+ 1 moreI had an Angie's list coupon for the $199, my renter told us that her kitchen light would not work. Mr Sparky went to look at it, contacted my husband and told him that much of the electrical in the kitchen was not to code, and that the light failed because it should not have been used in the kitchen. The property had been renovated 4 years ago, so we contacted the contractor to come and make the needed repairs. By the time he arrived, Mr Sparky had taken off for another emergency... and took our light with him. So much for that .... we will have ourcontractor fix the issues. The invoice for this was $165.00- no work was done. The light was never returned to us. We had also made an appointment for Mr Sparky to hang some ceiling fans at our new home after we decided not to use him for our renter's issue. The last invoice for $165 was cleared up when it was determined no work had been done. Mr Sparky came, hung the two outdoor fans and gave us a proposal to replace additional electrical outlets and covers in the house, hang another ceiling fan, install a light in a bathroom, an entry light and dining room light. The estimate was over $1500.00. This seemed quite high, so we contacted another electrician, referred by a neighbor... the same work was done the same day for less than half the price.I realize Mr Sparky has an A rating, but really don't know why and..........will never use him again.

He explained the benefits of the whole-house surge protector, discussed the warranty in depth, and installed the device. Kevin is exceptionally professional and courteous, taking the time to answer all my questions. We discussed other electrical jobs pending around our house, and scheduled a follow-up appointment to work on these. I would definitely use this company again.

+ -1 moreI purchased the Angie's Big Deal electrical work package with Mr. Sparky. Their response was prompt, the electrician was punctual and very pleasant. My displeasure with the entire experience has nothing to do with the employee, this is a matter of company practices. I spent a total of $266 ($99 of that was the fee to join the "Mr Sparky Power Club....I KNOW BETTER than to do stupid stuff like that, but I did it anyway) for my five GFI outlets, in addition to the $99 I paid for the Big Deal. Seems a little pricy, but the nice man spent over 3 hours at my home, inspecting etc. I have an aging electrical box, and I was a little worried about it. Next thing you know I have an estimate for $5000 worth of work to update my service to 200 amps, new fuse box, permitting, etc. I was ready to set up a time for everything to commence when the nice young man asked for a 30% deposit. That's when my common sense kicked back in and I found Dennis Casey with Fort Lauderdale Electric, also on Angie's list, to get a second opinion. Long story short, Dennis replaced my faulty oven circuit thingy for $225. I don't need an electrical upgrade to 200 Amps, because I already have it, and the box I have may be ugly and old but it is safe. $2000 of that $5000 estimate is for the 200 Amp service I already have...that may be legal, but it certainly can't be ethical. Anyone want to buy a Mr. Sparky Power Club membership cheap cheap?? Thank You Ft. Lauderdale Electric. Semper Fi

+ 0 moreThe whole experience was very positive, for these reasons: he arrived as scheduled (even a little early as he'd said he might), did all the work and tested it, one thing had to be redone because I'd given him wrong info about my electrical panels, and he redid the work with a great attitude and no extra charge, described to me all the work he did and showed it to me, explained/showed me all the details, such as how I will know if the protector/arrester are tripped, told me of an option I might want to consider and did not pressure me to buy it, and the info was very helpful.

He said it was a light rain and he would take care of my problem right then. He installed a cieling fan and then did all the outside electrical work I needed done in the rain. He was very professional and did a great job. He explained everything he needed to do and gave me options. I was very happy with everthing he did.
Description of Work: Installed a cieling fan, removed damaged electrical poles/outlets and created a new outside electrical outlet with weather proof housing.

Description of Work: They were great company only the estimate they gave me for new high heads was way to high. They put a Mr. Sparky sticker on my electrical panel which I really hate. So advise for them don't do it or at least ask before hand. Besides that they were on time and did a great job.

+ -1 moreMr. Sparky came to the property and diagnosed the problem as a defective panel and stated I needed to install a new panel for $1500.00. The representative inserted a fuse into a vacant socket on the panel and shorted out half of the lines in the house. He then left the property without fixing the damage that he had caused and leaving my tenants with no hot water or power to the kitchen. He advised my tenants to go to home depot and buy some more fuses. The next day the rep called back and and gave me the phone number of a friend of his who would do the job cheaper than if i used Mr. Sparky. Fortunately I was able to get a reputable electrician out to the property who correctly diagnosed the problem as a faulty wire in the conduit under the slab. a new line was fished and the problem fixed for $332.00. Mr. Sparky attempted to overbill me by 400%, to perform work that was unnecessary, did damage to the property, left my tenants without hot water, and then refer me to an uninsured electrician. DO NOT USE MR. SPARKY

+ -1 moreThe technician ended up finding a floating neutral which could have ruined all of my appliances and my a/c unit!! He had me call FPL and gave me his personal cell phone to call if the FPL service person told me nothing was wrong. FPL came out right away and now I am waiting for more work to be done by FPL. FPL said that it was a good thing I had a great electrician otherwise it would have been disasterous. I will be calling Mister Sparky back and requesting the same techncian to do the electrical panel replacement and a few other electrical issues I need taken care of.

I wouldn't have a problem paying a bit more for reputable company to do work but this was a swing for the fences that just wasn't happening. These companies should know even though they may get a client to fall for it once and a while but c'mon.
Description of Work: Bought a "Big Deal" off of Angie's List, paid $99 for $199 worth of "Electrical Dollars" (not sure what this means) with Mister Sparky. Scheduled for appointment today. I have 4 landscape lights that I wanted installed along a walkway in front of my house. When the Serviceman, Ronnie showed up (on time), I explained the job that i bought the coupon for. I think he may have been hoping for an inside job because of how hot it was out there today (don't want to speculate though). He gave me a few reasons why this wasn't going to be ideal and continued on. He then did the whole "need to bring your wiring and grounding cables up to code" which i have read about this company doing (up selling). He then went to his van and said he would "work up some numbers and then explain how their pricing works." This was a red flag as I prepared for a BIG number. After 5 minutes, he came to the door, pulled out a big book with their pricing in it. He then started this whole spiel about this and that (not a good sales technique by the way) I want to know about pricing and he keeps building and building this up. I cut him off and asked for the "bottom line", he quoted $1244.00!!!! for 4 landscape lights in a front garden area. I couldn't have gotten him out of my driveway any sooner. I have been quoted $200.00 and $75.00 from local handymen, which I will implement. Read the reviews people, I should have done so before getting tied up with these guys. On Time- yes, polite- yes, dirty sales- yes, overpricing- YES

I asked for a recommendation on the kitchen light replacement. He made a recommendation which was very effective and economical. All of the task were completed in a timely and efficient manner. At the end he cleaned up all off the boxes and other items and disposed for these before he departed.
Description of Work: Install receptacle (outlet) for new oven. Remove two ceiling fans and replace one with a new ceiling fan and the other with a lighting fixture. Install new ceiling lights in kitchen

+ -1 moreTwo GFCI outlets in my kitchen were tripping up to five times a day and also at night. Since my telephone was on that plug I would be without phone service. I called Mr Sparky to get an appointment. The phone was answered by a pleasant lady who seemed genuinely concerned asked some questions and the appointment was made in a nice professional manner. I also purchased the whole house surge protector from the Anjie's List web site. The time frame was 10am to noon. Just after 10 am my doorbell rang. Fantastic, there stood a nice clean ,smiling, young man named Patrick. Patrick explained to me that the plugs usually have a life of 5-7years. The house is 6 1/2 years old, so that makes sense. He was neat and efficient and explained things to me. It was a very pleasant experience and I would highly recommend them to my friends. I have now found "my electrician" to call when I need one.
Description of Work: Replaced 2 GFCI outlets, tested all circuits on those lines. Replaced faulty smoked detector. Installed whole house surge protector.

The technicial put shoe booties on prior to entering my home and was very respectful, knowledgable and thorough in his inspection and repair. I knew that the smoke detector needed replaced and he was able to take care of that in mear minutes. He also replaced some light bulbs that I was unable to reach and performed an electrical inspection of my home and made appropriate recommendations which included pricing, which I suspected my home needed. I am VERY satisfied with the services performed by this company.
Description of Work: I had a smoke detector that was causing me problems and found a "Big Deal" for Mister Sparky that included smoke detectors. Took advantage of the deal and am very satisfied.

The average was 5 - 6K by reputable Electrical Service Organizations! This company was at the 12 - 13k mark and as such was a rip off! My question is; Why pay double for the same job that a reputable company would do?Answer: You wouldn't!

+ -1 more'He was ontime and was careful to cover his shoes-which I thought was a nice touch-but after coming in and seeing what had to be done said he didn't have the proper equipment to replace what needed to be done and would have to run back to the main office. I'd had plans for later that afternoon, and thankfully they were MUCH later as he was not back again for over an hour. He did the repair, cleaned the floor and I thanked him, only to realize later he'd never even taken the 2 old fluorescent bulbs out with him but left them sitting on top of my cabinets!

+ 0 moreI had been searching for a competent, reliable electrician for several years. Saw a pretty good deal on Angie's List for Mister Sparky and decided to give them a try. I had a large accumulation of electrical work to do. On 3/27/12, Kevin called and said he would be a bit late because his technician had a personal emergency (no problem at all from my end). On that day and 3/30/12 (when Kevin and technician continued), they proceeded to do an excellent, thorough, and professional job. I really enjoyed the fact that Kevin took the time to explain everything to me, a complete novice. Kevin did as he promised and openly adjusted the price as things were added, which was to be expected. I requested suggestions from Kevin about how to improve my home from an electrical standpoint. The high hats were his idea and were installed in a professional manner. I was so pleased with Mister Sparky that I recently bought another Angie's List deal from that company for a whole-house surge suppressor. I plan to have Mister Sparky back as soon as possible. Kevin also offered to repair my attic fan, an unpopular job that nobody else has been willing to do. I also have more electrical outlets and switches to be replaced as well as a new closet light fixture to be installed. I would have no hesitation to use Mister Sparky again. Please note that his prices were not inexpensive but I've learned that quality work always requires quality pay. Mister Sparky was worth the expense.
