implemented.

They did a great job. They are dependable, professional and reasonably priced. The only problem I see and that's not necessarily a bad thing is that it's a long wait on getting him to do work for you, but the reason I say it's not probably a bad thing is because that means they must be doing something right. Sometimes if I want the job done and they can do it the next day I wonder did they even have any business but it seems like they keep so much business because of the quality of work and the reasonable price.

It went well. I waited to write this review for a reason. When we moved into our 1918 bungalow in the early eighties, there was a flat roof over the back porch. It leaked. Someone fixed it--for a while. Soon it leaked again. Someone else fixed it. Yep, you guessed it--soon it leaked again. We installed a new, inclined roof over the back porch. Eventually, the new part of the valley started leaking. So we patched it for a long time. I decided that no matter whom I chose to install another roof, I would wait through at least one rainy Georgia winter before I reviewed their work. I chose Intown Craftsmen after narrowing down reviews on this list. Russ responded quickly to my query and came by shortly thereafter. We walked around the house, looked at the problems with the leaky roof and damaged front stoop. He obviously grasped the situation immediately. It was clear to me that he understands old houses. A few days later, he provided an estimate that seemed reasonable. I wanted work to begin a month later, so there was a 10% hold fee. . Work began in late September. Rainy weather caused a couple of false starts, but once it cleared, tear-off went really fast. The crew were terrific. Last month brought snow, ice and a couple of heavy downpours. So far, so good. Warm and dry. Besides, the architectural shingles just look so good! The front porch also presented some challenges. The wood was compromised from water damage not only on the surface, but on the joists underneath. Intown's carpenters removed the moldy, rotten parts of the substructure and expertly replaced them. All of the employees of this company who were involved in this project were polite and personable. Russ provided us with useful information for future projects, We're pleased with this company and the work they did for us.
Description of Work: Removed old roof. Installed underlayment. Installed flashing around vents, around chimneys and in valleys. Installed a drip/rodent edge around the perimeter. Removed all debris. Removed the part of the front porch and rail that was directly in front of the door, as well as a small area of floor just inside the door. Put in a framework underneath to support new tongue and groove flooring. Added new threshold. Added new rail. Stained inside part of new flooring to match interior, outside to conform to exterior. Installed gutters at the angle of roof over the front door. Added a downspout. Removed debris.

Luke and his partner were in and out over the course of two days, and did an excellent job of taking care of the work and the clean-up.
Description of Work: After an initial problem getting put on the work schedule, everything went perfectly. Intown Craftsmen patched 10 areas in my living room ceiling after an installation of recessed lighting, and finished by painting the entire ceiling including the kitchen for continuity. They also primed and painted the bathroom ceiling stained by a leak.

Russ and Luke were superb to work with and I cannot recommend them enough. My husband and I needed some repairs and work done to our recently purchased 85-year-old house and Intown Craftsman were awesome. From the first consultation to scheduling the work to the guys who came out in the freezing temperatures to get the job done - they were fantastic. We'll be using them again for sure! A++

I contacted Russ Melton regarding the roofing job In-Town Craftsmen did for me a few months earlier. He indicated he will have the shingles secured better and asked to be sent a reminder. During the ensuing four weeks there was not a single response to my reminder e-mails and voice-mail messages. Indeed, he never took my phone calls. Only after I e-mailed him that I was going to-revisit the review I gave him on Angie’s list, he sent me a belated message that they needed the temperature at 45 degrees or above. There were many days earlier during the period where the temperatures were in the fifties. Also, I found out that the charge was unconscionable.

Response from Intown Craftsmen
This review is not accurate. We supplied 7.5 man hours and $68.00 in supplies to repair a section of roof that failed after this client had a fallout with his builder. We charged $400 which he agreed to before we started. Another contractor came in and convinced the client this was too high of a charge. When we were contacted about a loose shingle we tried to schedule after temperatures were acceptable to install shingles. We have tried very hard to please this client.

I called Russ Melton at Intown Craftsmen while I was trying to close on a house - the appraisal was contingent on having some peeling trim painted, and I had to get an estimate from a licensed and insured contractor immediately. Russ returned my call within minutes, and gave me the written estimate the same day. The quoted price was great, and I liked the fact that he was willing to come out for a single smallish job. After closing, I called again about some additional work, including painting all the exterior trim and doors, and removing some ugly roll-down storm shutters and repairing and painting the siding around those windows. Russ was great to work with - he's friendly, he knows what he's doing, he returned my calls and texts quickly, and he spent a long time answering all my questions. He also took the time to give me advice on a couple of small projects I decided to tackle myself, and he was very helpful and encouraging. There was no pressure and I never felt like he was trying to sell me work I didn't need. His prices for the jobs he did were very reasonable, and I'm so glad now that I went with Intown Craftsmen and had the exterior painting and siding work done. Everything looks great! All the workmen were polite, friendly, and accommodating, worked quickly and did a great job, and cleaned up after themselves. When things came up (like rotten wood discovered in a couple places), Russ contacted me and sent pictures, and made it very easy to resolve the issue and get moving again. He also did not gouge me for the unexpected costs, which I really appreciated. Once when I was not entirely happy with how something came out (I'm pretty picky), Russ had it re-done to my satisfaction with no questions asked. I got everything I paid for and more - I definitely would recommend Russ and Intown Craftsmen for any handyman or renovation job. I'm already thinking about those kitchen cabinets ? and the floor refinishing ? and maybe that bathroom ? Thanks Russ! See you soon!

I read reviews on this website before calling Russ to schedule an appointment for a quote. Russ was very responsive in the beginning and came out on Christmas Eve. That's what the promptness ended. I was told I would have a quote within a couple of days. It took 2 weeks and constant nagging to finally get the proposal back from Russ, and the work listed was not correct and what we talked about. I contacted Russ immediately asking for a correct quote and I have yet to hear back from him. It is disappointing because he seems like a nice guy and the people who have had work done by him seem to be happy. But I cannot deal with no communication. I simply can't understand why he would come out and waste his time giving a quote if he was not interested in trying to earn the business.

Russ was great fun to work with; he is very enthusiastic and was very committed to the quality of the work to make sure everything was done exactly right. His team was very competent, reliable and professional; they were very accommodating to all my requests. I had a number of different types of jobs to do at my house, and they were able to complete everything just how I wanted it. I was out of town for the first few days of work, and Russ oversaw the work and kept me updated on their progress while I was away. Russ and his team are very committed to providing the highest quality work and completing everything according to the client's satisfaction. I will definitely call them again in the future!

Approximately a month ago I called Russ to schedule a time for him to come to house to give me a quote. I reached him immediately by cell and he seemed responsive. He told me that he was too busy that day, but would by in the next several days to quote the job. He mentioned that it was close by, so that it wouldn't be a problem. He also asked that I send him an email with the job details so that it would be clear what I wanted done. A week later when I had not heard from him, I emailed him again to see if he had an opportunity to go by the property. I didn't hear back from him until the end of the week when he emailed me to tell me that he would be out to the property soon because he was "slammed." Now, nearly two weeks later, I still have not heard from him. Not even an email, apologizing for the delay. After almost three weeks of waiting to get a quote, I called someone else, who was out the next day. It would have been nice if he had let me know he was too busy for the job, rather than wasting my time and ultimately delaying work I needed done.

We'd had some problems with mold since we got new windows a couple of years ago. After a period of heavy rain this summer we had mold in a few of our kitchen cabinets. We though we had a leak somewhere in the kitchen and called Russ to help us remove some of the cabinets to find the source of the leak. He said we had no leak but problems with humidity. He spent an hour giving lots of valuable advice, not just for dealing with the humidity but also other areas such as painting and insulation. He charged nothing! We will definitely call him again.

The finished product was excellent - from the exterior the house looks new and many neighbors said how great it looks. The workman were quite professional, a wide variety of skills, responsive to all requests, and cleaned-up daily, We have done many projects over the years and this is one fairly major job where we can make the most unusual statement that "We had no complaints and were quite satisfied."
Description of Work: We have a 1930s Decatur, Ga bungalow that had been updated some years ago, but now sorely needed a top to bottom clean-up/fix-up. Services provided included interior painting and exterior painting of trim, chimney, shutters, windows, including replacement of rotten wood, patching etc. Front door and portico were removed and soaked to remove 20 coats of paint, then refinished and installed. We have a situation where we could potentially have some flooding get into our house because of the way the adjacent property has been altered. We were looking at what we could do to protect ourselves so we were looking at some alterations that we could make on the house and the property to be able to affect that. The price that they quoted to do all the work that they suggested was around $26000. We were going to pursue it with other companies and kind of asses how they think from that but we did not end up pursuing it. Russ Melton the guy who came out seemed knowledgeable, he was professional, punctual and we did not have any issues with him. His quote seemed reasonable but we have nothing to compare it to since we did not pursue other quotes so I am not sure.

This is the husband......you met with both of us on above stated date, maybe for 30 minutes! Like my wife said you were a no show last year and most of your contact was with her. You stated you would email us a formal estimate and never did!
Description of Work: I had contacted Russ last year for same project, build-out of garage to create an office, but he ran in to some issues regarding missing initial appointment, no show; then a mishap of falling off a ladder, totally understandable, no show again. We got involved with other contractors regarding additional jobs needed around house and put off this major job until this year. Called Russ again for quote, but decided to put office up in attic of home vs. over garage. He came out on 3/4/13 and pretty much talked us out of using him, maybe just didn't want the job!? He gave a ball park estimate of $75 - 95K, but suggested we don't trust anyone who would do it for less than $45K????? We never got a formal quote either. It was an odd experience.

Russ and his team are absolute professionals. The living room in my condo in Buckhead had experienced major water damage due to 10 months of neglect by the HOA in repairing a roof leak. As such, my ceiling was left with a large section of destroyed drywall, as well as some mold damage to the underlying structure. In addition, a 6'x3' section of plaster wall had been significantly damaged, and an interior light fixture had been damaged. Russ provided me with an honest assessment of damages, as well as an estimate for the cost of the entire project upfront. He explained exactly what his team would do, answered questions in an open and honest manner, and in general was direct and to the point from beginning to end. I did not in any way feel gauged. Russ' team was careful to cover all of my furniture; drywalling naturally creates a lot of dust, so they were very careful to ensure everything was well protected. The guys did an tremendous job replacing the drywall and repair the plaster damage. They even matched my paint color, and repainted the entire damaged area, and the entire ceiling. I had some unrelated damage to my entry door, and Russ offered to install a new entry door as well as paint it at no additional charge. I unreservedly recommend Russ Melton and Intown Craftsmen for any of your handyman or contracting needs.

Intown Craftsmen represents an intelligent choice in home improvement. Russ Melton, owner, and his team are professional, accommodating, and skilled. Russ accommodated my schedule coming late in the evening to meet us and view the job. He offered fair pricing and a work schedule that proved to work for everyone. His team came on time, worked diligently and checked in along the way to get approval as the items on the 'punch list' were completed. The touch-up painting, carpentry (repair of hand rails on stairs), electrical work (outlets grounded, 3-way switch repaired, dishwasher wiring repaired), and finishing work were all done to complete satisfaction. Although there was no plumbing involved in this job, Russ has a complete staff of tradesmen to cover any need in home improvement. Russ guarantees his work. If there were any questions about a task detail, he made the changes to meet the expectations of his customer. Russ also provides a wealth of information for 'do it yourselfers.' He provided and explained the use of an electrical outlet function tool. He provided referrals to engage other professionals and to secure materials. I chose Intown Craftsmen based on feedback from customers who had done major renovations with this company. For Russ, no job is too small because my list contained several small items that were big problems for me. I have complete confidence in this company and will call them again for work to be done in the near future.
Description of Work: The punch list of repairs-- -touch-up painting throughout house (4400 sq.ft.) -electrical outlets were not grounded -threshhold repair to remediate gap -leak in shower required caulking -kiltz and paint ceiling on lower level caused to leak in shower -repair pantry doors that did not close -repair wiring on dishwasher -repair 3-way switch that controlled kitchen lights -install shower hardware and grab bar -repair hand rails and sheetrock on two stair cases DIY explanations: -sort and identify paints -taught use of electrical outlet function tool -gave suggestion about remediating ripples in hardwood floor

I took time off from work to meet with Intown to ask for an estimate for 4-5 projects around my house, including replacing a screen door, hanging window treatments, and painting. The owner came to my house and seemed competent and interested in the work. He agree to write up a price quote and send it to me, but I never heard from him. After a week, I called him about the price quote, and he responded that my job "had slipped through the cracks," and he would get a quote to me right away. I never heard from him again. It was a big waste of time.
