Description of Work: Needed tile work done on a place I'm renting; I have used Altamonte Tile and Carpet before and was very satisfied with their work. The landlord changed her mind about having the work done. The staff was very courteous, prompt and professional; so many vendors won't even both with smaller jobs.

It didn't.
Description of Work: This man who says he's the owner is dishonest, unprofessional, and totally unqualified. He stated I had to buy a 2 piece toilet or else his guy couldn't install it. When I went to The Home Depot and talked with an associate there, he laughed and said, "This guy is a joke, because one piece toilets are easier to install than 2 piece ones". HE told me right away that obviously this guy doesn't know what he's doing. and I knew right then my signing a contract with him was a BIG MISTAKE.. He can sell you a job but that's it. He's just a salesman who knows nothing about remodeling, plumbing, or customer service. He not licensed, bonded, or insured, and called me a dog and an old hag. Nice professionalism!!! Don''t hire him when there are so many others who treat customers with respect and know what they're doing.

Dear [Member Name Removed] People need to understand slow and done right the first time than to be fast and not come out the best....You had tile ripup and a 12x24 tile very difficult to install and a shower remodel. And I managed to get your carpet in just in time for your family coming to visit. All in all it was a great job...Thanks for treating my installers with great respect. What they do is a hard life on your back and knees. Thanks for the great review Sincerely Robert Altamonte carpet tile and kitchens

I've used "Big Deals" before and I've generally been pleased. I had been planning to gut and rebuild our 1970-ish kitchen for several months, so I decided this was worth the risk. I did the layout myself and knew exactly what I wanted... in addition to the new cabinets and counters included in the deal, I wanted to have a window eliminated, a corner closet built, and two custom shelves installed. I was relieved that the job was acceptable and we agreed on a fair price. Originally I wasn't too enthusiastic about granite, but he had a sample that wasn't much more expensive than other countertops. I'm glad I decided on the granite, it looks great. In most respects I got exactly what I wanted. The cabinets in particular are incredible: thick wood box drawers, nice finish on the doors. The installation was top-notch. I've built kitchens before and sometimes they seem to drag out for months. This was done start-to-finish in two weeks, achieved mostly through really careful scheduling so the plumbing, electric, cabinets and counters were all done right on the schedule. I'm a stickler for details. I appreciate the fact that everything came out plumb and level in a home that has no absolutely square corners or completely parallel walls. They compensated for the flaws extremely well, so it looks great. I was and am a bit concerned about the quality of the granite. It absorbed water very quickly so I sealed it myself with a good-quality commercial product. That made the absorption less obvious, but it's still not as liquid resistant as it should be. My biggest complaint about the job was the final price. After the work began he called me at my work and said it would be another $120 to move a water run to the interior space in the wall to prevent the need to cut the run into the cabinets. That was fine, as was the issue with a higher price for the shelves than anticipated. But the final bill was sticker-shock -- it was about $900 more than the agreed price. A lot of things on his final invoice should have been part of the agreement, and some I wasn't prepared for until I saw the final bill. Some extra charges were, frankly, stupid.... I had to pay extra to have holes drilled for the cabinets (a simple job with their equipment but would have been a real pain in the you-know-what for me and my little drill. And it would have cost even more if they had actually installed the hardware -- I did that part myself rather than go more over budget. There were a few odd jobs unfinished, like replacing the quarterround, and a few things that should have been done better (the sink is not set correctly, so there's a significant gap along one edge that I will fill with silicone myself when I get around to it.) Still, overall I'm happy, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to someone else.
Description of Work: This was an Angie's "Big Deal" plus some additional work on a major kitchen remodel.

thanks for the great review, however i am a little confused concerning the comments on the final bill, each and every change that you made or added or unforseen prep work was discussed with you about the work and the cost of materials which you approved...sometimes i think people when people do changes...they just simply forget about the ending balance of that which is owed...this is why i go over each and every detail before, during, and after the job..i make sure you are completely satisfied before getting the balance paid...i personally made 2 trips to home depot to make sure you got the right size screws for the knobs you purchased after the job was complete... kitchen and shower remodels are the hardest to do because of the many details involved...i personally take extra care and time of what is involved to do projects like these...however if you are in need of something that needs attention...please let me know and i will take care of it.....but when all is said and done...the kitchen looks great and you wrote a very nice review and took the time for pics....thanks so much robert mello tile and carpet of altamonte

Robert called me after I sent email to company...we made an appointment to show up next week and was there on time, with a plan based on our discussion. Was able to show me exactly what I wanted and make an installation appointment that very week since he knew I wanted to get the floors installed before moving in. The work crew lead by Oscar showed up on Wednesday morning on time; began working straightaway and worked into the evening. Oscar was concerned that the quarter round trim was not going to match my base board color (which is bone instead of white)...when I showed up on Thursday morning I found Oscar and crew painting the quarter round so as to get it to match the baseboard color. Then they waited for it to dry before cutting and installing. The crew left some wood pieces for me in case of future incidents; they cleaned up the scuff marks on stairs and one wall, the were able to get the wood floors installed "under" the built in closet pieces so that I didn't end up with "cut around's" in case I want to take the installed stuff our of closet...and they were very nice and professional. Oscar is a credit to the company.

I went and saw Robert at Tile & Carpet of Alt. on Tuesday 5/7 to pick out some wood flooring for my living and dining rooms. He was courteous and knowledgeable. I felt comfortable during the process, never pressured. I picked out the hardwood and had it installed two days later. The installers were punctual, and finished ahead of schedule. I had a follow up call from Robert to make sure the install went smoothly and that I was satisfied with my experience. I would happily do business with them in the future. Thanks guys!!!

Robert, with Tile and Carpet of Altamonte Springs, and his tile installer, Jason, were a pleasure to work with. Robert came out first and saw the space, measured and showed us the tile we could choose from. He promptly provided us with an estimate by email and we scheduled the job. Jason and his helpers arrived as scheduled. They did the demolition the first day. They ran into some water damage (which they had warned us might happen since the house is so old) and explained the extra costs entailed. They were very fair about those costs. We had some rainy weather so the remainder of the service was delayed by a day, but it was finished up within the next couple of days. The workmanship was very good. We had a couple of details that we wanted changed - one tile was sticking out and there were a couple of spots where the grout had a few air spaces after it dried. Jason came out and fixed those issues and reiterated that we should call him if there was anything else. We are very satisfied with the job and we found Robert and Jason to be very nice to work with and very responsive to our concerns. We would recommend them to anyone who wants to retile their bathroom.
Description of Work: The shower stall was torn out down to the studs. The shower pan and some of the wood structure of the shower stall was replaced due to damage from moisture. New backer board was installed and the shower was tiled. This included the ceiling of the shower stall. Adecorative listello border was included and bullnose tile on all the edges where the tile met the wall surface. We also had the bathroom floor tile and the floor tile in the adjoining hallway removed and replaced.

Description of Work: I was very pleased with the work that was done for me. I wanted to replace my vanity top with granite and replace all the tile in my shower and around my garden tub. Robert was very professional and helpful and I enjoyed working with him in picking out my tiles and granite. Tom Settle, the installer, did an outstanding job of installing the tile. He was also very friendly and a pleasure to have around. Robert recommend I get my glass shower enclosure from John, who is with National Glass and Shower Doors. I would also highly recommend him. I am so very pleased with my new bathroom. It is beautiful and I have had many compliments on it.

We had a devastating event occur on Thanksgiving 2012? came home to find out the condo above us had a water leak and the water was pouring into our kitchen, dining room and living room, through soffits, light fixtures and air vents. In some areas the water was so heavy the ceiling began to cave in. Our laminate floor buckled and our kitchen cabinets and counter tops were ruined. We had to replace the flooring throughout the whole condo (bedrooms included), all the kitchen cabinets and counter tops, repair and drywall damaged ceiling and walls, and replace all baseboards and paint. We called several contractors thinking it would be best to get the work completed all at one time by one controlling company. Several estimates later, the needed work in our condo was pushing $20,000 and the insurance monies were not adding up. We then decided we would be our own contractor and get separate bids for flooring, kitchen cabinets and counter tops, painters, etc., and Robert with Tile and Carpet of Altamonte responded to our flooring quote request. Once we met Robert, and then Oscar, his Job Forman, and spoke with them in great detail on several occasions, their sincere desire to help us was so apparent and honest; we trusted them with all work that needed to be done in our home. YIKES!!! Well, that was the best decision we ever made. We are posting pictures because no amount of word praise could describe how beautiful our home looks and at a fraction of the cost. They went beyond the call of duty (I had to rent a pod and basically move completely out and they did all the moving into the pod and out) and every person who worked on our job was friendly, knowledgeable and considerate. Also, because we were living in a hotel during all this work, they worked long and tireless days to complete this work in just a little over a week. This unfortunate event ended up being a blessing because aside from our absolutely amazing condo, we now have two wonderful new friends in Robert and Oscar. Please trust them with your renovations needs, you will not be disappointed (SEE PICTURES)!!

The project started on Nov 16 and was not fully completed until Dec 10. The installer was delayed due to some personal issues and had to come in the evenings to make up the time missed on the weekend. The work he did with the tile was very nice he was also very professional. He started to re-install the glass frame on Nov 24 and realized he was not able to because the measurements had changed with the new sills and tile.Because Robert Mello the owner was out of town the installer put me in touch with Mac back at the store to discuss the problem.Mac proceeded to tell me that I should have been told that shower frames and glass can never be re-installed with a full shower remodel. This was never communicated to me.If it had been I would have gotten a quote up front and scheduled it to be installed ahead of time. I was very frustrated with the mis-communication. Mac stated he would put me in touch with the glass vendor on Monday Nov 26 but heard nothing. Apparently this was not communicated to the owner who had just returned on Monday. As soon as Robert found out by reading several of my emails and speaking to my husband on the phone he promptly offered to pay for the new glass and frame to be installed. We were happy with that. We had to wait another week for the glass and frame to come in and be scheduled for installation. A few disappointments, the new sills are not as wide as our old sills and we lost some shelf space although 2 small corner shelves were installed as part of the coupon. We had to ask that sills be changed out as the travertine patterns were completely different very obvious. I never saw the sills until after they were installed. One sill installed was too short as installer did not have enough material. So he filled in a half inch gap with caulk. We asked for that to be changed. The sills were not polished on the edges and corners were left sharp and ragged. We had a professional come in to finish all the raw edges. No one from the store came to our home to check the work being done. We did get a call or 2 from Lynn however I am not a professional installer so I have to assume they are doing it right. The only thing we questioned were obvious issues.Robert only communicated with me through email. He spoke to us once on the phones with my husband. It seems as though the personal touch was a bit lacking in this situation. Overall the job was completed. Robert paid for the mistake on the shower frame. I would have liked to see a little more oversight on the installation and to be told up front about the potential challenges with the glass frame.
Description of Work: They performed a shower remodel. The owner Robert Mello came out to give me an estimate. I was concerned about the amount of time for this project and the reason why I chose them is because I was told it could be done in 3 days. I remember that distinctively otherwise I probably would have put this off until after the holidays. In additionI was told that the installer would be able to remove my shower glass and frame and reinstall it after the remodel. So they tore out all the old shower stuff and re-tiled, new pan and travertine sills.

dear Customer: i do not understand want i am having to post another response.....however regardless of the fact that it took so long to do your shower due to working outside of normal business hours which is from 8-5 you did not want my installer in the house while you had to work..so he adjusted his time to work at night..from 5-8 cannot get much done in 3 hrs...that is why it took so long...when we discovered that the shower glass door did not fit...i called my glass guy..he made an appoint with you, measured, made your shower door which takes 3-5 working days,he called to set and appoint and of course again it has to be done after 5 ,he only does glass during normal business hours...so this took time to set up....now i understand that the shower glass not fitting back properly and had to get a new shower glass door..but you were getting a brand new shower door plus new glass sides of a cost to me of over $800.00..but you did nothing to help the process go smoother which took longer right from the beginning of this job..so to put this much negative in this angie's list report and not tell the whole truth is not right...i feel i did the very best even at a substantial cost to me to satisfy you as a customer..and still you feel cheated...if anybody should feel cheated it was my installer and myself because we bent over backwards to help in every way possible...i truly am sorry that you feel this way i remain sincerely yours robert mello

It was finally finished in full last week. It didn?t go quite as well as I?d hoped. I provided all the floor tile and decorative tile. He only brought out a few samples that were not in my color scheme so he sent me online to pick out my own tile. By the way - picking colors online is extremely hard. I ended up purchasing them at a lower price than he could provide. He did provide the wall tile however & did give small credits for materials that I purchased on my own. First I want to say, the gentleman who did the work was a great craftsman. However. I almost wish I?d gotten a full estimate or two before purchasing the Big Deal. They said the deal comes with two shelves which never showed up originally - they were eventually ordered but it delayed the project by two weeks. Through the course of the project I had to run to Lowe's 4 times for materials not included. The size of glass-front shower was special ordered but not quite the right size, so we had to go to Lowe's again to try & find metal retainers that would make the glass fit the completed shower. When he tore out the old shower he changed the opening size because there was rotten wood that needed to be removed, but didn't take into consideration that we'd ordered glass for fit the existing opening. The tile person asked me if I had a plumber to do some of the work. In fact I'd paid this company an extra $95 for them to do the plumbing. This tile person said he didn't do plumbing, but came back the next day & did plumbing after checking the contract. There were just additional charges throughout the project & I was getting some contradicting information on some aspects. For example, they charged me $400-some for a new shower pan that an installer later said I didn't need. I was then under the impression the pan was never installed. When I asked where the credit for it was, the owner said was in fact installed. They also had to come out after the work was done, after I'd sent pictures of showing flaws in the floor grouting. I really felt it was a true bait & switch. It felt like one thing after another that kept coming up. I'm still wondering what I was charged for, what I got, & whether or not I was charged for things I shouldn't have been. I recommend people just make sure they know what they're getting & know what they're paying for up front. I admit, we went into this not knowing what the cost of this type of work is. I've seen that other people have had a whole bathroom remodeled for what we ended up paying for the shower.

dear member: when it comes to shower remodel i am perfectly clear on what is included and what you are responsible for as the customer.let's address the issues one at a time...you did not like any of the tile that was in the special...i then came back to your house with more samples in blues and grays...you still did not like anything i brought you we had to special ught...i then recommended some tile web sites for you to look at...after several days you selected a tile that we had to special order ...which was more expensive and i only charged you the difference...the tile for the pan you selected was from another company it would take 2 weeks,,,,on top of that you selected special order corner shelves from yet another company..all this took time to get in...you are the one who insisted we at least demo the shower...knowing it may take several weeks to get everything in...you hired your own glass and shower guy..how is it my fault the glass measurements were wrong?when we demolitioned the walls you had bad plumbing which required a licensed plumber...i told we can do some plumbing work,,,but this was far more than what we could handle or be respondsible for...when we ripped up your shower pan tile we found it was solid cement which meant you did not need a new shower pan,,,so we only charged you for a new liner and the labor..which you and i discussed was an additional charge not included in the angie's list special....i credited you $ 150..00 on your balance due....when it was all finished you did not like the grout you selected....we both agreed that we would get the holidays out of the way and you agreed to a new grout color. my installer went out and finished as he promised....i can see why you might feel it took longer than expected but by no fault of ours....you made this job difficult from the start with special orders, bad plumbing, your own glass installers and not liking the grout color..because of all of this it took my installer an entire month before he got paid...how fair do you think that was to him? why is it people only see there side? i am so thankful to angie's list that i get to post a response.....i only have one question how beautiful is your shower now? i saw the pictures that oscar took .... all i can say is WOW...I REALLY WISH YOU WOULD END YOUR COMMENTS ON A POSITVE NOTE OF I LOVE MY SHOWER. member we really worked real hard on this one.... i remain sincerely yours and hope you have a blessed and prosperous new year robert mello

Quick response from Robert - he came out and measured, gave us an estimate. and we scheduled work to be performed a couple days later. Guys showed up as scheduled and completed work same day. We had our hallway and an office done - approx 300 sq ft. Beautiful hardwood floors replacing old ugly carpet - what a difference! Everyone we dealt with was professional, friendly, knowledgeable. We have other projects in the works and would not hesitate to use Robert and his crew again. Thanks for our beautiful new floors and a great experience.

dear customer : when you purchased the angie's list coupon i called you and told you that you were an hour and a half away and that it would be too difficult to do your job. after further discussion with you knowing that you had no one to do the job that you trusted i drove out to lady lake from altamonte spgs and we agreed to do the shower remodel...we went over all the things that was to be done to be cost effective for both of us...the last day of the install you asked my installer to build a bench and install a handicap grab bar....this was not in the original agreement..my installer agreed to do it for you for an additional cost but he would it on a weekend when he had time....you also asked him to remove wallpaper and paint...which he would do on the same weekend.....when he did have time he called you and set an appointment...he drove all the way from orlando to lady lake...when he got there because of your health issues you told him this was not a good weekend... nothing was given to him for his time or gas...he then made another appoinment with you this time you did call him before he left and again told him you were not feeling well....we have tried to help you because of your age and health issues....to write this report and give myself and my installer an F is just plain wrong.... i think at this point that you find someone locally that you can have the work done that you need.....i cannot go anymore in the negative to accomodate you...by the way nobody goes without a working shower for 7 weeks...i know you have a fully operational shower...what you want done was after the fact....sorry this did not work out.... i remain sincerely yours robert mello tile and carpet of altamonte

We recently bought a new house that had old carpet everywhere and wanted to have laminate flooring installed throughout the house, and tile done in the kitchen. We called a few companies for quotes and got some reasonable prices. What made us decide to choose Tile & Carpet of Altamonte Springs was the fantastic attitude and friendly demeanor of Robert. When he came out to measure for the quote, it was clear that he was willing to work with us and do whatever it took to gain our business. He asked us to call him if anyone else beat his price. He was such a nice guy, it would have taken a massive price cut to go elsewhere. We told him not to worry because even if he was undercut by a little bit that he would still get our business because personality goes a long way. We sure are glad that we made that decision. Our experience with Robert and his entire team was nothing short of stellar. Everyone was friendly, professional, and genuinely interested in helping us make the right decisions about what type of flooring to install in our home and how to install it. Speaking of installation? Our sincerest thanks go to Oscar and his team of highly skilled installers. We have them to thank for how beautiful our home is. The quality of work they do is top notch and you couldn't ask for a crew of more helpful guys. They really went above and beyond just installing some flooring. Thank you all for the amazing floors! The bathrooms are next, so be ready for our call very soon! Sara & Paul Zadie
Description of Work: Tile was laid in our kitchen (approx 120 square feet) and Laminate flooring was installed throughout the rest of the house (approx. 1550 square feet) not including the bathrooms. New baseboards were also installed everywhere there was new flooring.

Oscar was very timely, professional and considerate of our needs. All work was started on schedule and completed in a timely manner. Shower and bathroom look great. Would highly recommend Tile and Carpet of Altamonte.
Description of Work: Our master bathroom shower tile was cracked and out of date. We got quotes from two contractors but were surprised at how high the quotes were. We received one of Angie's list emails showing a deal with Tile & Carpet of Altamonte. We went to the store and scheduled an appointment with Robert. Robert came out and gave us a price to redo our shower walls and floor and the floor in our bathroom, including wall trim. Work also included removing old shower door, toilet and vanity and installing new ones. Robert's price was closer to what we had budgeted. I was also going to replace my medicine cabinet and vanity. We shopped around for a vanity and medicine cabinet but could not find anything that we liked. We went back to Tile & Carpet of Altamonte and found the vanity and sink combo and they had it made for us.
Robert, the owner of Tile and Carpet of Altamonte Springs, arrived on time and was professional providing us with an estimate. The estimate contained materials, labor, and demo costs. We used an Angie's List coupon for some of the work. My wife and I went to T&C of AS to pick out the tile and vanity top. Once we paid our deposit, the work was scheduled to begin within a week. The construction crew was led by Jason. He was professional and kept us apprised of any problems or delays. He was flexible with some minor changes we requested. Unfortunately, there were some unforeseen delays due to construction issues and the completion schedule was pushed back several days. This was not the fault of T&C of AS or Jason. T&C of AS addressed any questions and concerns we had. The work was completed to our satisfaction. We will being using T&C of AS again.
Description of Work: We turned a tub/shower into walk in shower with a seat, a granite vanity top, retiled bathroom floor, and a tile kitchen back splash.

We were very surprised at the owner’s attitude when speaking with the ladies during the interaction. I arrived a few minutes early and spoke with him and he seemed reasonable and anxious to do the project as it was proving to be rather large, but as soon as my wife, daughter and a family friend walked in, his attitude changed. I was still standing right there, but he seemed haughty, arrogant and extremely unprofessional, and only interested in talking about how good he was. I suppose it is possible that he was having a bad day, but the bottom line is, he was extremely unprofessional, and I would rather eat the $149.00 than buy anything from his store.
Description of Work: We bought a Big deal for $149 for $500 Credit toward ANY Flooring Material in the Store.

Member it is true i was very anxious to provide a great service for you, until your wife and daughter arrived..within minuetes it seemed no matter what i said your daughter and her friend challenged me at every turn from the rolling of the eyes to the whispers behind my back.she seemed to know it all...so no matter what i said to her i did not know what i was talking about or that i was untruthful... i pride myself on the knowledge of my products and to give each customer the utmost care. it was a clash of personalities between myself your daughter and her friend....i felt i was in a losing battle with them and i am sorry you did not see the way they were treating me,but very anxious to write a negative report about me... to not even call me and speak to me man to man is very unkind... i do not deserve what you have done....i hope that people that read this uncalled review of me will be more understanding and kinder that what you have been to me this day...i hold no ill will towards you and your family...i only wish you and your family nothing but the best... i remain sincerely yours robert mello the proud owner of tile and carpet of altamonte for 14 years in good standing in the central florida area.....

When I walked in the store to "browse" I was met by Robert the owner. He immediately educated me on hardwood, do's and don'ts. I laid eyes on a sample and knew that was the one! He brought it by the house at my convenience, gave me a reasonable and comparable rate. Oscar and William were the installers. They were the consummate professionals. My 1960's flooring had issues which Robert and Oscar quickly dealt with giving me affordable practical options. My carpet is gone and I now have beautiful hardwood floors. Thank You very much!!
Description of Work: I had carpet removed discarded and replaced with the most beautiful 7 inch plank Naturally Aged hard wood floor in my living and dining room.

The owner contacted me to inform about the delivery and arrival. They arrived, removed the old carpet, vacuumed the floors, laid the carpet and completed the job in excellent time. They were very detailed with cuttings.

Two of the edges were ragged so they had to put a vinyl strip on each side, which is what took so long. It took them forever to get everything right and the job finished. They were very pleasant over the phone.
Description of Work: They put ceramic tile on the front entrance of the house.
