CHIMNEY JACK

We purchased one of Angie's List deals for our chimney cleaning. Very convenient, we handled the scheduling online. The company was very quick to respond to our emails. On the day of the cleaning the serviceman was a few minutes late (he got lost) no big deal. When he arrived he was very quick and professional, did a really good job. He inspected our chimney thoroughly and said it was in good shape, but recommended we purchase a chimney cap. I am in the process of doing so and will contact Chimney Jack to do the job.

Jim from Chimney Jack was great. He was punctual and easy to talk to about the work that needed to be done. No upselling or sales job. We needed our entire front facade tuck pointed, a top course of brick relaid and needed much paint and concrete cleaned from our brick at various points around the house. Chimney Jack's estimate was fantastic, but unfortunately they were un willing to clean the paint / concrete off the brick. Their estimate did include replacing the worst of the concrete covered brick, but we were looking to clean a lot more of the brick which would make replacing brick unfeasable. The good news is that they weren't the only brick people to not want to clean brick since it could potentially (especially in our case - our brick was rough faced) lead to polishing of the brick and make it look un-original. If I were just having tuck pointing / wall rebuilding I would have been more that confident in using Chimney Jack.

He was very professional. He was very nice and thorough. He gave us a written estimate. We are considering this company as our second choice. Their quote amount was about $3300.

Evidently the original serviceman was sick, but instead of canceling, Chimney Jack called a reputable serviceman to do the job. Due to other cancellations, he called early to see if he could perform my cleaning early and was understanding with my constraints. Very clean sweep, knowledgable & personable serviceman. Overall I had a very disappointing experience with this company from start to finish. I first purchased the Big Deal for a $99 chimney cleaning since I had just purchased an old home and didn't know if the chimney worked properly. The original service person was very polite and professional. He inspected the chimney and said I didn't need a cleaning and that it was safe to use. He told me that there was no charge for the inspection and that I could use the fee as a credit to purchase a chimney cap- which was recommended. I later had the cap installed without incident. The first time I used the fireplace (at Christmas dinner) the chimney backed up and the house filled with smoke and ruined the holiday dinner- despite the fact I was told that the chimney was in good shape and safe to use. I called Chimney Jack and explained the problem and I was told that the owner would come to re-inspect. I was offered no apology for the original poor inspection. I scheduled an appointment for the owner to inspect the chimney and I arranged to be home at the time so that he could come inside to view the flu more clearly. Their office apparently made a scheduling error and he arrived at the wrong time when I wasn't home and he "inspected" the chimney from the outside. When I called the office I was told I had a blockage in the chimney and that it would cost $300 to break through the outside of the chimney, clear the blockage, and then repair the brick. When I asked how he could know the location of the blockage without ever having looked into the chimney I was told, "He's been doing this for 25 years. He knows these old homes." I scheduled the repair at a time that I could be home so that he could enter the house and confirm the location of the blockage. I took time off from work to be home, but once again, I was apologetically told that there was a scheduling error and that the service person couldn't come out. The repair was then rescheduled for the following week. Today, two very helpful and friendly young men came for the repair. They came inside the house, quickly located the blockage from the inside of the house and in about a half hour, removed a loose brick, cleaned up nicely and left. Remember that the owner wanted to break a hole in the chimney to make the repair. When I called the office I asked that the original $300 estimate be reduced since they didn't need to do any brick work or break through the chimney. I was then told that I would be charged $250 for the repair since that is their minimum service fee. Although they have a right to charge whatever they want, I find that charge rather shocking. Skilled electricians, heating technicians, or computer technicians don't charge close to that much. It seems rather excessive to charge that much to simply knock a loose brick out of the flu- especially after the series of mishaps I experienced with this company. I would not recommend them.

It was great, and they were absoutely outstanding! They were punctual, pleasant, and did an excellent job. I really appreciated that they honored the estimate they gave to me nearly four years ago.

Our experience started out rocky, as my appointment time had been misbooked and the serviceman showed up to my house an hour and a half late. He was very apologetic, however, and the remainder of our experience was positive. We live in an older home and he took the time to explain to us the details of our chimney. He cleaned up after he was finished and even patched an some of the concrete in the chimney floor for free. Despite being late, I would use the company again

The first clue I had about how this company was going to be was when the service guy called to say he was "running EARLY!" Nearly an hour early and would I mind if he came by in a few minutes! He was coming so I could take advantage of their $100 inspection and chimney sweep special. He took a long look at the chimney and said, this chimney is so clean, I couldn't possibly charge you to clean it any better - and there will be no charge for the service call or inspection either. When I told him we also had a wood stove, he immediately called his office and got the name and number of a professional who did wood stove cleanouts since they didn't. That's what I call stellar customer service! Will definitely use them EVERY time I need a chimney cleaned, even if it's just before Santa comes so he stays clean!

Alex came out and gave me an estimate right away. I was told someone would call me in a day or two to schedule a date to complete the work. They scheduled the work for a month and a half later. This annoyed me, but since everything else went well I figured I would just wait until then. Sergio came to complete the work, however he told me that many of the things Alex and I spoke about he would not do because the were not listed on the paper work he had. These things included replacing 3-4 bricks and removing the door trim to repair the mortar under the trim. He called his manager and was told not to budge I do any of the other work Alex did not list. I told them to forget it and that I would hire someone else.

I purchased the Big Deal for a chimney inspection and and cleaning. The service person who came out was very courteous and professional. He explained everything he was doing. He inspected the chimney and told me that I didn't need to have it cleaned. He told me he would arrange to get me a refund for the pre-paid sweep. It was very honest of him to tell me that the chimney didn't need to be cleaned-especially since I paid for it in advance.

I was on a tight time frame to have the chimney work done before closing, and Chimney Jack was able to fit the work in within a week. The job itself only took about an hour, and there was no mess left behind.

From the first moment that we received the invitation for a discount on the price of a chimney sweep, we had a great experience here at Angie's List -- we called them and they returned out call within a few hours, plus sent us an email. Then they were flexible in setting up the appointment, even offering weekends. The man who came out was very prompt and efficient. Overall, we were very pleased with this service.

Called a number of locally-based companies; Chimney Jack was one of the few that promptly returned my call and set a time to perform an on-site estimate. As compared to the other contractors I dealt with, CJ was a little lower on price and their work carried a longer written warranty. Went ahead and scheduled the work for about 3 weeks later. I had requested that the work be done as soon as possible to avoid getting caught in winter weather, and CJ was able to move the schedule up by a little more than a week. The masons showed up at the appointed time, worked hard all day, were friendly and courteous, did a fantastic job, and cleaned up thoroughly before they left. The chimneys look good as new and I couldn't be happier with the work they did. Highly recommended.

Excellent. Chimney Jack was very fast to respond, and they worked around my schedule. Their quote was very reasonable, too, and they didn't go a penny over. Not to mention the fact that their work was outstanding. I highly recommend.

I was out of town when they came but my daughter was here. She said the three men were all very polite and kind. They did the job,left an invoice and left without any problems. I did have toreschedule the job since I was going to be gone and they were very amenable to my request. As it turned out, I didn't get back in time anyway and they were fine with my next request to do the job anyway.

Chimney Jack did an excellent job. Two men (one experienced and one trainee) were prompt, polite and professional. They did a great job cleaning and provided a thorough description of additional services we might consider to keep our chimney and attached roof in good condition. We plan on doing their recommendations in the next month or so. High quality work. Recommended.

The crew was prompt in getting an estimate for me, honest about their scheduling (2-3 weeks out) and performed the work despite the 100+ degree weather. I wasn't able to inspect on the day they completed the work, but they came back out to touch-up a few missed spots. Everyone was pleasant to deal with and I even got a thank you card in the mail. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Chimney Jack.

The company rep was nice and knowledgeable of the work I needed done however I did not go with them as their quote was about $800 more than the company I did go with.

They were great. They were prompt, honest, clean, and professional. I would use this provider again. They helped me realize that I already had gas hookups into the fireplace.

I was very pleased with them. I had the flue blocked off in my chimney and there was an animal in there; I didn’t know what to do. I called them though I knew they don’t do animals and asked them what I should be doing because they could be familiar with the things. They referred me to a wildlife rescue guy. They asked me to call them back after I had solved the animal problem so they can cap the chimney to prevent this from happening again. I found this very helpful. They were very easy to deal. They came out ahead of time, looked at my chimney and told me what I needed and what it would cost. They came out and did what they said they would do and charge what they said they would do too. One of the things that I look for is to see if they really seem to know what they are doing so that I am confident that they are doing the right thing. I felt very confident that they know their business. I will absolutely use them in future and will never go looking for anybody else.
