Artizon Construction LLC

Artizon has done great works for us in the past having replaced two stair cases at the rear of our home. Based on this we thought nothing of having them do the front / main entry steps / porch as well. Full disclosure - the finished project looked great. However, there were a number of issues and caveats that arose which would prevent us from using Artizon in the future: 1 -- Work was schedule 6 weeks in advance to ensure it would be completed before a large party we were hosting. 2 -- Artizon no longer has carpenters/laborers on staff, they sub out all activities. 3 -- Initial sub-contractor used by Artizon for demo of old steps/porch were nice folks, but never on time and often absent. 4 -- That same sub also did initial foundation / construction work for NEW steps/porch. 5 -- They took short cuts which led to supports and fittings for new porch being in the wrong place. 6 -- Above included NOT putting any supports under the wheels of the dumpster to protect the driveway (big dents left) 7 -- They also made errors in the initial framing of the porch structure. 8 -- After talking with Artizon, initial sub was replaced with new sub, but again availability was an issue. 9 -- Once the 2nd sub got going on the job, slow and steady progress was made with a few minor errors along the way. 10 - During the entire process Artizon representative chiefly came to job site when called with an issue or looking for payment. The finished product looked great and was well constructed but had a number of short cuts and omissions which were bothersome. All previous jobs we had done by Artizon were completed with no detail left undone. This latest job had numerous small details left undone and when we asked Artizon about how these would be completed, we were quoted rather high additional costs. The price of the job was fairly reasonable based on the work to be done. However, the attempted nickel and diming for additional funds was annoying and uncalled for: A) The attempt to obtain $450 for an extra dumpster because Artizon misjudged the about of rumble from the old steps/porch. B) When asked if our driveway would be repaired due to the damage done by overweight dumpster, Artizon shrugged. B) Leaving the tops of the replacement columns completely open to the weather (not filled and caulked). C) The attempt to obtain an additional $500 to paint the columns and do the touch up / priming / painting around banisters, etc. It is understandable that business models need to change over time and that costs incurred must be carefully managed. But when these steps directly interfere with the level of service received and the confidence that a client should have that the job will be done accurately and on time, then that new business model will not work for very long.

I have worked with many contractors. I would not use this particular one. He was unresponsive and slow, continually pushed the start date off into the future, and he never followed through. Work was never completed because he kept adding costs after the initial quote. He strung me along for months.

It was a large and complex job involving many sub-contractors and trades and this contractor managed all of these sub-contractors extremely well -- keeping them on schedule and coordinating superbly. I know something about building and I can say that his electricians and plumbers were top notch. The carpentry work and the necessary breaking up of the cement foundation to lay the pipes was done by his own people as were the framing and extra supports needed to add windows and doors to load-bearing walls. He was well aware of all codes (and exceeded them [which he pointed out as it was one of my primary concerns]) in terms of ensuring the walls were much stronger than required in terms of structural support. His team did all the framing and all the finish carpentry and installation of the windows and doors as well. Beyond the quality, which I feel was really superb (every piece of molding, every window, every sill, one cannot even see a seam and everything appears level to the eye even though the ceiling and floor he had to deal with were not), some other aspects of his delivery were extremely noteworthy: First of all, he held to schedule on what was a 3 month project. (My alarm contractor [who was separate and who had to come in when the framing was in but way before job completion, when he then had to return to finish], remarked to me how incredible he thought my contractors were. He had not expected to be called back to complete his work for another 6 months! He also remarked on the job's quality.) Secondly, from the beginning, he isolated the area of work -- both from the rest of the house as well as from the other areas of the lower level that were finished. He put down tarps and put plastic sheets up on the walls that covered everything and preserved all existing areas, including carpeting, wood work, etc. such that his work -- to the extent humanly possible -- did not impact the rest of the house or the other areas of the lower level that he was not touching. He and his team were great to work with and discussed all the options with us before doing anything -- every detail, e.g., how the tiles would be laid, etc.. He was not the least expensive contractor; but, his work showed extreme quality and was very much worth what we paid.

Wil Lazo and his team did a fantastic job on all aspects of this project. This was a big project and he managed all aspects to keep the project on time, including working with other contractors (electrical, plumbing) outside of his control. The major project was a complete kitchen remodel, which began with a gutting of the existing kitchen and finished with the installation of new cabinets and hardware. His team noticed structural issues and offered solutions to address them. As other reviewers have mentioned, Wil has a great ability to offer design improvements along the way that greatly improve the end result. Also, Wil took great care to ensure the quality of the work was excellent despite any inconvenience to him or his team. For example, he had purchased trim for the new windows and brought those materials to the house. As his team was beginning to install the trim, he made a suggestion on an alternate style that better fit the style of the house. We ended up using his suggestion and the final work product was great. This type of care was exhibited on more than one occasion. As mentioned int he scope of work above, they also installed all new windows, painted the entire interior of the house and refinished floors. They did beautiful custom woodwork on the base of a new staircase. There was nothing they could not do. His team, led by Tony, takes pride in their work and we could not be more pleased with the end result. We would recommend his services for any size/scope renovation project that you are considering.

It was a pleasure dealing with Artizon Construction. Project involved removing damaged cedar siding and replacing with new cedar shakes on one side of the house. The pattern of the existing shingles was carefully matched. The project started one day early and was completed 2 days early. Wil and his team are very professional and responsive.

The job went really well - the contractor was on time, clean, and efficient. I would highly recommend.

Overall, I was very happy with the experience. The workers were very respectful of my home, cleaned up all areas before they left for the evening. Any problems were taken care of quickly and I was always consulted in anything cosmetic before any work was done (i.e. placement and layout of stone, spacing of ceiling lights, etc.) which is very important, in my opinion. My only concern was that no notes were taken during our initial scope of work consultation and items (recessed lights and vent fan) were omitted from the final contract resulting in change orders and additional costs for things that had been requested from the beginning. However, it was an oversight on my part as well, as I should have noticed that they were not included, so make sure you make notes of work you would like done, and compare it with the final contract. Wil, and Artizon Construction take pride in the work they do, and do a lovely job. They are not the least expensive option, but it is important to remember that in this case, you get what you pay for.

All the work was professional and well done. Actually able to move back into that part of the house ahead of schedule. Workers were courteous. No downtime waiting for subs so work was continuous and well planned . Would definitely recommend and would use again, although I hope it's not for hurricane damage.

We had worked with Artizon in the past on a kitchen remodel and did not hestitate to contact them again. They are thorough and do quality work. At first the quote may seem high, but once you work with them you know they are worth every penny because of the quality of their workmanship.

We contracted with this company to have a new roof put on our home. The workmen came as scheduled and completed the job sooner than originally promised. We were impressed with their attention to detail and the quality of their work. The owner was often present supervising the work, making him readily available for any questions we had. The roof looks great and we have been more than satisfied with the service we got from this company. We would recommend them to friends without hesitation.

He had two carpenters do the work. Two came the first day and one on the second day. The work was done very well and the workers were very competent. Wil supervised the project. We found the price to be higher than another Angie's List contractor, but opted to try out Artizon Construction. We were pleased with the work and the quality.

The work was very good. The price was a little high. They worked at a fast pace and the work was done extremely well. They are highly competent carpenters.

After a few hiccups regarding some smaller changes and add ons to the project, the project went quiet smoothly. Wil was not always on site, but his crew was phenomenal, very competent, spoke english, was able to work independently and was always able to answer all our questions. Especially the plumber, Ralph, was great! We wanted a contemporary/modern bathroom and came up with the basic layout ourselves, but Wil was great with the details and came up with very helpful suggestions as the project went along. Also, Wil and his crew were very helpful and offered great advice in our choosing of materials.The bathroom came out even better and more beautiful than we ever imagined possible on our very limited budget! Futhermore, the project was finished not only on time, but a few days early!

We found the Company on Angie's list and called for an estimate. The response was prompt and a detailed estimate was received in 2-3 days. We compared with another competitor and selected Artizon. The owner was knowledgable and upfront about what he would do to solve the problems. The work was done promptly, neatly and successfully-----the leaks were eliminated. I would recommend Artizon to other potential customers.

Overall we enjoyed the experience with Artizon and plan to ask Wil to help us more in the future.

From the original quote to subsequent visits to discuss materials and price, it all was handled in a very professional manner. The crew was very polite and responsive to questions and requests. Slight modifications were not an issue for them to address. Payment schedule was easily agreed to and our deposit check was not cashed until the work had begun nearly 2 weeks later (start date was at our request). In short, Artizon thinks jobs through beforehand so they are ready for each step of the process. We highly recommend Wil and his team. The price was a bit high but in this case were did indeed get what we paid for - excellent craftsmanship.

Will did an excellent job. The crew was friendly and composed by skilled professionals. The job was done neatly and quickly. I'd recommend this contractor.

My experience with Artizon Construction was excellent from start to finish. Wil Lazo was very timely in providing a cost estimate for the initial work, which was a custom fireplace mantel. We had a sketch and a photo of what we wanted and he was able to conceptualize the project and help us problem solve to get to a final design that worked with the correct proportions and dimensions of the fireplace and the room. Wil suggested constructing a small piece of mantel as a mock-up so that we could get a sense for the scale of the mantel within the room. This was incredibly helpful and Wil even came over one evening after work so we could discuss the details in person. The final mantel is exactly what we wanted and looks great. The pricing was also very fair and they completed it within a few days. Wil also constructed a custom sized closet and shelves in our garage in order to create a "mudroom" space. Again, he was able to help us conceptualize the final product, and the closet is exactly what we wanted. He and his carpenters were very reliable and a pleasure to work with. I will absolutely call Artizon Construction again for future carpentry needs.

The overall experience was terrific. Wil made sure the work was perfect and now we have a beautiful basement that adds tons of new living space to our home at a very reasonable cost.

The person who came to give the estimate was very polite, very professional and he took a very precise measurements. I was impressed with him.

Will is the owner. I would consider hiring them again. They do really good work.

They were pretty good. There were a couple of small issues that had to be addressed but they were very accommodating and made everything just like we wanted it. They provided a professional and quality service.
