carpet installation

Sometime in July I first started going into this store looking at differnet types of flooring. When I was quoted the price of any carpet the owner always quoted the price per square yard and said "that is the installed price with the up graded 8 pound pad". We choose to do business with him because his prices were lower then other places. We ordered and were having carpet installed in two bedrooms when I discovered the pad error. The carpet was completely installed in the first bedroom and 99 % installed in the second bedroom when I walked into the first bedroom and knew the pad was not right. It was thin and lumpy. I ask the installers what kind of pad they were using and they said it is a 6 pound pad. I called the owner who told me that he had told me(which he had not) that was the pad he needed to use for the 20 year warrenty on my carpet to be valid. He faxed this warrenty over to me. It says nothing about it being used with the carpet I purchased. And if it is about the pad he installed in our home the warrenty is only 5 and 10 years and the warrenty on the carpet is 15 and 20 years. Becasue we had company coming and the job was 99% done it was agreed he would take care of the padding error at a later time. The installers told me they used the same 6 pound pad in the office/computer room which they had installed at an earlier date. Four carpet people have looked at the pad that was installed. Three of the carpet people have told me if it is a 6 pound pad it is a very poor one. One carpet layer told me that it is a four pound pad. The installers from Sue's Floor Store told me the pad they were using in my home is the only pad that this store has used in all the years they have installed for them. Because he had sent to be installed in our home the 6 pound pad instead of the 8 pound pad I carefully checked all five invoices we had from this store for tile, wood flooring and the carpet. There were errors on all five invoices. I wrote the first letter pointing our the errors on the five invoices and delivered it to him. He called me vicious, mean and evil as he threw his arms and hands into the air and toward me. I was glad I had taken a friend with me. He wrote me a refund check, which he threw at me, for over five hundred dollars which is the total amount I showed him he was in error. He has responded with one letter saying he called me evil because he felt I had done this on purpose. What "this" is I don't know. He said he had talked to a lawyer and the lawyer said because we had agreed that he could install the capet in our home using the 6 pound pad that I can't change my mind now and expect him to do something about it. We NEVER agreed to have a 6 pound pad installed in our home. That is what he sent with the installers who were almost done before we discovered the error. The estaimate for these three rooms for taking up the carpet and so called six pound pad and resinstalling with an eight pound pad is $444.81. After the third letter to him he sent a check for this amount. This brings the total to almost one thousand dollars that he refunded to us. The company that we had do the carpet installing in the rest of the house also did an estimate for yardage in the two bedrooms. Their estimate for those two rooms is six yards less then what was delivered to us for those two rooms from Sue's Floor Store so now we have six yards of carpet that we don't need. I didn't even mention this over order in my letters to Sue's Floor Store.
Description of Work: We purchased tile, wood flooring and carpet from Sue's Floor Store. We installed the tile and wood flooring. The store installed the carpet and did not use the eight pound carpet pad as was quoted to us.I don't know why this report shows age of home as l989. It should be 1998.
