ABOVE THE REST PAINTERS

We found Above the Rest in Angie's List. Called Fred and he came out and gave us an extremely reasonable estimate to perform the work. Fred and his team showed up right on time on scheduled day and power washed the exterior including the driveway and walkway (walkway and driveway look terrific). The next day, they came and did the rest, painting two coats of terrific grade of paint (one of the tops in Consumer Reports). We are extremely happy with the job Fred and his crew did. We will recommend him to everyone.

From start to finish working with Fred was hassle free. He was prompt and he and his crew did fantastic work. Everything was cleaned up after the work was finished each day. We had some bubbles show up a week after they were finished. Fred came out to take a look and sent his crew to the house the next day to re-prime and paint the area.

My husband found Above the Rest on Angie's List of course. I was ready for a color change in most of the rooms in our house; we had 3 rooms (master bedroom, kitchen and living room) and all the hallways painted in our 3 story townhouse. Fred came over for a thorough estimate, and was really flexible with helping us fit all the services we wanted into our fixed budget. He even beat a competitor's price although the competitor was shady; but he kept his word. He also offered to help us choose colors although we ended up picking ones out on our own. We scheduled a date and then had to push back last minute, but he fit us in as soon as we were ready which was a week later. Yesterday was "paint day" and it could not have gone smoother. Fred's brother (he was just here yesterday and apologetically cannot remember his name!) led the team and they were all here promptly at 9am sharp. I was under the impression this would be at least a few days job and it ended up completed by end of day! There were at least 5 painters here, all polite and courteous to my work schedule (I work from home). The colors we picked were from a different brand and had to be matched to whatever paint brand Fred's team used, but the color match was perfection and to a T what I wanted. The colors and trim look amazing, it looks like a brand new house. They were very careful with all the furniture and moved it all back into place when done; we did not do one bit of lifting a finger except move counter items out of the way. They even surprised us by replacing one of our light switch panels b/c one of the pieces on it had broken a while ago, as a courtesy. At the end he wanted to make sure we had more than enough walk-throughs to make sure we were thoroughly satisfied, which I was. We paid on credit card which was a huge convenience, too. Could not be more pleased with quality and service, would definitely recommend them as painters and also looking on their website it looks like they do a myriad of other services we will keep in mind if needed. Our experience with Above the Rest painters was excellent. When we called for an estimate we got a timely response and the quote was very reasonable. Due to some health issues that my husband had, it was necessary to reschedule and we were able to do that easily. They were very prompt with appointment times and the quality of the work was excellent. We received a follow up phone call within a few days of having the painting done to assure that we were satisfied with the quality of the work. We would highly recommend them and will definitely use them again.

Fred and Tony were great. Communication was excellent. Followed through and the house looks brand new. The house was cleaned and exterior was painted within a 24 hour period. The painters were very thorough. I highly recommend Fred and his experienced crew. Their quote for services was accurate and competitive. They also used the highest grade product available. I will definitely reach back out to Above the Rest for all of my future painting needs.

Fred and his dad Tony own and operate Above the Rest Painters. In quality they are above the rest but in price they were below the rest. Frank came out and gave a detailed description of what he would do in painting our house. He took a little longer than he expected giving an estimate a another house so he called us 15 minutes before he was to show up at our house to give his estimate...that was so respectful. One other person we asked to give an estimate didn't show up on the day he was to give an estimate...called a day later to reschedule. When Frank finished the estimate he thanked us for the privilege of being considered to paint our house. Fred also at our request used Sherman Williams Resilience paint rather than s Super Paint at no additional cost. One other highly rated Angie List Painter estimate was more than $1000 more and was going to charge extra for Resilience Paint. Fred and crew did exactly what Fred said they would do plus! Tuesday they power washed our house and got a lot of old loose paint off plus all the dirt and grime. Wednesday, They used a roller to put a seal coat on everything that was to be painted and applied a special crack sealer. They spray painted and dipped in paint for a second coat with a roller. When they finished Frank wasn't satisfied with a few places so he and the crew went over those places again. Fred thought one place needed extra work and when it didn't require extra work he was going to take $200 off the already low bid. Had to scrape and texture front entry ceiling...that was extra so he actually did 3 coats of texture and paint in this area...said it was a trade off for work he didn't have to do even though it cost him lots more in time and materials. Fred and crew also took down our 5 existing outdoor lights and installed the new ones we bought at no extra cost. When they finished they cleaned up their mess. We always get at least 3 estimates when we have a major job done. We had 4 estimates for getting our house painted. Fred's estimate was the lowest (one estimate was twice as much) and I believe we got the best job done...I don't know how anyone could have done it better. Fred also kept us informed on exactly what the crew was doing and showed us the paint and other material that they used. As I said at the beginning their name speaks for itself...I believe their quality is above the rest and for us their cost was below the rest. If you want a great paint job...I would encourage and advise you to call Above the Rest Painters. I could not have asked for a better experience. I normally do all my own repairs and maintenance and have painted my previous home before, but I just did not have the time this year. I decided to have someone do the work for me. I gathered three estimates for exterior painting of my badly weathered home before choosing Above the Rest. I spoke with Fred who came to my house the next day to provide an estimate. Fred showed up exactly when he said he would, unlike the other two contractors who left me waiting around. Fred walked around the home with me and showed me exactly how he planned to tackle the job, and I was impressed with his enthusiasm and honesty. Fred was also willing to use the Behr Premium Plus Ultra that I prefer, and he did not try to talk me into another brand (which he was wearing a shirt for). Although Fred's estimate was just a few dollars more than another painter, I was very comfortable with Fred and confident in his work, and offered Fred the job. He was able to schedule me within two weeks, which was exactly what I needed. He said the job would take two days. It was raining on the day the job was scheduled to start, and Fred called to discuss the situation. He advised he would still send a crew to clean the home, and his father (Tony) showed up with Mario and went to work on the house. Tony and Mario did a fantastic job cleaning and were careful not to harm delicate surfaces and aging soffits and screens. The next day had perfect weather, and Fred's crew showed up and got right to work. His carpenter/painter began replacing rotten wood while another painter began working on the trim. I had some errands to run, and was very comfortable leaving while they were working, which is rare for me to do. Upon my return, the house was almost finished and Fred walked me around to make sure I was happy with the details. I had made a last minute color change in the morning, and Fred had ensured that the porch was painted the color I wanted separately from the house color. At the end of the day, the house looked like it was new again and the quality of the work was excellent and detailed. His crew had worked diligently all day and it was reflected in their work. I will definitely call Above the Rest the next time I need a home painted!

From estimate to completion of job everything was professional & expertly done. This is a family owned business (father & son).Fred Ferrer arrived at our home on time & talked us through the process of cleaning, sealing & painting our home. He explained the difference in the products he would be using & why, the time it would take to complete the job. I had to postpone our original start time waiting to hear from our HOA for approval. He was so pleasant to work with & there was never any pressure to get the job. I had difficulty in choosing colors. Fred came back to the house & helped me with selections - so patient & knowledgable. His crew showed up on the agreed date & on time. His employees (they've been with him for years) worked so well together. Fred or his father were always here at the job site. When the men were finished, Fred checked & double checked the home making sure that there wasn't a spot missed. Before they left, they painted an interior wall for me that I had needed painted for some tAll I can say is, if you want the best - Hire "Above the Rest". Our neighbors have stopped to ask who did the work.

I own a few residential rental properties and needed to have the interior of one of the properties painted. My usual painter was busy with other jobs so I decided to look for another company. I called several companies from Angie's List, but ultimately decided to go with Above The Rest Painters. I dealt with Tony who was punctual, professional, and called to confirm the appointment a few times which made me feel good knowing that he was attentive. The estimate was fair and the service was great. I felt comfortable leaving the keys to the property with Tony and just asked that he call me when he finished. He called to update me throughout the project and finished on time, as scheduled. Everything was painted well and I was very happy with the results. Even as I drove away, I looked in my rear-view mirror to see Tony picking up trash in the yard to help cleanup the exterior. I will be calling Above The Rest Painters for my next project. Above the Rest Painters did an excellent job painting the exterior of my rental property. I put the bid out to 5 different companies and decided to go with Above the Rest Painters because they were competitively priced (not the most expensive and not the least) very fair pricing and actually what I budgeted for the project. In addition they would use the specific paint I wanted at no additional cost. Fred, from Above the Rest Painters was punctual, professional, and provided extreme detail regarding the paint job that would be provided. Fred explained every step of the process and followed through on every committment he made. After meeting with several painters I felt Fred was very honest and trustworthy which was important to me. I also felt they would go above and beyond to do a good job and not nickel and dime me for every little thing. In fact, Fred even suggested I paint the front porch a different color which would actually add to his cost. I was also on the fence about painting some black accents on some white columns. Fred painted one so I could see it and called me before he proceeded. As a result, I decided to change my mind and Fred repainted the column. I really appreciated the fact that he would take the time to paint one so I could see it and then decide knowing that I might change my mind. And by the way, they painted it great, the black accents just didn't work on the columns. It was that kind of customer service that did not go unnoticed and makes Above the Rest stand out. Fred really wants you to be happy with the final result. The team of painters were all professional, respectful, and courteous. It went perfectly smoothly!

I dealt with Fred, the company owner over the phone and via email prior to the job; however his father came to the job site to oversee the crew which worked at my house. They were very punctual, and did excellent work. They were also willing to immediately correct any concerns I had. Really just a couple personal turn offs in my experience: I felt as if I had to debate Fed's father about costs or services over details that were a part of the agreed contract. Portions of the Kitchen and bathrooms couldn't be painted due to plumbing repairs in progress. They instead painted some ceilings for me, but I had to keep buying more paint for them throughout the job and think I must've spent $200 in materials. They actually only brought 2 of the 3 colors that were negotiated, so it was on me to buy what they didn't bring. I felt like he kept badgering me about labor costs, and how much (or little) he stood to make. Also worth mentioning I felt that he treated his crew poorly. In general I felt Fed's father wasn't very professional. All said and done, they did a good job and deserved an "A" - bottom line; I was very pleased with their work, despite my personal feelings regarding professionalism. I would refer their services. I am new to the Sarasota area and several realtors i worked with told me that reputable painters are very hard to find in the area.

Fred Ferrer from Above the Rest Painting came out on Monday morning to give us a quote on painting the exterior of our 2 story home. He was prompt, courteous, knowledgeable and addressed all concerns and questions. The quote certainly met our budget and with the great reviews from other Angie's List members I didn't waste time getting other quotes. I had a good feeling about hiring them for our painting needs immediately. Fred even took the time to help me pare down the gazillion color choices available! I was introduced to the painting crew by Fred the very next day! Everything to be done was explained step by step and I particularly liked being shown the actual products, their uses and application. The painting crew was phenomenal! They were professional, friendly and hardworking. Their painting skills are amazing and our home looks beautiful! Fred, the owner was honest and very respectful. He supervised his crew which were excellent . They taped all the windows and areas that were not to be painted and did an excellent job. They cleaned up all the areas afterwards. The price quoted was reasonable and the service could not have been any better. It was a true pleasure working with Fred and his crew. We are going to ask him to return and do some interior painting in the near future.

Everything went well. The owner oversaw the job and made sure everything went through correctly. The rooms look great, and I'd highly recommend their services.

Fred did his estimate and was the most competitive of the bunch. He was able to start the job the following week where his team came out and pressure washed and sealed the home on Thursday. Then his team came back Friday and painted the entire exterior perfectly. They were very punctual and knew time was important do to the HOA deadline and limited windows of non-rain. We have a 2 story 2123 sq/ft home and his price was very competitive. He uses high quality Sherwin Williams Super Paint and the sealing is another product of Sherwin Williams for filling exterior cracks (special cement). The painting lines are perfect and professional... no paint on surfaces where there shouldn't be paint (ex. aluminum frame for the screened lanai and perfect lines where the paint meets the soffits).

Initially he thought it would be about a week or two before he could start, but I was able to get approval for the colors from the Community within a day. Apparently a few customers who were ahead of me were unable to get their approvals as quickly so the job was bumped to the head of the line. The work was completed within two day. After everything was done he asked me to come to the house and do a walk around to make sure it was satisfactory. I noticed a couple of spots that had been missed and they were immediately taken care of. I was very happy with the quality of the job and the timeliness of getting it doneI Update, 11/22/2013 I had another home painted by Above the Rest Painting on 11/19, my mother's home in Port Richey, FL that we are getting ready to put up for sale. Again, Fred and his crew did an excellent job at reasonable prices. We had been fighting weater, and forecasted rains, but he was able to bring in additional people to get the job done quickly. Same as previously, pressure washed, repaired any surface cracks, sealed, and painted, exterior walls and trim, and interior of the garage. Fred and his crew were curteous and responsive. I wanted to have a landscaper come in prior to painting to remove a vine, and Fred offered to do it for no extra charge. I would definitely use Above the Rest Painting for any needs in the future.

With how fussy and detailed I am, it is hard to find contractors that work to my standards. Above The Rest (Fred), is "above the rest"! He was with his crew for both days at our house. He did exactly what he said he was going to do. He made sure he kept us in the loop during the whole process and covered everything that was done in great detail. Our house looks amazing and I would not hesitate to have him back to do work inside as well, in fact I asked for an estimate. His price was so much more reasonable than the competitors I had give me estimates and he did not try to upsell at all. You won't be disappointed! I also appreciated the care he and his crew took with the plants outside as well as my fish pond. Truly an upstanding contractor and business!

Fred was by far the cheapest quote we received from all of the Angie's List Painters. However I didn't let that scare me away from using his company. I looked at his other reviews and didn't find anything bad about his company on the internet. We decided to go with Fred as I felt that he was a straight shooter and had the best value, he was also willing to use Sherwin Williams Super Paint for the same price he quoted me. Fred's crew did all of the pressure washing and prep work done on 7/30. Today 7/31 his crew started at 8am and worked all the way till 4pm non stop. They painted the entire home in one day including the trim work and front door. I would use Fred again. If your considering using Above the Rest you shouldn't think twice. Everything went as requested

My home is about 7.5 years old and the cheap paint the builder used was showing signs of fading. We also had some minor stress cracks in the stucco caused by normal expansion and contraction. I have meticulously kept up on the exterior cracks by filling them with caulk and painting over them over the past years. We decided to look on Angies List for a painting contractor in addition to getting recommendations from others in the neighborhood who have already re-painted their homes. I was happy to see the other recommendations on Angies List as well with great ratings. I called four contractors to give me estimates for the job. I ended up with three total. When Fred from Above the Rest Painting was about to hand me his estimate, he warned me not to be discouraged because he is normally much lower in price than his competition but that he treats each job like it was his own home and that he was very meticulous and detail oriented. Well, his price was much lower than the others and normally I would shy away from the lowest bidder as many would. However, I recalled one particular review on Angies List for Above the Rest that I read during my research that stated a similar concern but they went with Fred and his team anyway. The review was extremely positive and that gave me the courage to give Above the Rest a try. I am a do-it-yourselfer through and through and hate to spend money on things I feel I can do myself. However, I have limited time to do everything and decided this was something I needed to let someone else do. The other plus for this painter was that he was available to start in only a few days and he also stated he would get the job done in 2 days, where his competition was going to take four days. I was concerned again about rushing through this job, but Fred re-assured me that it was going to be a quality job. I also like the fact that Fred was not stuck on only using Sherwinn Williams paint, that the others seem to only use. I use Consumer Reports religiously for my major purchases and it has never steered me wrong. The Behr paint from Home Depot was rated very well and my father swears by that brand as well. Fred had no problem using this paint instead of SW and even recommended it himself. Now as far as how Fred explained in detail how he would paint my house here is what he explained: He would pressure wash the house not using bleach if possible (to protect the plants) and even threw in doing the driveway for free. If bleach were necessary he would wash the plants before and after and cover them as much as possible during the job. He would then apply a sealer to the exterior, then apply an elastomeric patch over any cracks and paint. He paints by spraying on a coat, then someone comes behind and back rolls the paint. The difference in how Fred does things from the others who say they spray a second coat, is that the person back rolling is actually dipping his roller in a bucket of paint and rolling with it, so in a sense you are getting a second coat. The others back roll by just using a paint wetted roller behind the initial spray coat to spread it in the stucco good. Well Fred showed up promptly when he said he would and did exactly as he explained. After day one, I noticed the ceilings of the lanai and front entrance were not pressure washed. I bought this concern up to Fred over the phone and he said he tells his folks to absolutely never pressure wash there because some builders use drywall for the ceilings and the pressure washer would go right through. If I were doing the job, I would have never of thought of that so Fred saved a few holes in the ceiling. After day two everything was done as promised and the workmanship I saw was outstanding. I couldn't find a paint spill anywhere, even on my paver lanai. Every paint line from trim to body color was a straight as can be and I could not find a flaw anywhere. I was truly happy with the quality and knew I made a good choice in using Above the Rest. There is a little more to the story that I should share. I had given the exact colors I wanted to use on the home to Fred. We were not changing the colors from the original so we had the SW color names and numbers from the builder. The only changes would be that we were going to use a satin paint and not flat and we were going to paint over the stained gutters, facia, and soffits with the trim color. Well, it turned out that our trim color was too close in shade to the body color and when we painted the gutter, facia, and soffits the same color as the trim, it looked like the same as the body color on the sides of the home (where no trim existed), especially in the shade. Something about not having the contrast of the bright white gutters, facia, and soffit made the home look dull. After many discussions with the wife, we decided we needed to re-paint the gutter, facia, and soffit a lighter color to get the contrast back. Now, I must share that when Fred was at Home Depot getting the paint mixed up in the colors I had specified, he had a questioning attitude about how close the body and trim colors were. He called me from the store before proceeding with the paint purchase and asked me if I was absolutely sure the trim and body colors were correct. I assured him they were. I went to SW and looked at the color pallet for my body color and tried several samples of varying shades and we finally settled upon a lighter shade from another color pallet that went well with our body color. I called Fred and asked for another estimate for re-painting the trim on the home. Again, he provided another reasonable price and He was able to come out a few days later and re-paint. After this time, the home looks awesome to us now. We have the color contrast back and Fred agrees we made a good choice. I know that if I were changing colors, Fred would have been a valuable resource in helping with the colors. He has been doing this for a very long time and I would recommend you use him in helping with your color selection, as this can be a difficult task to do if you are not skilled in color selection. I appreciate that Fred is part of a small, family owned business and provides an excellent and professional service. I will always support the small business owner over a larger outfit whenever given the opportunity. If you are in the market to get any painting done, do not hesitate to call Fred at Above the Rest.
