I went with Georgia Carpet World of Bradenton solely because of its Angie's List ratings and recommendations.
On September 22, 2015, my salesman said that they had plenty of the carpet I chose. Several hours later, he called, leaving a message that not only did they not have the carpet but that the manufacturer was out of it.
So what I hoped would be installation during the week of my purchase turned out to be installation two and a half weeks after my purchase. Yet they posted the charge of $1706.93 to my VISA account immediately, so they enjoyed the money for two and a half weeks before I had anything to show for it.
After one week of waiting, I called my salesman, who offered no apology and repeated that he'd let me know when they got my carpet selection.
I went to the store initially knowing that they offered both an Angie's List discount and a senior citizens' discount. I intended to hear a salesperson's best offer and then ask for one or both of the discounts. However, when I did so, the salesman said that he'd already given me discounts in his estimate (never mentioning such to me) and that I could have no discount for being a senior citizen or a member of Angie's List. I guess I consider this false advertising.
After two weeks of hearing nothing from them, I called. Absolutely no one answered the phone--in a commercial business! I left a message asking the salesperson to call me back. He did not. Nor did anyone else. For all I know, no one ever got my message, which agreed to a Friday installation but requested two more points of information: When will the installer arrive? About how long will the work take?
I really panicked two days before what I thought would be the installation date and called George Carpet World again. The woman who answered seemed to know nothing about my installation date and said that my salesperson would be out of the store for the rest of the week. She said that she would call back. Instead, the general manager of the store called and answered my questions.
As for the installation: They arrived an hour after they called and said they were leaving for my house; the store is 10 minutes away. They worked until 3:30 p.m. when the head of the crew announced that they had to leave to do a job for a different retailer and that they would return in two hours to finish my job. Of course, I had to paint after the installers--doors, baseboards, furniture. They put a small dent, causing paint to fall off, on my new refrigerator. They couldn't find one of my tv cable cords at the end of the day: One of them told me it would be fine where it was during installation; the other "took it away." They did not cut three left-over carpet pieces into three foot sections as I requested. The next day they returned in the early morning and added a new coupler and cable cord, put a dab of paint on the refrigerator, and cut the left-over carpet pieces into three feet sections.
In all fairness, the carpet is well laid and looks very nice.
Unfortunately, the head of the carpet crew forgot to give me paperwork when I gave him my check. Nor did he give me any kind of receipt. I called and asked the salesman to mail me a copy; he preferred to email it. Later he called and said that sending the email had failed--even though I'd given him the exact email address. I called and asked him to try it again, and he did. Then the paperwork would not print. I drove to the store and asked for a copy of the paperwork and written details about the warranty. He said he had no idea whether or not the eight-pound pad has a warranty.
All in all, I find Georgia Carpet World lacking in client relations and less dependable than I'd hoped.
"Dear [Member Name Removed], Thank you for tacking your valuable time to bring this unfortunate, and unusual chain of events to my attention. Rest assured that your correspondence will not have been a waste of time, as I plan to use it in our employee training manual, as a text book example of how lack of communication, and follow up can ruin our companies reputation.
