"Thank you for the kind words regarding the work we completed on your Patio. We appreciate your testimonial and hope you are enjoying your new 4-season patio immensely! Give us a call if there are any problems or if we can be of further assistance to you. Diane Christie"
For me the best part of working with CCS was that I felt that every time a problem came up over the course of the project, as will happen in all projects, I was always comfortable bringing it up. In all cases we were able to either work out a compromise or the problem was explained to me in detail and options to resolve it were laid out clearly. There was never a moment of disagreement to the point where I felt it was me vs CCS. Instead it was always, here's a problem and here are options we have to solve it.
On some more specific points, the crew was always punctual, or, if there was need for work to be rescheduled I was notified in advance. The crew performed the work with a minimal amount of mess and they were always respectful of our home.
If I had any criticism of CCS in this project it would be that in a few cases some specific details of the project that had been discussed occasionally seemed to be forgotten, but there was never a problem when I reminded them of the issue. So, in general I think that they could work a little harder on keeping track of finer details of the project. All of the work I requested was done, though, and done to my satisfaction.
I will not hesitate to rehire CCS for future work.
"Thank you for the great review! We greatly appreciate your kind words; however, working with such great clients as you two is what makes us want to strive to continually improve our processes and services. Communication is of great importance with our clients, and we are in the process of making it better by way way of web-based software. All involved in projects now - client, subcontractors, project managers/coordinators - will communicate through this program so everyone is on the same page. And this is thanks to you and other clients - we knew we needed to improve communications and we have! We look forward to working with you in the future and don't forget - we LOVE referrals!"
Christie's Design/Build Remodeling completely updated our 1923 home. They maintained the architectural look and feel of a 1920s American bungalow to the letter. They redesigned rooms and created new living space with an addition, plus built a new porch that overlooks Boulder Valley and the Flatirons. The end result is simply beautiful!
In addition, they included Aging in Place features, and also followed "best practices" with Earth-friendly materials. They used the SW-facing side of the house to create spaces of natural light that change as the sun rises and sets. Every square foot of this 1500 sq ft house has been transformed.
Christie's has a great work ethic and friendliness, which is what the West is all about. Great communication, excellent crew, and an all around positive experience. Highly recommended. If I could put A+++, I would!
"Thank you so much ! This project was definitely the most challenging project we've ever completed. However, we were so lucky to have such patient clients as yourself and (name removed). Although, the process was a bit longer than expected, we are so pleased that you love your new home. The way you and Ike are decorating it, really puts it all together so wonderfully! If only all of our clients could be as kind and enjoyable to work with as you two, we would be in total bliss!"
"Thank you (member name removed) for the kind words! And congratulations on Amy's Closet Consignments one year anniversary - that is fantastic! If any of you ladies out there are looking for a great clothing shop, you must head over to Amy's in Firestone - http://www(dot)amyscloset(dot)net."
"Yes, these projects did not go well at all – there were many, many variables involved in why these projects did not go as expected. There is no mention of what was done sloppily or not at all; however, due to the fact that Member refused to finish paying the final contract amount, all warranties on these projects are void. The “services that were unapproved were charged” in part involved a change order for unforeseen circumstances behind the wall that had to be repaired, per the building inspector, or he would not have signed off on the permit. It was totally our fault as our lead carpenter did not immediately stop work and get a signed change order from the Member before continuing with the work as they were in a rush to get the job completed. We, as much as she, wanted to be out of her home as soon as possible. And, yes, we are very sorry to say there were many miscommunications regarding these projects; however, many of those communications were caused by Member breaking her contract dozens of times and speaking directly with, and trying to direct, our subcontractors on how to complete their job. Additionally, she obtained free work that was not part of the original scope of work from our subcontractors and then did not pay the additional when we were invoiced for the extra work she, herself, requested directly from the subcontractors. We had two electricians that refused to come back to this house due to being yelled at and called names that won’t be mentioned in this reply. Additionally, Member not only made my designer cry, she almost had my 6’2” plumber in tears, along with the manager at Ferguson’s, the plumbing supplier. We had asked both of them over to the house to try and satisfy Member. Member continually tried to act as general contractor, thus causing many of the problems that occurred on this job. It’s funny that although Member said she would never hire us again, she asked if we wanted to bid her outdoor kitchen after this project was done. We, of course, declined. Our company is just not a fit for the Member family."
The trouble began with the "designer" who turned out to be the owner's daughter. I had a whole scheme of colors, materials, fixtures and flooring and even gave all that to the owner before he gave us his bid. The designer drew up a "plan" which contained no materials or samples or anything other than what I had already given them. Specifically, I wanted Mexican Travertine in the bathroom and asked to see the sample multiple times. The designer told me that she had already brought it over, but the tile was never ordered. It finally came down to my having to deal with the flooring supplier myself to get the tile ordered at the last moment, over the original price (by the way) as I was never given any prices for any materials.
The trouble finally ended when I had enough of the daily mishaps and disagreements over what was in the plan and what was not, how things were going to work and where they were coming from. I had decided to just let them get finished and get them out of my house when they had to return to replace a broken piece of glass block in the bathroom. I was unable to be at home when they came to do the repair, but knowing the problems we had, I went home for lunch to check on the work. I found shards of glass all over the floor and scratches to my new tile (the tile I had to fight so hard to get ordered). Angry, but figuring that was the end of it, I wrote the final check for the contracted amount and thought I was done. Oh no!! I got an email from the owner, Steve Christie, that I needed to pay him an extra $1000 for the painting which was done by his daughter and her fiancé. First, I never agreed to pay that amount, the paint was integrated into the original contract. Second, the paint in both rooms had to be redone by the lead carpenter as it was sloppy and the wrong paint was used and it didn't cover the walls. Unfortunately, when I told the owner that I was not going to pay for something that was not agreed upon in the contract, he became very angry and sent me a long email regarding the costs he had already eaten on this job and how little he was making. I decided that was not really my problem as we paid exactly what our contract indicated, with extra for the tile that was over the original cost. He also threatened that he would not honor his warrantee in the contract. Well, even if something did come up that needed to be fixed, I would not allow them to enter my home again.
The many problems that occurred on a daily basis are just too many to name, but these examples, I think, give the gist of how this company does business. Our rooms are lovely and mostly what we wanted, but we fought for every inch of them and I could have done without the general contractor and hired the subs myself.
"customer, My sincere apologies regarding the issues you have with the work we completed in April 2003. I can assure you our company does not, in any way, operate as we did ten years ago. As you stated, “as time moved on, you began to see ceiling and wall imperfections”. We have always had a minimum 5 year warranty, and had you called our office to state your dissatisfaction with the imperfections within that time frame, we would have repaired, at no cost to you. Steve would not have stated, “the one year warranty was up too bad”. After locating your files, we discovered that we did come to your home to repair damage from a water leak issue in the bathroom on August 23, 2010, which was actually 4 months past your warranty period. We did not charge you. Other than that call for repairs or dissatisfaction, we do not show any records of you contacting our office. Looking through your files, I also found that the cabinet and vanity was not purchased by our company and that you had already chose those before we were contracted for the job. As for the permit, our notes indicate that you did not want to pay for a permit for the basement bathroom at that time. Our company will now not complete any job without a permit, if required. Additionally, our records indicate total amount you spent with our company was $28,854.35 for all jobs. Yes, the behavior of our carpenters, at that time, was atrocious and completely unacceptable. The two carpenters that were working on your job were brothers and were fired shortly after your jobs because of their behavior. Unfortunately, we did not terminate them in a timelier manner, and again, I sincerely apologize. However, as Steve recalls, you were also feeding them both breakfast and lunches for several weeks before we found out. We knew production was not going well and discovered why. We will be glad to come over and examine the old work to see what we can do for you, if anything, as this project is almost five years out of warranty. Please give myself or Steve a call if you would like us to come take a look. Sincerely, Diane Christie, VP (303) 833-4715"
Longer version . . . Steve Christie and crew were there for our commercial build out process from start to finish. From our first meeting when he put us ?newbie?s? at ease to the final inspection process and approval we knew all the way that we had made the right decision to engage them.
Although our project wasn?t very large there were a few tricky items to be completed. Christie?s took them on and completed them with fine workmanship and superb work ethic. From our initial sit down through the final inspections, we were very happy we had chosen them.
We?d highly recommend them as a contractor and will surely use them again when the need arises.
Thanks Christie?s!
We are planning to replace our deck. Christie's are our top choice for this and any future projects.
During June the wall was poured and roof built. The roof had massive 12"x12" beams and required careful cutting to get them lined up right.
A little after July 4 the project was completed. The roof made a significant difference to the look of that part of the house.
