Lets start this by saying this was the worst customer experience a contractor could have ever had. I had already talked with [Member Name Removed] about 50 times about his project because all of his contractors have done horrible work in his home. Not only with the carpets, but basically all of the interior of the home as well. I actually felt extremely bad for him. He had hired Homedepot to do his initial carpet installation and I have never seen such a bad job to start with. These were not bumps or wrinkles in the carpet at this point and was a complete danger to the home. I do have pictures of this impossible restretch and was floored on the job Homedepot had given him. Thats what you get when you get free installation and go a cheap way. I should have rejected this from the start but felt this could be a huge danger and a possible lawsuit to him if someone had tripped or fell. This went on for several weeks with zero pay. We finally set a date to do the restretching and when I arrived, there was massive amounts of furniture and he was not ready to move any of that at the time I was supposed to start. This is a 45 Minute drive for me and from my shop. He decided to reschedule this 4 weeks out from the first date he had set. Again, no pay and no extra charges because Im a nice guy. No big deals. 08-08-2017- I arrived at the home on time as usual. I was introduced to [Member Name Removed] wife which was a very nice lady. The first thing that was said to me was ' Can you put some booties on because my wife is a Gemaphob. I stated that it would be hard for me to perform this work on the carpet and especially if we were carpet cleaning it the same day . This could be a danger to me and I was already uncomfortable with his actions. He agreed this was not the best Idea and I could tell this was not going good, just by this alone. He snapped at his wife several times during the new inspection and possible do the work at the same time. I was extremely, extremely disappointed a man could talk to his wife like that in front of someone he barely knew. I could tell she was embarrassed. I even left several booties at the door to again, be a nice guy. I peeled some of the carpet back in the living area by a double door and immediately saw moldy tack strip. I did not even WANT to say anything to the client about mold. His wife was already a Geraphob according to him and I even thought about NOT saying anything because this could turn ugly very fast. If I would have done the work without saying a anything, I could have been held responsible for this and now I was in a worst situation with a guy that would not even let me speak without being cut off every 5 words that came out of my mouth. I finally told [Member Name Removed] I need to pull you aside "alone" because I did not want his wife to freak out. She was factually very calm the whole time. It was [Member Name Removed] that had some major issues once I saw her demeanor. I took him to the doors and showed him the weathering issues he was having and now the questions were not questions anymore. They were demands. He asked me if I thought the insurance should be called and I did state, if this was the only door you are doing, they might not cover this because of the mold for one and with one door it would not be worth the ping at this point because of your deductible.. Nice and easy. Or you would think. He pulls me to a second door upstairs and has me pull the carpet back to find this was in the same condition. This was turning into a nightmare for me at this point. He is another day without pay. He then starts asking me to fix all of this and to throw caulking all over the bottom. I stated this would not be a great Idea until a Door professional or a General contractor comes out to look at the job first. I am not a General Contractor like that and was there ONLY for the carpets. He stated he saw my resume and I knew more then what I was telling him. I am a certified flood tech as my company is a certified firm. I did show him my certification to hopefully calm him down with my responses. [Member Name Removed] runs downstairs and calls another contractor. I feel bad for [Member Name Removed] and especially the wife, so I started to pull the damaged tack strip out to put down an antimicrobial to help prevent more damage until a real Door contractor could look at this. I already knew this was going to be rescheduled for a third time. NO PAY! The door casings were showing signs of weathering and all of it needed to be replaced. As Im doing more FREE work, he tells the other contractor he had 3 doors now to fix. Im sitting there thinking, what does this guy have to loose anyways by calling the insurance, especially if its 3 doors vs 1. All they can do is say no with no ping to the insurance at this point. Hes on the phone with this contractor and FORCES me to talk with him. I could tell the other contractor now was uncomfortable just like I was but did a basic conversation on how this was a weathering problem and could be turned into a possible flood job through insurance. He agreed and was ready to come and take a look. Nice and easy, RIGHT? [Member Name Removed] comes back upstairs and just would not stop talking. Every 5 words out of my mouth, he would rudely interrupt me and the same questions he kept asking, I had already told him the same things. He asked me if all of the sub floor needed to be ripped out and now went into MAJOR rebuilds of the home. I had to remind him that I was just doing the carpets and it would be up to the GENERAL CONTRACTOR to make these choices. We could not even see the whole job because of course, the doors where in place. WOW! He would not listen to a word I had to say. I finally put my head down for about a minute and said very nicely that I was going to leave. [Member Name Removed] turned into a wild, wild, wild animal. He said, " You are leaving?" and again I nicely stated that we could not communicate very well on these other projects and started to pick up my equipment. As I started to leave, I thought I was going to have to physically defend my self. Before I got to the front door [Member Name Removed] screams " If you walk out of that door, Im going to make sure you never work in this town again. I did not say a word and walked out. He slams the door open possibly breaking it as I walked to my van. He states " If you put your tools in the truck Im going to tell Angies list you are a ******* piece of ****. All of you contractors a ******* a*******, So I put my Tools in my truck and shut the door not saying a word. I go to open my Van door. He yells again stating that if I start my van hes going to ruin my business and basically threatens my life at that point ALL IN FRONT OF HIS HORRIFIED WIFE! I felt so bad for her. God did I feel bad..... Can you imagine the abuse this lady has taken from him over the years. I could by her facial expressions. I started my truck and he runs up toward my van screaming that the top of his lungs and says " I cannot believe you are yelling at me!" WHAT? I calmly stated back to him the only person that is yelling was him and I backed out of the driveway after being assaulted several times. 5 Minutes later, I get a text saying " Nate. If I dont hear back from you within an hour, scheduling a Visit back here to calmly "{ Calmly he says } pick up where we left off, I'll have no choice but to inform Angie. I responded. " You have threatened me one too many times. Have a nice day. An hour later I did write a very nice text message stating on how he should handle the insurance and all of the steps just to have proof that I went the extra mile to give the same and correct info he would not let me give him in while I was in his home. I do have pictures of this text message as proof. I do have pictures of the carpet and more upon anyone asking for them. Lets make something clear! [Member Name Removed] NEVER BOUGHT A DEAL FROM ANGIES LIST! I NEVER DID THE JOB! This is a disgrace on Angies list for even allowing someone to come to my perfect services on this page to give a review that really should be turned into the police for assault. I am Angies list Super service Award winner and for good reason. I was 2 shakes away from calling the police on this animal of a customer. I decided to just leave it alone. I will be putting a lean against [Member Name Removed]Home for a payment of all of my gas and inspections that I was not paid for. I also am putting [Member Name Removed]home and name on Several Bad Customer websites such as [Hyperlink Removed]. Yes us contractors can fight back a bad customer and no, the customer is not always right. Angies list should FLAGGED this dangerous man and his home from other contracts having a bad and pssible dangerous experience.
