Keyed In LLC

The company rep said I did not need a tune up and should get a refund. He also said I should get the garage doors replaced. I appreciate his honesty. He took measurements for replacement garage doors but unfortunately I have not heard from the company.

Keyed In was very quick. They showed up on time and did an excellent job. I would definitely recommend them to friends and neighbors.

We had bought a house and needed all the locks rekeyed, plus two deadbolts installed. I called Keyed In and they were able to give me an appointment time for the following Saturday (since I wasn't available during the week). The locksmith showed up at the beginning of the specified time frame on Saturday and was able to give us a quick estimate. When it was a little higher than we were anticipating he was kind enough to work with us to provide a discount so we could get everything we needed done. He was able to rekey most of the locks but didn't have the deadbolts so he told us he would come back Sunday to finish. He returned Sunday and finished everything, but it was a couple hours after the time frame we had been given and went quite late into the evening, although he was able to rekey an additional lock that we had missed originally.

Once I provided my telephone number, I got a couple of calls which were of such poor signal quality I couldn't understand at word. After that, nothing, so I had to call back again and eventually got to speak with someone. I had a particular lock in mind, but the vendor was unwilling to put the voucher towards the installation of a different lock than the one in the "Big Deal" offer. I had no way to verify the quality of the lock they offered. They said I should get a refund from you and contact them separately. And they told me I shouldn't get the lock I wanted (which was Consumer Reports top rated) but rather a different brand which I was unable to verify. As a result I intend to find another locksmith.

The technicians (one was a trainee) were thorough, friendly and knowledgeable. I watched the entire inspection of my door and the opener (he removed the cover of the opener and looked to for signs of wear and tear of the motor) and listened to all of the points being emphasized to the trainee. My garage door opener system is "old" technology and I was told about the new "one-piece" system that operates more smoothly and quieter. It was also recommended that I get a new door. That really didn't sit well with me. The door really is just fine - it was the opener that was causing me problems and of course, it operated perfectly while they were there (isn't that always the case). Anyway, I had purchased this service with a $25 special for inspection with $50 credit toward any service. The service recommended by the tech was about $1300 - a new door and opener system. I passed on the service saying I'd give it some thought. He did offer to install a new opener I had previously purchased but based on his inspection that was not the problem. He was honest in that he said he couldn't tell me exactly why the door had not been working properly. I appreciated his honesty and opted to pass on all of the service. It was $25 well spent for the inspection but I hate that I was not able to utilize the $50 credit towards a service.

Roy, the technician, arrived promptly in the first half hour of the two hour window. He was able to quickly determine the potential problems. He did not try and sell anything extra, in fact, he wanted to be very conservative on his approach to keep the cost down. He was neat in appearance and he left the job with no trash remaining. I asked for his card as I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone.

The listing was not clear on the fact that the service call is separate from the service charge; I declined the service due to the expense and the minor problem involved.

Upon arrival, for several minutes he insisted that the job (spring replacement) could not be done, that our doors were too heavy for the springs currently installed. I pointed out that the configuration of our garage doors was the same as originally installed in our home (and standard throughout the 400 homes of our neighborhood), and that the door weight was significantly lightened when we replaced the lower wooden panels with aluminum panels a few years ago. Then he insisted that the door was unbalanced because of the disparity in weight between the wooden upper panels and aluminum lower panels. I had a pair of new springs and asked if they would be ok as replacements. He insisted that they were unsafe, insufficient for the weight, yet, as I discovered later, he installed (and presumably charged us for) a spring that appears to be identical--same length and diameter! He stated that the price to replace the springs was $311; we agreed, even though we thought it was a little high--we just wanted professional maintenance on our garage door! When I asked if he could correct the slight slack in the motor chain, he insisted that the slack was the result of an imbalance in the door (even though the identical twin door has no slack); he did nothing to try to adjust the chain. He stated that the doors were dangerous, that the old cables could snap and allow the door to slam down upon somebody or something, yet did not offer to change the cables (we did not expect it for free, of course). I think he was using scare tactics to impress upon us that our doors, springs and cables were all dangerous, and should just be replaced with a complete overhaul. As he tabulated the bill, I reminded him that Angies List members are supposed to get a 15% discount. He shrugged and said that he forgot to include it, but would work something out when we buy replacement doors. He left without providing an invoice, bill, receipt or anything like it... In the end, we're wondering if we should call a straight-shooting garage door professional to look over the Keyed In repairs.

I reached out to Keyed In LLC to discuss the job I was looking to have done, the service provider was not able to perform this particular job, and I decided to hold out on having the job complete at this time.

Leo was GREAT!! We had trouble with the thumb lock on the front door late at night. Keyed In said they would send someone within 30-45 minutes and Leo showed up right on time. He got us into the house and did some diagnostics to figure out the problem as well. He explained the situation clearly, and provided suggested solutions. When we asked him to come back out for an estimate, he was right on time. He also fixed the deadbolts on the front and back doors for free! He will be our go-to guy for any locksmith issues from now on!

They responded quickly to my request and were punctual. The technician explained all the options. The locks work great.
