Description of Work: After pulling my car into the garage tonight, I tried to open the garage door and it would not open. Upon inspection it was clear something had broken. It was after hours, everywhere I called was going to charge a big after hours fee. I called Academy Overhead Door, we talked, I sent James a picture. He called right back and explained what was broken- it was s simple fix - but most importantly he was willing to tell me how to repair it! James even offered to walk me through it if I got stuck. I am so grateful for his kindness and integrity-he could have come down, charged me a couple of hundred dollars for a simple fix, instead, he was honest and kind. When the time comes to have any type of work done on my garage doors I know who to call! James at Academy Overhead Door.

Description of Work: The rollers on our garage opener needed to be replaced; it wouldn't budge up or down. The technician (heavyweight) used our aluminum ladder and it bent under his weight so we can no longer use it. He left black greasy fingerprints all over our garage door. And he set the door closure so that there was a gap between the bottom of the door and the cement floor. A few weeks later, a cable got tangled up in the track and we had to call Academy Door again. They sent a different tech. This tech did a great job including readjusting so there was no more gap. They didn't charge for the 2nd visit (and I would have protested if they had, I think the first tech's work was responsible). |

+ -1 moreend plate on one of the garage door panels that needed attention. I was willing to pay for the part and for the additional labor to replace the part, but the tech was not interested. He gave me a non-answer about what could be done. He could have said that the ends were not available or that they did not stock them and that would have finished the conversation. Bottom line, the work was done, but I would not recommend the company in the future.
Description of Work: I responded to an Angie's List Big Deal. The work was done as described on the coupon. The tech replaced the rollers, tightened all screws and bolts, lubricated the moving parts, verified the balance of the door, and ensured everything worked. The tech was schedule to arrive at 9AM. By 9:45 AM, I called the company to ask where he was. The response was that he would be there in about an hour since he was in Denver picking up a door. Three hours later he arrives and does the job. He said he had come from another job in Fountain. It cost me time at work and pay to be home for this guy to be almost 4 hours late. I cannot rate the professionalism or quality very high either. He sprayed lubricant on the wheel tracks in such a way that lubricant got onto everything on my work bench and all over the door. Everything had to be cleaned up. Additionally, I pointed out an

I was pleasantly surprised when I was told a technician could come out later that day considering it was a New Year's Eve. The technician was prompt and courteous and went over in detail our problems. He suggested a new set of springs and said the motor was dead in our old unit and it would need to be replaced. He didn't have the part with him so we made an appoitnment for the following work day. He replaced the unit and went over how to operate it.

+ -1 moreThe springs broke on a Saturday. Checked on the List, and these folks were highly rated and they had a coupon. We called and scheduled service on Monday to avoid high weekend rates. The technician arrived as scheduled, and after inspection recommended we replace both springs. Both the logic and the additional charge were reasonable. The job was quickly and professionally completed. A sticker describing the company and the work performed was applied to the wall near the opener...a nice touch. We're happy with the results.

+ -1 moreHe came the same day that I called which I thought was really nice. He was very good at putting it in, and it looks excellent. He cleaned up everything, and he was very friendly. There was nothing bad. I spent a total of $400 with the tax and everything. I do not know what the others cost but I know that I can get it at some well-known stores for quite a bit less. I don’t know if we have to have it installed. It was one of the more expensive and one of the better ones and that was why it cost so much.

+ -1 moreJames came out and gave an estimate to put in a door which was better quality than the one being replaced, but that would still match the single door on the third garage stall. His estimate was competitive, but was a little higher than another one. He was willing to match the lower estimate with a door with slightly more insulation and able to install it much sooner than the other company. The technicians were both professional and friendly. We are pleased with the new door and the experience!

The technician was professional and friendly and the cost was fair. I am very satisfied and will call them again if I have any garage door problems in the future. They are truly a class act!
