Daniel was 1 of the 1st to call back after contacting Home Advisor. I was to meet him at the house (rental), and he didn't show up, and later emailed me to tell me he was at the house, and did he have the wrong date and time. I decided to reschedule, and give him another chance, as he is a really nice person. He showed up and we went over the work to be done, and he made a big deal about charging $40/hour, and said they didn't mark up any parts that they needed. He was going to Install a sump pump, fix 2 outdoor spigots, replace a cedar wood gate and post, put a cap on the chimney, & replace a threshold strip. He had to order the sump pump. He was hoping to install the sump pump on 4-14-17. I never heard from him, and checked the status of the work, and said he would do the work on 4-26-17. Still didn't hear about the status of the work, and he didn't show up on the 26th to do the work. Each time I had to notify the tenant that he would be coming, then he wouldn't show! He did have to order parts for both of the spigots. I kept having to ask when the work would be completed, and told him if he was too busy I would find somebody else. I heard from him on 5-4-17, and he gave me the progress of work so far, and most of it had been completed, and was still waiting for a part to arrive. He FINALLY got the spigot fixed (He did have to delay the repair once due to snow,) on May 31st and sent me an invoice for the work. When I got the invoice, he had charged me $50/hour, instead of the $40/hour he originally quoted me. I have sent him 2 emails asking him about the increase in the hourly labor charge, it has been 2 weeks and I haven't heard a word from him. I did tell him I wasn't going to pay the invoice until we worked out the increase in the charge. I also wanted to discuss a matter with him in person, that was very concerning to me, but he has yet to call regarding that. He is really nice, BUT, he seems to be too busy to take care of smaller projects, and told me that he does emergency calls for different cities, and of course that would take precedence over other work. I was going to use him as my handyman for the rental, but based on how long it took him to do the work I would NOT use again. AND the work he did was satisfactory. The new gate which was installed won't open all the way, not even wide enough to get a wheelbarrow through because of the slope of the ground, and the drain pipe for the sump pump is just laying across the back of the house, and it seems like it could easily be knocked loose.

The reason for the middling review is not reflective of Daniel's service, but rather an indictment of chimney companies. Daniel was great to work with and very professional. I had scratched the glass on my fireplace and needed a replacement. I contacted 4 companies (3 on Home Advisor) and all four returned estimates from $440 - $550. Included in those estimates were charges for the glass ranging from $340-$400. When Daniel came out, I saw the charge for the glass that he paid to the fireplace store which was $162. I was disappointed at the over 100% markup in addition to his fee to install the glass. As it turns out, I had gotten the part number from one of the estimates for another company and it was incorrect, so the glass that Daniel brought out was too small. Daniel was out my house for about an hour that first day spending 10 minutes taking the screen off, 5 minutes testing the line for a gas leak, and the rest of the time trying to locate the correct glass. When Daniel visited yesterday, he installed the new glass which took him about 15 minutes to install. He charged me an additional $95 which brought the total for the job to $535. This was actually an accommodation by Dan that I very much appreciated as the price of the new glass was $110 extra. If anyone else finds themselves in this position, I encourage you to find out the model number of the replacement part and buy it directly from the nearest fireplace store! Chimney consultants still need to check for gas or carbon monoxide leaks (DO NOT skimp on testing!), but you do not have to pay them a 100% markup on parts.

I hired Daniel to do my mom's chimney and she loved him. He was very helpful and gave her good options for her chimney which needed some repair. He was very prompt in replying to my initial request and was very patient explaining all the possible options since we also had some additional work done. We highly recommend him.
