It went very well. Christie's estimate was out of our budget range. Their presentation package was very professional looking and the sales engineer who came to the house was very knowledgeable.

Overall, we are very pleased with our new addition and the stairs. Steve, Alyssa and Mark were very easy to deal with, and I appreciate their persistence in tackling a tough job and some tricky code issues. Figuring out ways to make the basement stairs work with required riser heights was challenging, and the solution that Steve came up with works brilliantly. Steve also took our wish for lots of light and access to the backyard seriously and came up with a great plan for two French doors and plenty of well-placed windows. Mark spent much of his time working on site and was excellent about communicating what was going on. .
Description of Work: Christie's helped my household decide how best to add space to our turn-of-the century home. Alyssa and Steve guided us through that decision, and we are very happy with the result. Christie's converted our back patio into a light-filled studio and workshop space, moved the basement stairs for easier access, and added some cupboard space in our kitchen.

I couldn't be more pleased with the work that Chistie's Complete Services performed on our bathroom remodel. Steve Christie was extremely patient with my wife and I as we were very indecisive about the bathroom design decisions. My personal opinion of Steve Christie is that he is a problem solver. Throughout the entire process he offered suggestions to help in many ways, from suggestions that amounted to cost savings to better design. He never pressured us into anything that we did not want. For me the best part of working with CCS was that I felt that every time a problem came up over the course of the project, as will happen in all projects, I was always comfortable bringing it up. In all cases we were able to either work out a compromise or the problem was explained to me in detail and options to resolve it were laid out clearly. There was never a moment of disagreement to the point where I felt it was me vs CCS. Instead it was always, here's a problem and here are options we have to solve it. On some more specific points, the crew was always punctual, or, if there was need for work to be rescheduled I was notified in advance. The crew performed the work with a minimal amount of mess and they were always respectful of our home. If I had any criticism of CCS in this project it would be that in a few cases some specific details of the project that had been discussed occasionally seemed to be forgotten, but there was never a problem when I reminded them of the issue. So, in general I think that they could work a little harder on keeping track of finer details of the project. All of the work I requested was done, though, and done to my satisfaction. I will not hesitate to rehire CCS for future work.
Description of Work: The services with Christie's Complete Services started with a bathroom remodel and then I added work on our front and back entry ways. Bathroom Remodel: included removal of tub and tile surround to be replaced with a shower. New shower consisted of Onyx brand shower surround install kit, custom ordered, and dual independent shower head and european style glass door, also with vapor light insert. New vanity with quartz top, and custom faucet and lighting install. Entry Ways: Replace back door with insulated door and replace front single pane windows adjacent to door with double pane custom ordered windows and rehang front door for better seal.

Thank you for the great review! We greatly appreciate your kind words; however, working with such great clients as you two is what makes us want to strive to continually improve our processes and services. Communication is of great importance with our clients, and we are in the process of making it better by way way of web-based software. All involved in projects now - client, subcontractors, project managers/coordinators - will communicate through this program so everyone is on the same page. And this is thanks to you and other clients - we knew we needed to improve communications and we have! We look forward to working with you in the future and don't forget - we LOVE referrals!

Christie's is the BEST company we've worked with in 30 years of home ownership -- highest standards, professionalism, and superb client care. Christie's Design/Build Remodeling completely updated our 1923 home. They maintained the architectural look and feel of a 1920s American bungalow to the letter. They redesigned rooms and created new living space with an addition, plus built a new porch that overlooks Boulder Valley and the Flatirons. The end result is simply beautiful! In addition, they included Aging in Place features, and also followed "best practices" with Earth-friendly materials. They used the SW-facing side of the house to create spaces of natural light that change as the sun rises and sets. Every square foot of this 1500 sq ft house has been transformed. Christie's has a great work ethic and friendliness, which is what the West is all about. Great communication, excellent crew, and an all around positive experience. Highly recommended. If I could put A+++, I would!

Thank you so much ! This project was definitely the most challenging project we've ever completed. However, we were so lucky to have such patient clients as yourself and (name removed). Although, the process was a bit longer than expected, we are so pleased that you love your new home. The way you and Ike are decorating it, really puts it all together so wonderfully! If only all of our clients could be as kind and enjoyable to work with as you two, we would be in total bliss!

It went great! Could not have asked for more out of Steve and his guys. . . .
Description of Work: About a year ago my wife and I opened up a retail shop in Firestone. Steve and his crew were AWESOME! They took our ideas and made them a reality at a price we could afford. Work included building a storage room, installing wall units and installing pipe for clothing racks. He also help us locating other contracts as needed. Just great service. PLUS. . . He always made time for us when we had little emergencies that popped up. Like when the shelving unit I put in place came crashing down on my wife. Yep he came over and took care of it before I finished banding up her hand. They're great!

See review of same company not in all caps. (This company is listed twice.)Long story short - the work was done and is satisfactory, but it was like pulling teeth to get it done properly and we are still finding things done sloppily or that weren't done at all. The owner also disputed the contract cost and tried to slip in extra costs that were never approved. I would never hire them again and would warn anyone wanting anything nice done to steer clear.

Yes, these projects did not go well at all – there were many, many variables involved in why these projects did not go as expected. There is no mention of what was done sloppily or not at all; however, due to the fact that Member refused to finish paying the final contract amount, all warranties on these projects are void. The “services that were unapproved were charged” in part involved a change order for unforeseen circumstances behind the wall that had to be repaired, per the building inspector, or he would not have signed off on the permit. It was totally our fault as our lead carpenter did not immediately stop work and get a signed change order from the Member before continuing with the work as they were in a rush to get the job completed. We, as much as she, wanted to be out of her home as soon as possible. And, yes, we are very sorry to say there were many miscommunications regarding these projects; however, many of those communications were caused by Member breaking her contract dozens of times and speaking directly with, and trying to direct, our subcontractors on how to complete their job. Additionally, she obtained free work that was not part of the original scope of work from our subcontractors and then did not pay the additional when we were invoiced for the extra work she, herself, requested directly from the subcontractors. We had two electricians that refused to come back to this house due to being yelled at and called names that won’t be mentioned in this reply. Additionally, Member not only made my designer cry, she almost had my 6’2” plumber in tears, along with the manager at Ferguson’s, the plumbing supplier. We had asked both of them over to the house to try and satisfy Member. Member continually tried to act as general contractor, thus causing many of the problems that occurred on this job. It’s funny that although Member said she would never hire us again, she asked if we wanted to bid her outdoor kitchen after this project was done. We, of course, declined. Our company is just not a fit for the Member family.

We hired Chirstie's Complete Services in April of 2011 and it has taken until now (January 4, 2013) to gather my thoughts and write an honest review without blowing a fuse. The job was done properly in the end, but it took, my riding herd on them every inch of the way to make it happen. The trouble began with the "designer" who turned out to be the owner's daughter. I had a whole scheme of colors, materials, fixtures and flooring and even gave all that to the owner before he gave us his bid. The designer drew up a "plan" which contained no materials or samples or anything other than what I had already given them. Specifically, I wanted Mexican Travertine in the bathroom and asked to see the sample multiple times. The designer told me that she had already brought it over, but the tile was never ordered. It finally came down to my having to deal with the flooring supplier myself to get the tile ordered at the last moment, over the original price (by the way) as I was never given any prices for any materials. The trouble finally ended when I had enough of the daily mishaps and disagreements over what was in the plan and what was not, how things were going to work and where they were coming from. I had decided to just let them get finished and get them out of my house when they had to return to replace a broken piece of glass block in the bathroom. I was unable to be at home when they came to do the repair, but knowing the problems we had, I went home for lunch to check on the work. I found shards of glass all over the floor and scratches to my new tile (the tile I had to fight so hard to get ordered). Angry, but figuring that was the end of it, I wrote the final check for the contracted amount and thought I was done. Oh no!! I got an email from the owner, Steve Christie, that I needed to pay him an extra $1000 for the painting which was done by his daughter and her fiancé. First, I never agreed to pay that amount, the paint was integrated into the original contract. Second, the paint in both rooms had to be redone by the lead carpenter as it was sloppy and the wrong paint was used and it didn't cover the walls. Unfortunately, when I told the owner that I was not going to pay for something that was not agreed upon in the contract, he became very angry and sent me a long email regarding the costs he had already eaten on this job and how little he was making. I decided that was not really my problem as we paid exactly what our contract indicated, with extra for the tile that was over the original cost. He also threatened that he would not honor his warrantee in the contract. Well, even if something did come up that needed to be fixed, I would not allow them to enter my home again. The many problems that occurred on a daily basis are just too many to name, but these examples, I think, give the gist of how this company does business. Our rooms are lovely and mostly what we wanted, but we fought for every inch of them and I could have done without the general contractor and hired the subs myself.

Disapointing job performance. Call Holmes on Holmes before you call Christies.
Description of Work: Christies made one large bedroom out of two small ones. Initially we were pleased but as time moved on we began to see ceiling and wall imperferctions. Also at the same time Christies remodeled our hall bath. The workmanship was ok but the cabinet and vanity was very substandard. He also had other jobs going on and we never were sure when his crew would show up and how long they would stay. The crew fought among each other and one walked off the job. The one person left behind rushed to finish up and did not do a satisfactory job. When christie was confronted he said well the one year warrenty was up too bad. The also remodeled the basement bathroom and did a good job. However, Christie did not obtain a building permit and the bathroom vent was contected to the dryer vent . This is against code. A seperate vent must be installed for a bathroom vent going outside. We also had some plumbing issues that were not finished and it took forever for Christies to fix it. Christies gives high estimates and the work performed in our home was not worth what we paid. We are non-smokers and everyone on the jobs smoked outside but came inside smelling very bad. My Asthma flared up and it made me sick. If Christies did work for me again, I would have a contract drawn up by an attorney to ensure the work promised was done to my satisfaction. Christies is also too expensive for the quality of his work..

customer, My sincere apologies regarding the issues you have with the work we completed in April 2003. I can assure you our company does not, in any way, operate as we did ten years ago. As you stated, “as time moved on, you began to see ceiling and wall imperfections”. We have always had a minimum 5 year warranty, and had you called our office to state your dissatisfaction with the imperfections within that time frame, we would have repaired, at no cost to you. Steve would not have stated, “the one year warranty was up too bad”. After locating your files, we discovered that we did come to your home to repair damage from a water leak issue in the bathroom on August 23, 2010, which was actually 4 months past your warranty period. We did not charge you. Other than that call for repairs or dissatisfaction, we do not show any records of you contacting our office. Looking through your files, I also found that the cabinet and vanity was not purchased by our company and that you had already chose those before we were contracted for the job. As for the permit, our notes indicate that you did not want to pay for a permit for the basement bathroom at that time. Our company will now not complete any job without a permit, if required. Additionally, our records indicate total amount you spent with our company was $28,854.35 for all jobs. Yes, the behavior of our carpenters, at that time, was atrocious and completely unacceptable. The two carpenters that were working on your job were brothers and were fired shortly after your jobs because of their behavior. Unfortunately, we did not terminate them in a timelier manner, and again, I sincerely apologize. However, as Steve recalls, you were also feeding them both breakfast and lunches for several weeks before we found out. We knew production was not going well and discovered why. We will be glad to come over and examine the old work to see what we can do for you, if anything, as this project is almost five years out of warranty. Please give myself or Steve a call if you would like us to come take a look. Sincerely, Diane Christie, VP (303) 833-4715

I called and asked to have a 'free' in-home estimate for a master bath remodel. I was told by the secretary that the 'salesperson' (big red flag) was at lunch and he could call me that afternoon. When I finally received a return call, the guy told me that he really hated driving down to Denver to give an estimate, and that he would have to charge me for the milage. I told him forget it. I would never use or recommend this company. They state that they serve the greater metro area and the entire front range, whatever that means. The 'salesperson' sounded like he had no interest in my smaller bathroom remodel job, and wanted to charge me for the in-home estimate. Greed + false advertising + greasy salesman = eventual business failure.

Thank you for your comments - we are grateful when comments are received from anyone, whether they are current clients or prospects calling regarding our services. We have never, in our 12+ years in business, charged for an estimate. What was stated was that we would have to charge mileage in our estimate for your master bath remodel as our office is located north of the Denver area. Steve stated that there were many qualified remodelers in your area that would not have to charge mileage in their estimate of your remodel. However, we are happy to complete a free estimate, with mileage included in that estimate for our project manager who shows up daily on all of our jobs. Our service area on the Angie’s List map is outside of Aurora and only in the mid-metro area and everything north. From our office, your home is over 44 miles & approximately 48 minutes via E-470, not including the $2.50/toll charge each way - $20 round trip. If we drove via I-76 to I-70 to I-225, the drive time is a minimum of 54 minutes, and that is without traffic delays. If we were to complete an estimate for your master bathroom, we would have to include the mileage paid to my project manager and either the tolls or the time to sit in traffic. This could possibly add an additional $500 or more to your estimate. We are an honest company, not greedy nor do we have false advertising. We inform our prospective clients’ right up front of any costs that might be incurred that would not normally be incurred in our estimates. Some people do not mind paying the extra mileage on our proposals, and we have had a few that have signed contracts with us that includes the mileage and tolls. However, most people want to look at other contractors within their area to avoid the extra mileage and toll charges that we have to cover in our bids. And we don’t think Steve is a greasy salesman at all… We sincerely hope you were able to find a contractor that will be able to remodel your master bathroom to your satisfaction. Diane Christie, VP

Steve came out to give me information and a bid on siding my house and replacing windows. He gave me an informative presentation, and I enjoyed him very much in person. We talked for almost an hour. Afterwards, Steve informed me that in order to hear his bid for the job, I would need to go to his office, a 25 minute drive from my home. I was very surprised since I've never had a contractor for any service on my home require me to travel to them to hear their bid. While I did want to hear their bid, I decided to pass due to this requirement which seems unprofessional and inconvenient to me. If you consider using them, ask them if they still have this policy before you give them an hour+ of your time for the initial visit.

Thank you for your comments - we are grateful when comments are received from anyone, whether they are current clients or prospects we did not win over as clients. It is normally our procedures to inform our prospects about the second appointment at our office during the first telephone call when calling to set up your initial consultation. I apologize for inadvertently letting this slip during the initial contact. Normally, we like clients to come to our office for the 2nd appointment for several reasons. The estimate we present at this appointment is based on the initial consulation meeting with you and based on products selected to fit within your budget. Additionally, samples of most products we carry are at our office where you can clearly see and feel the quality of the product you would be purchasing in the contract. Also, normally, the estimate consists of several options of products, and upon coming to the office to select which option and/or product you like, the estimate is adjusted on the spot and can be ready to be put into contract form where a start date can be selected. Again, we sincerely apologize for any confusion...it was Steve's understanding at his initial consultation with you that you had not decided on what kind of siding to select and wanted to see the products in order to decide. Had you decided to come to our office, we would have had samples of the siding products with all the warranty information and both options from which to make selections from in your complimentary estimate. Because of your comments, we will be convening a staff meeting to discuss more and better ways to serve our clients. Possibly, on siding and windows, we can complete an on-the-spot estimate and not have to have our clients travel to our offices. Again, your comments are always appreciated and will be taken into serious consideration - thank you! Diane Christie, VP

.My summary. . . Outstanding! Longer version . . . Steve Christie and crew were there for our commercial build out process from start to finish. From our first meeting when he put us ?newbie?s? at ease to the final inspection process and approval we knew all the way that we had made the right decision to engage them. Although our project wasn?t very large there were a few tricky items to be completed. Christie?s took them on and completed them with fine workmanship and superb work ethic. From our initial sit down through the final inspections, we were very happy we had chosen them. We?d highly recommend them as a contractor and will surely use them again when the need arises. Thanks Christie?s!

From the beginning, Christie's were great to work with. They listened to our ideas and gave helpful suggestions that improved our orginal plan. They were very aware of our budget and worked with us to keep it in line. They always kept us informed with what was going on and what they were doing. They also kept their work area clean. At the end of the day, they would clean their area and put their tools away, even though they were going to be back the next day. They also strived to keep the rest of the house clean by sealing off the door that went from the basement to the first floor. We are planning to replace our deck. Christie's are our top choice for this and any future projects.
Description of Work: Finished the basement by adding a family room (including a wet bar), craft room, storage room and linen closet. Work included framing, drywall, electrical, plumbing, painting and drop ceiling.

The project started in May. There were several severe hail and rainstorms which delayed progress. It would have been better to start a few months earlier when it was dryer. During June the wall was poured and roof built. The roof had massive 12"x12" beams and required careful cutting to get them lined up right. A little after July 4 the project was completed. The roof made a significant difference to the look of that part of the house.
Description of Work: Built a porch over the patio and a rock wall to enclose the patio. The project followed architect drawings. The roof was more extensive that a typical shed roof. Steve was very responsive to any concerns or questions. He did a good job of managing around difficult weather conditions. The end product looked very good. Both the rock wall and patio roof looked very good.
