It was a big mistake to hire C & C Landscaping and Hardscape and Carlos Tobias • They do NOT show up when they promise to come to work (after initial payment was made) • They do not communicate with customers (there was no phone call when they didn’t show up.) • They do not honor their contract or the timeline of the contract • They do not clean up after work. • They are not familiar with stone materials fencing materials; do not select the right material for a job. • They don't know how to install stone material, fencing material. • They bill for materials they do not deliver. • They do not complete projects in a satisfactory manner. Carlos Tobias with C&C Landscaping and Hardscape has trouble keeping his word and has trouble finishing projects in a satisfactory and timely manner. They have not finished a project started 4 months ago (4/17/19) Carlos Tobias is the owner of C & C Landscaping. He and his wife bid on the job and he signed a contract with us in April for raised garden bed with sitting walls, and a fence in our yard. The timeline was 1-2 weeks. The promised start date was missed—they did not show up or call that they would not come. After a several inquiries from me, Carlos sent a crew to clear the site. By now we were past the 2-week timeline of the project. This ground clearing crew left the site half cleared. The garden waste was left in our front yard and our neighbor’s front yard. After more missed-appointments, again with no calls to tell us when they would come to work; a wall crew arrived. This wall crew did not finish clearing the site. They did not prepare the proper footing for the walls. Materials and time for building the proper foundation for the walls were included in the bid, yet site preparation was not done. They did not dig down to make the ground level and they did not use the rock prep base to create a footing for the wall. Not only were bricks NOT placed on proper footing, bricks were laid with gaps—they did not touch each other. The crew filled the gaps between bricks with landscape rock harvested from our yard. Stones were improperly cut so that the blocks had chipped corners. This caused additional voids in the wall. Materials were inadequate in two ways: First, not enough material was ordered for the job resulting in mismatched materials, some brown some red. Second, the unskilled crew broke many of the bricks. These broken bricks were used and some were hidden in the neighbor’s yard. The walls of the garden box were not attached at the corners. They were free standing walls which were neither level horizontally nor straight vertically. One side tilted in toward the garden while others tilted out. None of the sitting wall seats were level. Many of the caps were missing. Some were glued in place some were not. The sitting walls were a safety hazard. The fence was also a poor-quality product. Boards were split by nails and warped within a week. Nails that should have been driven into the uprights are sticking out. No finish was applied to the wood. The fence is not completed. We asked for mesh to be applied behind the rails. We were charged for the mesh. It has never been installed. The fence is unsatisfactory, and also a safety hazard. The work site was never cleaned up. The crew left garbage in our neighbor's yard and ours. They buried some bricks, landscape rock, and garbage in the garden bed—under the garden soil which was delivered for planting. In the process of loading the soil into the garden, the crew knocked one wall over. The crew wore a path in our side yard which had been rocked before they began work at our home. They left a muddy path with torn weed cloth and rocks pushed aside--to the property line and up against the house. I contacted Carlos multiple times asking him to come take a look at the mess. There was no answer. I asked him via text if he would accept what he saw in our photos at his own home. No response. Carols was not answering. I contacted the man who referred us to Carlos; I texted Carlos; I messaged Carlos on his website, Facebook, and Houzz. I sent photos of the unsatisfactory work to both the referring contractor and to Carlos. Carlos sent a different crew for a second try to fix the walls. They were surprised at the poor quality they found at our home, and told us so. Attempt # 2 was better, but still not what we contracted for. • The walls are still neither level horizontally nor straight vertically. • They did not replace mismatched and broken blocks with new materials. • The corners of the wall have the wrong caps, and some corners have cut blocks that are chipped. Rather than use a complete block, the crew just filled in the chipped area with mud. • Some caps are still not glued in place • The wall is still not finished because this crew ran out of materials—cap stones are missing. • There are still voids in the wall where you can see daylight right through the wall. Carlos texted us that he could not finish the work because he could not find the proper materials in Denver, so he ordered them. The order has yet to be filled. It was placed more than 5 weeks ago. Wanting to help Carlos and get our job finished, I did an internet search and found 100 of the blocks he needed in Denver. I texted him: • the name of the company • the name of the sales rep • the sales rep's phone number • the hours the company was open • directions to the company’s location Carlos texted he would be at our home with the materials to finish the wall the very next day. That was on July 16. Carlos did not show up, did not call to say he wasn’t coming, did not send a crew to finish. I sent Carlos one last email on August 4 suggesting a compromise. I asked for proper corner pieces and for caps to finish. No crew to pay, no fencing fixing issues—just the materials. Carlos responded that he would agree to deliver the stones to our home by Friday, August 9. I texted him a photograph of the unfinished section of the wall, so that he could make a proper count of materials. Carlos did not deliver the materials. We have not seen or heard from Carlos. I have tried to give him many chances to make good on his motto, before submitting this poor review. Carlos Tobias claims. “Your satisfaction is our priority" but that is flat out not true. We are NOT satisfied. He has NOT made our job a priority. Carlos Tobias, owner of C&C Landscaping and Hardscape does not keep his word. He does not honor his contracts. He does not show up when he says he will work at your home. He is not respectful enough to communicate with you if he cannot come to work. The work he does is substandard and unsatisfactory.
