He really just wanted to find things that were wrong with the door instead of just doing the tune up for the garage door. I did have him install some new rollers.

My garage door opener had been making a grinding sound, and then one day the door wouldn't open. I called Higher Authority because I'd used them before for both my house and a rental property I own. I was told that all of the rollers needed to be replaced. I said that I was pretty sure it wasn't the rollers making the grinding sound and was concerned about the motor. He said that with time, the rollers don't move as smoothly, causing the motor to have to over work. When I asked if I could just apply a lubricant to the rollers, I was told, " You COULD, but that stuff dries out and then you end up with the same problem and will burn out your motor." I was skeptical, but he's the expert, right? I asked what would happen if replacing the rollers doesn't solve the problem. He said they'd stand behind their work and repair it for free. I reluctantly agreed to pay $268 to have the rollers replaced. Later that same day (after repair was made) my garage door wouldn't go up! I didn't care for the guy who did the work, nor did I trust him, and tried phoning the owner of the business. An automated system said that my call was being rerouted to a technician in the field. That's how I'd gottent the repairman who ended up at my house, so I hung up and tried later several times, but when I kept getting the same recording, I finally allowed it to go through and sure enough, I got the same guy. I told him I was trying to reach the owner. He said he was in the hospital. I told him my garage door was still broken and reminded him about his promise to fix it for free if it wasn't the rollers causing problems. He told me that he would charge me only for a new motor but the installation would be free. He quoted me "ONLY" $375 for a new opener. I asked him what model of opener he'd be installing and he told me. I phoned 3 other garage door repair places and they were ALL less expensive than his price!! (And he was throwing in the labor for FREE! HA!!) The next day I had ACCESS GARAGE DOORS come out and they replaced the motor for $325. They told me the name and model # of the motor they were going to install when I asked so that I could research it online before they did the work. I will never call Higher Authority again. I only regret that I was never able to talk to the owner. I highly recommend ACCESS GARAGE DOORS.
Description of Work: Replaced all of the rollers. I don't think they needed replacing.

I had purchased a big deal for the service. They put in an new garage door opener, and charge me for that, which was fine, but I felt like they should have credited me the portion for their time.
Description of Work: They showed up and then charged me for a whole new garage door opener, and did not credit me the amount.

Would not recommend this company. My first experience w Angies List was not good. Since Angies List is still billing me a monthly service which I did not agree to, I was told I needed to write this review to cancel this service w my credit card company.
Description of Work: Good communication prior to service. I bought a garage tune up as my door would not shut without holding the button down. When tech got here he explained that is not a part of the service. Then I knew something was not right. All of the other times I had my garage serviced in past homes this was a tune up. He never touched my garage door, just looked up and told me I need new rollers at a cost of $125. When I said I wasnt getting new rollers he then said I need something else at a cost of X. I was not even listening at that point. I politely told him I just paid for and wanted a tune up and if he was going to charge me more to please leave. He left and never performed any service. I called ALLIED GARAGE DOOR in Pompano, who I used in the past and over the phone the secretary suggested I wipe off the sensors. That sometimes they get dirty causing the door not to shut. I did and that fixed the problem. I did call back the Angies List company and told him that it was just a dirty sensor.

The service worked out just okay. Ever since he was here, my garage door has not worked the same and that is not a good thing. Some of the screws came out. My garage door is automatic and sometimes when I close it, it reopens again. So, I would not use him again. There was an additional cost to the $49 Big Deal. It was about good $200 on top of the $49.

This was a very pleasant experience. The young man who came to inspect and repair the garage door knew exactly what was wrong, clearly described the problem, made the necessary repairs, and left us with a garage door that is not only very quiet when lifting and closing but also left us with a garage door that won't suddenly drop as it is being opened. We would recommend them to anyone.

I explained that the garage door seemed to lurch at times and that I was concerned it might damage the motor or the mechanism. He said I had a really good motor and that the springs looked like they might be newer. I said that I had the rollers and the springs replaced but I thought there may have been an issue, given the lurching I mentioned earlier. He told me to rub paint thinner on the edges of the of the garage door so that it wouldn't stick. He further stated that he would do it himself but that if anything would happen then it would reflect poorly on his company. So basically, I paid $39.00 for a 15 minute visit to tell me that my system looked good and to put paint thinner on the edges of my garage door. Not impressed.
Description of Work: Showed up and gave me a speech of what the $39.00 service was actually for. He said that it was an "inspection really" and that my garage door "looked fine".

Not Well At ALL. I really just wanted him to make the remote garage door openers work. I figured for $39.00 it was worth it and also an opportunity for the tech to review the garage door for areas of improvement. Just purchased the house a year ago and the hand held controls stopped working plus the door started squeaks/jerking loudly when opening. #1 My original appointment was for Thursday. (I had made arrangements to be home and available) Tech called and said his newish truck was not running and to reschedule. I said OK I was home all day today if he gets it working maybe he can come out later or sometime this weekend? He suggested Sunday and someone would be out. Fine I made arrangements to be home Sunday morning. Tech arrived on time Sunday but did not seem happy to be there at all. He pulled this metal bar out and stuck it in the springs. Not sure what that was for.. thought that made the wire loose and not tighten. Then the remote controls. He took them apart and showed how he was replacing with new batteries but they were not working. He suggested getting a universal remote control. I asked if he had one I could purchase- He did not have one but I could find one at Home Depo. The other hand held remotes were dead and would not work. His only recommendation on the garage was that maybe replacing the rollers would perhaps stop the jerking noise and the door would open more smoothly. I said so I can call your office and have that scheduled for another time? It was as if he did not want my business. I would have paid him right then and there to replace the darn rollers! I might have even purchased a new garage door system and he could have installed that day or made arrangements for another date. I went to Home Depo and purchased the last universal remote that they had on the shelf (Around $30) I also decided to purchase new batteries specific for the other remotes. I replaced the batteries and set up the universal remote. All the hand held remotes are working fine and I really did not need to spend the $30 for an additional remote. All in all better to call another service and get someone that knows what they are doing and wants the business. Waste of $39.00 Plus the $30 for the remote and my time to be home twice. Maybe if I was a rude person for him being late he might have treated me better? The only thing he did that seemed reasonable was not require the Angie's list printed coupon since my printer just ran out of ink that morning. I had it on my computer and phone to prove I purchased. I rate his professionalism a "C-" since he showed up for the second appointment and was not rude. He just did not want to be there. So anyone know a good Garage door service company I can hire to replace these garage door wheels or put in a new garage door opener?
Description of Work: I really do not know what he did.. played with the springs with his bar.

Serviceman was very pleasant and punctual, however it appeared that all he did was spray the spring with WD-40, which I could have done myself. He told me I needed new rollers, which is probably correct, but the price he quoted was almost $200. I found another service on Angie's List to install the rollers for $99, which I will use. I wasted the $39, but I hadn't read any of the previous reviews before I purchased it.. My fault.

Richard informed us that the rollers should be replaced along with a hinge. I told him that we only wanted to have the tune-up service that was outlined in the deal. He refused to perform those services without replacing the rollers. He then wrote an invoice stating the door was in really bad shape and inoperable. The garage door is operational. It does roll up and down. It may or may not need rollers but I would like to get a second opinion. I am really disappointed that he didn't lubricate the rollers or hinges, balance door, tighten hinges or make minor adjustments. He did not honor the deal purchased. Let's agree to disagree on the sequence of events. My door may make a noise but it does open and close completely. If I pay for a service I expect it to be completed regardless if you think it's a band aid fix or not. I paid for the band aid right.
Description of Work: Hire Authority Garage Doors contacted me to schedule an appointment after I purchased the deal from Angie's List. The technician Richard came out a few days later and arrived on time. He did not honor the deal purchased. He performed an initial inspection. After the inspection he informed us that he would not perform the services outlined in the deal until he addressed replacing the rollers and hinges. This lead to an up sell on services starting at 250 dollars and later reduced to 160 dollars. I did not agree to have these items replaced and asked to have the services of the deal performed. He refused and left without performing services.

Response from Hire Authority Garage Doors
It is my understanding when the technician inspected your door he felt a garage door tune up wasn't going to fix the issues. When door went up it made a loud grinding noise. When you went to close the door it traveled down a few inches and stopped it did not even close. To lubricate or adjust the spring would be like putting a band-aid on a broken bone. He was not comfortable doing a job he couldn't guarantee your safety. When he quoted the price he took off what you paid Angie's List making it $210 to fix door properly. At that point instead of just leaving, still wanting to accommodate you he asked what price you felt was fair. After checking with your wife you came back at $160. Checking with the office he was giving permission to go ahead since you are an Angie customer. At that point you still denied service. Tuning, adjusting the springs, lubricating, replacing the hinge and replacing all the rollers and you still felt that $160 was too much. I'm sorry you felt that we were out of line and deserved a D for that kind of service.

.The business gave the repair man the wrong address. The repairman called me and was here in 10 min. he went to work and was done in about 15/20 min. he left some small pieces of wire but not a real problem. (Very small pieces).
Description of Work: The $39.00 tune up costs a little more I guess. I replaced the 2 sensors (Might have been bad), but they were exactly like the ones that came off. No biggie. He lubed all rollers n wheels, adjusted the spring tension, adjusted the speed of the door, added a little fluid to spring assembly. The door is working better than it ever has. It doesn't pop back up when I try to close it. I waited a week to do the review to see if the problem still there, but its fixed. I'm happy its fixed and that's what we all want when we call these guys .
