They were very professional up to the point of the extra charge for work that I needed on top of the original price.
Description of Work: They said the job was common and that it would cost approximately $300.00. The control that sends water from the tube to the shower head was not working properly. Much of the water did not reach the shower head. They fixed it so that almost all the water went to the shower head. While not yet finished they told me that to fix it completely would involve more work and cost another $700.00. I thought that the agreed on price of $300.00 would have completely solved the problem. I did not have the additional work done.

Advance Plumbing responded fairly quickly in mid September at first to look at and diagnose my plumbing problem. We agreed that two new heating zones were to be introduced and appropriate work to install them in the current setup. I agreed with everything he said. He sent me an estimate dated 9/18/2012 which I signed off on and sent back both by email (after scanning it) and by regular mail the very next day. Two or three weeks later he called apologizing that somehow my response got buried until just then and he would call me back in "a day or two and get me scheduled." It is now November 15th, and I have not heard from him since. He may not know it until he sees this review, but I am afraid he is off the job. I had chosen him in the first place because of such high marks on Angie's List, and I have no reason to doubt all those other great reviews I read but, well... I guess you win some and you lose some. I will not be using him. Sorry to pull down such otherwise high ratings.
Description of Work: No work done.

Called company and they responded next day for estimate on a Saturday. Estimate was 850.00 and we were told it could take 2 to 4 hours due to pex piping is tricky to work with. They also went into basement to check and said piping is behind wall and they will have to remove sheet rock. They came today and were here about an hour. They removed a small piece of sheet rock next to washer, added a few feet of next pex piping, and a new shut off. Parts less than 150.00.
Description of Work: House is 10 years old. Shut off valve for washer on second floor did not operate. Advanced plumbing estimate was 850.00 as he said work could take from 2 to 4 hours due to home having pex piping. Today plumber arrived was done in an hour. Cut small hole in sheet rock, put on in new value and added a few feet of new piping. Price was absolutely inappropriate for the amount of work. During the estimate he checked basement and said piping is behind wall. He led us to believe that the piping might have to be replaced all the way to the basement. Used them due to there great rating on Angies list.

Jeff was very prompt, pleasant and personable. He was very thorough, and determined that it wasn't a water leak at all, but rather a stain from the built-in soap dispenser. While here, I also had him check out a bathroom sink that didn't hold water when I wanted to soak items. He worked on the plunger and quickly fixed it. I was only charged for a service call - $45.00. I had printed out their discount coupon offer, and as a result, only had to pay $20. I certainly would use them again!

The serviceman arrived late but they called in advance to let me know that he was running late. He looked over my system and explained to me that the booster pump was an unneccessary addition to the system since the well pump was capable of providing the water pressure levels that the booster pump had been installed to support. Since the booster pump had aready failed advised he bypassing (there were already shut off valves in place) or removing it entirely and adjusting the well pump and pressure tank to boost water pressure to the house. I opted to remove the booster pump which he did after adjusting the well pump. It's been a week and the results are better than when the booster pump was working because the new minimum pressure is much higher than before and there is less of a differential in pressure.
Description of Work: Removed a failed booster pump and adjusted well pump and pressure tank to provide the same pressure levels that the booster pump was installed to achieve.

Chris got us both heat and hot water when others couldn't!! We have a condo heat/hot water heater combined unit. This unit is foreign made, had to be rebuilt by the gas company one winter, and it hadn't been working right for years. It began malfunctioning so badly that we only had hot water when the heat was turned on high. Even then it was hot for a few minutes then went cold. We put up with it way too long, asking friends and other plumbers we knew to help out. They often said it is an odd unit and they weren't familiar with it, couldn't do anything more, and agreed we should look to buy a new one. Finally we decided to go on Angie's List, and called a few recommended people/companies for quotes to repair or replace. We received one quote for $9,000! Mike Mancini from Advanced Plumbing responded to our call very quickly. Chris came out to see the unit the next day, and although also not familiar with this brand of unit, said he thought it was repairable. Chris contacted the maker's technical support folks, and got us hot water right away! He then worked out the key part that was the source of the issues, and as soon as the part came in, he was here fixing the unit so now we have both heat and hot water again! He saved us thousands of dollars with his skills, and saved us comparable worry with his friendliness, caring, and professionalism. We've highly recommend Advanced Plumbing to our neighbors, and to everyone looking for help with their heater or hot water problems.

They were extremely professional. The estimate was quick and reasonable and they were willing to work with my particular situation very well. The installed incredibly fast and were quick to return when an issue arose in which they were able to remedy very quickly. There was a bit of a leak but it had nothing to do with their work, a knob wasn't turned all the way off. They did bring up some unforseen problems and suggested solution that worked within my budget so I will be using this company again and I thank them for their patience. My husband and I are very pleased with their work. Steph and James

Within two weeks of moving into our home we discovered water damage on the ceiling underneath our bathroom. We contacted several plumbers listed on Angies List and Joe from Advance Plumbing and Heating was the fastest to respond. He fixed the leak in our bathtub that same day and tried to be as minimally invasive as possible to save on cost. He also noticed that our pipes were vibrating and making noise every time we turned on the water. He told us that this is typically a problem with the incoming water pressure being too high. Normal should be 70 or 80. Ours was 110. The house inspector missed this when I purchased the house. After a talk with multiple neighbors, everyone on our street has this problem. Joe then came back to install an overpressure valve and took the time to show us how it works, how to check the pressure and how to turn off the system if there is ever any problem. We are very happy with his work, he took the time to explain every problem and what everything would cost before hand. We will be having him back to do future upgrades soon.
Description of Work: Repaired leak in bathtub drain that required opening the wall behind and ceiling below the leak. Installed a overpressure valve after finding that our water pressure was too high. Installed waterline for refrigerator.

They were unable to give me any kind of estimate on what it would cost over the phone. Told me it would be $40 just to have someone come out. The person came out and said it would cost $236 to unstop the sink. I declined to have him work on the sink for $236. He mentioned it was a piping and materials issue. Our previous plumber over the phone said it would probably cost about $150 plus a senior discount.

Response from Advance Plumbing & Heating Inc - Newington
For new customers, our general policy is to not give a verbal quote over the phone without seeing and diagnosing your problem first (we give our current customers an estimate because we are already familiar with their plumbing systems). However, for all customers it is also our policy to give you an onsite, exact quote to fix the problem with an 100% guarantee. Your plumbing issue is a perfect reason why we have these policies. In your case, our licensed plumber found the drain to have a large blockage. Given the age (70+ years) and visual condition of the drain pipe, there was a very good chance the drain pipe would break, or leak, using our snaking equipment. So, in his professional opinion he determined it was best to repipe the clogged area and leave you with a drain system likely to last several more years. Had we quoted you a price for a simple clog removal (at a price similar to the one you received from the other plumber, with the Angie's discount) and the pipe were to break or leak, we would have had to incur the cost of repiping your drain since we provide "upfront" pricing. Since 1954, we have tried our best to adhere to these policies. Our long list of satisfied customers trust the judgment of our professionals and prefer our upfront pricing and our 100% satisfaction guarantee. Respectfully - Michael Mancini, President Advance Plumbing & Heating, Inc.

Everything went well: the wait time was minimal, the repair was smoothly completed in a short amount of time, and Joe, the technician was courteous and thorough in his explanation of the task. This is a very good company.
Description of Work: Joe L. arrived about an hour after I called with Mike Mancini, the owner, to repair a leaking exterior pipe. Joe replaced the outside spigot, repaired the pipe (which had burst some time ago), and installed a new 1/2" ball valve to replace the old one which had failed and had caused the pipe to leak.

I was told that they were going to come today at 1pm. At 1:41 I called the company to find out where the estimator was. Apparently he had called and left a message at 1:21 for me which did not come through. I was told that he is at the airport picking up his wife. Why is he at the airport when he made an appointment with me? I took a half day to fit his schedule and I wasn't even given the courtesy of a phone call prior to the appointment start. When he was at the airport at 12:30 he should have called knowing he would be late. Instead the call came well after he was set to arrive. I am self employed and took a half day to fit his schedule and I am now sitting without a plumber and without my clients because of him. I would strongly recommend NOT using this company since they don’t respect their clients.

I called Advanced on Friday at approximately 6:00 PM, expecting to get an answering machine. They answered, and asked if they could return my call in a few minutes, which they did. They worked around my schedule and scheduled a service technician to come the very next Monday. They called approximately 20-minutes in advance as planned so I could meet them at home since i had many errands to run that day. The communication throughout the process was excellent. The technician, Jeff, was cleancut and professional. I showed the technician the old faucet from the outside and the basement. He recommended a frost-free sillcock, which is what I wanted anyway since I was tired of dealing with the old, leaky sillcock. I thought perhaps I should replace a second sillcock while the technician was there, so I showed him that one. It was a bit more tricky to replace the second one given the configuration of the joists and foundation wall. He mentioned that he thought he only had one replacement on the truck, but I got the impression that he didn't want to do two of them cause it was 3:30 by the time we met at the house. Of course, that's just speculation on my part. He retreived the new sillcock from the truck, which was brand new in the box, and explained it's features to me. He then quoted me the installed price, which seemed to be a fixed price for that particular item, although I didnt ask if it was negotiable. He worked for approximately 1.5 hours, and was on his way. The new sillcock works perfectly with no leaks, and the installation and workmanship were excellent. He was tidy and cleaned up after his work and took away all the old piping and parts. The only "negative" was the price. It seems quite high for the amount of time he spent, but I realize that he's an expert and I'm actually paying for the time avoided by doing it myself, which would have been at least 4-5 hours, plus a bunch of new tools and equipment that I don't own. Also, i was happy to hear that they were going to do the job right then and there after I agreed to the price. I was expecting to have to schedule the work for a week out or more.
Description of Work: Removal of an old sillcock (exterior hose faucet), removal of approximately 3-feet of older bronze piping inside the basement, installation of new soldered copper piping in the basement and installation of a new frost-free sillcock, including slightly enlarging the existing hole through the house's wooden siding.

I called Mike Mancini who said he didn't need to make an on-site estimate; the job would cost $500 to $700 and he could not get around to it until "sometime next week" (even though I told him my wife was returning from vacation the next week and I needed the job done before she got back). I called Mylo Plumbing and Heating and they were on the job 1/2 hour after my call; they charged a proper and reasonable $195 upon completion.

Deal Member - Thanks for the wake up call! The everyday demands of operating a business are time consuming for every owner; especially small business owners. We wear many hats including President, Chief Financial Officer, Operations Manager and Sales/Marketing manager. In this busy environment, occasionally we lose focus on our single most important business asset.........our customers. As you can see from the previous reviews of my company (and 3 consecutive years of Super Service Awards), this rarely happens. However, your review is an excellent reminder that that no matter how busy I get, customer service should always be my #1 priority. Thanks again. My bathtub drain had been slow to drain for a while and no amount of snaking or baking soda/vinegar was making it better. I emailed the company at the end of last week and got a phone call back Monday morning. They were able to schedule me in for between 2-6pm Tuesday afternoon. When Joe came to the house, he let me show him what was wrong and also explain what I had done so far. Based on what he saw, he walked me through what he thought the problem was and how he planned to fix it. He also explained why the snaking I had done hadn't been able to clear out the clog. Overall, he did a very thorough and professional job getting the bathtub drain cleaned out. He made sure multiple times that the tub was draining properly before he considered the job finished. I was very satisfied with the results and will definitely call Advanced Plumbing & Heating again in the future.

I called because our water heater's performance was spotty recently. I spoke to Tim on the phone, who had me take pictures of my current set up and email them to him so that he could give me as clear an idea of what to expect when someone came to look it over. I was pretty sure we'd need a new unit as our current one is at least ten years old and putting more than a couple hundred into it would be a waste, but I didn't tell him that. The next day was the 4th of July holiday so we made an appointment the day after that. He had to ask for a large window because he wasn't sure they had a 40 gallon gas heater in their shop and they might need to time to go to a warehouse and get one. This all seemed reasonable to me. I was surprised when Joe, who would be doing our work, called on the morning of July 4th to confirm and ask a couple of questions to help him be prepared. He also warned me that they might be able to get to my place as soon as 9:00 a.m. but maybe not until later. Again, I was fine with that. I don't mind waiting when the communication is clear. He said he'd call me around 9 the next morning to give me a better idea when to expect him. Today, I waited until almost 11 but Joe had not yet called. I called the main office and they promptly apologized and told me that Joe would be calling shortly, which is what happened. Joe called, apologized for not calling earlier, and told me that due to unforeseen circumstances on their first job, they wouldn't be able to get to my place until around 12:30. They were at my house by 12:35. Again, while others might be upset by the wait, I understand that stuff comes up that cannot be planned for in these situations; my only disappointment was in not getting the promised 9:00 a.m. call, but they apologized and then were accurate in predicting when they would show up. Once here, they were clear and frank in explaining the situation and in giving me pricing options for repair vs. replacement. I chose replacement which they did neatly and efficiently in less than two hours. Joe also told me how to locate a $50 off online coupon, which I really appreciated. They include removal and disposal of the old unit in their price. They refused to take a tip when I offered one. In general, I was very pleased. They communicated well, were professional, efficient, and respectful. They left their work area very clean and showed me how to turn the temp up or down, how to reignite the pilot light if necessary, etc.. Within 45 minutes after they left, my hot water is really nice and hot. Advance was the second company I called on this job. The first company--which had very good ratings and awards on Angie's list--never showed up for the appointment we had made and never returned my call. Advance, on the other hand, followed up quite well.

I emailed Advance after finding them here, and the owner emailed me immediately and we spoke the next morning, a Friday. It was not an emergency, but I got an appointment for 10 a.m. on Monday. Not only was he (Joe) on time, he was about 40 minutes early, calling in advance to make sure it was a good time. He checked in the basement and found where water was leaking there as well; gave me two estimates, one if the lead pipe bend had to replaced and one if it did not. He removed the toilet and found it did not have to be replaced (to my surprise, I'm used to having the worst case scenario happen!). He resealed the wax and cleaned up the work space thoroughly (even wearing booties to not track dirt through the house), tested it, rechecked the basement, and even adjusted the fill valve because I mentioned the toilet ran sometimes for too long after flushing. The price came in exactly how it was estimated. The entire visit took no more than 35-40 minutes. He was pleasant and thoroughly professional, would definitely call again. I did not compare prices to other places but it seemed reasonable to me (the estimated price was before he applied a $15 service call coupon from Angie's List).

Call in early AM on this date for a water heater that did not work. The provider answered my first call. I was told I would be called half an hour before they came between 3-6pm. No one called me before 4pm. I called to see if I had been forgotten-was then told someone had been calling me, but i "wasn't answering." Believe this to be disingenuous, I called twice(in AM and 4pm) and left the same phone number twice. The technician said someone was coming to my house and would wait for me. My wife came to meet him and let the plumber in. He spent a total of 10 minutes in my house. He plugged my water heater into a different outlet, charged me the above value, and recommended an electrician to call. Now.. I did not try what he did. I should have. He came to my house for a "service call." and I was charged that. I did not ask what a service call would cost and should have. My water heater works, my family can bathe, and this will not ruin my finances. But do not feel I got a good value for my money. Question whether this was a "service call" given the effort expended on my account.

Response from Advance Plumbing & Heating Inc - Newington
When our professional service technician arrives at your door, many costs have already been incurred just to get him and our truck out there -- ready and able to complete the job. When you called our company requesting service, you talked to a person not an answering machine. This is our 24 hours a day, seven days a week service. We provided you with a professional highly trained, licensed service technician. The service truck driven to your home is fully stocked with thousands of parts and thousands of dollars of tools and equipment to make necessary repairs any time, night or day. Dispatchers, inventory personnel, managers, office help, specialized training, test and safety equipment, employee benefits, and more -- there are many costs that you, as a customer, never realize go into providing professional, efficient service to all of our customers. A qualified service organization's costs begin with the salary of the professional technician. This amount is the same whether the technician is actually making repairs on customer premises, traveling to keep service appointments, or participating in training programs to sharpen his skills. The cost of doing business (overhead) must also be added to the technician's salary. These overhead costs can amount to substantially more than the technician's salary. Our technician quickly and accurately diagnosed your non-plumbing problem and charged you a minimum “service charge” of $85. When all the costs incurred to service your problem are calculated, they exceed $85. Given the above explanation, we are confident that you will find our “service charge” reasonable.

He arrived on time and was very professional. After checking out our hot water system thoroughly, including the oil-fired boiler, he removed and replaced the old tub valve and recommended some changes to the boiler settings (we have to contact our heating-oil provider for that aspect of the repair because we have a boiler service contract). The final charge was somewhat expensive, but that was because the technician was in the house quite a while as he performed various tests. They called back a few days later to make sure we were happy with the service.
Description of Work: The technician investigated a problem with low water pressure in our shower. He replaced the main tub valve and diverter.
