Description of Work: Cooper was asked to repair an air conditioner at a rental property that was cycling on and off too much. Rather than fix the issue, the technician claimed that this "was the worst installation that he had ever seen and would not work for our home." He added that in the process of evaluating the a/c he noticed that our furnace was faulty and "unsafe". He stated that, "Especially if you have renters in here you need to replace the furnace." On the recommendation section of the form he wrote, "Replace the furnace and A/C with a new system." I was not at the property when the technician was there so he called me on the phone. Within minutes, it was clear to me that he was just trying to sell a new system. I told him that we had lived in the home for several years and that this was a new problem but he was unwavering in his assessment that we needed an entirely new system. He charged us $169 for his "assessment." I called for a second opinion by a highly regarded heating and air company. He fully inspected the furnace and stated that it was in good working order and added some amount of Freon (I don't recall how much) to the A/C. He also indicated that our renters who were new to the area, had closed the downstairs vents in order to try to keep the upstairs cooler and in so doing had frozen up the system. That was it. Fixed. Cooper's attempt to make a quick buck cost them my business for ever.

Dear Member, Thank you for calling Cooper Heating & Cooling and for giving us a chance to earn your business. Clearly we got off on the wrong foot and I am sorry that your service experience was not 100% satisfactory. My hope is that, after presenting the facts, we can regain both your trust and your confidence. Please allow me the chance to do just that. Please forgive my directness, but this review is unfair and makes indictments of both our ability to properly diagnose a system and our integrity. I am respectfully requesting that you remove this review or change it to award us only the highest marks after you've had a chance to review my position on the matter. I have retrieved a copy of your original service work order and have brought my technician into my office to discuss this situation from beginning to end. The technician who was dispatched to your home is a consummate HVAC professional and among the very best employees that I have. He has been in this industry for many years and has never received a complaint like this. This is not a coincidence, sir, it is a reflection of the fact that he is an honest person and technician and simply does not participate in the kinds of activities he has been charged with in your review which is based on the opinion of another unnamed company. Our technician wrote on his invoice the following after spending roughly 2 hours at your home thoroughly diagnosing the problems with your system: 1) There is a 5 ton air conditioner installed. Not only does the heat load calculation on your property call for a 2.5 ton air conditioner, but 5 ton air conditioners are not installed in residential applications at this altitude. Please feel free to check with any reputable company in town on that. The system is grossly oversized and will never work correctly the way that it is. 2) There is inadequate return air. Whether or not the supply vents were closed in the basement, the duct work system is in poor condition, cannot handle the requisite airflow for a home your size, and needs significant modification at the very least. 3) The evaporator coil installed on top of the furnace is the incorrect size and is causing further airflow problems. Your furnace is 24.5 inches wide and is blowing up into a coil that is only 21.0 inches wide. Again, any legitimate company in town will tell you that this is incorrect and leads to the type of airflow issues you have been experiencing. 3) Your system is unsafe to operate. While checking the internal components of your system, our technician identified a flaw in the heat exchanger of your furnace, which is the component responsible for diverting poisonous carbon monoxide gas to the outside of your home. 4) Our technician pointed out the problems listed above when he was in your home and mentioned what the company who was to come out and give the second opinion should be on the lookout for. It is my opinion that if integrity is to be questioned, those questions should be directed at the company that came in behind us and was willing to charge a system with refrigerant and walk away. Anyone who has spent a week in trade school can do that much. The system froze, when it was deactivated it thawed, and then refrigerant was added. I can tell you without a doubt that the system will freeze up again. Even if I were wrong about that, it is still unsafe to operate, it is oversized, it is improperly installed and as an inadequate ductwork system. We at Cooper take great pride in our ethics and integrity. Accordingly, our guarantees are incomparable. My heat exchanger guarantee states that if we misdiagnose a cracked or flawed heat exchanger, we will replace the furnace that we recommended replacing for free and the technician will lose his employment at Cooper. My technicians are very aware of this and sign an ethics statement that clearly explains how we operate and what the consequence is to operating outside of our boundaries. Perhaps that is why I've never had a situation where I had to let someone go for attempting to sell an HVAC system under the false pretense of a cracked heat exchanger. I am willing to back that up, as I would be in any situation, by sending a technician to your home (your choice of either the same technician or a different senior technician), at no charge, to meet the second company that came out behind us and show them and you that absolutely everything we said is true. We would be more than happy to educate that company on how to properly identify a flaw in the heat exchanger that could lead to carbon monoxide entering your home. In this case, however, we believe that we are completely in the right and are simply asking for a chance to prove it. If for whatever reason you decide that you would prefer us not to return, I would again ask that you please remove this review altogether or change our grade to A. Description of Work: I wrote a negative review on October 6th giving Cooper Heating and Cooling an overall rating of "F". I wish to follow up on that review.After reading my review, I received a call from Paul Kiper. Paul expressed his apologies for my initial experience with Cooper Heating and Cooling. He explained that due to the overwhelming response from Angie's list as well as their work schedule (commitments) several of the coupons pre-purchased through Angie's List were being subcontracted out to Duct Works. Unfortunately, I got lost in the transition. Paul stated customer service and satisfaction is paramount (my word) to Cooper and offered a resolution that I personally considered more than fair and very generous. Cooper refunded my pre-purchased service fee and subcontracted Duct Works to clean my air ducts at Cooper's expense. Duct Works contacted me right away and set up an appointment (October 20th) to perform the service. Duct Works also believes in great customer service and demonstrated that philosophy. I was very pleased with their response and Anthony the service technician did an excellent job.I can honestly say I have never received this type of customer care or responsiveness by a company. Anyone wanting to be respected and treated as if you were their only customer and your satisfaction mattered, should really consider using Cooper Heating and Cooling.Thanks again, Paul. I really appreciate all you did to make me a life long customer of Cooper Heating and Cooling.

Description of Work: UPDATE - Cooper Heating tried to contact me by phone after asking Angie's List for my money back. Upon being unable to conact me, they sent a letter of explanation and apology with my refund, gift card and an offer to perform service for free after their seasonal rush. Their explanation and apology seemed heartfelt and reasonable. These things happen in life and I personally judge a company by their response when things go wrong. I still can't comment on the quality of work but I feel pretty good they will make things right if I am not satified in any way when I do use them down the road. I purchased the Angie's list The Big Deal from this company. First time I called they told me they no longer perform air duct cleaning. I notified Angie's List. They called me back and said they spoke to Cooper Heating and Cooper Heating told them they would go ahead and perform the duct cleaning service. I called and left 2 messages for the contact listed on th Big Deal coupon. I started this process over 2 months ago and I still haven't been able to get the work completed.

Description of Work: I used Cooper Heating previously and was pleased with their service, so I contacted them again. They were unable to schedule me for over a week. When the day of the service arrived, they called to cancel the appointment, saying that they could reschedule one week later. When I called to confirm, they advised me that they could no longer honor that appointment and it would again be over a week before they could reschedule. I decided to go with another company at that point.
