JOHN MILLS PAINTING SERVICE

We met with John for a bid to paint the entire interior of our home. John was punctual and pleasant and addressed the necesary details of the job. John got back with us the same day with an estimate of the project cost as well as inusrance verification and his price was competitive. We opted not to choose John's bid only because another service provider had an immediate availability and we were eager to move into our new home quickly. We would definitely contact John again in the future for another project.

John did a wonderful job of painting the entire interior of our new house. He responded right away to our initial call and gave us an estimate quite quickly. Also, he was able to begin work right away which was so good for us as we hadn't moved in yet. At the same time we were having hardwood floors being installed and John worked well with the other workers and was flexible with their schedules. John kept an extremely neat workspace, was punctual and kept us apprised of his schedule. We had several walk throughs with him and he was willing to repaint anything we were not happy with but honestly, it was all great. His quality of work is excellent and we would not hesitate to hire him again.

The quote went fine, he was a nice and honest guy. He obviously didn't want to do the job because his quote was so high it was ridiculous.

As on a previous job, John was timely and provided a very high quality service product. He was on time each day and spent quite a bit of time on the details of our special painting project. His high attention to detail was expected (same as before) and greatly appreciated. The price was within expectation and below the original quote. Again, I'd recommend John for any painting service/project you may have.

John is a consummate professional. He arrived on time and costs came in under estimate. John is a very honest person; the job went quicker than he expected so he cut his costs down. He even helped us out on another project we were working on while he was at the house when the fence work was complete. I will hire John again in the future. His work ethic and results are great!

John is a great contractor. First and foremost, he showed up early and waited until our scheduled time to come to the door. He is extremely efficient. Because we were on a budget he worked with me to keep the cost down. His original quote had the paint included. I ended up purchasing the paint but it may have been cheaper for him to purchase it and get a better quality paint. I had to go with a standard brand. He asked about fixing a paint job I had done that wasn't adequate. I was thrilled not to have to re-do it myself. He also painted the window area above the doors that I had neglected. As we got into the project we knew that it made sense to have the wall connecting the rooms painted. He said it was no extra charge to do that. We then realized this would be the best time to paint the popcorn ceiling so it would like nice as the newly painted room. We added that to the request and he was able to finish in the three days he had proposed it would take for completion. Living, Family, up the stairs, landing and upper hallway: $1000 (not including paint) Paint the popcorn ceiling $225 (included paint) No charge for the small connecting wall or to fix my paint job. I ended up giving him an extra $125 for that though I would have liked to give him more for those pieces. The first price was lowered because I moved the furniture out of the rooms as much as possible and wiped down baseboards, etc. If you don't want to do that, then your price would be higher accordingly. John is a great guy and my dogs (who are a bit skittish around people) were so excited to see him everyday. I'd certainly recommend you contact John for your next painting project. I will definitely call him back when we're ready to do the master bedroom and bathroom. We also asked him to give us a quote for painting the exterior of the house.

John started right when he said he would, and it took the amount of time he predicted. The results are outstanding! We just bought the house this summer, and now it feels as if we are walking into a brand new house. More than just putting paint on the walls, he took the time to address trim problems, texture problems, and anything else that would have prevented the finished product from looking fantastic. We're hurrying to save up more pennies so we can have him back to do the master suite. John's work ethic and professionalism are great. He emailed my wife each night with a progress report, and the house was always clean and restored to usable order when we got home. In my grades, I gave him a 'B' for price only because, of the several bids we received, he was a bit higher than the average. Not the highest, but certainly not the cheapest. That said, I'm willing to be that you get what you pay for, both in terms of a quality paint job and in terms of a great person to deal with. So, while the price may not be the cheapest, the value may well be the best. If you need interior painting, you owe it to yourself to at least call John for a bid. See if you don't notice a difference in personality and attention to detail relative to others...

My mother in law met with John since I couldn't make the appointment. I explained to him that I trusted her opinion implicitly and her word was as good as gold as far as I was concerned. John came with his son (appeared to be 14). He kept looking to his son for answers to questions. When my mother in law asked for an itemized quote (ie, price for closets, price for walls, price for trim, etc) he was exasperated and frustrated. I then received a phone call from John where he was so exasperated it sounded like he was going to hyperventilate. He explained to me that he would not spend "two hours" putting together an itemized quote for me (all I wanted was closets, walls, and trim and two paint colors). He then quoted me $4200 for the job. It was extremely unprofessional the way he was so thrown off by me wanting an itemized quote- that's pretty normal, and the only way you can figure out how much you can afford to do. I had a painter come the next week, who I hired to do the job, for $1800. They had no problem giving me a quote for walls, trim, closets and two colors. John gets great reviews, so I am thoroughly confused by my bad experience.

John has delivered every thing he had promised

After reading his reviews, I contacted John while I was in England. The home was vacant. We started talking in April. He started the job in May. I had to trust him with my home while it was empty/vacant. First, John did a wonderful job communicating in a timely manner via email. My questions were generally answered within 24hrs, if not less - time difference being a factor. Second, John sent me pictures of the progress as he completed specific tasks (e.g. white ceilings). Third, John gave some great suggestions that really helped us out. For example, when painting our boy's room, we asked him to paint some built in shelves. He suggested that since those shelves would have toys and books, we should consider semi-gloss rather than eggshell. We took his advice and love the result. In one room, we really had trouble determining appropriate color. John was very patient and would apply various samples, send us pictures and give us his opinion. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, when we finally made it home, he was finished and the home interior looked beautiful. We could not be more happy. He also told us to look around and to wait on the final check until we were happy and he would take care of any punch list we might have. We did ask for two little things to be done. He came to complete the tasks and it was done. We are planning on using John to paint our basement and have a few exterior projects for him in the near future. A very pleasant person of high integrity who can be completely trusted. I am very thankful to Angie's list for all past comments...all I can say is that John lives up to the hype.

We have used John in the past for interior painting and, after that experience, knew we could count on him for this job. I also didn't realize he did pressure washing until Angie's List clued me in! John came by, looked at the job, and gave me an estimate the next day. John did the pressure washing and fence prep on Tuesday. There were a number of bird and barbeque grease stains on the patio that he was able to remove. There was also noticeable graying on a large section of the fence that pretty much disappeared. The patio and fence both looked significantly better that night just from the thorough cleaning. The next day John applied the J-35 sealer to the patio early (plenty of sun for good drying) then sealed the fence with a conventional wood sealer. The patio picked up its original sheen and looks so much better. The fence, about 4 years old, looks new once again. John's estimate was lower than the other bids I had gotten in the past and the quality of work was excellent. Truly a win-win on this project.

The first appointment with John was very pleasant and professional. I would hire in the future

I called John on a Monday morning, he came out to look at the job that afternoon and I had an estimate in hand by noon the next day. He began work the following week and completed the job working 6 days straight through. Every day he showed up when he said he would, and every afternoon when he left all of his supplies were neatly stashed out of the way. I felt completely comfortable having him in my house and leaving him here alone to work while we were out. Our two big dogs thought he was great as well! I would (and will) hire him again in a heartbeat.

John took a look at the job, gave me an estimate, and recommended the types and quantities of paint a few days prior. He also provided some good insight as we tried to make decisions about color and style. We picked the colors and provided the primer and finish paint to his spec's. He arrived at 8:00AM on time both days ready for work. It is obvious that John knows the "tricks of the trade" and is very skilled at what he does. He worked quickly but was very neat and thorough. John likes to work with his tunes on but, with his Ipod, you don't have to share a blasting boombox as with many contractors! Primer was up within a few hours. By the end of the first day the finish colors were up and the entry area was sanded and primed. The second day he completed the finish work. Of course, new paint always looks fresh but he really did an outstanding job in making sure edges were clean and sharp. I was also amazed at how good the poor, weather worn door looked when he was done. Twenty years of harsh southern exposure has disappeared. We couldn't be more pleased with the outcome.

Wasn't the least expensive, moderate and stuck to it. Went the extra mile doing his work. On time, early actually. Cleaned up well after himself. He did little extras that he really didn't have to do.

He did an excellent job! He made our home look like new. He is truly a professional. He noticed details and little things that made everything look top notch. Besides that, he is a very nice guy, honest, and hard working. He communicated with me daily to let me know how things were progressing. I wouldn't hesitate to use him again and would recommend him to anyone looking for a great painter. He deserves his reputation.

Last year when I bought a rental property, the realtor recommended John. I hired him to paint the interior, which had vaulted ceilings and exposed beams. His work was amazing. John completed the entire job for only a few hundred dollars more than another painter estimated for the ceiling alone. Since he knew I was on a tight schedule, he worked everyday for seven days straight, with no additional charge. Because of John's dedication I was able to have my house on the rental market within a few weeks of the closing. On my recommendation, two friends have hired John. They have also been extremely pleased with his work and have subsequently recommended him to their friends. After knowing John for the past year, I felt comfortable giving him the key to my house. Each day when I came home from work, to the extent possible, everything was back in place. On the last day of the job, John rehung the wall deorations and artwork . When the job was completed he offered to help with the new room layout, moving furniture and hanging pictures. He did all of this as a courtesy, which I greatly appreciated. I am quite certain that my dog believed that I had hired a sitter for her when John was here. He was kind to her, playing with her and let her follow him around all day. He seems to be her new best friend! That fact alone scores even more points for John. As many have written, John is personable, professional, prompt and highly skilled. Beyond that, he is trustworthy and an all around thoughtful person. As I own several rentals and frequently redecorate, John will be my forever painter!

Simply put, John was great! He was very prompt everyday and worked diligently and expertly. He finished the job ahead of schedule which was a huge relief to prepare for the party. He also tested colors with me and even re-painted an accent color when the original color just didn't turn out as expected (I think we've all been there). (John had a very modest and reasonable charge for the re-work.) He will definately be doing more painting for me in the future.

Fantastic! John Mills is a meticulous painter...his attention to detail is the best of seen in my 35+ years of property ownership and management. He adds a thin line of caulk along the ceiling/wall areas to make the line look razor sharp. John usually works alone, so the job took almost 2 weeks, but we weren't in a hurry and really appreciated his precision. We'll definitely use him again.

We've been extremely pleased with John's work. He is meticulous, has an eye for detail, and got the work done in a reasonable timeframe. He is always very responsive in getting a quote together, his prices are fair, and the quality of workmanship is unsurpassed. Very easy to work with and personable. I wholeheartedly recommend John for any size project.

The work was outstanding, when requesting an estimate he quickly returned my phone call and emailed a separate proposal for each project; the fence, the house, and the porch. He communicated his timeline and showed up daily at 0900 and cleaned up his work daily. We worked out some days off based on his schedule, but was always aware based on his emails. I would email him a list of missed areas on the fence and the house, and he would redo / fix immediately. It is just himself doing the work, so I did not mind being the extra set of eyes. All the fixes were minor items.

The project did not really get off the ground. Back to square one with the project in selecting a contractor.

John is excellent at what he does this is the third time he's painted for me. Have one more bedroom to go. Would not have any one else do my painting.

The room is beautiful. John added some personal touches to it, I appreciate his input in to the room. I am looking forward to the next room. John is a very nice young man. And does very good work. and cleans up after himself.

John Mills was very personable on the phone and he was prompt in returning my phone message and in coming out and giving us a very reasonable price quote estimate. We stated at the outset that we were in a time crunch and needed prompt and specific services, the trim and the front door. He put the primer on over the course of several days instead of all at once, then painted the final coat, so it seemed like the sequence of his work was sporadic and may have taken longer for completion. In fairness the weather was not very cooperative, but the communication level between John Mills and us was very poor. He would show up in the afternoon, work for a few hours and then leave, he may have had other jobs, but did not communicate that with us. I did not appreciate him bringing his big dogs to my house while working. The completion of the job was fine and his pricing is very reasonable. John is a nice guy, but may need to work on his professional persona, communicate better with his clients, and not bring his dogs to work with him, without checking with the client first.
