The day schedule for the new countertop installation Stoneworks called once or twice to say they were running late. They eventually arrived around 11 a.m., but with only 2 countertops, thus missing the 3rd piece of countertop and all the backsplashes. The installers initially had no idea they were missing any parts. They called back to Stoneworks and no one had any idea where the templates for our job were. So the Stoneworks guys had to re-measure and call to have the missing countertop and all the back splashes made at once. I should note that we were glad they could do this on such short notice and that they did not have to delay finishing our job because of missing pieces. While waiting for the missing pieces to be delivered, they installed the other 2 pieces. In general, the two installers seemed skilled and professional, and were careful about our house. However, they had to do considerable shimming (multiple 1/4" shims) under the island granite piece to make the supporting surface level. I was not happy with the crude way the pieces of wood (the "shims") were simply broken by hand, resulting in some shims with jagged, uneven ends that stuck out unevenly from underneath the countertop. We subsequently bought wood strips, stained them to match the oak wood of the sides of the island, and nailed them in to cover the rough appearance under the countertops. The Stoneworks installers delivered the Propak with the sink and when I said I had cancelled the order for it, they said it must come with the sink because it was with the sink. So I took it but later found that it was not included with the sink (but Carpet Exchange paid Stoneworks for it). We were not happy with the precision of the cut-out made for the oven in the island. When the oven was pushed all the way back in (which we had to finish doing, because of having to run out and install supports under 1 side of the granite countertop of the island, as suggested by the installers) rather than the subcontracted handyman who hooked up the new sink and faucet and re-positioned the oven in the island), there was a slight gap between the rear part of the top surface of the oven and the granite. It's barely noticeable but it's hard to avoid wiping crumbs into the gap when I'm cleaning. I called Stoneworks after the job was completed and even sent them pictures of the shims and the slight gap, but they only responded that some jobs require shimmimg and never addressed the slight gap. .
Description of Work: We went through Carpet Exchange from Boulder to have granite kitchen countertops installed. They, in turn. used Stoneworks of Colorado out of Loveland. We picked a black granite material for the 3 areas of countertop plus backsplash. We went to Stoneworks to see the actual granite and look at various sinks. One of the 3 countertops was for the kitchen island, which contained an oven. We also ordered a stainless steel sink from Stoneworks. Although we initially ordered the Propak @ $150 for the sink (alternate drain, protective sink guards, etc.), we cancelled that part of the order. Carpet Exchange had others draw the templates and measure for the new countertops and backsplash, remove the old countertop (painted formica), sink and faucet, .
