First, I had screwed up and failed to be at home at the appointed time on Wednesday. KeyedIn was clearly not happy, but quite gracious. I called back the next day. He came and figured out that the outside portion of the door works had failed, and that a replacement was better than trying to repair it, given the age. He produced a fresh set of hardware and installed it, setting the bolt to use the existing key. I'm deeply grateful for a working front door.
Description of Work: KeyedIn replaced a failed door handle with a new unit he had along with him.

I paid $520, in effect, for nothing. When the technician could not reset one of two locks on my front door, he suggested that I buy an upgraded commercial lock to replace it. When I asked what I should do after his rekeying efforts rendered the second lock on this door inoperable, he suggested that I not turn the door handle to the locked position. I was uncomfortable with this solution because if someone inadvertently used the handle to lock the door, I would not be able to get in. One of the owners of the company came to my house a few days later to review my situation. I was subjected to a sales pitch. He told me that the builder-grade locks that the technician attempted to reset were, in fact, difficult to rekey. I asked him why the technician had not told me about this difficulty prior to attempting to rekey them. (Had I known, I would not have pursued this approach.) The bottom line was that I should buy, in his view, higher-quality (i.e., more expensive) locks. Initially, I was going to have the owner remediate my front-door problem by installing a door handle without an inside lock but decided not to throw good money after bad. I plan to hire another locksmith to resolve my lock problems. Avoid Keyed In like the plague!!!
Description of Work: The provider was asked to rekey existing locks. The technician attempted to rekey six locks. Two of the rekeyings were satisfactory. The other four were not. I purchased a commercial lock for one door when the rekeying did not work. After the service, three of the doors could not be unlocked from outside.

Dear Member, Thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry that you were not happy with our services. When our technician arrived at your home, he saw that you had Kwickset Smart Key locks, which are builder grade and very poor quality. A quick Google search will reveal that an overwhelming number of customers across the country have problems with these locks every day, and as a rule our company does not sell them and highly recommends replacing them. Our technician recommended that you replace the locks, but did his best to meet your needs when you declined. When the locks (predictably) did not cooperate, we sent an owner to your home. The owner – like the technician – encouraged you to purchase higher-quality locks in order to preserve the safety of your home. This was not a “sales pitch” on our part, which is evidenced by the fact that the owner offered to waive the labor charge for replacement or, as an alternative, he offered to help you call the manufacturer to receive free replacements for the faulty locks. You declined these services, and the owner left your home believing that he had done his best to resolve a difficult technical situation. Unfortunately he did not realize the level of your disappointment, and we wish that we had been able to work out a better solution on your behalf. Again, thank you for providing feedback, and we apologize for any miscommunications that may have occurred. We hope to learn from this experience and use it to continue to improve our interactions with future customers. Sincerely, The Keyed In Team

The original deadbolt was not keyed both sides. The glass in the front door was broken, the deadbolt opened, and the house entered and burgled. This is a rental property, and I was notified by the tenant at around 7:30 PM. I got to the house around 8, and then called Keyed In. They arrived within an hour, provided two options for a replacement deadbolt (keyed both sides.) I opted for the stronger one, and the installation was completed within 1o minutes. The locksmith was totally professional and efficient.

I made an appointment, and I was called 15 minutes ahead of time to say they were having truck trouble. We made another appointment and they arrived within the allotted time. He told me I needed a new motor on the garage door opener, but I thought the cost was prohibitive.($650) He indicated that $250 of the cost was for labor, but admitted it might only take 45 minutes to an hour to install. My husband tried to understand why the labor cost would be so high, but he became argumentative and insulting. We did not use his service.

I called Keyed In to schedule an estimate. They scheduled us in a two hour window for the next day! Leo arrived right on time after a 10 minute notice by phone. He looked at the job, gave us an estimate we thought was too high, then made an adjustment we agreed to. He was very fast, very professional, very personable. We are very pleased. I promptly called the company to get an estimate for a garage door tune-up - another service they provide. Again, they scheduled us for the next day.

I purchased the $100 worth of service for $75 deal and provided three possible appointment times and dats. Shortly thereafter, I received communication from Keyed in LLC and my appointment was scheduled as I needed it to be. Day of service (June 5th), I received a call about 35 minutes prior to the locksmith's arrival and true to his word, and quot;Leoand quot; arrived on time. I had just purchased my home and wanted my locks re-keyed and the deadbolt replaced. Leo was professional, efficient, tidy with his work, and I feel he did not try and sell me on anything other than what I actually needed. He took the time to answer any questions I had and was very patient and thorough with his responses. Though I am sure I could have gotten the work performed a little cheaper elsewhere, I am happy with the service I received and content with the price I paid. I would definately recommend Keyed in LLC to others, and of course I will be a return customer when the need arises.

The technician arrived on time, called me 20 minutes before for heads-up.. Perfect. Arrived in car marked with the vendor's name, but no ID shown upon arrival. Ok. He looked around the door and told me that the springs are bad and need to be replaced. He also told me that the rollers were of poor quality and should be replaced for better performance. Upto this time he had not even operated the door to check how it worked. Realzing that I did not blink, he went on to play the and quot;scare card.and quot; He informed me that if the springs were not fixed, that it will lead to failing/buring of the garage door opener moter. I have a double car garage door and a 3/4 HP Chamberlain opener installed 2 years ago. I volunteered to operate the door, unlatched it to show that it needed balancing. He informed that balancing was not part of the tune up service. That it included tightening of the bolts and lubricating of the rollers. I politely thanked him and asked to leave without performing any service. SO, THIS IS A SCAM. You pay a fee of $60 for the guy to come to your place. Not perform any work. Tell you that things are bad with your door and sell additional services. If this is not a scam, I do not know what is. PS: I called and spoke to the Manager/Owner, and he told me that adjusting the tension of the springs is not included in the service that I purchased.
Description of Work: He arrived and inspected the door, without operating it told me that several things were wrong and it needed to be fixed. That he would not adjust the springs to balance the door.

Dear Member, Thank you for your valuable feedback. In our technician’s expert opinion, your door required significant repairs in order to operate safely. We could not in good conscience only perform minor repairs to a door that could potentially fall on someone or have its motor burn out. That would be akin to a mechanic fixing a broken tail light without fixing faulty breaks. We fully respect your right to choose your repair company, but we cannot relax our safety standards based upon customer preference. We did not charge you any money for our services, and you are eligible for a full refund of your coupon from Angie’s List. Sincerely, The Keyed In Team

The technician did not show up even close to on time. Neither the technician nor the office called to let my tenant know that he would or might be late. My tenant had to take off work to be home for the job, and they didn't show up till more than an hour late, nearly an hour and a half. When the tenant called to inquire, she got no answer. She left a polite voicemail and they never called back. When the locksmith arrived, he acted unfriendly and disrespectfully toward my tenant, a young lady. He kept demanding, in unpleasant tones, to know whether she owned the unit, even though I had already told the office that I am the owner and live in another State, and that the tenant would be the person there during the job. (That hasn't posed any problem, by the way, for any other contractor over the years.) The locksmith refused to honor the deal as written. The coupon very clearly and unambiguously states that the $241 covers and quot;installation of a new high-security deadbolt system.and quot; Not sure how anyone could find that unclear or argue about what it means. But the locksmith said that the $241 applies only if there is already a deadbolt in place that is being removed and replaced, not when there was no deadbolt to begin with. The coupon says nothing of the sort, whatsoever. Tenant called while locksmith was still there to report his attempt to change the terms of the contract, as well as his rude attitude. I promptly called the office and spoke with a man who stated that he owns the business. He also refused to honor the contract / coupon as written. He insisted that the word and quot;replacementand quot; appears in the coupon, but it does not. When I asked him to show me where -- looking directly at the coupon on my computer screen -- he refused to do so, saying irrelevantly and quot;we've run the same deal for two years now.and quot; He could not tell me where the word replacement appeared on the contract, and it does not appear there. He refused to even look at the coupon. The man on the phone continued to be evasive and became insulting, questioning my ability to read English (!). I finally lost patience with this crook and told him I'll be informing Angie's List and considering suing him in Small Claims Court. I called my tenant right afterwards and said, please go ahead and tell the guy to leave, we're not paying more than we agreed to and don't want him to do the job. The locksmith glared at the tenant and muttered something under his breath as he left. Creepy and uncomfortable for my tenant, a young lady who was there by herself. This is one of the worst customer-service experiences we've ever had, with repair contractors or otherwise. Very sorry that we ever contacted this dishonest, untrustworthy, unprofessional company. A refund won't begin to make up for this experience. Let's see the company's response. I'll bet it includes more lies and double-talk. LOCKED IN LLC, IF YOU RESPOND, SPECIFY WHERE IN THE COUPON THE WORDS and quot;REPLACEMENTand quot; OR and quot;REPLACEand quot; APPEAR. THOSE WORDS ARE STILL NOT THERE.
Description of Work: Nothing, because he refused to honor the clear terms of the contract (coupon) and tried to charge more than promised.

Dear Member, Thank you for your valuable feedback. We sincerely apologize for our lack of punctuality to your appointment. As you can see from the vast majority of our other reviews, we pride ourselves on our professionalism and punctuality and are very sorry that we did not live up to our reputation in this instance. We also apologize for the seemingly ambiguous language on our coupon. It may be difficult to believe, but in our two years running this high security deadbolt deal, you are the first customer to expect this deal to cover new drilling on a door without any deadbolt rather than installation of a new deadbolt in place of an old one. There is a section of “fine print” on the coupon that states that we reserve the right to charge additional amounts for any extra labor. Since our conversation we have explicitly listed “drilling” as an example of extra labor to avoid any similar future confusion. However, even though “drilling” was not explicitly listed on our coupon before, it still falls into the “extra labor” category and requires an extra charge. The drilling and “fresh installation” process takes a significant amount of time and resources, and our company would quickly become insoluble if we included that service in the already highly reduced price of our high security deadbolt & security inspection deal. In regards to the rest of your comments, we must agree to disagree about what exactly transpired, including who was more disrespectful to whom. Though we do sincerely apologize if any discomfort at all was caused to your tenant. Again, thank you for your feedback. Sincerely, The Keyed In Team

He came at the early side of the window and called with a heads up when he would be arriving. He was professional. He adjusted my sensors. Things are working well now. He quickly and efficiently installed the locking door knobs. I am very glad he did it rather than me as one required some adjusting. He saved me a headache and a service call charge by being available for the extra work!
Description of Work: He provided a tune-up of my garage door, made recommendations for optional service, and, for no extra charge, expanded the distance on my clickers and set-up my car so that the clicker is not needed! He took the time to read my car manual. Also, for an additional $75, he installed two indoor keyed door knobs that I had not yet installed.

Used this service to change locks (re-key) on doors. They responded promptly to our purchase of their posted deal on line to schedule appointment. The service man arrived as scheduled, and with an advance call indicating they we're close. Time was taken to hear our needs/desires and the types (regular and high-security) of locks discussed. We opted for the security offered by more controlled reproduction of keys, and non-pick able nature of the high-security locks. When he identified he didn't have the right color (satin nickel) cylinder with him, he promised to return the next morning at 8 am with the requested cylinder and the extra high-security keys we requested. The installation occurred as we wanted, in a rapid fashion with complete understanding. We had three locks changed and received 6 high-security keys. We felt that we had been well treated and received good value for our "deal" purchased through Angie's a List.

It's really difficult to determine the overall quality of this purchase. I am in the process of renting my home out and wanted to have a few touchups done throughout the house, which the garage was one of the many things that I am having done. I don't have any cons regarding using this contractors; however, I would have like to know what I got beyond lubrication. The visit was fairly quick, which isn't a complaint but a point-by-point explanation of what services were performed would have been useful to determine if the job was performed as thoroughly as explained in the fine print. Since I don't have any complaints about the quality of the service, I most likely would use the contractor again but with a more involved approach. I appreciated the contractor arriving early; however, he didn't provide the 30-minute advance notice that was promised, which would have been preferred. Literally, he called as I was moving my truck out of the garage (for a separate reason).

I never had the house re-keyed after buying it a few years ago, so when I saw a voucher for a service call for $19 I got one. (The $19 doesn't include any work, just the trip; a savings of about $30) I asked about re-keying the lock and he went over several options from replacing the core in-kind to upgrading to a higher security model. Since the lock was over thirty years old, if assumed it was sucespitble to and quot;bumpingand quot; devices so opted for the upgrade. He did his due dilligence in making sure I understood I would not be able to get the keys copied (like at Home Depot, etc) without going through the manufacturer for the blanks. The installation was excellent, and he pointed out a potential problem I might have in the future with the wood aging around the inside part. I'm the kind of person who likes to know all the details and he did a great job of filling me in on everything. [UPDATE: I corrected the letter scale selections which I initially got backwards - my first review]
