The customer service was great.
Description of Work: I had significant questions regarding the conversion of a heating system from oil to gas. Paul Filip from HARP was extremely knowledgeable, willing to answer my questions, and patient. This is a very high customer service oriented company and it shows.

I would like to get some more information about this account. I have an individual with this name in our system but not in Plainville. The one in our system is in New Britain. Perhaps this is a rental property, if it is I have that we went out for a maintenance on 1/17/2012 (not July) and that our tech spent 2.25 hrs on a heat maintenance there. That is not exactly a short amount of time for a $165 oil maintenance. Also we charged for Nozzle, filter and strainer an additional $15 so I'm wondering if this this the same person and if he remembers the details from our service call from a year ago. Also, his call was for a heat problem. We normally charge $94 diagnostic plus whatever its going to cost to fix it. In his case, his boiler was pretty dirty and we did not even charge the diagnostic fee, which we normally do. So we drove all the way to New Britain and did a 2.25 hr maintenance for $192.05 including tax. I just wish he hadn't waited a year to let me know there was an issue.

Our water heater was leaking on Friday 2/16/13. Checked with Angie's first. Called H.A.R.P. The owner, Kevin Moriarity, called right back Gave me an estimate right over the phone. His company did work for us before so we were in the system. Asked pointed questions about the size of leak. And did we think the heater could hold until Monday. It would. Monday morning first thing they called. Came in the early morning. Removed old unit. Installed the new heater and cleaned up after the job was done Next day a technician returned to add another item to the heater to preserve the longevity of the new unit. The technicians were informative, neat, friendly and efficient. Would definitely use their services again and highly recommend them too.
Description of Work: We needed a new hot water heater. Fifty Gallon, 10 year life expectancy. Gas heated. Talked to owner of H.A.R P Mechanical on Friday and made arrangements for removal of old unit that was 15 year and install new unit Monday morning. Also to take away old unit.

At some point during the day (Friday, 2/22/13) our gas furnace stopped, and I didn't realize it until, of course, it was "after hours". Isn't that always how it happens? We called HARP because we are Angie's List members and they have such a good rating. I'm glad we did. Within 5 minutes of calling and advising we needed emergency service (8:30 PM), the technician (Rich) called. Based on our explanation of the problem, he was able to give us an estimate over the phone so we would know what to expect before he even got here. Within 30 minutes he was in our basement checking out the issue. It turns out we need a new part for the furnace (sensor), but Rich was able to temporarily fix the problem so we wouldn't freeze our butts off over the next couple of days while waiting for the part to arrive. He even answered a bunch of questions we had that weren't related to why he was here. We will definitely use HARP again, and I plan on making an appointment very soon to have our air ducts cleaned. Oh - since we are Angie's List members, the cost was less than quoted over the phone thanks to a coupon I was able to use!

We wanted to switch fuel sources for our home and HARP was highly recommended on Angie's. An installer came by right away and assessed the job. Verbal estimate was rather high and contractor was vague about reasons for the price. It took nearly a month of calls and emails for the written estimate to arrive. Unfortunately , the written estimate didn't include the breakdown in price for each portion of the job (as required to secure a homeowner's loan). Even if we gotten the price breakdown from HARP, I would have chosen someone else to do the job. I don't think it should be necessary to have to "chase down" a contractor to do the job as promised. I have other people to babysit. I wouldn't recommend anyone who doesn't keep their promises. ***********************************UPDATE 4/2/2013************************************** I just read the provider response of Feb 14, 2013 and wanted to make note of a few things. I appreciate the detail in the response and, wow, the meticulous notes. I also updated the "punctuality grade"to an A since they brought it to my attention in their response. Unfortunately,I have to leave the "Professionalism grade" at "F". Stressing that my "memory of the events...is a bit skewed" and the ITEMIZED quote I kept requesting "was not a high priority" is not a great way to impress customers on a review site. The provider response did not address the fact that the quote did not include the price breakdown I requested, and is required by the bank. The meticulous notes and impressive punctuality (A+ there!) does not make up for a non-itemized quote that the bank won't accept and a lack of communication with the customer. A tiny little HVAC co. made HARP look pretty bad last month. The other co. quoted me a fair price with a breakdown for each part of the job. It enabled us to get the loan easily. The installation was smooth and their communication was good. I'm NOT saying that HARP Mechanical is always a difficult co. to deal with and they are only prompt when writing kind of snarky responses on Angies. Many of their reviews are quite good. I just found several HVAC companies in the area that are much better. I can't recommend this company.
Description of Work: Site visit and written estimate. It took a 6 or 7 calls and an email or two to accomplish this.

Thank you for taking the time to write this review. After talking with Paul Filip, the Comfort Specialist who was at your home and going through what can only be described as his meticulous notes, I think your memory of the events from 4 months ago are a bit skewed. Paul went to your house on 10/02/12. He rough quoted you the work and told you he would follow up in 1-2 weeks with pricing before putting it in writing. On 10/16/12 at 10:35 a.m. you left Paul a voice mail asking him to contact you. Your message went on to state that the original rough quote was high but that you were looking into a home improvement loan. Paul returned this phone call and says that you repeatedly told him that the price was too high and not in your budget and you both mutually agreed that your quote was not a high priority. You called and left Paul another voice mail on 10/23/13 at 11:35 a.m. asking for the quote in writing anyway, just so you would have it. Paul returned your call on 10/24/12 at 9:30 a.m. and told him you would get a quote by the end of the day. The quote was emailed to your gmail account on 10/24/12 and updated and re-emailed again on 10/25/12. In between these two calls, Paul went to the owner of the company to discuss your home and what our next step should be. Based on what you said at the time of the estimate and in subsequent phone calls about not wanting to spend that much money or thinking that it was too costly, Kevin and Paul decided that we would take care of priority/emergencies first and that your estimate could wait as you seemed on the fence about what to do and not in a huge hurry anyway. I read your comments and have no idea, after dealing with Paul, you could ever in a million years call him vague. So the 6-7 phone calls/babysitting you mention in your review is completely inaccurate. You called us twice. We were totally up front with you and you are still unsatisfied. We even arrived on time at 11:00 a.m. on 10/02/12 and even that only got us a B for punctuality. We know we can't please everyone and I'm sorry we couldn't please you. Good luck with whatever company you choose IF you ever decide to do the work.

The gas boiler went out in my house and of course it was on a holiday. I called several companies but none was able or willing to come out on New Year's except HARP. My gas boiler was very old and a part had broken. They were able to order the part and fix it in a timely fashion. They were very knowledgeable, reasonably price and customer friendly.

Called HARP Mechanical and Home Services LLC to schedule a regular maintenance appointment. The person who i spoke with at HARP was very professional, but explained to me the service they were offering was only for emergencies not regular maitenance. Therefore, I did not engage in their service. My recommendation is to have someone at Angie's critique the offer and validate it for usability. The offer was ultimately re-written to alleviate confusion for other customers.

There is no better company. I love them and I trust them implicitly. They're service is superior and all their reps are superior. I've never had a bad experience and only had just completely quality experiences with them. I belong to the gold plan that they have and I pay $20 a month and for that I get a free annual check-up and any emergency work I get for free, so this was an emergency and they came out and I paid zero. It was well worth it and more than paid for itself.

Harp is an amazing company. I don't have a basement. My forced hot air oil furnace and air conditioning unit was located in a bedroom closet. The smell and the noise made the bedroom very unpleasant to stay in. When I discovered that it was possible to place a gas unit in the attic I reached out to several companies to get quotes. Harp was the only company that would install a high efficiency unit in an unheated attic. A high efficiency gas furnace produces condensation (water). The other firms were afraid of having problems with the condensation freezing. The Harp salesman said "We do this all the time and have never had a problem". He explained the steps they take to make sure there will be no issues. I contracted with HARP to do the job. They guided me through the process of getting the gas company to hook up to my house. The salesman informed me of the work schedule. The crew showed up as promised per the schedule. Each day they left the place clean. Oh, did I mention that my attic is a crawl space? It's very tight up there. When the crew arrived they checked it out and at first thought the job could NOT be done due to lack of available space. They said they were going to brainstorm solutions. They did and began the difficult job. They kept me informed along the way and as new challenges surfaced they reviewed the options with me and I was able to provide direction. The work took a bit longer than expected due to the many challenges. The job was completed in a very professional way. The unit is working great and the house temperature is more comfortable and balanced than with the original installation. The crew was fantastic.

Their representative came out to the house three times and gave the owner their estimate on the required equipment that would be needed to be replaced. After which the owner chose to go with another provider, even though she was very pleased with Harp L.L.C. Her reason for choosing the other provider, was the fact that she had done business with the other provider for a very long time.

My central air conditioner died and I used a coupon they have on Angie's for diagnosis. The young man was very professional, spent over one hour working on my unit. The final verdict was I will need a new unit, which I expected, since it is 23 years old. They could have fixed it if I really wanted but I am going to wait to get a new furnace/ ac unit. After a repeat explaination to my husband, after explaining everything to me, I expected to have to pay more but I didn't have to. The coupon rate covered the diagnosis! I have used this company in the past also and was pleased with their professional service..that's why I picked them again.

I went on line and requested a quote for all the work I wanted done. They responded within hours. the prices were fair and included removal of my old hot water heater. Making appointments for the work was also easily done on line. The worked was performed over two days as scheduled. The hot water heater was replaced and furnced serviced one day and the ducts cleaned the next. The crews were on time both days. They showed up in clearly marked vans. They wore boot covers and ran plastic across my carpeting and floors to protect them. The service men were clean, polite and courteous. They took the time to explain the process and show me features/settings on my new hot water heater. Work was completed in the timeframe I was given. I was pleasantly surprised that they did not try to sell me more services while they were here. In fact, they actually explained how I could save money on furnace/duct filters etc. They reviewed the invoices with me before they left and I was able to pay with a credit card.

I couldn't ask for better possible service.
Description of Work: This is a review of the integrity of the contractor. I did not have the contractor perform work in my home, but I did have an exceptional experience. I called to inquire about service on my home (I had left a message over the weekend and they promptly called me back Monday morning). I'm a contractor myself in the state of CT and when something goes amiss in my home, I do my best to troubleshoot it. In this instance, I narrowed it down to what I felt was a bad Taco zone valve. I spoke to a polite receptionist who forwarded me to one of the managers, Paul, upon inquiring about some details about what manufacturers they carry. Paul was completely upfront and honest as to what the charges would realistically be to diagnose the problem and have their guys perform the work (he also went as far as to explain the cost scale and what's typically involved in carrying out the work... always appreciated to anyone detail oriented). While I didn't have any other prices to compare it to, I felt the charges were in line with what any reputable licensed contractor would charge for service. Keep in mind that it's always wise to pay a little more to make sure it's done right the first time by the right people. However, Paul did something that really astounded me as a potential customer; after he had seen that I was on the right track and felt that I was diagnosing it properly, he guided me to a simple D.I.Y. solution. I had everything figured out, but the last step which was simply replacing the powerhead instead of replacing the entire valve assembly (this may have been obvious to some folks, but as someone who's not familiar with heating equipment I wasn't sure if the entire valve assembly would have needed to have been replaced). There's a huge amount of cost and labor difference between the two and his simple words of encouragement and advice were all it took for me to carry out the task effectively. Maybe it was because it's the holiday season and it's the day before Christmas and he understands what it's like to have issues with heating when it's cold outside better than anybody, but anyone that can lend a helping hand (especially amidst the craziness that is the holiday season) gets my respect. It would have been so easy to take advantage of the situation knowing it's an easy fix to have said "sure, our guys can do it, but it'll cost you" (making a large profit on what was realistically a 10 minute job), but he looked out for what the best solution was for me and I can't think of a better praise than that of a contractor that does the moral and respectable thing. He even offered to help me if I had any further issues with sourcing the right part (even if it was an outside vendor - that's a class act!). Paul may not have made a sale today, but I can promise you that his simple act of kindness resonated with me and should I need service down the road, I know who I'm going to be calling and who I'm going to be recommending to my friends and family. After getting off the phone with him, I went to a nearby store, picked up a replacement powerhead, installed it and got heat back to the 1st floor of my home, properly controlled by my thermostat in all of about 30 minutes and saved myself some money this holiday season. If Paul's selfless actions are indicative of what HARP Mechanical is all about, I can't think of a better contractor to service your home or business. It's become abundantly clear to me that these folks care and amidst the competition, something small like that really makes all the difference. Good contractors are hard to come by and I applaud Paul for his spirit, knowledge and kindness and I will not hesitate to recommend these folks. If you need any HVAC service or installation please keep the integrity of this contractor in mind; stellar customer service cannot be overstated, especially when it comes to something as critical as HVAC controls (this stuff is crucial to your livelihood and needs to be taken seriously). Thank you so much Paul!

I've been a Gold member for several years. Every year HARP comes for my annual furnace cleaning and tune-up. I can also rely on them to fix my furnace if needs repair for any reason. Every year the technician they send has been superior in his knowledge and thoroughness. This year was no exception. One year I told the technician I had mice in the basement and he fixed an opening in the wall (which the original builder failed to do) and that fixed the problem! Above and beyond the call of duty, for sure. They always call to remind for the appointment, and if they will be early or late they always let you know. (They have never been late, though.) They check everything, and explain all extra costs. I recommend them highly.

I called to get an estimate on removing my old AC units from in back of my house. The gentleman I spoke with was very thorough in describing what would need to be done and how long it would take. I spoke with them over the phone and realized I misread the Deal. I needed work done on my furnace and not just an inspection. Description of Work: I do not recall signing up for the service noted. I asked them to give me an estimate for geo-themal heat for my house. The guy who came was very professional sounding. He told me that my house was not a good candidate for geo-thermal because of the 'large boiler capacity"which I should have questioned because the house is small. The boiler was installed by a friend of my late husband who may have mis-guidedly installed an over-sized boiler, but shouldn't the HARP rep. have recognized the size of the house?

Harp installed the new air conditioner on July 3, 2012. Right from the start it made a large clunking sound when shutting off. Technicians came to listen to the sound but could offer no solutions. Help seemed slow in coming so I placed a negative review on Angie's list. Harp responded and immediately replaced the outside unit with a new one on 9/12/2012. This unit also made a sound on shutdown, although it was not as loud. On the recommendation of the manufacturer (American Standard) they then replaced the fan motor on 9/18/2012 and the sound was much less. The owner, Kevin Moriarity, kept me informed during this process and called a last time on 9/21 to confirm my satisfaction with the result and offered to replace the unit with another even more efficient unit if it proved necessary. It turned out that the manufacturer had several units with this same problem. I chose Harp because they are a local company and are large enough to able to stand by their work. I will use them again.

They said they would be there between 8:00 and 8:30 am and he was there at 8:15. Took a look at the furnace, got his tools and performed the cleaning and the additional nitrous oxide cleaning of some connections.
Description of Work: Needed to have my gas furnace cleaned and checked. They did add $10 to clean the rust off some of the connections (?) which would have thought to be part of the cleaning/inspection but it was a small enought amount to protect the furnace.

My air conditioner made a horrible banging noise so we shut it down. I signed up for their discounted service call and called them the next day to schedule. It was during a heat wave so they could not come out to my home until 1 week later. When the day finally came, they missed their agreed upon appointment time. When I called them to ask what happened, their records showed I was supposed to have called them back to confirm the appointment so I wasn't on the schedule. But this has a happy ending. Instead of rescheduling, they rearranged their appointments the rest of the day and sent out one of their best repair men. He double checked my system and gave it a clean bill of help - no additional service was needed. It continued to work for the rest of the summer.
Description of Work: They came out to perform a service check -up on my air-conditioner.

Thank you for taking the time to read this report. Thank you for going on Angie's List and letting possible future customers know about your service with us. While I would love to take care of everyone on the same day, sometimes it is just not possible. I thank you for sticking it out (literally, since I think it was 90* that week) and waiting for us to get there. Now that you are a customer, we will come out on an overtime basis if you need us to and you can save money and become one of our club members.

Was satisfied with response time for evaluation Not satisfied with no response from company with estimate Company should have told us they weren't interested in doing work. Waited 2 weeks to hear from them with estimate. Felt it was a waste of my time
Description of Work: Called for an estimate for central air installation for single family home. Showed up for evaluation of home on time. Stated he would send us estimate by email and regular mail. After a week, called office for results. Was informed by office they would inform Shawn, person who did evaluation, that we had called. No response from company. Tried one more time to get estimate, was informed by company that they would get back to me. We were told that person who did evaluation knew we had called. Apparently, this company did not need our business. This company should have at least told us they weren't interested in performing this installation. It was a total waste of time trying to use this company. Wouldn't use them.

Dear Member: I am so sorry about this as it was totally our fault and I would be upset and felt like my time was wasted if I were you too. After some investigating and talking with Shawn (the technician out at your house who was supposed to send you your quote), I found out that he did send you the quote in a timely fashion. However the problem was that he forgot to put the period between your first and last name in your email address and therefore you never got it . I know this doesn't help you now, but because of this unfortunate situation we have put a new system in place for all of our Comfort Adviser's to ensure that this doesn't happen to anyone else. From now on when we email someone a quote, it will be standard practice to contact the customer and let them know that we emailed them AND to send the quote regular mail as well. The phone call will ensure that the customer knows there should be an email from us in their in-box and enable them to call and notify us if it is not there. The regular mail will ensure that you at least get the quote within a couple of days regardless of whether or not you got an email. Once again I truly apologize for the mis-communication on our part. I am deeply regretful that this happened as I hate losing the opportunity to take care of a customer and the potentially take care of them for as long as possible.
