Provider was onsite when I arrived, a little early. He was on the phone in his car,on the phone. I said hi were you calling me. He said no I don't have your number. I specifically ask the office to have the service provider call me on my cell when he was on his way, I also requested that he bring a lawnmower in case he had extra time,he could cut the very small front lawn. He was not informed of that by the office so he had no mower. Lucky he also had no extra time. The office dropped the ball though.

Thank you [member name removed] for using Handyman Matters Centennial again. You have been a repeat customer for many years for you own personal home and your rentals. We left voice messages on your voice mail asking if you had heard from your tennants about doing the painting. It was a while before we heard back from you. In the communication with Alex, he needed to open the garage door to the home to completly finish the painting. We are happy to return when the tennants are there to complete the job. My understanding is that he also mowed the front yard. Did that get completed?

Skip is fantastic! He fixed my gate and, because it was late in the day, offered to come by later on in the week to replace my exterior lighting (not the job he was originally contracted for). He did a great job, worked efficiently, and is highly personable. I'm now drafting a LONG To Do List for him to tackle next month. I cannot recommend Skip highly enough - great guy, superb ethics, and friendly!

I called Handyman Matters to get a quote on replacing some water damaged siding. I was told that after describing the job that this was a simple project that would only take 4 hours or so. They said they had a 4 hour special for approximately $300 and any additional hours would be $59 per hour. I expressed that I really wanted to have someone come out and look at the job first but I was assured that they could handle it. The employee showed up as scheduled an seemed competent and knowledgeable. He immediately realized that this was not a 4 hour job and that he needed an assistant to complete the project. He gave me a list of items that he needed me to buy to fix the problem and he immediately got to work after another employee delivered a ladder to my house. One of the items was replacement trim for the siding which I went to the store and purchased along with nails and a saw blade for his circular saw. I knew I had to buy the materials but I thought the saw blade was a weird request since he should have his own tools. Not wanting to argue over a few dollars, I purchased it anyway. The helper arrived just before I went to the store. When I got back about a half hour later the employee was gone and the helper was eating breakfast. Wanting the workers to do the job and not talk to me about price, I called the office to discuss the price of the job becasue now I had to pay for more than 4 hours and an assistant. The office said the handyman for the day would be approximatly $500 and they were not sure about how much the apprentice would cost. An hour or so later I heard back from the office, which stated the total cost for the day would be approximatly $729 and that they would not finish the job in one day but would need about 4 more hours the next day. I said I was not happy that the job was now signifigantly more that the amount quoted and the office worker told me they could quit right now and it would not cost me anymore. The problem was the siding had been removed and part of my house was exposed the rain and sleat that was coming down that day. So having them quit was not an option. So my $300 job was getting close to $1,000. My wife called the office to get a better understanding of why the job tripled and was told that the office employee we had been dealing with had left for the day. My wife was referred to Sandy, the owner. She assured my wife that they would finish the job but she said her worker had to leave for the day becasue I had not bought the supplied necessary to finish the job, namely the trim. Needles to say, the conversation between my wife and Sandy did not go well. At that point, I called Sandy to explain that I had the trim and her employee should finish the job but I was sent to her voicemail. My wife then called an Sandy answered, she explained that we bought the trim at 9:30 AM and had the receipt from Home Depot to prove it. After some more agrguing, Sandy told my wife that she needed 24 hours to find get the facts about the job and assured her that they would finish the job. The employee then presented me with a bill of $506 which included the original quote of $279 for 4 hours, plus and additional hour for him at $70, and 4 1/2 hours for his helper for $157. They included a half hour paid lunch in their bill as well. The trim was not finished and he said he was told by Sandy to leave. I paid him but I was not happy about it. 24 hours later, my wife called the office and was told Sandy was on vacation. We then received two voicemails from Sandy. One on our house phone were she stated she was willing to work with us but they did considerable more work than they were supposed to. The other voicemail was on my wifes phone where Sandy essentially said, among other things, that she heard from a family member of ours that we ofter try to beat contractors out of money. I'm nor sure who she heard this from becasue all of our family is on the east coast. Needless to say, I took offense to this and did not return her call to have a sort of cooling period. I called and left a message for Sandy a few days later and she did not return my call. I relly feel this company deliberatly tried to low ball the estimate and then milk a job for all it was worth. Sandy made a big deal of me saying that I needed only four sections of trim replaced when they replaced 6. The fact of the matter is that 4 were damaged, it was their employee who said I should replace 6. I am not in the business which is why I was relaying on them. They did not replace the trim and tried to milk me for another 8 hours. They claim up front pricing on their website yet, I could not get them to come out for an estimate and even their office staff could not give me an estimate on the job until a couple of hours later, after they had already torn off my siding. What choice did I have at that point? Finally, Sandy's lies about the trim and the phoney information from a family member of ours is beyond the pail and shows that she is an unscrupulous business person. I don't want anything from her. I do want people to see this review and hopefully choose to go with someone else so they do not have a similar experience. I had to add a rebuttal to the Provider Response becasue she does not address the main points. Her website advertises upfront pricing. I got an up front price which inflated to 21/2 times what they quoted.Randall could not give me a price so I called the office, Gwen and was told she would call back. She did 2 1/2 hours later after they had torn off the siding on my house. Randall did not replace insulation or studs, just siding so the conversation her son Eric heard does not matter. Gwen never went over discounts or total cost. she said it would be $729 for the first day and possible another 4 hours on the 2nd day. She could not tell me why Randall had to come back or what it would cost becasue she did not know if he needed a helper. I never bragged about my wife getting a job done for free, I told Randell that my wife had a dispute with a utility company where she was right and forced the company to reimburse us after being overcharged. In essence she was not a push over. The Provider Response is typical of this company. Notice how my statement of the questionable billing was not addressed. She only chose to attack us. Now I will pursue a claim with Angieslist. Despicable!

Gwen booked the job with the husband, [member name removed]. When she talked to [member name removed]. he said what a great job, Randall was doing, and the siding was over sized and heavy. I told him it looked like Randall was going to need part of Friday to complete the work, depending on the weather and such. [member name removed] said that Randall was keeping him fully informed of the job and the time it will take. Another Craftsman Eric delivered a ladder to the site and heard the conversation between [member name removed] and Randall. He was in the conversation with Randall and [member name removed] speaking about the possible insulation issues once the siding was removed depending on the amount of rot on the studs. [member name removed] agreed with Randall that there may be more work when the framing was exposed. In the afternoon when Gwen spoke to [member name removed] about Randall returning, [member name removed] asked how much the hob was going to cost. She went over the special discounts and the cost of the apprentice. Gwen said that Randall will give him a receipt for the total cost at the end of the project. Later when Randall called into the office, he reported that the wife, Jessica was furious about the cost of the job. Jessica was not involved in any of the conversations. He said that it was between husband and wife. Then Randall reported that [member name removed] "bragged" that Jessica gets work done for free because she complains a lot. Randall reported that he does not want to go back to this customer because of this statement and the whole household dynamics. At that time, the owner of the business said that we need to leave the siding job completed and let the other work be done by someone else. Contractor beware.

In advance of the repairman arriving, I purchased a replacement faucet. When he arrived he needed to uninstall the old one and hook up the new one. He had a fair amount of trouble trying to solder the pipes back together. He tried a few times, then had to go to Home Depot for parts and did a compression coupling instead. This job was a lot simpler than he made it; I'd think twice before using them for plumbing services again because they have no parts on board and would use the time purchased to go to a retail store to buy parts as needed. The repairman did not understand the pricing deal I purchased, but once he called the shop they straightened him out. So I got what I paid for but not without some confusion. It was a bargain, to be sure and they were all very professional and nice. Very attentive and good follow up.

The nice guy who came to work on it, Joe, also fixed the broken counter, it is granite and was coming apart in front of the sink and our leaky garbage disposal, it had a drain pipe that it leaked around. We ended up paying for 4 hours of work, the first 2 hours on the coupon and the second 2 hours at regular rates. He did a great job, everything is still in great shape after a month. He was friendly and honest. We felt like it cost too much, that perhaps if we'd called a plumber instead it would have been faster. It took 4 hours total, so the first 2 hours at the coupon rate and the second 2 at regular rates. We don't know for certain, as we usually do this kind of work ourselves, it takes us MUCH longer. We do know that it looks great and works as intended. Joe knew his work; we would hire him again for other things and most likely will.

I am very pleased that this member said that Joe, our employee, did a great job and that everything is still in great shape after a month. I agree that Joe is a nice guy, friendly and honest. The projects that she had him complete were necessary. I am not sure a plumber would be able to remove and reset the broken counter top, re-seal the sink or create a new cover plate for the clean-out. That would be a second company and most likely additional cost to her. Handyman Matters offers several employees with complete skills in over 1,500 different skills so only one phone call is needed to get the work done.

Upon arrival I showed the workman the list of jobs(6-7 total). I indicated which should take priority but he indicated that all the work could be done in one day. He didn't even complete the plywood replacement in one day. Then I waited several more days for a return visit because I was not willing to switch to a different handyman and the original one was not available. He did do the work noted above, but the caulking was rather sloppy. He initially quoted me a figure around $700, but it proved more expensive and I opted to finish painting the project myself and I canceled several other items on the list rather than pay them more money.

( Note: I called a few contractors before I called Handyman about this small project. Most didn't call me back, or were very slow and unresponsive in estimating. I got tired of that and looked for someone else more responsive and professional. I went back to Angie's list and found Handyman Matters and gave them a call.) I worked with Sandy at Handyman, who answered all my questions and helped up figure out the best way to get the job done cost-effectively and most expediently. After my experiences with other contractors who never called back or took 2 weeks to answer an email, I was very impressed with Handyman's professionalism and follow-up. We chose a date and Wayne came out to build the wall and do the small plumbing job associated with the hose spigot. He helped us order our own materials, saving us money over having them buy the materials for us. He worked efficiently and came up with a great idea to solve the fact that the wall needed to be built right where the hose spigot was. We also needed the wall to match the existing walls of our patio and he did an excellent job of matching the style and construction of those. The wall is sturdier and better-constructed than the existing walls, in fact, and we are very pleased with it. Handyman estimated one to one and half days and it turned out to be one long day -- Wayne stayed until after dark to complete the construction. It was a Friday and he scheduled to come back on Monday to paint and finish the gate, but my husband and I decided to go ahead and paint it ourselves over the weekend. Wayne came out on Monday anyway to help up get rid of the leftover lumber and building supplies, as we don't have a vehicle we could carry them in. Overall a great experience with this company and contractor. I recommend them.
Description of Work: Built a privacy fence/wall and gate for our patio, including plumbing work to move the hose spigot.
The whole series of repairs over a few weeks (according to our schedule) could not have better.
Description of Work: Over a period of weeks we had Ken from Handyman Matters South perform a very wide range of repairs and improvements in our home. These included plumbing, furniture repair, electrical, lighting, shelving, exterior painting, room painting, re-hanging doors, building steps to deck, drywall repairs, stain porch, sand and stain kitchen table, and various other repairs. All were carried out expertly, with the minimum of fuss, and totally to our satisfaction. Ken was a pleasure to deal with and we would refer him to anyone.

Overall we are very happy with the work performed by Handyman Matters. They work very fast and you never feel like your hourly rate is being wasted. Our only recommendation is for Handyman Matters is for them to slow down a little. Sometimes they are working so fast that they miss details. For example, we were having the handyman install white door trim around the doors and along the floor in our mudroom. We then had the handyman move upstairs to install stained door trim and he started to install it around the floor too, not noticing that the existing floor moulding was different from the door moulding. Not a huge deal, we caught it quickly, but it was a result of working too fast and not noticing some of the finer details. That said, if you want fast work done better than most and without hassles I would use Handman Matters. We knew what to expect and were happy with the results.
Description of Work: We used Handyman Matters to do a variety of things around our house. They installed a slate floor, engineered floor, floor and door moulding, repaired and installed drywall, textured drywall, installed some doors, cabinets, lights, and sink fixtures.

I thought the job was done reasonably, decently and timely. We didn't seem to have a problem. He offered a good price for the work he did. So far, the railing is still standing. He didn't do the final paint job, because we knew we would have to match the correct paint and do it ourselves. He arrived bright and early at 9:00 a.m. He was a little bit laid back, but I didn't find it to be a problem.

the whole experience was OK overall. the first guy that came was not very personable and wouldnt tell us what he was doing and he had to make many trips back and forth to the store to get more supplies. he had to call in a back-up to finish the job as their was an odd configuration to our plumbing. the second guy that came was GREAT!! They worked well as a team versus just having the one guy. About a week later our sink began to leak and they were VERY prompt in coming to fix it without an additional charge. Overall, if i were to use them again, I would ask to use a specific plumber to insure the work is done properly and on time.

Very professional, called 30 minutes out to tell me he was on his way, arrived on time. Covered garage floor, taped off edges, very pleased with end result. Quote was given over the phone when I scheduled appointment, I gave general square footage. When it was clear the project would take longer than expected, worker let me know right away and we worked out a new estimate. I appreciated the heads up so I was prepared for final cost. Would recommend company and use them again.

Response from Handyman Matters Centennial
The last time this client used Handyman Matters was 2009. Work order #18718 on March 2009. she gave Craig, our Craftsman a 9 out of 10 rating. Our qualified Craftsman installed TV hardware, pot rack, laundry room shelf, towel ring and traverse rods. I am uncertain why she is reporting on this Handyman Matters office.,
