I had the guy to come by and check some pump. They checked to find that it was functioning properly. I was a little put off by the pressure on the phone. It wasn't a completely satisfactory exchange that I don't know whether I'll go back to them. The charges were exactly what Angie's listed and that is what caught my eye. It was fine except that there was pressure to buy some other products or other services from them. The guy who came here didn't seem to understand or did not know that I had already paid the bill. He didn't do a lot of work maybe just turned it on or off. He wasn't here for even 15 minutes. They came out when they said they would, they came at the high end of the time which is okay. They arrived 10 minutes before 1:00 pm. It was all right, not unusual. I will not use them again.
Description of Work: They came to check some pump to see if it was functioning properly.

I am sorry to hear that you are not completely satisfied with the sump pump service provided. Budget Dry will be happy to refund your full payment. Most of our clients find our office staff extremely polite and very helpful. I am slightly confused by your comments of pressure. Utilizing the Angies List system sometimes our office needs to obtain additional information, such as, your address or phone number to confirm the appointment, and your email to send you a written explanation of our inspection. Occasionally we have to engage the customer to coordinate the scheduled time. Other than those issues there is no additional dialogue and absolutely no pressure or attempts to sell any products. The technician did suggest a new pump since your current pump was 8-10 years old and didn’t have some of the safety features available with today's technology. However his explanation was only part of an educational process. I am sorry if you felt you were being sold. Again I am sorry your experience didn’t meet your standards . We have tried on 2 occasions to contact you to get additional information about your experience.

New dehumidifier works beautifully, made basement smell fresh (no basement smell at all) within 24 hours. My previous dehumidifier was failing and too small to begin with. The only problem I had was with the condensate pump which shorted if there was a power surge and caused system to stop. By connecting that to a power surge strip I had no further problem.
Description of Work: In August 2014 rep analyzed basement humidity and recommended Sante Fe Classic ($1920 with condensate pump, extra filters). I September 2014 tested existing sump pump which was failing, installed new pump plus back up battery pump ($1570).

I really like working with Budget Dry. They are responsive, honest, and they do really good work. We've hired them twice now, and both times have been great. The first time, they dug out an old drain that was leaking and replaced it and added a second sump pump. The second time we called them was for a dehumidifier for our basement. I'll definitely be calling them again for additional basement projects.

Budget Dry Basement was hired to install a system in my mother?s basement. My mother is 92 years old so I negotiated the transaction and told the sales person I wanted to be present when the work was performed to deal with any issues that might arise. He scheduled the work for Mar. 20 and I made plans to be there. On Mar. 16 Budget?s crew showed up! Because they were early, I had not prepared my mother?s basement by moving things out of the way, so the Budget crew did the moving. They moved countless possessions away from the walls and dumped them in the middle of the basement and then did the work. The work was of good quality and the crew according to my mother was polite, though I still did not want them there without my being present, as I had clearly stated to the sales person. They left the basement a complete mess and it took me hours and hours and two visits to my mother?s house to put it back together. If the items had been moved carefully instead of carelessly, as I would have done, it would have been easy to put the basement back together but instead it was a huge chore. I contacted Budget and received a rude and combative reply from the owner. First, he disavowed what the sales person said about the scheduled date (?I cannot attest to any conversation you had with Jeff [the sales person]?) but told me that the job had always been scheduled for Mar. 16 because a clerk in his office had written ?March 16-17? on a folder in his office. Unfortunately, I do not have access to the folders in Budget?s offices; I relied on what the sales person said, which, according to the owner, doesn?t matter. He also claimed that my mother had been informed of the date, but no one contacted me even though I had negotiated the transaction and had told the sales person that it was important to me that I be there when the crew arrived. The owner went on to say that normally he would have charged $750 to move the possessions but as a concession had not done so! If his crew had shown up when they were supposed to, however, the possessions would have been moved by me and I would have done it properly. He also said he would send a crew to put the basement back together but would charge $75 per man per hour plus a $135 fee! Clearly a company to be avoided. The work was good and the sales person was a good guy but ownership apparently does not think the company should be bound by what its sales people say. In my case, as soon as there was an issue the owner stepped in and behaved as indicated above. Beware!

We're sorry that the customer has such a twisted view of events. As a 4 time, repeat super service award winner, our reputation speaks for itself. The complainant's mother, our customer, was QUITE SATISFIED! We aim to please our customers, not every member of their families. We had a scheduled and confirmed installation date and the customer was supposed to have the basement cleared before then. We never altered or changed the date and we communicated the date to the complainant's mother, who is our customer. A week before, we called to remind all parties involved of the scheduled date. Our schedule was out about 6 weeks at the time so there was no way we could have done the job earlier if we were begged to do so. The customer's son, (the complainant) was to move the possessions. When we showed up, the basement looked like a flea market. We had to dispatch extra men to move old canning goods and boxes upon boxes away from the wall, something the son was supposed to do. It took 14 man hours to move every item and dismantle all the shelving. We piled all the items in the center of the basement as neat and orderly as we could. Even though the contract calls for a moving fee to be assesses, knowing the customer was an elderly woman, we waived the fee. We thought we were being considerate. Several weeks later we got a call from the customer's son complaining about how we moved the items. It was his first visit to the house since the work was done. If he had planned on moving the items, one would have expected him to arrive before whatever date he erroneously assumed was the installation date. Instead, weeks go by and then we get an email DEMANDING that we come back and move all the items to their original locations. This is work that was not in the contract and as such, we have the right to charge for it. The complainant thought our prices were unreasonable so we suggested hiring a moving company. The complainant threatened to "expose us" unless we complied with his requests. He repeatedly demanded that we do work above and beyond the scope of the contract or risk a negative review. That's blackmail and we don't bend to unwarranted threats. If anyone would like to see pictures of the amount of items we moved, free of charge, we'll be glad to share them. Also, I ask Angie's List to review this complaint as (1) the complainant was not our customer and (2) the complainant tired to blackmail us into doing free work and only posted the review after we refused to give in to his demands. I quote an email from the complainant here "Before I go forward with an aggressive campaign to make the world aware, through Home Advisor and Yelp and Angie's List, of what happened, I wanted to afford you the opportunity to send a couple of men to the house to help me or my mom's caretaker put the place back together."

We found a small puddle in the corner of our basement the day we moved into our new house. Worried, we scheduled an assessment from Budget Dry and Connecticut Basement Systems. Neither found anything urgently wrong the with basement, but both mentioned we might want to consider a long-term solution, such as a small drain, to reduce water seepage. A few other people we had in the house also inspected the puddle and didn't see anything alarming. Two weeks later, our town was hit with a nor'easter, and dozens of gallons of water began to spill out of the puddle, flooding the basement. I called Connecticut Basement Systems, but they would not be able to send a representative out for several days. Budget Dry's sales rep, Jack, was in our house within a few hours. He jumped right in, helping me shopvac out the water, lifting and emptying the 10-gallon buckets of water that I could not carry. He said we would need a french drain in the area where the water seemed to be coming from. But then he took the shopvac to the finished part of our basement, and began to carefully vacuum water from along each of the walls, revealing that water was actually spilling in from the base of every wall. This meant that we would need a full perimeter french drain. Jack actually seemed heartbroken to give us this news. He was very sympathetic to the cost and disruption it would cause, especially because we were new homeowners. He lent us his own personal pump to help remove water overnight, and somehow he and his office arranged to have a team install the perimeter french drain the following day. This was evidently quite the feat, as they were fully booked for several weeks, but our situation was clearly an emergency and we were given priority. The actual drain installation was very stressful, but I'm sure any new homeowner would say the same about any construction project. A crew of four men did the installation, jackhammering out a trench along the walls and maneuvering carefully around a sewer pipe. The whole process was highly professional. The only issue we had was that the four crew members had patchy English, and their foreman/translator was occupied at another job. Fortunately, the owner, Marc, was able to explain everything to me over the phone, and Jack was also available on the phone all day between assessments to allay any concerns. There was one hiccup where it turned out our sump pump container was too small and that we'd need to replace the container and pump, which added an additional cost to the job, but in the end, it worked out just fine. In the middle of the two-day job, Jack even dropped by to check out the work and answer our questions. The whole project is covered under Budget Dry's lifetime warranty, which gave us enormous peace of mind. We continued to work with Budget Dry after the installation of the drain and new pump. We needed to replace a sewer pipe, and when the plumber wanted to rip the pipe out of the ground next to the drain, Budget Dry offered to send someone out to inspect the plumber's work so that our warranty would not be invalidated. We spoke to them several times about the issue, and they were always very clear about wanting to accommodate us and maintain their warranty. (We ended up not needing to rip out the pipe.) When the cement over the drain developed cracking, they sent someone over to fix it, free of charge. It was fixed in under an hour. The biggest test took place over the last few weeks, when our enormous mounds of snow began to melt. I have no doubt that if the drain had not been installed, we would have seen a flood of icy melt-water fill the basement, but with the new french drain, our basement has been totally dry. Our case was traumatic, but Budget Dry handled it exceptionally well, and with great humanity and sympathy for our frayed nerves. I recommend their services wholeheartedly. We plan to use their services again this year when we install a vapor barrier.

Budget Dry installed basement system for my front part of the basement. During the installation I realized the water discharge was on the yard, 20 feet short to the street and it?s not what we agreed. It was from my understanding the water discharge should reach the street. So that it won?t cause any problem to my neighbor or my yard. So, I called Marc of Budget Dry to clarify the issue. Marc said if I wanted the pipe extended to the street it will cost me and the sump pump need to be upgraded to support the extra length of the pipe. He said that if there is problem in the future he will fix it. Very soon after the basement system installed, there was heavy rain and the discharged water flooded my neighbor?s yard not to mention my own the yard. My neighbor was not happy at all. I called Marc and he said he could simply extend the pipe with no cost to me if I sign up for the basement system installation for the crawl space, another half of the basement. Otherwise it will cost me at least $600 to get it done. He does not honor his word and he simply does not care about his customer. He was friendly and helpful until now. I choose Budget Dry because of it?s A rating in Angieslist and it is misleading. The level of customer service they have does not deserve A rating.

[member name removed], I'm sorry you feel that way, though I'm confused because you had us back out to your home on 8/14, a little more than a year from the initial install to perform an annual maintenance on your pump. Why would you do that if you felt our professionalism was worth an "F"? But I'm glad to see that your basement has remained dry! Regarding your complaints here, Marc line itemized a proposal to extend that discharge further, But we cannot put the water into the street, into a storm drain, or into the sewer as all of those are illegal. Your request that we extend the pipe all the way to the street is asking us to jeopardize our license AND risk serious injury and/or death to innocent people if the water were to collect in the street and freeze. No way would we ever put life or safety at risk with ANY of our work. There's not one yard in America that is more important than someone's life, period. On our end here, we responded to your inquires promptly and proposed a solution. I can't help if you didn't agree with the price. Marc was 100% correct in stating that the pump you currently have would not support pushing water beyond where your current discharge ends. Just like a car company would tell you not to tow beyond a certain amount on your vehicle, the pumps have limits and we have to respect those. You contracted us for a specific amount of discharge. On your invoice you will see that every item is line itemized. I believe we worked diligently with you. We provided 3 different solutions to your problem and you chose one of them. We were also very flexible in how we took your deposit. I'm sorry you feel this way, but my hands are tied due to the topography of your yard, your stone patios, and the solution that you chose to proceed with.

Contractor arrived on time for the inspection. He was courteous. Asked about the problem and what my needs were. We proceeded to the basement where he found evidence of lime deposits on the interior walls from seepage. Ascertained that the amount was not unusual. Asked what my possible plans were for the basement and time frame. We discussed possibilities. He then did an inspection of the exterior of the house and contributing drainage problems on the seepage wall in question. A course of action was formulated to alleviate the problem and draw the moisture away from the basement wall. He made the assessment and submitted an estimate on the cost. I told him I wasn't ready to commit at that time, but I did take his card and information for future consideration, The visit went quite well. There was no pressure to commit at anytime. Basically, these are the facts, these are the possibilities, this is what we can do and this is an estimate on what it will cost.
Description of Work: Inspected the basement for seepage. Inspected the exterior for drainage problems. Determined alternatives to alleviate problem. Formulated and explained course of action to address the problem. Provided an estimate for the job.

The reps from Budget Dry were friendly and professional. They listened to our concerns about moisture and drainage, recommended steps we could take on our own and outlined the services they provide, which they did not feel were necessary in our case. We did purchase a high-level dehumidifier from them, something our structural engineer had also recommended, and are quite happy with it. I didn't feel pressured into spending unnecessarily.

From the moment I called their office I was treated with respect and non-pressuring sales people. They confirmed appointments, were timely, and efficient in their analysis and work. They listened to both my husband and I and checked all areas of concern before making recommendations. They were modest in their recommendations and did try to pressure us into things that would be totally unnecessary. On the day of installation, the technician was polite, respectful and efficient as well. He was sure to explain everything to me prior to leaving. The day after installation I noticed that something looked a bit off on the air vent and they came back that day to address it, even though it was something they probably could have talked me through on the phone. I would recommend them for any waterproofing needs.

I respectfully disagree with the customers recollection of what transpired. We actually discounted the work to meet their budget and the work was installed without and delay or complications. In August, approximately 5 months after the installation the customer called with a issue that they had some water in the basement. We did send a tech to inspect and determined that he water was from a water heater and not related to the installation. I do agree that it did take a few days to schedule the visit since the leak coincided with a heavy rain. As is our policy we did not charge the customer for a service call even though the problem was unrelated to the work preformed.

He diagnosed it very quickly. Within a few minutes he said it is not coming from their side, it is coming from the pipe and we went upstairs and said it is from the powder room. He was quick and accurate. The first guy wanted $12,000. This guy didn't say he wanted $5,000. We would have thought that was a good deal. He showed how awful the first guy was. He was great. There were no problems.
Description of Work: Budget Dry came out and fixed the problem. He found that the water was coming from a little leak in our powder room. He told us to get a plumber to fix the leak so we did that, and they sealed up the basement for $200.

The waterproofing went fine. Very professional crew came and excavated around the perimeter of basement and installed the system then repoured the concrete. We had no issues with that work. They were punctual, cleaned up after themselves and did a good job. The major major problem was with the subcontractor the company used to re-install the wood framing and re drywall the finished room. His mistakes were further compounded by the very poor response of the company to his horrible workmanship. He worked over three days to re-place the wood studs that had been removed around the room and had to replace the "baseplate" floor studding as well. He did not properly align the bottom floor stud (in some cases it was off by 3+ inches) and most of the studs he replaced were crooked. There is no way that drywall can be installed on the framing that he built. He later admitted that he had showed up for the job after a "3 day bender" (his words). The work he did to re-stud and re-drywall the bedroom was a disaster. He had to re-do it and it still was not level. (We have since repainted the room and there is a clear line around the room at knee height where he replaced the bottom half of the wall as it bows outward. When the carpet was reinstalled and baseboards replaced, the baseboard had to be cut down by 1.5 inches because the new wall was off that much from the pre-existing wall. The contractor we used for the carpet job noticed right away that the walls were not done correctly. None of the baseboard will lie flush against the wall and will need to be caulked extensively (one wall has a gap of 1/4"). When we attempted to rectify this situation with customer service, we had a major run-around. The customer service manager was dismissive, condescending and not at all helpful. Ultimately the owner of the company came out. We ended up giving up on getting the finished room done correctly, and settled for a sub-par job because we need the room to be finished. We were able to reach a compromise on the stud-work in the rest of the basement. We were told we would be given a 2-year warranty (instead of 1 year) on the workmanship. Despite a follow-up email requesting this in writing, the company has not yet responded to us. We would like to recommend this company to others because of the quality workmanship with the waterproofing. However, as long as they continue to use this subcontractor for their carpentry needs, we do NOT recommend them. We also believe they need to improve their response to valid customer complaints.
Description of Work: We hired this company to waterproof our basement after a leak. As part of the job they had to cut a pre-framed (studs only) wall around the exterior of the basement, and remove the lower half of two walls in a finished room. They installed a sub-floor grate system, sump pumps and a dehumidifier. They also sealed three cracks in the wall.

Unfortunately, I agree with most of the homeowners comments concerning the quality of the work by the gentleman who did our studding and Sheetrock The carpenter had a problem squaring the studs to the floor. When the Sheetrock was attached it was unsatisfactory and had to be redone. We had the Sheetrock redone but was not able to satisfy the customer. We voided the invoice for the additional studding. I do take issue with the customers comments concerning our response time. When the customer called we rearranged our schedule to get out within 48 hours, at a time that allowed her to take her daughter to the movies. When she was still not satisfied we also came out on Easter Sunday in attempt to resolve the problem. We take full responsibility for the incident and have changed subs for both carpentry and Sheetrock. We do understand how a customer can get frustrated if you fail to do the job right the first time. No excuses We have also added a Construction manager to supervise on the few occasions our employees are not directly preforming the work.

We'd scheduled an appointment for 12:00PM, but Mark was able to stop by even earlier, which was much appreciated. After inspecting the leak in the brick wall, he identified an hydraulic cement patch as the cause of the leak, and recommended we contact a mason to repair the wall itself, rather than purchase services from Budget Dry. Although Budget Dry didn't actually perform any work on our home, I wanted to leave a review here, as I would definitely use them for any future work. Having dealt with plenty of contractors over the years, it's always a pleasure to deal with an honest, professional company that recommends appropriate fixes, even if their advice is to go to a different contractor (in this case a mason). Having just relocated to Connecticut, it's great to add the name of someone I can trust to my list of contractors, and would recommend them to family and friends based on my interaction today.
Description of Work: Mark from Budget Dry inspected a leak in an area of a brick wall in our basement.

Overall, the project went well and we achieved the desired outcome (a dry basement). We encountered a number of unexpected challenges along the way (e.g., solid granite rock formations found below basement floors). The team is solution oriented and they did a great job of solving all of the issues.

Worked fine with storm, true test will be in April. Cleaned up pretty well afterwards. They were also careful in my flower garden and saved my perennials that they had to move. Entire project took a little over two days.
Description of Work: Created a trench around the perimeter of the inside basement wall by cutting through the concrete, removing soil and placing crushed stone. Laid dual chamber drainage channel and reconcreted over trench. Installed two sumps and piped to two exterior dry wells. It's an entirely closed system.
