I am very pleased with the work done. They matched the new flooring to the existing kitchen hardwood/stain. It's nearly impossible to tell where the old flooring ends and the new flooring begins. They were able to sand out scratches from the kitchen flooring (kids/pets).
I've very pleased with the results, as I was with their work in my previous home. They matched existing with new hardwood. I highly recommend them for hardwood work.
In February 2010, we moved into a hotel for what was supposed to be 1 1/2 weeks of work. When most of the wood had been replaced in the kitchen, it was VERY apparent that the wood was defective and the installer hadn't noticed it. After waiting days for all the involved parties to look at it, it was determined that, as was obvious, it was defective. After more delays, they finally obtained what they said was enough wood to remove the bad wood and finish the project.
They again removed the defective wood and began re-installing the floor. When they were about half way through the project, it was very apparent that there were very large gaps between the boards. They told me that it was no problem....they'd putty in the gaps and refinish the floor on site and I'd be very pleased....defeating the whole point of replacing a prefinished floor! Again, we waited for all the involved parties to look at it and determine that the installer had been putting the staples in crooked, resulting in the gaps because boards couldn't fit flush together. In trying to clean up some glue on the floor, the installer used some type of cleaner that removed some of the finish from the wood, and proceeded to walk in it. After my numerous requests to install the wood with glue as is standard practice, they left very large nail holes in numerous places. It was also very apparent, at that point, that they wouldn't have had enough wood to finish the project anyway. In addition, they used their saw inside our home, which made a huge mess, particularly on textured walls.
At that point, after 8 weeks of our family and puppy living in a hotel, we finally told the contractor to fire S&S and start the project over with the original installer, Rock Solid Hardwoods, who did an incredible job of replacing the floor.
Our contacts with S&S employees were very negative. They tried to blame others for everything, including blaming us for being being "too picky". They spent most of their time trying to place blame rather than solving the problem. If you want a quality floor job,
STAY AWAY FROM S&S.
"As noted by the customer the flooring was defective from the manufacturer. The customer was encouraged to go with another product, but was persistant on useing the nova teak that was mis milled. She was advised to stop the project and proceed with another product. S&S installed everything to meet or exceed industry standards. Also what should be noted is that the member was not happy with the product that she chose and that S&S advised against useing on more than one occasion. S&S has been in business since 1958 and try to provide the best customer service and product possible. Also what should be noted is that S&S recieved $0 dollars for this project and had over $15,000 dollars invested in materials and labor. S&S felt it was best to give her the flooring and collect no monies."
"The employee on this project was released. He was given an oppurtunity to correct the issues and failed. The customer was given an additional coating at no charge. S&S demands and expects high quality. Sometimes this is not always the case and we try to do what is right and be fair to our customers. We understand that without happy customers we would not be in business."
