This place is terrible. They put a seam in my white kitchen island that turned black almost immediately. There was no need for a seam there, and I wasn't ever notified they would be cutting my counter in half for no reason, but that's just how this place works. They also tried to patch and hide chips all over the counter, but they couldn't even do that properly so now there are visible chips on my counter. Look at the attached pictures for the type of quality you'll get from this place. I'm pretty sure they couldn't have done a worse job, so I would recommend just about any other stone fabricator in the Tampa area. Your mom could probably do a better job than this place.

I used them in July 2014. They came to the house and asked a series of questions but there was no real paperwork. They asked about fixtures for the bathrooms, and there were different fixtures in the master suite and the rest of the house, and they cut the granite for fixtures the same around the entire house. So when the plumber came back to put all the fixtures in I had to change my faucet selection for my master bath and they didn't anything and I had already paid them, I found it the next morning. They wouldn't do anything to help. There solution was we could plug the hole and redrill. It was like a pretty big deal for me. I see it every day and I'm like "UH!".
Description of Work: They did marble & granite/counter tops. They did all the granite through out the house.

They were recommended by a family member. I had an excellent experience. Their prices were reasonable. I thought their installers were professional. I felt like they answered all the questions that we had regarding various types of granites.

Based on the recommendation of a family member, we chose Athena. Our initial contact person was Greg and he was friendly and professional throughout. Once I chose my granite, our counters were installed in a week. They are beautiful and we couldn't be happier.

After the installation of the new countertops, I checked under the sink and noticed that there was no bracing to support the weight of the sink. I was told by Jerry that no bracing is ever used on the sinks that Athena installs and that they never have problems. He described the way that the undermounts are installed, using a high-strength epoxy in conjunction with a silicone sealant. He told me there was nothing to worry about. I waited 24 hours and installed the disposal and plumbing. Within 15-20 minutes, the sink had pulled away from the counter, leaving a ring of clear silicone sealant attached to the underside of the countertop. I could tell that there was no epoxy there and that silicone alone had been used to hold up the sink. Jerry said he couldn’t send anyone to repair the sink until Monday, leaving us without the use of a kitchen sink over the weekend. Athena did not offer to pay an installer overtime to fix it, nor was any offer of compensation made. I had to prop-up the sink as best I could and wait for someone to come out Monday. Athena sent Hector, one of the two original installers, to re-install the sink on Monday.Hector told me the sink had failed because they didn't use bracing and that epoxy is used to secure the counters to the cabinets but not used on the sink, that a silicone sealant is used for that purpose. “I guess the sink with the disposal was too heavy for the silicone,” he said. I pointed out that all kitchen sinks have disposals attached, that they saw my disposal when they did the install and that the installer even told me to have the plumber bring a new drain collar when he came to install the disposal. The installers knew the bond would have to support the extra weight of a sink + disposal, and yet relied on a product that was not strong enough to support that weight. I called the office again, and was told that they must have used a bad batch of epoxy, even though it was clear there was no epoxy used at all. He told me that epoxy and silicone sealant are the same thing, that silicone sealant is strong enough to hold up a sink and disposal, though that's utterly false. Everyone I talked to told me a different story about how the sink should be installed and what had gone wrong. I was without a sink for days, Athena lied to me repeatedly, offered me no financial compensation, and didn't respond to my letter of complaint. These people are unprofessional, don't know what they're doing, and at the end of the day don't care if their customers are happy or not. I have checked dozens of sites online. The standard install advice for an undermount sink is to use an epoxy in addition to sealant and in conjunction with brackets or braces. The install instructions that came with the sink that they sold me specify the use of metal brackets, which were apparently included with the sink but not used in the original installation.
Description of Work: Old countertops were removed. New granite countertops were cut and installed. An undermount sink was installed.

Response from ATHENA GRANITE & MARBLE INC
Upon arriving at the homeowner's house and starting the removal process of the old countertops, we discovered that the existing cabinet walls had already been cut out and our standard way of mounting the new sink would not work. This is something that we could not recognize until the existing countertops had been removed. Unfortunately, both installers thought that the other one had used the epoxy in conjunction with the silicone, when installing the sink and it was not done. This took place late on Thursday afternoon. The customer was not to reattach the plumbing until 24 hours later, which would make it late Friday afternoon. Saturday morning, not Friday morning as the customer stated, we received the message that the sink was becoming detached. Jerry returned the call as soon as he received it. The only person working was Jerry - in the showroom, as our installers do not work weekends. First thing Monday morning, Hector, one of our installers, returned to the home and fixed the issue. Concerning this complaint: What ever happened to letting us come back and fix a problem before threatening us with Angie's List and the Better Business Bureau? We went out there as soon as we could! We fixed the problem as soon as we could! Have they had any more problems? No! Was it our fault that the sink fell? Yes. And we are sorry for that, but we fixed it as soon as possible. We will gladly refund the customer $150.00 based on the lack of communication on our part, and the additional two and a half days that he was without a sink. - Scott Tranum, President

I paid for the premium grade granite counter top. I ordered a half-bull-nose edge finish. I went to the showroom location twice to make sure everything went well. When they were installing the counter tops I noticed that it had the wrong edge. The installers insisted it was correct. The next day I went to the website and verified it was incorrect. I called and spoke to Jerry who said that the people that finished it and the installers said it was correct. I traced the profile of the actual stone and emailed it back along side of the profiles on their website. They still insisted it was right. I demanded that they correct it. That meant they came out and had to hand grind it in place. It was a mess and the owner still insisted it was correct. He did finish it to the correct edge after a long angry confrontation. One piece of counter was cut 1/2 inch short so I had to bulid out the wall the correct it.

The member, verified by his own admission above, verbally selected the half bullnose edge detail while in the showroom. Unfortunately, although he took a copy of Athena's forms home with him, he never signed or returned them (Athena however, did not hold up his project and installed in a timely fashion). When we installed the granite he called saying he received the wrong edge - our fabricator and installers all verified we did in fact fabricate the half bullnose. He described the edge he wanted...the demi bullnose (different for the half bullnose). Athena's owner personally spoke with him, explaining he did receive the edge he asked for - the half bullnose. He refused to come back to the showroom to look at the half and demi bullnose edge samples we have displayed and labeled for customers to select from. Although he did not pay for the demi bullnose, we did re-fabricate his granite to the demi bullnose at no cost (the edge work had to be done on site - in the pouring rain). He also received a military discount on his total order when it was originally placed with Athena Granite. We feel we did everything possible to accommodate him, although he wouldn't sign our forms or return to the showroom to verify the edge we did fabricate for him. Athena Granite was honest during the entire process (as always), we accommodated his edge desire, and he received a discount - he received a quality product at a fair price.

I had a very good experience with this company. They gave me a lot of information on stone and options for choosing granite. They were very accommodating and worked with the stone yard. The installers were polite and professional. I would highly recommend them.

I think the people at the yard tagged the wrong stone when I picked what I wanted. I called to tell them I picked my stone and they did not act on that. They did not call the first day to make sure it was the right stone or reserve it. They did not act in a logical and efficient way. There was a delay and they blamed me for the delay. I feel like he left me hanging. There was poor communication between them and the customer. Then they said I had to go to another yard to pick a stone. They didn't have what I wanted. I did finally find the stone. I called them and they never returned my call.

UNFORTUNATELY THIS MEMBER HAD SOME MISCOMMUNICATION WITH ONE OF THE LOCAL GRANITE SUPPLIERS THAT WE SENT HER TO IN THE SELECTION OF HER MATERIAL. ALL CUSTOMERS MUST PERSONALLY PLACE THEIR SELECTED MATERIAL ON HOLD, THEN NOTIFY US TO ORDER THE MATERIAL. THIS IS WHERE THE MEMBER'S CONFUSION OCCURRED. MEMBER VISITED SEVERAL MATERIAL SUPPLIERS AND WAS UNDECIDED ON MANY CHOICES. BASED ON THIS, THE MEMBER CANCELED THE ORDER AFTER ALL TEMPLATING WAS COMPLETED BUT NO MONEY HAD EXCHANGED HANDS YET(DEPOSITS ARE ONLY TAKEN ONCE THE CUSTOMER ACTUALLY SELECTS THEIR MATERIAL).

They were pleasant, professional and experienced. I liked working with them better than the big home improvement stores, and they also gave me a better price. Their communication of answering questions and returning calls was excellent with one small exception that was later cleared up. They were able to do business long distance by fax and email. The only travel I had to do was go to Tampa to view the granite slabs and pick out the ones I wanted to put on hold for my job. They worked amazingly fast. The entire job was done in two weeks, start to finish. They were clear about not doing related plumbing and electrical work so I had to hire a handyman to complete that.
Description of Work: Athena Granite measured and installed new granite countertops for the kitchen in my condominium. They tore out the existing Formica counters. They cut out the hole and mounted an undermount sink. Their office personnel gave the estimate and worked closely with the field personnel who did the blueprints and installing.
