Used Tom on prior project (installing a new entry door). Cost was high, but I thought quality was ok. Discovered later that door was not hung plumb. Door swings open vs. staying in place. Brand new pre-hung door from Provia (great company) and it's not air tight due to his installation choices. $4000 and I have a towel at the bottom of my door. Before I discovered these issues, I asked Tom to remodel our living room (complete gutting). Was going to cost $30,000 and take 2 months. Tom was asked to do some foundation support work to ensure the 1st floor could handle the additional load from the new hardwood floors. I expected to pay $2500 for the foundation work. Final cost was double that. Day 1 I came home and had no power to half my house, including my fridge. When I called him about it, rather than making it right, he tells me he's very busy on Monday nights with church and his kids. WHAT!?!? Promises the fridge will have power by end of next day. Next day I come home, fridge still doesn't have power. He can't get a hold of his subcontractor. Claims it had power before they left. Maybe. Because that night, whatever they did, they messed with the wires in the service entrance (not something I believed needed done) and the result was arc welding the incoming line to the service entrance bolt, ruining the panel. Entire panel needed replaced and hence double the cost. The fix for my fridge that night? run an extension cord to my fridge from another room. That is TOTALLY unprofessional and unacceptable. The straw that broke the camels back is when I asked him when he planned to continue doing the living room (remember, 30K of revenue for him and he had over a year to plan and allocate resources for it), he tells me "Other projects came up and I'll be delay another month." I expressed my frustration that my expensive project that's been on his radar for a year just got pushed aside and there's no compensation for it. He told me, "I understand if you want to go with a different contractor". Tom is a nice individual. But he clearly values his church and children more than his business and his customers. Poor quality control. Inability to manage his subcontractors. No committment to project start times. Inability to get in touch with unless he wants something. Often times I heard nothing from him until he wanted payment for services rendered. Then suddenly he's very responsive. Will NEVER recommend or use his services again.
