There was an additional cost for the remote for the ceiling fan. It was fine and scheduling was good with them. I just wish they had let me know me know about the additional cost beforehand for installing the (fan) remote.
Description of Work: They installed two ceilings fans and one remote. These were put in our sun room and loft.

Tim arrived right on time. We discussed the scope of the project, which included going into the attic to install the electrical box in the ceiling, since there was no existing ceiling fixture. He asked how I wanted the switch to work, and based on my decision, ran to Home Depot for a new dual switch and a few additional parts. He also installed the remote. The entire job took 3 hours, including cleanup (I have loose insulation in the attic, so that took a while-it gets everywhere!). It was hot up there, but he was always professional, polite and informative about every step of the operation. Love my new fan!

One thing I do not understand about electricians (all I have encountered so far) is they rely on the client to purchase the parts needed, even when the client does not have the technical knowledge to purchase the correct parts. Tim and a colleague (with a tony British accent) came for two relatively simple electrical items, but I was informed that they couldn't install the dimmer in the bathroom because I hadn't purchased the dimmer switch in advance. I hadn't realized this was expected of me. Tim recommended that I go to Home Depot to purchase the dimmer switch because prices there are significantly less expensive than at the neighborhood hardware store. I went to Home Depot - where the aisle with dimmers, swtiches, plates, etc. is a hot mess, a jumble with items in the wrong place and tons of missing stock - and couldn't find the kind of dimmer switch I wanted. I texted Tim a photo of the best dimmer switch I could find and he immediately texted back that this would work. When he came for our next appointment, I informed Tim this really wasn't the dimmer I wanted. In my opinion, TIM WENT ABOVE THE CALL OF DUTY BY WALKING WITH ME SEVERAL BLOCKS ON A HOT SUMMER DAY TO THE LOCAL HARDWARE STORE AND CONFIRMING THAT THE KIND OF DIMMER I WANTED (which this store, unlike Home Depot, had in stock) WOULD WORK. I was a much happier customer having the kind of dimmer I wanted installed, and I appreciate that Tim was willing to go the extra mile (literally and figuratively) to make this happen. Post Script: I decided to install a dimmer in my bathroom because I had read in books about energy efficiency that this is a cost-saving measure. However, after the dimmer was installed, my bathroom was too dark when the dimmer switch was up as high as it could go. I asked Tim about this, and he advised me to change out the bulbs with brighter bulbs. This worked. I learned through some follow up research that it's normal to lose brightness with dimmer switches compared with regular on/off light switches. I suspect that I'm not achieving an energy savings because I have to use higher wattage bulbs. Even if so, though, dimmer switches do give more control. Sometimes in a bathroom you want full brightness so you can see clearly and other times, such as in the middle of the night, you might want the least amount of light needed.
Description of Work: Installed dimmer in bathroom and replaced kitchen fluorescent ceiling light fixture with a fixture that can use fluorescent or incandescent bulbs.

It went great! They were in and out in about 20 minutes. Kind, knowledgeable, and professional, they expertly installed our fan and also gave us some ideas about increasing our air conditioning efficiency. This project would have cost me 3+ hours plus a little bit of my sanity; glad I went with the pros.

It was terrible. I called ahead of time to tell them about the outside lights that had stopped working – which they said was no problem. When they showed up, however, they said they don’t do outside work. They did it anyway, but the lights stopped working shortly after. I’d also asked them to put in a pot light in the laundry room, which he said would take more than 2 hours. He *kinda* cleaned up his mess. He didn’t seem like he was very professional, and he turned off the circuit by shorting it out. Part of me wonders if he did things up to code.

Thank you for confirming to stick to my coupon i went out of my way to do the job you asked if the light stopped working after i left i would have gladly come back and repaired it but waiting to complain a couple of months after the job was done is not the best way to get good service from any company and as far as workman ship goes it was up to code and very high quality work. I also came out to your house for a appointment and waited for 30 minutes and then called you and you forgot our appointment and i still came back a second time.

Although I was not present when work was done, the end result was surprisingly better then the previous fan. The replacement included a light which was unexpected but impressive. Work was done in a professional matter, technician was on time and work was completed in a timely fashion. I was pleased with to finished product. I would recommend and use them again if the need arose.

Update 01/2015 - Had electrical inspection conducted by another electrician, found several code violations in Paradise's work. One particularly egregious violation--a loose hot uncapped wire in the attic, could have fried me and/or burned my house down. Good thing I got that fixed. Other aspects of Paradise's work (described in original review, below) suggest that they are skilled and basically competent, but they are sloppy and cut corners. I'm just lucky that I had the inspection done before I went up in the attic and touched something I shouldn't touch (which Paradise shouldn't have left there). _______________ Original Review Immediately After Service: I found Paradise Construction through a "Big Deal" on Angie's List, for 8 man-hours of electrical labor for $399, called Tim on Saturday to schedule the work, and had the work performed on Thursday of the following week. When we discussed the details of the job, Tim advised me that the work would likely exceed 8 man hours, and informed me of his hourly rate for time beyond 8 man-hours. We agreed that I would provide all materials except electrical wire (he was to provide that) and we agreed that he would not have any responsibility for repairing cuts that he had to make to the walls and ceilings in the course of the electrical work that he was doing (no problem, I'm good at drywall repair, and it would be insane to pay an electrician's hourly rate to do drywall repair!) Tim called me about an hour before the scheduled start time to notify me that a previous job was taking longer than anticipated and that he would be about 30 minutes late (no problem for me) and he arrived exactly when he told me he would. He came with an assistant whose name I believe was Dave. The two of them got to work immediately and worked very quickly. During the work, it became apparent that he didn't have enough wire in his truck. I ran to the hardware store to buy more, which I figured (correctly) was a better deal for me than paying him--on the clock--to go to the store and buy stuff. Tim and Dave continued working on other stuff while I ran to the store, so no time was spent unproductively. It is worth noting that my house, on which Tim and Dave were performing work, was a foreclosure. It was obviously in very bad shape when I bought it, and since then, I have had many additional "surprises" as I have worked to fix it up. Tim found a few additional surprises with regard to existing wiring that was done in strange ways that made the work that he was doing significantly more complicated than he or I anticipated. If not for this, they probably would have ended up finishing in under the 8 man-hours, even though he originally advised me that it might take longer. With the added unforeseen troubleshooting he had to do, it ended up taking an additional hour, thus the work ended up costing exactly what I expected in the first place (still a very good deal) rather than costing even less. During the course of the troubleshooting, Dave actually identified, and immediately corrected, an unsafe condition in the wiring that I inherited from the previous owner. That was definitely a bonus. The only reason I gave a rating of "B" for professionalism is that I expected him to bring the wire, but then I ended up needing to go buy it. No big deal, though, and this was probably a better deal from my standpoint than paying an electrician marked-up prices for materials. Bottom line: we agreed on the scope of work, Tim and Dave got right down to business, worked *hard* for 5 hours without a break, and delivered on all aspects of the work with the very minor exception of not bringing enough wire. Good work, and for $525, a ridiculously good deal.
Description of Work: 1. Uninstalled two old bathroom exhaust fans, and installed new ones, which I supplied. 2. Re-wired bathroom exhaust fan and separate light fixture to be controlled by separate switches (previously both were controlled by the same switch, so one could not turn on the light without turning on the fan, or turn the light off but leave the fan on) 3. Re-wired an existing ceiling fan to be controlled using a switch (previously pull-chain only). 4. Ran new wire to installed new switch-controlled fan-rated ceiling electric box in room that previously had no ceiling electric box (on first floor of two-floor house, thus no attic access, I note that because it creates significant additional work).

The work went extremely well. My rowhouse was built in 1910 so the existing wiring was a combination of old and new lines that needed to be rationalized and moved. Tim did a great job problem solving the unique situation. He arrived on time both days and completed what he committed to, enabling me to continue with my renovation project. Separate from the work I engaged him to complete, Tim also helped me address a few minor electrical issues I had that were technically "out of scope." I would definitely recommend Paradise to other homeowners.

It was okay. He moved a light socket that had an existing switch. He also found some existing electrical work that had been done incorrectly, and fixed that. Something happened to make the switch not work anymore. He didn’t have time to fix it and he said he’d call me back – but he didn’t. There was a little miscommunication on when they were supposed to show up; he showed up at 9am and I had emailed that I wouldn't be there at that time.

The guys came out twice to perform service. My initial request for service was for installation of under cabinet lighting in my kitchen & replacing a chandelier. The lighting that I purchased did not allow for hard wiring, so the guys recommended that I buy a better that will last for years to come. I'm glad that i did. The guys installed my chandelier in a very timely manner & Timothy returned about a week later to install the cabinet lighting. Very happy with their work. Very professional & courteous guys.

Awesome! I wanted to do a heavy-up at my new home. I shopped around and got quotes from several companies incl Tim. I chose Paradise because of the price, responsiveness, and professionalism that Tim conducted himself. The job called for significantly more work than expected because of my desire to eventually add a backup generator, Tim made sure that I would not need to reinvent the wheel later and installed the right equipment to meet my future needs. During the course of his work I decided to add several additional outlets and discovered a mis-wired light. He took care of all of the work in short order. Tim is officially my go-to electrician.
