From the second I called them through completion of the job, their professionalism and customer service exceeded expectations. Within 2 days, they had come, removed the old garage door, and installed a new garage door without a hiccup. I could not have been happier with them and the cost was very reasonable. To top it off, I even received a hand written thank you card for deciding to choose them. I would HIGHLY recommend to anybody and would not hesitate using them again in the future. Thanks!

My old Stanley garage door opener has been problematic over the years and it finally broke beyond my ability to repair it. I purchased the Angie's list deal and was contacted promptly by the provider to schedule. The technician showed up on time and did a great job with the installation. He even lubricated all of the parts of the door to ensure smooth operation with the new opener. The opener itself is great very quiet and smooth however it is slow. The bigger issue is that there is no way to turn the light on other than opening or closing the door and it shuts off after a few minutes. Since this was the only light in my garage I was hoping it would come with a keypad with an independent light button or the light switch could be programmed to a separate button on the remote but no such luck. I ended up putting another light up to remedy this issue. Also, the remote from the opener is really wide and larger than it needs to be. Furthermore the clip that comes with it is so small it can't fit around the thick visor in my or my wife's Nissans. As for the installer, again he did a great job and even did some work to smooth the door out. However, he was a bit strange and asked if he could use the restroom which is understandable but did come across as a bit odd. Other than that, a great experience and if you need a new opener but are on a tight budget, this is a solid bet.

When our house was built approximately 2 years ago the builder used a different company (not Douglas Garage Door Center) to install the original garage doors. I was never completely satisfied with how they were installed but it wasn't bad enough to warrant any action. Over time however they became worse and it became clear that something had to be done. I call Douglas Garage Door Center based on the favorable reviews I had seen on Angie's List and they just happened to have someone available in my area later that same day. The service tech that arrived immediately saw and understood what my concerns were and made some recommendations as to the best course of action. I agreed and he made the repairs quickly and efficiently. It was obvious that he really knew what he was doing and did a very neat an professional job. He also did some extra work (install of two wired key pads) for me and finished everything that afternoon. We are very pleased with everything he did and would recommend this company to anyone needing garage doors installed or repaired.

Very impressed. Left a message on Sunday for service on Monday and they called first thing in the morning. Was lucky enough to have a cancellation in the area so they showed up at 8am and everything was fixed by 8:30am (time includes a trip back to the shop for parts). Couldn't have been more efficient! Price seemed reasonable at $99 for the service call plus parts.

780 TIMES. That's the approximate number of times, I opened my new garage door before the springs/coals pulled away from my wall damaging my garage door. 9 Days. That's the number of business days that have gone by without a return call. (The service man stated I could expect a call that night or the next day. I didn't and had to call back that Friday. The gentleman I talked to stated I could expect a call the following week. I have not.) No matter what a company states, a properly installed garage door should not pull away from my wall after 26 months. At this point, I have a damaged door and a service bill for $183.35. Is this the type of company you want to do business with? There website may state - A Job Done Right but the job was not done right for me. I work in the service industry and this is not how I define superior service or even average service. Shame on Douglas Garage Door! They should have stood by their 50 year reputation. What is also sad is that I was going to purchase other services from them. They did a very good job originally installing the door.
Description of Work: Originally, Douglas installed my new garage in February of 2012. On April 14, 2014, they had to come back and reset the springs and coals.

The garage door was installed and the sensor wire was repaired. I was surprised when the installer told me the charge for the sensor wire repair was $127.62. I paid $130 to have the garage door opener completely installed by Sears 5 months earlier. The 3 month warranty had expired so I decided it was better to get it fixed when a new door was installed. When the installer had finished installing the door I told thim the garage door was not opening and closing smoothly and was very noisy. I also noticed cracks on several of the panels. He said he would make tell the salesman who would call me. Nobody called me so I called the salesman. He said he would come to my house to look at the door.. I did not hear from him so my husband called and the salesman told him he would come to the house and look at the door. We did not hear from him so my husband called him. He said he had been at the house and worked on the door. The door was still noisy and squealing.I then sent an email and video of the garage door opening and closing to the owner of the business Keith Henson and he never responded to my email. The salesman sent me an email saying he was coming to the house with a factory rep to look at the door. I was then told the door was operating fine even though it still was making noise when it was opened and closed. I sent another video and email to the owner of the business and he did not respond to it. I find his failure to respond personally to my emails and videos appalling. I finally decided I was wasting my time trying to get this problem solved. I should also mention on the business web site Douglas Garage Door vans and trucks are shown. The person who installed my door came in a pickup that was not a company truck.I think installing a large double garage door is a two person job. Some of the hardware on the door is crooked. The old 40+ year old door track was not replaced with a new one. This garage door was not installed properly and therefore does not operate properly...it should not clank and squeal. Greasing the door and then saying the door works fine is not fixing the problem.

My experience with Douglas Garage Door Center was not good. I chose them by reading the reviews at Angies List FIRST VISIT I called them the first time and after some negotiations they stated that they would come the day that they would be in the neighborhood. That way they would not need to come specifically to my place. They called me and informed that the garage door opener can be fixed by changing the Gear Kit. I did ask them what they thought and if I should go ahead with a new garage door opener they had advertised in Angies List. They stated that the garage door opener would be fixed and changed the Gear Kit. They kept the old Gear kit in the garage for me to see. What surprised me was that they charged me $6 for fuel surcharge with a total bill of $168.03. SECOND VISIT In a few days my garage again started having the same problem. I quickly realized that they had never fixed the root cause of the problem. The root cause was that chain was getting stuck at one place. I again called them. They stated that they would need to change the Chain driver opener. I also wanted an outside keypad – they stated that would cost additional $65 and I agreed (I later regretted paying $65 for the keypad as options are available which are much cheaper. By the time I could call them to avoid this expenditure it was already installed). I also paid an additional amount for 8 foot chain (this was expected). They charged me a total of over $490 for both visits and I do not think I got my money’s worth – they only put a new Genie Chain Driver opener (with keypad and 8 foot chain). I could have bought this from Lowe’s or Home Depot or Sears (similar product) and asked a local handyman to install this. I tried to reason that their first visit where they did not fix the root cause of the problem was due to their incompetence and that resulted in the second visit. I think they should have borne the cost of the first visit. Also, did the second Gear kit go bad which I had already paid for? Or was that fine to be used later? They never kept the one that was replaced the first time. They also put charges that they never inform the person.

Douglas Garage Door opens at 7:00am - good point number one. Marc said his workers were all scheduled for the day but he'd see about sending someone when they freed up at the end of the day. He called no more than an hour later, saying he had a worker who just finished up in a town very close to mine and his next job was to be in a town 30 or so miles away. Since I was 'almost' on the way (and close), my job was fit next. Marc was very judicious about his manpower scheduling, saving his company travel expense and insuring that he was going to make a new, loyal customer - who would tell everyone. Parts were needed and the job could not be finished on one trip. The worker was able to do a temporary fix that would make my garage function until the job could be completed. The job was wrapped up completely in two days, basically with no down time. A great job was done.
Description of Work: Provider fixed my garage door - which would not open and I couldn't get my car out. My garage is my primary means of entering and leaving my home so a working garage door is critical. This forced me to shovel 2+ feet of snow from the walkway going from the driveway to the front door. While I'd just been thinking I needing to do this task, I would have preferred the circumstances of the task be at MY convenience.

When our old garage door opener failed I called the company and discussed our situation and details over the phone. They suggested the most suitable equipment and quoted a total price (equipment and installation), which I accepted, again over the phone. Within a few days they called to set up an installation date, which ended up being just over a week after my initial call. At the appointed time on the appointed day the installer arrived. He was very professional, and offered some good suggestions about how to protect the opener so it would not fail prematurely. He said that very often what kills garage door openers is not motor or chain failure, but that the electronics get fried from power surges and power spikes. He told me to get a cheap surge suppressor, which I immediately did. The installer cleaned up after himself and took away the old opener; the whole thing took about two hours. Overall a very professional and well-done job, and a good experience for me.
Description of Work: They removed the old (broken) garage door opener and replaced it with a new one. As part of this they asked for some details about our situation (size and type of door, etc.) and then recommended what type and size (power) of garage door opener would be most suitable.

The service turned out fine. He seemed knowledgeable, he showed up on time, and he did what he was supposed to do. There really wasn't anything that stood out as unlikeable. For what it was worth, it was just an examination, he didn't really perform anything, but he did what he was paid for.

We had a "cranky" set of garage doors that frequently got stuck midway up and down. The company promptly responded to my request for service and the technician arrived right on time. He did a great job not only fixing the problem but also taking the time to show me some basic maintenance that I could do to the system to help this from happening again. I would definitely recommend this company and will not hesitate to use them again to service my garage doors.

We bought an Angie's List deal for $299 to install and new Genie garage door opener. We were living in an apartment in Middletown at the time and had this address in our Angie's List account. This made it a little difficult for scheduling since we were moving into a house in North Haven where the work needed to be done. She was very friendly and said she just needed to check on a few things to get someone to our house as soon as she could. The man was able to come out 2 days later and removed the broken door opener and installed the new one in less than 30 minutes. He was very friendly and courteous. Garage door works great!!!

They were supposed to be here between 11 and 1. So when no one showed up at 1:10, I called and left a message. No one called back. I called again and I spoke to the person I had scheduled the appointment with and he said that he still had to submit my paper work and then he said that there is a worker in another town who should be finishing in 15 min or so and that I would be the next one in line in approximately 25 to 30 min. He also said that he would call me when he hears from the worker that he is on his way. At 1:45 there were no calls from the company or anybody. I chose them based on all the great reviews so I was very disappointed but the fellow that came to fix the garage door knew right away what to do and fixed it right away. Problem was getting somebody here. The service fellow when he finally showed up did the work right away so I would rate him A but for the people in the office I would say it is F. I had nothing to compare the price to. I guess the price was good. The service fellow showed up even after I left a message saying I cancelled; he showed up and fixed it up.

I guess sometimes we drop the ball. The Service manager who was here at the time (he is no longer with us)neglected to enter the customer in to the scheduling book before or after he scheduled the 2 hour window of 11-1. The service man never received the work order in the morning and was not aware that he was to go to Ms. (member name removed) house. Once the customer called us at 1:10 the Service manager gave the service man the job over the phone., and our serviceman arrived at 1:52 to fix Ms (member name removed) problems. I know she was very happy with our work,(A). I don't know why our Servcie Manager did not communicate better with the customer, the only explanation is that his mind was on something else and was leaving the company! We had a few problems around that time.

If I had been a member of Angie's list at the time I needed two new garage door openers, I would have found this GREAT company and bypassed Home Depot. (My experience with Home Depot installers in the past has been terrible, but Douglas Garage Door Center has changed my mind if I have to go the Big Box route.) I have dealt with this company a lot in 2013. Every single interaction has been professional and friendly. They were even extremely helpful in assisting me with getting a response from the manufacturer when I was frustrated by the constant malfunctions. The manufacturer does not reimburse the company much for these repair calls, and I live quite a ways from them. Their professionalism extends to going the extra mile even when it is not to their advantage except in customer good will. I can't speak to this company's prices as the installation price was set by Home Depot. But I know I am looking for professional, knowledgeable people when it comes to home repair and improvement, and this company is TOPS in that regard. If you live in Connecticut and need anything having to do with garage doors, openers and all things related, I strongly urge you to contact Douglas Garage Door Center FIRST. When it is time to replace my garage doors I know I will.
Description of Work: Douglas Garage Door Center installed two garage door openers in February 2013 that I purchased from Home Depot. Then when one unit stopped working in June Douglas was the best part of the malfunction experience which went on through August 20th. The product had to be replaced or repaired several times. The product was the problem, not the installation.

To start, I called anticipating scheduling an appointment for the following week. The scheduler offered me the next day and patiently waited on hold while I coordinated schedules with my wife on the other line. The contractor showed on time the next day and completed the repair quickly and cheaply. The $99 service call fee was a bit steep, and a fuel surchage (are they charging me to drive out to my house?) asburd... but the repair in this instance was amazingly cheap. On a bigger job, I might feel like I'm being nickled and dimed

AJ arrived on-time and was very courteous and professional. I showed him that my garage door (13 yrs old) was not working correctly. He investigated the problem and gave me the option to replace parts in the present opener or replace it with a new one, including what the cost would be for each option. I chose a new opener which had more power and he made an appointment to install it the next day. He showed up on time the next day and had the new opener installed in the time he had quoted. He explained the operation and features and also went over the warranty material. I?m very happy with this new opener and the price, and will use Douglas Door if I need any help with my openers again.

The original fix was quick and well done. The spring install was just OK since it didn't really improve the functionality of the door over the $10 clamp they had used to fix the broken spring. The fact that the second one was working perfectly and then failed soon after the multi-hundred dollar install of the new spring has me more than slightly worried.
Description of Work: A spring broke on the garage door. I called and they came out the next day. They put a temporary clamp on the spring to get the door to work until a new spring was ordered. The door worked better than before even with the temporary brace. We were not charged at that time since they would be coming back to replace the spring. Several weeks later -over a month maybe even two - I received a call that the spring was in and that they would be out the next day to install. Remembering that the door was working great with the temporary spring fix I was looking forward to the new spring. There was basically no difference. If anything it wasn't as smooth as with the temporary clamp. Then in just over a week of having the new spring the other spring broke and this time they told me that they can't fix it until they get another new spring. I'm currently waiting for the second spring. In the mean time I have no way to use my garage.
