First, it took a little time to get an estimate. The first technician who showed up was given the wrong information; he thought he was at my condo to install the washer & dryer to existing hook-ups. After finally getting an estimate, the technicians came out to do the install. They first told me it would take 2 days; then, when they arrived, they told me 1 day; then they told me 2 days -- it ended up taking 3 days total. The first tech who came out was substituting for the assigned tech because of an emergency the assigned tech had to tend to. When the original tech returned on the 2nd day of work, he mentioned a couple things the 1st tech did incorrectly. The 1st tech said that gas for my entire building had to be turned off in order to install a gas line for the gas dryer (thus the reason the 2nd day of work ended up being a week after the 1st day since I had to get approval from HOA). This turned out to be incorrect because there were shut-off valves for the gas line to my unit. The 1st tech ripped holes in my wall to do the install & said he does not do drywall & that I'd be responsible for it. When 2nd tech came, he said the company has drywall workers to fix any holes they make. However, since the electrician came on the 1st day with the 1st tech (to install outlet in new laundry area), I have a hole in the wall by my electrical box in a different room that I still need to get fixed. The drywall installer did a good job on the part that was repaired, but he failed to cover up items in my laundry closet & I had dust all over my shoes & bags. On all 3 days, the workers arrived later than they said they would, and after getting to my place, they always had to leave to "go get supplies," even though I was told when I first called that their trucks are equipped with all necessary supplies. Their excursions lasted between 1.5 & 2 hours each time. After the job was finally completed & they left, I noticed that they scratched my hardwood floors by sliding the dryer across the floor & that they left a bit of a mess in the hallway outside my front door and a huge mess in the basement of my building near the crawlspace where they did a lot of the work. In the basement, they did not clean up the large amount of debris caused by the installation of the gas line. Overall, while the guys were pleasant & friendly, and I ended up with what I wanted, the experience was not the best it could have been.

I called them and they stated they would not come out until I gave them $148 service charge via the phone with a credit card. The reason I have a service contract is because I am expecting service. I will never use this company again. I do not recommend them to people. They are arrogant jerks. They are just generally bad people.

They told us the person would be at our home between a 4 hour period. He did come as they said he would. He spent about an hour looking at everything and said he would get back with us the next day with the estimate and recommendation. He seemed like a nice enough guy and seemed to know what he was talking about. Only it is two weeks later and we still have not received the estimate nor the recommendation. I called last week and asked for follow-up from a manager or someone who cared about the business. This weekend will be two weeks later. And I still have not heard from them.
Description of Work: We are in the process of installing an irrigation system in our yard. I telephoned the company and set up a time for them to come out assess the project and give us some information on having a new well pump installed and make a recommendation.

He was great. They have a very high quality of work, but they are expensive. I would use them again if I needed great work done or if I were going to sell my house, but on a routine work basis or general work done I will call around for a lower rate.

When our toilet began leaking, we called Plum Creek and they had a great response time, coming out the same day. They were pleasant while in my home and had everything they needed with them when they came. The work went smoothly and the problem was eliminated. I would certainly refer them to others as being helpful and excellent at their work.

We had nothing but problems getting the right people in to do this job, but honestly, if there could ever have been the perfect answer to getting this done right, it was Benjamin Franklin Plumbing. These men didn t just do a good job, they did an excellent job. They were extremely professional, very acutely aware of their surroundings and always clean. I couldn t have found a better plumber and highly advise anyone reading this to consider them as the first and foremost company to use when choosing to have any type of plumbing project done.
Description of Work: We had to have our washer and dryer moved downstairs to our basement. The men came out, moved the two units and did all the plumbing necessary in order for the units to work downstairs. They also installed a sump pump and spent about 3 hours or so completing the work. All used material and waste was taken out by them and dumped.

I have had to call them several times to follow up on the inspection that is guaranteed as part of the installation of the water heater. They have told me at least three times (I called 3 times), and each time they have told me they have sent a check and the necessary paperwork to Aurora. I have not received information from them as to when it will finally be inspected. In this they have failed me.
Description of Work: I purchased a water heater from Benjamin Franklin on April 20th. Part of the service includes the inspection. The price listed also includes two washing machine hoses.

My sink was backed up and I assumed that the pea trap needed to be cleaned out. Before the workman disassembled the pea trap, he told me he was sure that the problem went beyond that. My pipes would have to be cleaned out. He strongly recommended a non conventional method for doing this that was very expensive (we're talking around $1000) and because I live in a 100 year old house, I would have to sign a waiver because the procedure could cause my pipes to break. I said I thought we should start with the pea trap. Once the pea trap was cleaned out, the problem was resolved. As long as he was here, I had him replace the ancient garbage disposal and redo the pipes under the sink that had been poorly put together.
Description of Work: My kitchen sink was backed up. I also had a new garbage disposal installed and the pipes redone under the sink.

The entire experience went really bad. After the first plumber left the sink was draining even slower than when he arrived. The second plumber told me that he could not get the equipment to go down the pipe. He said they would have to open the wall behind my cabinets and put in a new fitting because the building was probably not built to code. He said it would cost me $1500 and they could take care of it right away. I was shocked and said that I would contact someone else for a second opinion. He left, I called another plumber who came out and cleared the drain in less than 10 minutes. My total cost was $155.00. By the way when the second Benjamin Franklin plumber left the drain was even worse.
Description of Work: The company sent a plumber to clear my bathroom drain. The first plumber attempted to clear drain but said he had the wrong equipment. Sent another plumber with different equipment 3 days later. He attempted to clear drain but said there was a problem with pipe installation and drain could not be cleared and would require a $1500 refit of the plumbing. (Unit is an 8th floor condo).

Shiloh and his assistant arrived at 10:00am and we went over the job. He wrote up an estimate and described the work. I agreed to the estimated cost. Shiloh called me and said they had run into problems and would need to amend the estimate. I returned to the job, reviewed the problem. At this time, I expressed my concern that the cost estimate for the work was exceeding what I considered reasonable. The limited access rate of $169 was applied to the estimate, bringing the estimated cost to $876, plus fee. Shiloh stated he had no flexibility in the pricing. Because I needed the job complete to meet my deadlines for other contractors, I had no choice, but to move forward. When the job was finished at 4:30, the plumbers had spent 4.5 hrs, allowing an hour for lunch. I was paying $240 an hour for plumbing. The StraightForward pricing schedule used by Ben Franklin is not customer friendly and makes a big impact on your wallet.

We were very pleased with the results. The plummer (Paul) arrived on time, and he worked steadily until the job was completed. Although the job took longer than estimated due to some unforeseen problems in our old house, we paid as per the estimated cost. Paul was neat and left the area cleaner than when he had arrived.
Description of Work: Paul moved the water heater and replaced the exhaust pipe so that it would meet code and would be safe to operate.

I would NOT use this company again or recommend it to anyone else. We called in another plumber with a different company and he was able to fix both the faucet and the toilet for a TOTAL of $140, which is less than Benjamin Franklin wanted to charge for augering the toilet alone. I feel strongly that the plumber from Benjamin Franklin was trying to make money off me and assumed that I was an idiot. They give their employees crisp white shirts with little badges and have them wear booties inside ... all very nice to look at, but the service was worse than lacking, it was dishonest.
Description of Work: We have had some trouble with two plumbing issues. The first was the kitchen faucet - the water was pulsing out of the faucet and the sprayer in turns. The second was with a toilet which was not flushing completely. The plumber from Benjamin Franklin came and turned the sink on and off (no taking it apart or anything and then told me that we needed to buy an entirely new faucet. He offered to sell us a Delta out of his truck for $480. This seemed VERY expensive, so we asked for a quote and for time to think about it. He then changed tack and said he could take the sink apart and put it back together for $250. I said "no thank you, you just said it had to be replaced, I don't want to spend $250 on a broken fixture." He then offered to do an even more scaled down version for $200. He looked at the toilet and said it was a poor model and needed to be replaced as well. He then offered to auger it out for $150. We paid $28 for his time and called someone else.

The estimate was $39.99. You can't apply the Angie's List discount to it. They were going to charge me about $215 to install the garbage disposal- even though I had purchased my own unit and had electrical already running under the sink. The faucet install was estimated at $250. Are those standard prices??? I ended up having a friend's dad (a retired plumber) do the work for $150. I will say that when I called, they were able to get someone in that afternoon. The plumber was very professional and neat looking- he had a uniform on. It was just too much money for me!

Service was prompt and efficient but pricing is based on per job type rather than per hour. This is good for complicated jobs but you end up over-paying for simple jobs as in my case. The total time spent here was less than 1 hour and $350 for that is unreasonable. However, they did provide and stick to an estimate given before hand, so I have only myself to blame for not realizing the simple scope of work I requested.

The feedback on this site matched my experience. A little pricy, but no complaints on the level of service. The tech was on time.
